- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -7/+39its always hard to learn how to play something. Everybody forgets how difficult it was to play their first FPS, but we're so used to controllers and using the mouse+keyboard for FPS' it comes naturally with every new FPS. There will be a learning curve but thats part of the fun (trying something new and different)
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -7/+36Actually... that doesn't look half bad...
I've never bought a DBZ game before... and frankly... I didn't think I ever would... even if I used to like the show...
But this actually looks interesting... not enough to make me preorder the game... XD because I have enough games for Wii preordered already... @_@
If this gets decent ratings when it comes out... I might buy it! - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29"Oh no, he is having a seizure!"
"no he isnt, he's just button mashing" - nibble128, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26This game will have great immersion! Of course it will be more difficult than just hitting buttons, but then again isn't that the point? Moving your hands in gestures brings you into the game a hell of a lot more than mashing buttons (what are they going to call wii-mote-button-mashers?)
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19(a little off topic comment...)
I WANT:
1) Four Wiimotes
2) Attachement to arms and legs for those Wiimotes
3) a BRUCE LEE game for Wii. - Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Whoa. I was expecting this game to be absolutely crap, but seems very fun and interesting now. Not to mention it look great. Not technically superior to the other new console (and certainly not the best the Wii can do), but the graphical style really works for this kind of a game.
- Doktag, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18I agree. Finally, a video game that doesn't require you to remember a random sequence of buttons for the special move of every different character.
no more up, up, forward, back, X, X, triangle, circle, whatever. Bring it on, i say :D - DoodleMaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15She didn't say the name right for the Kamehameha wave correctly. You must honor the name the way Goku does (I jest of course) anyhow it's....
KAAAAAAAAA MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...................................
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAA. *Then seizure affect* - knid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Who the heck is "Goku BE Goku"?
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18"Finally, a video game that doesn't require you to remember a random sequence of buttons"
Uhhhh
Did you miss the various parts in the video where she said "and now to do this you hold down Z, B, and move the remote down." or something similar?
This looks horrible to me, and that hurts to say cuz I am a Wii enthusiast. It looks like they took a game which should have normal controls, used developers who still THINK like they are using old controllers, and had them throw in a few gimmicks. I mean come on...
Move the nunchuck down to dash forward? You have a d-pad AND a joystick available for simple navigation. The motion sensing should be used for gestures to do special abilities and blocking, not dashing, and the moves shouldn't require button combos AND motion.
If all 3rd party developers think like these guys do, I fear for the Wii's future. - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Be Goku? Damn, will I have to charge my qi and yell at the top of my lungs for ten days straight?
- theamazingboo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9he meant "don't PLAY as goku, BE goku"
- lolage, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Man, while I have no interest in this game per say; that video has just made me as giddy as a schoolgirl. I think we need the Wii faster.
- creep303, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9ACK! The punctuation goggles, they do nothing!
- PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8you can tell she's a PR rep and not a gamer.
- pardonator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I can see a lot of real life distractions happening with the wii. You see your opponent powering up a special move, so you quickly kick him in the nuts or stamp on their foot to disrupt it :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I've never understood how anyone can be a DBZ fan. The shows are all 95% people groaning and sweating or chasing another character. It's like every single episode, they're charging up for the next episode. TUNE IN TOMORROW TO SEE IF GOKU FINALLY BLOWS OUT HIS SPHINCTER FROM ALL THIS GRUNTING! Not only that but to actually see who stops grunting and sweating first, you have to watch the next episode.
I tried to understand it. I really, really did. Unfortunately it's nearly as bad as any serial drama on daytime television for housewives. "Got to get home and watch mah stories!" - psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"I can see a lot of real life distractions happening with the wii. You see your opponent powering up a special move, so you quickly kick him in the nuts or stamp on their foot to disrupt it :)"
Like you could do with any other game? - Pharaoh777, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I agree, from a PS3 enthusiast's point of view, that this definitely looks interesting. I think the learning curve will be a bitch - but it could be worth it in the end. I just hope that more hand movement are incorporated for the melee attacks and lesser special attacks as well.
- eckocomplex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Wow, is all I can say. Nintendo have totally won me over with just this single game. I know too many DBZ fans who are friends who will be at my house playing this!
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7That looks awesome, its what I've always wanted to play as a DBZ game, whih are usually crap
Can't wait to do a Kamehameha!!! - w0rd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I want this just to try the Kamehameha (I was going to ask how to spell it, but apparently whomever coded the dictionary function on digg is a DBZ fan). This controller seems a lot cooler every day.
- skaughtm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7you're right, we should be doing figure 8s and spelling our names in the air to perform the mega attack. what the ***** you two were expecting, i don't know.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i noticed she had a little bit of a blow-out too..
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"Did you miss the various parts in the video where she said "and now to do this you hold down Z, B, and move the remote down." or something similar?"
Well yes, obviously you're going to have to use some buttons to do moves... This is still way simpler than "Hold B, now do forward>down>back>forward" and all those kinds of combos. - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Heck, add attachments for the nunchucks for the upper arms and upper legs, and you'd have a not-completely-perfect but still pretty good way for the console to have some amount of input about your whole body. (eg. if all 8 motion sensors sense an upward motion... then you're probably jumping.... if just he upper half sense a downward motion, then you're probably bending over)
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4haha! Sounds like a good idea actually! :P
- envy860, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wasn't sold (the movement looked tough) until she did the Kamehameha. I wasn't expecting her to pull her arms back. That is AWESOME.
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've thought about it a bit, and I will have to give the game a shot. I'm not convinced by this video that the controls will be intuitive, but they may not be all bad.
As was pointed out, who really knows, until we try it. - PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3they actually said they'd be releasing additional (wireless im assuming) attachments for the legs in the future.
- Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The special moves actually do seem rather intuitive, if you know what the characters in the show do. It's the rest of the game that seems to have strange controls. Thrusting your hand downward to move forward?
- hugznotthugzkid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5That was pretty cool when she did the gesture to do the Kamehameha move. It lookes like each fighter is going to have different gestures for their special moves. Interesting way to use the Wiimote with a DBZ game.
- Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That answers my question as well. I didn't quite get it, so I was looking for some horrible mistake that proved why you shouldn't play as Goku in the game because it would screw something up or be really inappropriate.
- bokchoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was sold at the Kamehameha. I didn't catch it, but is flicking the nunchuck the only way to move around? I would just hope for the analog stick.
- eN1X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Looks like i'll have to pick this game up. Using the remotes like that seems really fun!
- PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4lol, then seizure effect hahahhahaa
- masterspeaks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I could never get into the split screen fighter of Budoukai Tenkaichi 1. I felt it was a step down from budoukai 3, which was a solid b-average fighter. However, this does look entertaining.
- Doktag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@ahawks and Philbert
You haven't even played it, and you're already criticising the controls. So here's my equally experienced rebuttal.
I think that holding down the buttons is an important part. You seem to forgetting that the one downside to a motion sensitive controller is that it is going to to pick up every movement you make, unless you find someway to tell it when you want to pick up the movement. I don't want it to accidentally start doing the special move when I'm too far away and I was just readjusting my arms or whatever.
Plus, squeezing the triggers is the best way for the Wii controller to detect you are clenching your fist, which is how Goku powers up in the series (read: intuitive). I don't think remembering to squeeze those triggers is going to be too hard for you to remember.
Anyways, you have to admit, it's miles ahead of the button mashers of old days. This is one of the first fighting games to come out for the Wii, so naturally they're still testing the waters. I think it's a step in the right direction, and makes the future for the Wii look very promising indeed. - AzraelKans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have to admit that looks cool, but be warned though, the E3 demo of dragonball z for Wii got terrible reviews all over, I would suggest to wait for reviews before buying.
This is DBZ after all only one out of 10 games doesnt suck. - plnegative1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why wouldn't you want to be Goku? This title is misleading.
- KidAirbag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've never played any of the American DBZ games...my brother has them but they never seemed much fun. I do have DBGT Final Bout for PSX, though, which was loads of fun back in the day.
This looks really interesting. I'll probably wait a few months for the price to drop and pick it up. - shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5@Zippo
dont let them get any ideas... the wiimote does have a microphone, im not sure any fighting game should have you aucally screaming to charge up.
but i dont think it loosk that bad, sure its not like other fighting games, but most gamers were screaming innovation when they saw the Wii and they are just trying something. - End_Joy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I never like the DBZ TV show and Games. But DAMN that looks fun. I may get it at launch.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Its going to suck when wii button mashers get to close to you...
- SirBriggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm, looks funner than Elebits.
- staunch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Move the nunchuck down to dash forward? You have a d-pad AND a joystick available for simple navigation."
That's just if you want to dash forward at your opponent, it looks like you use the analog stick to move around at a slower speed (seen at around 2:30 in the video) Although the camera looks a bit confusing as it doesn't change angle at all when you move... - Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am looking really forward for the Wii, but this game looks like it's broken in so many ways. I have a feeling that your movements will be filled with pauses and stutters. Wii for the most part will probably be better off making games that are specifically made for the controller rather than trying to translate a cross platform game made for d-pads and thumbs.
Much like how most light gun games suck w/o the light gun. - Mullinator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Why not? I've already seen much better with previews of Mario Galaxy and the next Smash Brothers.
- Derrekito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Is it just me or did the lady make the game sound boring.... put me to sleep she almost did.
"we are very excited" - my ass. - Misapoes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Altough this sounds pretty nice, what about the huge combo's? good ultimate combo's require more than 20 buttons, the button X requirs you to point down, it's pretty impossible to make a good fast combo if you need to make movements with your arm for a button.. or they'd have to limit the combo's to a 4-8 button combo.
