- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+74I don't think that PS3 will miss their launch window but I don't believe they'll hit their sales targets either. Given the option of creating a game with an installed base of X million units (Xbox 360) and a system with an incredible amount of mindshare (Wii) or a system that seems to be leaving a bad taste in EVERYONE'S mouth with *no* installed base - what would you do?
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -7/+57In other news the PS3 is too much money, supposedly a computer and has limited features. Next week Sony will claim it can kill cancer and stop world hunger, back to you Bob.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40You left out a critically important option: Keep developing for the PS2. At the current rate, it will have outsold everything this year and already has a -massive- installed base.
Usually previous gen consoles start winding down after the next-gen has been released, but that doesn't appear to be happening with the PS2. My guess is that the 360's price is already too high. If that's the case, the Wii stands to do amazingly well, if they can just get the games right. Furthermore the PS3 won't really start selling to the mainstream for about 3 years. - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44Hey you can't always be in the limelight...It's finally time for Nintendo to rise back to the top!
- truspector, on 10/12/2007, -16/+53This is probably a good idea for developers since the PS3 will fail to launch by Christmas, and that is the time of the year when they really need the strongest sales.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -7/+31Actually, to add to that, it's not just that the 360 is expensive, it really is lacking in games. It has a few good ones, but basically it does not have a killer must-have game. A console really needs one killer over the top game to really compel people to buy in early.
- falcon1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23C4PT41NJ4CK, do us all a favor and stop posting messages. Your not "owning" anyone. Your just making an ass of yourself.

With a heaping helping of proprietary format goodness. - AmazingAndrex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Ted: "THQ recently announced they are scaling back games for the PS3, and it appears one of their Wrestling titles is now on the chopping block. A THQ developer had this to say: 'Sony COULD come to us and say, We need your games, but we both know they won't, them being the arrogant pricks they are'. Back to you, Diane."
- LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I have a feeling there will be a distinct parallel between the PSP and the PS3...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22ill buy whatever console has good games.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18"Remember who made it cool to actually have grown-up content in gaming?"
Sega? They had the "mature" image... especially during the senate investigation involving games like Mortal Kombat and Night Trap.
Also, which company wanted BMX XXX censored? That's right, Sony. You could see breasts on the GC and Xbox... but not the PS2. Isn't that funny how the "kiddy" console showed more than the "adult" console? I thought so. - SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18And that was Captain Jack with today's 60 seconds of incoherent angry rambling. Next up it's Ted with today's sports news. Ted.
- Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17The PS1 outsold the PS2 during the PS2's first year, you know.
It's not a bad thing, but had little bearing on the "next gen" consoles of the time. - taylorhayward, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21RRRiiidddddggeeeee RRRRraaaacccceeeerrrrr!

- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I think it makes good business sense for developers to hang back for now, or as EA puts it "evaluate the PS3's potential." Sony is being recklessly arrogant at this point. Despite severe fan and developer backlash to E3's price announcement Sony still maintains sales forecasts of 100 million PS3 units. That's insane.
EA and other companies at least are taking notice of where the consumers are headed. There have been several cancelled or delayed PS3 titles already and I think more are coming. THQ just cancelled their first PS3 sports offering, preferring to try again in the 2007 season.
Third party support has always been Sony's strong point. And this time, the support is leaving. Without it Sony doesn't have any first party exclusives that will draw in consumers especially at a $600 price point. - SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Captain Jack reminds me of the angry Sony fan.

- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Nintendo gets the rap as the "kiddy" console. Yet Conker's Bad Fur Day on N64 is uncensored while the remake on the "mature" Xbox has parts editted out and bleeped that were on the "kiddy" N64. Sony's real "mature" too, what with the Bob the Builder game being an exclusive and Winnie the Pooh's Big Adventure.
Just what exactly constitutes a "mature" system? A system is just a box. Games are mature and all the consoles have kiddy games. Xbox and PS2 have Cars, Shrek and other children's games. Gamecube has Metroid Prime and BMX XXX. Does that make any system more mature than any other? Do we even care? Does maturity effect a game's quality? - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"Quite a situation we've got here Tom."
"Quite a situation we've got here Tom indeed Diane." - LordRahl72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I never thought I would ever need to use that block user option. But I find it does come in very handy when need be.

As for me I will be getting all consoles just to keep all my bases covered - boomerxl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"High definition road"!!!!
Finally a console that can do Desert Bus justice.
Actually if things keep going this way for Sony that'll be the only game they'll have a chance of securing. - bluemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8First time I ever blocked a user.

Get raedy to buy a lot of consoles:
Nintendo DS: only system to get Final Fantasy 3 in the US
Nintendo Wii: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle series (i believe a CC game will be on DS too...)
XBox360: Only console with Final Fantasy 11 (also on PC)
And SquareEnix hasnt stated yet whether FF games beyond 12 will be multi platform or not. I wouldnt be surprised if they branch out beyond the PS based on all the FF games coming out for other platforms already. - Ocelot13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8the 3 major franchises that sony had, are now down to two. they had mgs, final fantasy, and gta. gta is no longer launch exclusive. ive never liked final fantasy, and one game, mgs, isnt enough for me to spend $600 on a ps3. sorry sony, ill stick to my $400 360 that has pgr, geometry wars, and eventually halo 3.
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Apparently in order to port a game to the PS3, it must be rebuilt from scratch. That requires so much extra time and money that it won't really be an option to release games on all platforms, at least not on the PS3. I can see why cross platform developers like EA are wary of the PS3. If it's too expensive no one will buy it. If no one buys it it isn't worth the extra cost to port a game to it. Check this out:
http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/Porting_PC_games_to_the_PS3_may_take_studios_over_3_years_to_accomplish. - Marthinus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7My 2 cents on this is that the PS2 still has the most games, biggest install base. The latest PS2 games' graphics is also very good if you haven't invested in a new HDTV set yet. So coming this christmas I will fork out cash for some new PS2 games since my current TV can not handle HD which means the new gen console games won' t give me much more than the latest PS2 games that pushes the PS2 limits anyway.

blocked / reported - snorggy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I'm not so sure developers are gonna abandon the PS3.. the only way they will maximize profits is by releasing a game on as many platforms as possible to sell as many copies as possible. Despite being at a clear disadvantage in the current gen (installed base wise) developers still had no problem releasing games on the xbox.
If we were to apply this logic to current gen, the PS2 would get all the games and developers would have no reason to develop xbox games.
It's terribly easy to beat up on Sony right now, but let's be realistic here. - AmazingAndrex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7^^^
You forget PCs are ever evolving. Consoles are just PCs with gamepads, and they can't do much else. Plus, not even a PS3 and a Phantom combined can run Crysis. - StickyShoez, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9It's going to be a bumpy road for Sony. Oh well, at least it will be a High Definition road....well at least for the $599 unit.
- salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yes, some games on the PS2 look better than some of the games on the Xbox360, but then, it's not really fair comparing XBLA to the PS2.
