- britkev1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+106Didn't they have a truck load go missing in CA?
- mayan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+69He's Dr. Phil.
- kkaabboomm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+68how did he get so many...?
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+69Aside from growing a mustache, this is one of the coolest things he has ever done.
- nrvous250gt, on 10/12/2007, -12/+62uh oh! Time to call the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhmbulance!
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -3/+51Damn that's smart. A soccer mom hero endorsing a video game system? There's going to be a lot of wii's under trees.
- f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36but... youtube can handle the bandwidth and has nothing to do with the blog...
you sir make too much sense.
HES A WITCH!!!! BURN HIM!!! - G_Raph, on 10/12/2007, -7/+42That sucks...I have been trying to get one since launch and he gets tons to just give away.
- calebhawk, on 10/12/2007, -10/+38Next week Oprah will give everybody a PS3...
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24I would assume Nintendo gets publicity from this. After all, they are trying to target their age group right?
- Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22I think Mandarin is excactly right, if anything Nintendo paid for all thoes Wiis and PAID Dr. Phil to endorse their product. And I am sure it will pay off for Nintendo in the end, while Sony is left squabbleing in HD quality mud.
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26""Unless she wants to go broke, she should probably stick to cars."
LOL, so true."
Last time I checked the little thumbs up next to his comment meant the same thing, and didn't spam. - turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25direct youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfLnCyajUYE&eurl=
- allisonaxe, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28man, f**k Dr. phil!
Nintendo: I want to give you my money. i want to give you piles and piles of my hard-earned money. but you're making it very, VERY difficult to do so: i can't find a Wii in a store. but Dr. Phil gets a truckfull to give away for free? PAH! - Cytranic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22God this is the most mis-understood story. She did give away cars, and when she found out they had to pay taxes, she also paid the taxes for them.
- shad0w, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19You mean exploiting the masses through a sensationalized display of other people's problems? Yea, Dr. Phil is a real cool guy.
- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17In future, use this one first..
- themaskedsquid, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23smartest diversification of target audience since Tarantino went on American Idol.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Did Dr. Phil's audience have to pay taxes on those Wiis like Oprah's audience did with the cars?

Granted, ~$25 is a lot less than $7000... - numb401, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Yea that Best Buy clown was definatly the worst part of the entire video.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12YOU get a wii!
YOU get a wii!
YOU get a wii!
not quite Oprah, but I guess it's good that they don't have to pay the extra sales/registration taxes. - Nodren, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21@lari:
stop whining, wii is not a hard console to get, i got into the line 30 minutes before a store opening on launch day, with 20 places left, by the time the store opened, there was still units left to sell.
if you really wanted one, you should have put forth a little effort... you dont have any right over anyone else to own the system. - OhJay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"Random" audience member that "randomly" happens to be in shot:
"I don't know how you got one. This is the hottest item on the market [...] This is the gift that keeps on giving this season!".
*barf*
Nintendo isn't even being particularly sneaky about their obvious product placement plants. Good for Nintendo though. The Wii /does/ look awfully nice. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@ Lari
All of the people in the audience were deserving (don't make enough to buy their kids Christmas gifts) families. So stop whining about not being able to buy this stuff when these people don't make enough money to buy the basic essentials let alone a brand new console for their kids. Get over yourself. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+26"Unless she wants to go broke, she should probably stick to cars."
LOL, so true. - rsampaio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Dr. Phil and get a wii DUH!
lol - Haohmaru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10And we all wonder why you are not Dr. Phil.
- Lari, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@Nodren
I actually have one, and I did put forth quite a bit of effort. Here in the Pacific NW they are hard to come by and demand is still very strong. At target on opening day the line was full at midnight for an 8am opening and they were continually turning people away. People were being turned away at the crack of dawn last week for a 10am Sunday best buy opening. Supplies vary in different parts of the country, so dont assume that your experience is the only situation people are facing.
Furthermore, no matter what time you get up and how many stores you go to, Wii remotes are not to be found. I'm not trying to whine, I just think that units could be better allocated this early in the game. - DarkXanthos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@Ascus... Umm dude. Calculus? Do you need to deal with rates of change or summations? You can represent it as follows...
V = Value of car
T = Tax Rate
C = Cash needed to offset tax
V * T = C - C * T
Solving for C yields
C = V * T / (1 - T)
Basic calculus? I'd say more like basic Algebra. - elitexero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10See, the people who called me a moron for camping out for a Wii...are the people who are bitching about not having one now. Idiots. Me freezing my ass off isn't so hilarious now is it? :P
The funny thing about the whole thing is that I barely play it. I never have time :P - RpgActioN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+71. Nothing; Dr. Phil is simply a marketing tool.
2. There is no set "Dr. Phil core message;" it fluctuates as necessary for sales. - Valleye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Do those Wiis come with a Dr Phil Channel?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Why digg this comment down?
Just because you can't understand a relatively large word doesn't mean you have to digg it down. If you picked up a frickin' book you'd understand that humor doesn't always come in phrases including the word "wii" as a cheap pun. - nipterink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@XStatic: it works because tax is not 100%. you just have to give a larger amount in cash to compensate for paying tax on that too, for example:
tax: 50%
car value: $10000
tax on car: $5000
adding 10000 cash, yields 5000 after taxes on the cash which pays off the tax on the car. - numb401, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Helps increase the ratings ;)
- Dainjah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I guess it brings a family together by giving them something they all can enjoy.
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He was the guy who was talking. I'm sure it was Best Buy who arranged for the Philinator to get the Wii's. They probably even paid for them.
- Ascus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I don't think they will, since he value is under $500, there is no requirement to report it to IRS.
As for giving money to pay the taxes, basic Calculus will say how much, - Herald42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Lari -
It's completely backwards here in the D.C. area. By luck, I walked into a store on Friday and picked up a Wiimote, but I can't find a Wii to save my life. I've been checking every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday since they came out. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Crappy car or wii, that's not even a hard decision. Wii all the way.
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Eat that Oprah!
- PureHeretic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2kill doctor phil.....killl
- threepm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dr.Phil didnt give anything away... Best Buy gave the wii's away along with a portable dvd player.
- dreadinc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2;-))
And he had to ask ?!?! - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Would have been better if he gave a super cheesey wink after he said it.
- nipterink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2tickets are free.
i don't know of a talk show that charges for tickets.
there's just usually a waiting list for when you can get tickets. - ronin2040, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2no, I think everyone with a Wii is quite happy :)
Budokai Tenkaichi? Virtual Console? Twilight Princess? Wii Sports? I think we will manage to survive :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cytranic, I wish you would provide links to prove this. A simple search brought up nothing for me.
By the way, what the search DID bring up was news that she did it AGAIN in January of 2005.

They also didn't seem to mention that those taxes were indeed paid from the free car incident. -
