- NoBullet2, on 10/12/2007, -14/+157SONY MAY CRY
- Shuk, on 10/12/2007, -14/+138I'm one of those rare PS3 optimists, but after seeing this headline, I could feel the punch in the stomach that Sony just received. Their high profile exclusives just keep getting chipped away slowly. I never yell "OMG PS3 IS DYING" for every lame story about the latest Sony rep comment or about how some dude saw a few at Best Buy, but this... this is a tough blow.
- LastDinosaur, on 10/12/2007, -15/+131if mgs4 and ff13 head to 360 the ps3 basically has no reason to exist anymore
- bdorry, on 10/12/2007, -14/+95Because as we all know, PS3 runs DirectX 10
- DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -17/+89Put simply enough, Sony is losing its exclusives, revenue, and most importantly: its fanbase.
*Starts the countdown until MGS4 is announced as a 360 release. - TheSmokingManX, on 10/12/2007, -18/+85Now give us that MGS 4 announcement!
- Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -34/+80***** yes, Devil May Cry rocks, and keeping it on just one console was a TRAVESTY. Count me in on buying this for the 360.
- crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -30/+75How does that relate to the comment you just replied to again?
- Systematic1, on 10/12/2007, -16/+52Now if Microsoft can get MGS4, there will be no reason to own a PS3, unless you REALLY want a cheap Blu-Ray player.
- atown44, on 10/12/2007, -7/+43Apparently they want their game to sell a couple copies.
- DanteDefiance, on 10/12/2007, -12/+46HOLY COW!! YES!
One of the few reasons I wanted a PS3...just gimme the MGS4 news we've all been waiting for and we can finally close the door on Sony's video game chapter.
No system rules for 3 generations in a row. Atari couldn't do it, Nintendo couldn't do it, and history will show that neither can Sony.
It's all about the 360 and Wii this time around. - taxman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34@crazy,
PS2's advantage was always its 3rd party titles like GTA,FF,MGS and the likes. The big 1st party titles are GT and God of war. GT is a generic racing game and can be comapred with xbox's forza or PGR. Not many people are gonna decide to buy a system based on these games. God of war, their only unique 1st party title sold less than 2.5 million copies. Compare that 2.5 mil on a user base of over 100 million with Xbox's 1st party titles like halo which sold 8 mil on a install base of 20 mil. Take other exclusives like gears of war, which will never see PS3.That sold 4 mil and counting up .
This is what gonna make the difference. With all 3rd party biggies like GTA and DMC coming over, its xbox that holds the advantage. Halo will always sell more than god of war and other 1st party tile of sony put together. If you are gonna select a console ofn1st party titles alone, would you prefer a system with god of war, ratchet, resistance or the one with halo, gears of war, mass effect, bio shock. - sdfjkln, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28Is it really so much trouble to just link the actual announcement.

Because fallenone said "nooooooooooooooooo!" and Wisgary said "yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!" - FinalLimit, on 10/12/2007, -23/+43Yay... now if only Final Fantasy XIII comes to Xbox 360... ah that would be so blissful.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19@carpespasm
Hideo Kojima, you mean. - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22"When has ASCII art ever succeeded as a digg comment?"
*insert ATHF ASCII art* - drunkninja, on 10/12/2007, -13/+32Awesome. One less reason for me to buy a PS3.
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25Wait. Let me get this straight. Your looking for reasons not to get the PS3? Just don't get one.
Think about this for a sec. Was DMC the reason people transitioned from PS1 to PS2? No.... didn't know it was comming huh? Fans of Z.O.E? GoW? Ico? Shadows?
Exclusives and hit titles are made each generation. There are bound to be new ones in every generation. The only exception to the rule is nintendo. Thier franchises ar near immortal. - javaCat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Its not a blow to the gaming industry, it shows the lengths MS is willing to go and that they are willing to work with developers to grab, what were at one time, exclusives. Choice is rarely a negative and I am happy that this is multiplatform, when consoles cost so much as to make consumers go "one or the other" its always nice to lose as few games in the process as possible.
- DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+26@ staticneuron
Seriously? If you consider Saints Row and Enchanted Arms to be on the same level as Devil May Cry... LMAO. - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15It doesn't just apply to DMC4. GOOD games SHOULD be everywhere you may say, but that's even more true when you think about the 360.
Read up: ""This announcement means that PS3, Xbox 360 and PC owners worldwide will be able to experience [...] "
That's it right there. PC. Anything you make for the 360 is easy to port to PC. We all ignore this important detail a little too much -- it's something VERY important for game devs. - Mazy1, on 10/12/2007, -15/+29AGREED!
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19oh.... its mario riding yoshi, that took a while....
- robdickinson, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19Exclusives suck, so less of them is better. Why do I (personaly) need 2 or 3 consoles of equal power/capabilities just because the maker ties in some specific games.
It helps the cosole maker, not me. This round, at least for now, looks like almost all of the non 1st party owned developers are going x platform. - slimscane, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18I think this pretty much sums it up:
http://achievements.schrankmonster.de/Achievement.aspx?text=You%20Saved%20200%20US%20Dollars - Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15They will generally look better on the platform that they were originally developed for. Since most of these games were made for the 360 then ported to the PS3 there will have to be sacrifices made unless the developer goes back and recreates alot of the game assets for the different in architecture. In the case of the PS3, its installed base is not big enough to warrant a proper port from a 360 game. The only exception to this so far is Oblivion which does look slightly better on the PS3. I suspect the PS3 version of DMC4 will also be the better version of the game since the majority of its development was done with only the PS3 in mind.
Eventually both consoles will have a big enough installed base that it becomes pointless to optimize for either system and then all games will be designed with the lowest common denominator in mind. Or the developers will optimize for both although this makes little or no sense from a business perspective especially given the "good enough" mentality that has taken hold of most consumers over the last ten years or so. - JohnClabo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+213rd party exclusives are a thing of last gen...
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -14/+24Just like all other multiplatfrom games it will run and look better on the 360 then the PS3 version.
- namtellum, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16you are a bozo.
- pronouncable, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11The press release from capcom specifically says:
"Capcom’s "Devil May Cry 4" Goes Multiplatform! Mega-hit Title set for PLAYSTATION® 3, Xbox 360™ and PC!" - senseigmg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Dugg for using the term bozo. I need to use that more often.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14"Final Fantasy XIII-XV, God of War 3, Team ICO Project (vaporware), MGS4, built in wifi (not a game), next gen DVD (not a game), Heavenly Sword"
3/29/2007.....
Final Fantasy, GOW3, MGS4, Heavenly Sword.
I remember when that list of games used be HUUUUUGE. 4 months after launch and that's pretty much it now, huh? Pretty sad. - pooper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11DMC3 was released for the PC also, just sayin...
- HalfBurntToast, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14I think Wii sales/demand say differently. (Thats not fanboyism, I like the 360 also)
- EGOvoruhk, on 10/12/2007, -16/+23They could always just rebadge it as a "cheap" Blu-ray player
- crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -11/+18"no im not a fanboy at all"
Suuuuure...
Also, I don't think you know what glorified means. - Hipple, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Surprising that a guy who owns all three consoles wouldn't care about games being cross-platform. Since he can, ya know, play them regardless.
One of the things that I think has been interesting is the whole "Non-exclusivity is a new industry trend" comment. Last time I checked, MS and Nintendo aren't losing any exclusives. I think non-exclusivity is a new Sony trend, but that may just be splitting hairs. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9way to contradict yourself.
- badsn95, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9All of this fanboy stuff is crazy. With the cost of game development today, the only way we will see exclusives is if they are either 1st party or highly paid(off) by sony or microsoft.
Sony already said they where going to develop new better 1st party stuff rather then pay high dollars for exclusive 3rd party games. They have already showed it 2 times, Heavenly sword and Little Big Planet.
I happen to like better this way. Some titles are always better on certain consoles and everybody wins. The fanboys keep the system of their choice alive and I don't have to buy $2000 of game consoles and equipment. - jetx29, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14@staticneuron
Also, there is a difference if you look at a hypothetical situation where all games were released on both systems. In this scenario the 360 wins on the lower price point (as I highly doubt the nicer graphics [though we haven't even seen that yet] would justify a $200 higher price). The PS3 losing exclusives is a bigger hurt to Sony than Microsoft losing them just by virtue of this price difference. At least as far as I can tell. - jmdajr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Sony you guys have totally dropped the ball
- CanadianGeese, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Don't digg me down for saying this, but I kinda prefer playing a game on my 360 because it adds to my gamerscore, it'll have rumble, and will most likely have online play.
If I did have all 3 consoles, and a game was released on all 3, I'd get the 360 version. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"if mgs4 and ff13 head to 360 the ps3 basically has no reason to exist anymore"
I don't know about that. I own a 360 and have no intention of buying a PS3, but I'd change the statement above to "if mgs4 and ff13 head to 360 the ps3 basically has no reason to be as expensive as it is anymore."
If the games are all the same, then the PS3 better lower its price more competitively. As much as they'd like to think, a new movie format alone will not sell a GAMING console. Sony should have learned that from the PSP. I always loved the Dualshock controller more...until the Xbox 360 controller came out. Now if only they'd add rumble to the SIXAXIS and drop the price to the same level as the 360 I'd be willing to be on board. - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8@henry
You're getting buried because what you posted has absolutely no logic to it. Let's try to follow your logic:
Capcom is making game X which used to be a PS3 exclusive.
It is no longer a PS3 exclusive.
Therefore, games A, B, and C will no longer be Xbox 360 exclusives, nor will their sequels be Xbox 360 exclusives.
That's why you're getting buried. Because what you posted is just plain stupid. - MaynardJK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4bigbadgoat
I have seen Sonic on a Nintendo console. And DMC 2 is the worst of the three. - MrSteamTank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually an 82 corolla would probably be worth 100 or so dollars which is what the metal in one is worth. For 500 bucks I'd probably get a 1990 corolla. 8)
- xynder, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9...it's as if millions of PS3 fanboys cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced...
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7What I want to see is which system the AAA titles coming out later this year look best on, with Dark Sector, Assassins Creed, and DMC4 being designed originally for the PS3.
- Kidman13, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8One less reason to buy a PS3....and one more reason to buy a XBOX 360
