Dissecting GTA IV: IGN, EGM, AMN and GameDaily Speculate About the Trailer
advancedmn.com — It has been a couple of weeks now, but we ’re still thinking of the Grand Theft Auto IV trailer. The teaser didn’t really divulge much of any “real” information about the game – in typical Rockstar style. However, the game industry is spilling over with obsessed GTA fans that can’t help but speculate about the trailer.

- pixarfan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Great article.. IGN, Gamefaily, AMN and EGM all in one spot.. how the hell did they swing this?
- Greg-J, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's nice to speculate about a trailer, but there is a 10 page hands on article in the May edition of Game Informer sitting infront of me and they're off on a lot of things. I suppose they new Game Informer had the exclusive and needed the attention, but I would recommend picking up a copy and reading about what the game is really like rather than what the people who weren't invited think it might be like...
I won't go into detail on the article, but one of the things highly speculated is the size of the game world. It is smaller than San Andreas, but there aren't any open parks or wasted spaces like in SA. - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Gamestop always tries to sell me that magazine EVERY frickin' time I've gone in to the store. When my friend started working there I finally caved in...
Turns out GameInformer gets a lot of exclusives and first run news stories...It was actually well worth it...A lot of news and stories that I couldn't find on the web - JBCougar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No offense, but they cut and pasted?
- metasin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2all your rumor are belong to me.
- Greg-J, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I got it with the used game membership for free. Well worth it if you buy used games - which I do.
Some other things of importance:
* You never see the main characters homeland which this group illudes to. The story takes place in Liberty City only.
* There are no planes in this game. Accordingly to developers, the city is too small.
* There are no rollerblades or skateboards for you to ride because apparently it doesn't fit in with the character.
* You don't start at the bottom and end up at the top in this game either. You start at the bottom and end up somewhere in the middle.
* The game features multiplayer, but is not an MMO. The multiplayer aspect is "interesting, fun, and progressive, and goes nicely alongside the single-player game". COOP anyone?
* The PS3 and XBOX360 versions are likely identical, but downloadable content is exclusive to the XBOX360. Yep, that's right. Not only did Sony lose exclusivity, Microsoft got exclusivity for downloadable content. Which sucks for PS3 owners because GTA IV will also feature "episodic content" - presumably not coming to the PS3.
* There are indeed no loading times after the inital load. From exterior to interior and from island to island - there are no loading times.
* Physics plays a major role in the game this time around.
* You can call women for dates - who cares?
There's a lot more information in the article, so pick up the magazine. It's worth the read. - PsychoticClown, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is THE WORST possible time the game could come out in. We really don't need these scumbag politicians finding a new easy target.

- kevinmotel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I certainly hope they expand to the mainland and Long Island. Long Island itself is full of references to the Godfather, which would be useful if they were to bring back the Italian mafia from GTA III as a potential supplier of jobs, cars, and weapons for the main character.
Leave the gun, take the cannolis. - dcmjzero, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3i hope they don't try and tone down the game because of recent events...
- metasin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1i was actually hoping for a school shoot-em-up mini game.
- ltuspud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Satire has always been one of the more focused things Rockstar adds into games and I hope it stays that way...
- AutisticPsycho, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Heh, a terrorist huh.
Why not just plain good old mafia stuff. But then again, could he be a Russian mafia type?- neptuniac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2He doesn't seem to be a terrorist. That accent sounds like it's supposed to be russian or eastern european. Plus, he mentions buying and selling people, which is more typical of the Russian mafia than any terrorist group I've heard of. Also seems to be set in the present day this time.
- ssmith2k3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Health Insurance"?? "Religion...Budha[etc]..." These speculations are crazier than anything I've read on the gtaforums. There are some interesting rumors on that forum: for example, the trailer is a swerve and Rockstar does not intend Niko to be the main character.
- Greg-J, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nikko is indeed the main character.
- riplikethat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2"It has been a couple of weeks now, but we ’re still thinking of the Grand Theft Auto IV trailer. Yeah. How about, just wait for the damn game to be released? Or is it one of those "GTA4" didn't get enough publicity even after they released a crappy trailer posts?
PS: I am a GTA fan. Have played every GTA game and still think the trailer was crap. Water was good though. - Rushg60, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Why no speculation about potential links to the film "Koyaanaqatsi" and the theme of unsustainable life of modern man? The cinametography and music from game trailer were clearly inspired by the film. The previous iterations of GTA all contained satirical elements about modern urban american life (fast-food, guns, violence etc). Why just take the graphics and gameplay to the next-gen when you can take the entire theme?
- gdgi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It really is ridiculous how much 'theorizing' one game trailer can produce...talk about completely overhyped...
But, it's in true rockstar style, that you can guarantee most of these rumours will prove to be blatantly false...nothing like free marketing for Rockstar ;} - GarciasCheese, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The screenshot of the stock ticker on the building looks a lot like Morgan Stanley's headquarters at 1585 Broadway in NYC. 1585 is smack dab in the middle of Times Square.
- ostracize, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It would be interesting to compare these speculations to ones made about previous trailers Rockstar released. There would surely be some clues about which parts of the GTA IV video will be in the game by seeing which parts of GTA III, VC, or SA videos also made into the game.
- therealrico, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This admittedly is a stretch, but we see a building in LC called “GetaLife,”
which presumably is a health/life insurance building. With the number of times people “die,” could Rockstar be charging to go to the hospital? Well, it could be more likely that Rockstar could be inventing health/life insurance to stop your weapons and things from being stolen. Wouldn’t be great if Rockstar sort of took a page from Oblivion’s jail system and had GetaLife reclaim your weapons, armor, etc.—after you exit the hospital, all you’d have to do is go to GetaLife and reclaim your items? Go for it, Rockstar!”
- Nick Michetti, AMN
Umm either this guy has never ever been to New York, or he is a completely idiot, because the GetAlife building is obviously a copy of the Metlife building. That one just bugged me big time because it is so obviously wrong.- Ridikul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, I was about to say the same thing.
- bigbchew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't even live in New York and I knew that. Why would there be health insurance to get your weapons back? Just have money deducted and pick up a new gun each time you die as in the other games, simple.
- wtf00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1one thing always pissed off about rockstar is the damn secrecy I hate the *****... give us some info, I'm going buy damn game anyways.. they make us wait almost whole year and only teasing video.. bah.
- YourSexyMama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Plain and Simple...
How many games, movies, tv shows, etc... stur up this many emotions (good or bad) in 30 seconds?
I love GTA and I love what Rockstar is doing. They are making you guess, the more you guess, the more excited hoping your dreams are going to come true. Perfect advertising if you ask me. - toyotaboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1OMG, enough with the speculation, it's just a ***** game.. be patient for *****'s sake!
- Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1And this article shows what happens when you fixate too much on one game. Why should anyone care enough to waste hours of time writing about things that haven't happened yet or aren't going to be explained anytime soon? It's like having a debate of which numbers might be in the next PowerBall, kinda dumb. Get a 'gaming' life and go play other great games that are already released and available. Stop worrying so much about what'll be in GTA IV and get down to gaming. Too much yakking and not enough hackin'!
