- raitchison, on 10/10/2007, -1/+46I'll admit I'm a Gran Turismo whore, I bought a PS2 so I could play GT3, and got GT4 the day after it's release.
I've said for a long time that the barrier to me buying a PS3 is sub $400 price tag and the availability of GT5. - djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -3/+40Why not link to the source? http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=519
- nublet, on 10/10/2007, -10/+44get rdy for all the 360 fanbois' flooding "these shots are not ingame" and "pgr4 will look way better" etc...
- dvsbastard, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32Eeek! What is with the rear view mirror in the in car view?
- seanc6610, on 10/10/2007, -2/+29uhh i think i'm gonna break down and buy a ps3 now. i love sony stuff, especially the ps2, but i didn't have true justification to dump that much cash on the 3. finally got my reason, and i just got a new hdtv. :)
- YouRookies, on 10/10/2007, -4/+28There's also, "omfg, GT has no dmg!! its not real!"
- CrimsonBlur, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26The first two shots really got me excited, then the actual in-game racing shots came up and it was like looking at a completely different game. The cars look fantastic, but that's about it. The environments don't look very good, very low texture quality and they have no depth at all. It's nice to see the car interiors, but again the textures are not very good, plus the mirrors are completely useless, hopefully that will be fixed. I really hope these screen shots are not indicative of the final product, because it has a long way to go, but supposedly this game is coming out by the end of the year.
- Powerdrift, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16There's no way it will remain that way. I can't imagine them keeping such a thing when everything else is perfect.
- RooDoG, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Something that isn't finished yet.
- futureteg, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17same here....the only reason I bought the PS2 was to play GT4..and the only reason I haven't bought a PS3 is because there is no GT5
- victorycig, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13I've never been a big fan of driving games, but the good franchises seem to really push graphics capabilities. Those first two pics with the cobble stone street and green umbrellas looks fabulous. Can't wait to see what the finished game looks like.
- profingersk8er, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12screw these web blogs, TONS more screenshots available directly on Gran Turismo's website!
http://www.gran-turismo.com/jp/gt5p/screen/ - Skitals, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Why do all the objects in the screenshots looks like they were cut out and glued onto the background? Such as in this one:http://www.destructoid.com/elephant/photo-m.phtml?photo_key=12239&post_key=37192#photo
How creepy do those people look? - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14same here. I was never interested in consoles until I played GT4 in my cousin's house. I was hooked and bought a PS2 with a wheel solely to play GT4. I blame it for my poor exam results.
- v0yeur, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12emphasis on DRIVING - geez. Can no one enjoy PGR, Forza and GT for their individual strengths? *****, if they were all the same, what would be the ***** point really?
- achoi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10incorrect. Take a closer look.
- leif77, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16For a moment i thought, "Where are the in game pictures, not just the pics of the cars that are going to be in the game." Then i looked very very closely, and believe it or not... I still couldn't really tell if it was cg. Very, very well done.
- CDoug03, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Jebus Christ. I thought they were photographs at first.
- theberlindoctor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9This game really looks amazing. I wonder how the physics are..
Wouldnt take much to beat Forza 2 in the looks department, however, thats only half the story. If the physics are even half as good as Forza 2, this would be a deciding factor in picking up a PS3. - thepol, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7DiRT does damage reasonably well, and the graphics aren't too shabby either...
- PunkRampant, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Anyone who thinks PGR4 is gonna look as good as GT5 is delusional, and I'm a 360 fan.
Those are some damn good looking cars. - xister, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Yeah, I wish it had damage, but I read an article as to why they haven't done it yet. It takes them soooo long to just map out the cars and get them perfect. To do (true to life) crashes, they have to map out the same skins and reshape them in various ways to make them look dented/twisted/etc. It takes one guy 3 mos. to map out a car. It would take the same guy almost a year working on the same car to do crash damage (considering the car has to be mapped deeper than the skin) and that's just one car. Not to mention that each car handles differently depending on what is wrecked on it. (torsion bars, busted springs or shocks, etc.) Multiply that by the 20 some cars that they're probably going to have and the workload goes through the roof. It's just not practical yet to do realistic damage.
- MalDON, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8So your RL has bad anti-aliasing, low res textures, and jagged shadows?
- Lasereth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I seriously thought those first two were cool real life promo shots. Then I looked closer and it's in-game engine. Hoooooly crap.
- DaFunk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6The cars look nice, along with interiors, but the in-game scenery (grass, walls, crowds, etc.) have a long way to go. (I hope.)
- BenO169, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Yea but it looks like NES graphics! You would definitely notice that on a nice 60" plasma
- tastypastry, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Physics? Have you ever played a GT game? Probably the best racing game out there as far as realism goes.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No, Gran Turismo 5 is coming out in 2008. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, a product similar to Gran Turismo HD, will be released as a free download at the end of this year.
- brendar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's rendering what's behind the car at a very low resolution. They probably don't want it dragging down the frame rate while they're optimizing the core game.
- jdoc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5So is "Delicious" the new digg substitute for BREAKING or AMAZING ?
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3looks pretty sweet...is there a force feedback steering wheel/pedal set?
- catharz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I believe Prologue will be a purchase (as GT4 prologue was).
- djfreex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Please NOTE: Work in progress!
- triplehelix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3we'll have to see them in motion to say.
- nublet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31. click link
2. open eyes
3. process visual information
4. complain on digg that ur looking at cg
***** retard. - kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This older story didn't quite make it to the front page with the same pics.
http://digg.com/playstation_3/Gran_Turismo_5_to_Use_Real_Time_Weather_Data - shaun1018, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7I have both and I will say this. I will have to bust out my PS3 for Tursimo 5 Until then it gathers dust in the corner of my room.
- KniteWulf, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5He's totally right. The textures on the gloves and the Ferrari logo on the steering wheel look really bad, considering the PS3 is supposed to be a graphics powerhouse. Every screenshot looks terrible. Everything has choppy edges
- thepol, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I agree -- they need to turn on the antialiasing!
- Optimaximal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That's bull. Nobody in their right mind would 'manually' design damage models anymore. That's like Infinity Wards excuse that the crappy repeating death animations in Call of Duty 1 & 2 were more realistic than Havok 2 rag dolls.
All they need to do is model crumple zones and allow the physics engine to do the rest.
The real reason for the lack of damage modelling is as usual. The companies that license the cars won't allow them to be damaged without extra license fees. It always has been the same, which is why Need for Speed games rarely feature damage modelling. - KLikLo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Now, if Sony could add a vagina to the PS3 I could divorce my wife!
- po43292, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I went on a date with Rosy Palm and her 5 sisters over it. Is that too much info?
- SambekZX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I thought the same thing. The jagged shadows, blurry textures, and lack of anti-aliasing are really disappointing. If this is the best the PS3 can offer, then I'm starting to wonder whether I should just focus on PC upgrades.
- Gunegune, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Gran Turismo 5 Prologue uses the GT4 engine, so naturally errors like this would occur in the game and is a good explanation as to why the interior doesn't look so good. When Gran Turismo 5 ships, it will use the GT5 engine which should provide huge graphical improvements.
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3DiRT doesn't have 600 cars and three dozen tracks to play on. Also, DiRT's online mode is, well, not really online.
- mobber, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1uh, does at the bottom of the page, it says "It turns out that the site that first posted the news admits that the list was fake."
- mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4I'm in the same boat I just got ps3 last week because all the diggers orgasmic over gt5. I have xbox and deciding what games to buy for each console is already giving me a ulcer.
- TitanX7, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3They need to stop slapping on there name on real images. Shame on them!
- grumbel, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Not when you touch another car, since damage model is non-existent.
- Gravey9, on 10/10/2007, -8/+9i came in my pants...just a little
