- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Actually, sending them to public school is a far more convenient way to introduce them to.. well.. pretty much everything.
- Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25It would really be neat and/or evil if you could gamble with your Microsoft Points. Play for a while and (if you win) go spend your winnings at the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Microsoft would have to have a huge disclaimer saying that you can't exchange MS Points for real-world money. Just so people don't get the wrong idea, and so it stays on the good side of legality. - The0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Thats awesome!
- jabbertrack, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17$500?
funny mine cost $400
and it was worth every penny
don't like it? tough *****... go back to fanboy land and your unlreleased consoles...
by the way I'll be buying all 3 because educated people tend to get paid a decent salary, so I can afford it :)
maybe get a job so you don't have to go on digg.com and make yourself feel better about not being able to afford a 360 - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9maybe after that you could show us how you get those games to work over Live on the 360...
- phidong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6There will be a bankroll attached to your gamertag. If you lose all your money, you can't play at big tables anymore, you have to play at small tables and work your way up again.
Heres a quote from the xbox.com page before it was taken down:
"Your virtual bankroll is tied to your gamertag and keeps a running tally of your chip count. If you lose all of your chips in a poker game, you'll have to play lower stakes buy-in games to make back your stack and earn your way to the big tables." - josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You mean like ... Strippers?
- thrustbucket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@afpunk
"I figured anyone who wanted to play free poker online was already doing so, and for more than 2 days"
It's just the ability to download the full game for free for 2 days. You can play forever after that.
After the 48 hours it will cost $10 to get the full game.
I have recently been converted to the coolness that is the structure of xbox live. It actually is better (most of the time) than games on the pc, even if they are the same games. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7XBLA = Cool
Free texas hold 'em? nothing special at all. - phidong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well, it was supposed to be free to begin with. The game was going to be sponsored by Riverbell but they backed out (that's probably why the game has been delayed for so long). It's pretty nice to see Microsoft offer it for free (for 48 hours at least) even though they really don't have to.
- jabbertrack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4right... because it's so easy to become addicted, and so bad to spend money on entertainment
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm (all) in !
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Free Poker + 360 Camera = A really hard time keeping kids away from strip poker
- s-m-a-c-k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@FederalSource
Err... why wouldn't it have voice support. I agree with you and the Halo community, but you have the option of muting and reporting other players. The mechanism of reporting players has the benefit of blacklisting those you deem inappropriate. - gabeN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Rayonic
I was totally thinking the same thing! that would be friggin awesome! - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You can't bet any real money because MS would have to use the same regulations as any other gaming site. This would mean you wouldn't be able to play it in almost every country including the USA.
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm not a huge fan of poker, but I can get behind free!
I'm sure w/ poker's rise in popularity MS could have made a fortune off this game. However, it is nice to see them give it away for free since it is just a card game that anyone can play. - djdigital, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think you guys have it wrong.
If you download it within the 2 days it will be free, if you miss it you will have to buy it.
Thats what I get when I read this:
For 48 hours only—through 0800 GMT (1:00 A.M. Pacific Time) Friday, August 25—as a special limited-time only promotion, all Xbox Live Gold and Silver members can download (and own) the game at no charge. Starting at 0801 GMT (1:01 A.M. Pacific Time) Friday, August 25, Texas Hold 'em will be available for 800 Microsoft Points.
Download (and own) - wonderboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sweet, I thought this was just a trial for the first 48 hours before.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am sure they will incorporate this Poker game with the XBOX 360 Cam...
I'll have to work on a good poker face... - afpunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Trust me, I love anything to do with poker, and so I'm interested to see how this turns out, especially if they were to add other games for cheap to those who already purchased (i.e. Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 card stud, stud 8 or better for starters). There are multiple reasons why I feel this option isn't for me, but I would love to give it a try at some point before making a final opinion. Besides, anyone who plays poker for money is happy to introduce more fish to the pond.

- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Added to Google Calendar....
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Um, why the hell would they have to release an XBLA game to 'trap people with FW mods' ? The stupidity of your comment is scary.
There's a hundred ways they could check, in a more efficient manner, such as, they could do an update to the 360 software (So it affects -everyone- not just those who download the game) - mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's 6AM eastern not 6PM.
- Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@chris9902 :
That's why I said they wouldn't be betting real money. They'd be betting Microsoft Points. And you can't sell those points back to Microsoft (otherwise they'd be opening themselves up to money launderers.) - beardly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Go figure, the two days that I will be out on vacation, they give this away for free. They need a way to preload it similar to Steam.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Betting Mircosoft points is the same as using virtual credits and that is classed as money online.
- rprins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Link to xbox.com original posting: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/2006/0815-texasholdem.htm
- harrisonpowers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Great, the one week this whole summer I'm away from my house. Still pretty cool though.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2SWEEEEEEEEEEET!
- phronko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Yeah. We got that. Thanks?
- Bradl3y, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I was thinking the same thing! They know the FW mod type likes having stuff for free, so include a bit of software in this game to check for the mod, and BAN! That would be pretty celver if you ask me. I have no desire to play poker on a console, so I'll be sitting this one out!
- Ental, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2They are just trying to sucker everyone who does not use the Microsoft points for arcade games to try it, get addicted, then buy some points and become addicted to that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1When (not if) they decide to start checking, it'll probably be with a much more important game than poker.... say, maybe Halo 3, just like they did with Halo 2 on the first xbox.
- Websteria, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7Someone needs to repost this next week so I don't forget! !! :-)
- FederalSource, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Hopefully there is no voice support. I cannot think of a worse avenue to create a teen infested, racist, swearing craphole more than XBOXlive on-line poker. Seriously, think about it. After playing random Halo players, poker gives me the chills.
- zulhadm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0ngmcs8203 you piece of sh1t. you ruined my digg on the entry: http://digg.com/tech_news/Site_hosted_on_two_23_year_old_Lisa2_computers. I took time out of my day to email the person who all the hype was about and since you were too stupid too realize someone copied MY posting and passed it for their own I now have bad credibility. Because people are even dumber than you they followed you and here is where I am. Thanks a lot assh0le.
- behn1220, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2This is great! With a little luck I will have my 3rd replacement Xbox 360 back from Microsoft Support by August 23rd so I can actually take advantage of this offer! (I'm not kidding)
- worlin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I love poker but alot of my friends aren't really fans but if it's free I'm pretty sure they would play a few hands with me. Way to go Microsoft.
P.S. @ Microsoft Bad job today on not bring out a new game and only bringing out Cloning Clyde Gamer Pictures. - alienSkull, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6yeah just like a Skype call is free..
after buying:
$3000 laptop
$50/month internet
$? electricity - afpunk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Honestly, I don't see the big deal here. I figured anyone who wanted to play free poker online was already doing so, and for more than 2 days. Yeah, its XBLA, but I don't see how that makes it any better or worse than the dozens of options available on the PC. Also, with voice chat, to have a respectable game, they'll have to have it silenced half the time as there things you are simply not allowed to reveal at the poker table at certain times by rule. I'm interested to see it in action, but with so many great, established options out there, what's the point?
- rileyjt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Video games are baaaad!
- rapptech, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Why play poker if there's no money involved? That makes no sense. There are much more fun card cards out there to play if you're into having a good time. Might as well play Uno.
Will there be any incentive to winning (or more importanly losing)? Otherwise it's just going to be an all-in fest. Money is what makes gambling card games work. Take it away, and there's no purpose. - thrustbucket, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Why are you selling?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Got one as a gift, already own one.
- dodeja, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Free for 2 days:) Still awesome though. Now we need some strip poker action.
- Rangoth, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Hellz Yeah!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Sweet. I have decided to sell my xbox 360 and everything I have with it, tons of gears of war stuff. If ya wanna check it out, if not good deal on the free poker.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&item=230018431643&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 - josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2 what I am concerned about is all the spyware and pop-up ads this will come with...
