- EvolvedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+105"My fantasy game system would be a complex 512-bit system."
Though it is not the same context, Wii comes with 512 MB built-in flash memory.
"It could display 27,876,992 colors at one time"
Wii can display 16.7 million colors.
" and could play any game from any video game system that ever was or ever will be!"
Virtual Console
"There would be a miniature band inside that knew how to play any song!"
Nintendo E3 2006 press conference started with a band playing music that plays based off of the Wiimote.
"You could even buy your own special chip that would allow you to make your own games for it!"
Quote from http://wii.nintendo.com/hardware.html - "It also will be home to new games conceived by indie developers whose creativity is larger than their budgets."
"What game would come with the system, you ask: Super Mario Galaxy, better known
as Super Mario Bros. 24!"
Creepy.
The system would come with six 27-button controllers
If you count every button on the Wiimote, as well as Nunchuk, and include each axis of sensitivity for rotation, x,y,z as well as lateral movement sensitivity, as a seperate method of input, you get a number very close to 27 if not on the dot.
"and would cost $259.95."
Considering inflation, that same price today would be $382.86, nearly the price of the premium edition of Xbox 360.
"I would call it The Raw Power System!"
From this day forth, I hereby proclaim that the Wii also be known as "The Raw Power System" in honor and respect of Jimmy Peterford of Glen Cove, NY and his awesome insight into the future! - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+71[[no one wants a "cow-milking, breakfast-cooking, dishwashing video game console"]]
Sony does... - campusten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+68Nintendo should hire that kid as their r&d guy.
- inactive, on 11/10/2007, -0/+54Somebody gots to track down this Jimmy Peterford of Glen Cove, NY. I bet hes got a Delorean on his driveway.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+54That "kid" is probably close to 30 by now. =P
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+52Jimmy Peterford of Glen Cove, NY.
I would guess that *maybe* it's a guy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+51lol, they also predict the sims!
dugg. - AndrewJC, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48Well, I wouldn't be so sure... I mean, it's been fifteen years and there have been remarkable advances in sex-change surgeries in that time. :)
- rezophonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37It seems to me they predicted Harvest Moon, not The Sims... A good game still, so they were wrong.
- kimastergeorge, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38And that kid would name the system the "Raw Power Machine." That's definitely a reason for Nintendo to hire him. That's way better than what they came up with... "Wii"...
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36Actually, they predicted there wouldn't be much of a market for The Sims.
Now it's what...the best selling game franchise ever released? - cmikesell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30@PvtJenkins
Super Mario Galaxy is a natural progression of Super Mario World, I'm sure that's what he was thinking - cam2009, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30It wasn't my finding, it was from GoNintendo, and originally on Kotaku. I didn't add this part in, but at the end in another square is Nintendo Power saying no one wants a "cow-milking, breakfast-cooking, dishwashing video game console".
- KJSatz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Shoot s/he even predicted the Classic Games/back catalog!
- Yokai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28"That "kid" is probably close to 30 by now. =P"
Well, wouldn't it be better to hire him then? I mean he is so much older...
I wonder if he ***** his pants when he found out they were calling their new game Super Mario Galaxy. ; ; - charge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Maybe they did? :D
- Albaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25They say that kids and drunkards always speak the truth ;)
- superrcat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Reader suggestions do make it into products...it just takes 16 years.
- DasPope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21never cared for the "wii"
now "The Raw Power System" thats a keeper - mkp2k4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22but Bush NEEDED Brain Age...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Hey cam2009 how did you come across this?
- sabster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17lmao what a prediction... he is just some kid messing around.
- modsuperstar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Having a 1 user license on your Count Chocula could be advantageous.
- humanawho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14i think is was talking more as in your computer is 32/64 bit system and the nes was an 8 bit
- shrech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14its like that writer who predicted the titanic incident.
- rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13It would be really cool if they sent him a free Wii with a copy of Super Mario Galaxy. Cool companies do this kind of stuff, they already sent Bush a DS with a copy of Brain Age, and Google sent aspirin to that blogger with a headache. It is a good technique because people tend to blog about the good deed and it becomes popular, boosting that company's image.
- DruSam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Maybe Nintendo got the name "Super Mario Galaxy" from this magazine? Companies do look over old reports (or magazines) and customer comments to find new ideas.
- corcad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Do you think Nintendo had a browse through their back catalog looking for ideas?
- G4techTV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12In the September 2006 issue of Nintendo Power, someone wrote in about this "prediction", and NP re-posted Jimmy's letter in the issue. (They actually took the vol. 31 scan of the letter, copied it, shrunk it, and pasted it in the issue. You can tell because it has the big 'M', blue title "If we only had 27 fingers," and the letters look like they aren't their original size.)
- JeremiahLBurns, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I totally agree. If this kid...excuse me...man...doesn't get at least a free Wii, Nintendo 'done him wrong'!
- Albaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@Raian
The visuals on that thought are gross! I wouldn't like my breakfast cereals with DRM on them :P - superrcat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I hope there is something revolutionary about Super Mario Galaxy and that it doesn't just wind up being a newer Mario 64.
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10He should get a cut from Wii's massive profit.
- l0g1c, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I don't know about you, but that honestly just rocked my face off.
- superrcat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Actually, it was referring to a controller with 27 buttons. The point of the article is the fact that Wii will ship with Super Mario Galaxy, like the article states.
- Albaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros 1, 2, 3, Lost Levels, Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2, Super Mario Clash, Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Game Boy's Donkey Kong, Game Boy Advance's Donkey Kong, 5 Mario Karts, 2 Golf games, 4 Tennis Games, 1 Soccer game, 1 Baseball game, 2 Super Smash Brothers, 5 Mario RPGs, 7 (?) Mario Parties, New Super Mario Bros... I'm pretty sure that I'm still forgetting a few + the ones that have Mario as a non-playable character (Like Donkey Kong Jr. or Game Boy's Tennis, where Mario was a referee)... That already makes far more than 24 games :)
- dmbrunjes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Just called him up, he seemed kind of suprised. When I reminded him of the letter he wrote he was like OH *****, I PREDICTED IT! He seemed pretty excited. I thanked him for his time and hung up.
- GerbilSoft, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12With 512 bits of memory, even the Atari 2600 would beat it.
512 bits = 64 bytes
The Atari 2600 has 128 bytes of RAM. - Dracker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Now you're gonna digg effect some dude's phone? Not cool :(
- tetremo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9or a phone booth
- shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6So exciting! Let's call some random guy with a like name in a similar town to ask him about an insignificant letter he may or may not have written 15 years ago.
Harassment is fun! - dogside, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If you count only the Mario games that started with "Super Mario" you might get closer to 24
- babylonian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wow, that makes you look so cool and cynical I can hardly contain my adoration for you.
In the most recent Nintendo Power, someone pointed this out to the editors and they responded with "Now that's creepy..". It's real. - jedi0utkast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5He changed his name, now he goes by Reginald Fils-Aime.
- therayven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Including all the non-platforming games (ex. Mario Kart), how many Mario games have been released total for all systems? How close was the kid to 'Super Mario Bros. 24'?
- Gremlinclr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6How could a new Mario 64 ever be considered a bad thing?
- Edrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I actually have the original magazine, in pretty good condition too. When I saw the scan from this article I thought "Gee, that looks pretty familiar...."
The next page has a Tetris quilt, Mario Snowman, and Lego Mario. Kids were so creative back then.... - joebrodie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5But did you tell him to go digg his own story?
- mtrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Ok, now he's gonna get stalked by Digg.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well, if my Wii doesn't come with a tiny band inside now, I'm going to be pissed.
