- tafkase7en, on 10/12/2007, -0/+60I saw the VGA's for the first time yesterday and was like wtf? They showed the same 5 games in every category, no joke. That was such a horrible show, with a horrible audience. What a disaster.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+61Yeah, that comedian girl (Sarah Silverman) did nothing besides throw out every washed up joke and stereotype about gamers she could think of. It wasn't funny because it was all just so stale and "been there, done that". I'm a girl who doesn't even play games that much, and even I was annoyed at her stupid routine.
- rarkai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+49"Dear Spike TV VGA's, I Hate You"
This was all it took to get a digg from me. - doddilus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44... it was still better than gphoria
- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41did anybody notice Tony Hawk's horribly blown "all your base are belong to us" joke that nobody got or laughed at?
I started watching the VGAs and turned it off after a few minutes cause it was just too painful! - Yashar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36Why dont these stupid mainstream networks listen!? They should realize gamers aren't some brainless drones who sit in the dark and play video games for days at a time. They are real people like you or me. This goes especially for G4TV.
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34Mr. Foos...
You misspelled it.
Three letters:
M
X
C - rarkai, on 10/12/2007, -13/+44I would still do her.
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Comedy Central should be doing awards shows by now. I think a video game one would fit in pretty well. And they have a great lineup of people to host and present, like Colbert, Stewart, Mencia, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the Daily Show correspondents...
Oh, and people also *watch* that channel. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33Damn shame too because Sarah Silverman is usually kinda funny.
- btgoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25These award shows are for the EmptyVee generation, you know. The hippity-hoppity modern kidz... What did you expect?
And the award for best use of the Pixel Shader model in an RPG goes to....
And as for Sarah Silverman... the funniest thing she does is Jimmy Kimmel - SineNomen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24I have, it's when you use the TV to play games instead of watching idiots talk about them.
- Zidul, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28I agree, i was expecting better. While me and bro were watching, i was basically saying "watch, they're gunna make fun of _____" and i was right 90% of the time, too.
very predictable, and didnt have a single person that was influential the the video game industry (they had the oblivion team, thats it)
Oh, and that dumb 'comedian' bitch pissed me off. she did the same bit about video game nerds last year too, i think. terrible.
to be honest, the only reason i watched it was for the WoW trailer, but it was butchered with the lights glaring right at the projection..sigh.. - kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18At first I laughed at your statement of Cops being on G4, then I turned on the TV to see what was on, and I thought "Oh, Cops is on, what a coincidence!" and then I looked at the channel, and when it said "G4TV", a tear rolled down my face.
- brokekneck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17 By now you would think that..... They should have had Trey Parker and Matt Stone host it. At least we know they will research, they did pretty good with that south park episode.
- Dujenwook, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I just watch it for MXC ... great stuff
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I just watch Spike for CSI reruns. I didn't know they did any new programming.
- yensed, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Oh darn, I missed it... I was busy watching Cops and Cheaters on G4..
- NateB2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13http://www.duggmirror.com/gaming_news/Dear_Spike_TV_VGA_s_I_Hate_You
- deacont23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I usually watch spike for the James Bond marathons
- Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12because they probably don't read digg... or anything else that has to do with the internet.
- Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12i'm guessing that comment is relevant to your life?
- Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Only good thing about that network is that they do not rape star trek other than the excusable watermark in the corner.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Think shes out of material...
- frequenicity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@Brokekneck
Yes! Plus, they are avid gamers as well. Perfect choice. - reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Mencia is the worst comedian alive. Even worse than Dane Cook.
He's the worst part of Comedy Central. - Knoton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Spike wasn't nearly as bad back when they were TNN
- JonVisc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Actually the guys from Reno 911 that did the short skit was pretty funny.
See that hooker, what should you do? Call the police!
See that bully beating up that kid, what should you do? Call the police!
This game sucks! I'm gonna go run over that Pig right there! Take that 5-0!
Or something like that... definitely the funniest thing about the VGA's. - Spo8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I turned it on long enough to see Tony Hawk completely botch his "All your base" joke.
"Remove every... umm, great justice... for zigs?"
*Longest awkward silence I've ever seen on television* - johnny23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I always thought Silverman was just "hot chick" funny. She's really hot and everyone wants to bang her, so everyone laughs at her jokes. She was just able to make a career out of it.
- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Sarah Silverman is hot? I would say that she's kinda cute, but definitely not hot. She's been getting too skinny lately too. I liked that "gay talking teddy bear" bit she did for that puppet prank call show on Comedy Central. That whole altercation that she had with the Asian rights activist was funny too.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Icons" used to be an incredible, highly intelligent show about the biggest contributors to the gaming industry. Now it's been dumbed down to include musicians and movie stars.
- LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8If they hired a couple of your average IRC or message board video game junkie they could have made the show quite good. I think anyone who PLAYS GAMES could have made it better.
I thought it might be interesting but I turned it on just as tony hawk got onto the stage and said "all your base are belong to us". I then turned it off and shuddered. - launchpadtt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6her bit had to be the most embarrassing moment in the whole show. She must have deservingly felt like a complete a-hole once it was done. Why does everyone think she's hot? She's not that good-looking.
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The best part is that Sarah Silverman is 36 years old and is single. She's resorted to being the rebound girl for people like Jimmy Kimmel.
She's the loser. - JaybeasCorpus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I might be mistaken, but it looks like you used the words "Mencia" and "great lineup" in the same sentence, without the words "not" or "never" involved. Was that a typo?
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Mencia sucks.
- Massif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's not exactly "TV" but The 1UP Show is probably the best gaming content around. There's no douchebag hosts or hip young pop stars. It's just game reviewers sitting around the office talking about games.
- 1773nium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Gametrailers.com, 1up.com, gamespot.com and the geniuses at adult swim should create a video games award show. Get Conan O'Brien and Craig Ferguson to host it, all the comedy you could want and then have industry insiders to present.
That would be my ideal game awards show. - PanicButton42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5G4 while never that good to begin with, has turned itself into a poor man's Spike TV
- generalginjur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Except that, in the cable markets I've seen, one will get Spike before G4 in any more basic cable package. So that would make G4 the rich man's poor Spike TV.
- badken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Because we don't like you, HaltingPoint.

Spike's VGA awards - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"I am convinced that marketers and companies have no clue who their target market is when it comes to gamers"
Actually you are wrong on this. (As are music fans who complain about the same thing and the Grammies in music, etc.) The reality is, real gamers like yourself are not the target market for these things. You aren't even on their radar. Which, given the industry in general, you should be grateful for. - darkever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I have yet to see the perfect mesh between gaming and TV.
- JonVisc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It should be on their radar. Why should the only focus of the VGA's seemingly be the actors or actresses? That doesn't make the games, it enhances them but that is it. I doubt when the Emmy's, Oscars, etc.. started they were perfect. I doubt very much that people really paid attention to producers, and production staff, and now that is done. The VGA's needs to establish its own presence and not try and copy other award shows. The categories should apply mainly to game development and design and less with how people "act" while in game. That is just a side topic. Categories like "Best AI", "Best Multiplayer", "Best Score (soundtrack)", "Most innovative", "Most addictive", "Best in [category (E-MA)]", etc... and while I repeated some of these from the actual awards show (I assume, I only watched a brief part, but if they didn't include some of these, well that is terrible) it gives you the idea that isn't about who is in a game, but what the game as a whole is composed of. I know if a category like "Best level" or something and Zelda: TP with a specific dungeon was in their I would be rooting for that, and shout something like "Hell yeah!" when it won, because it deserved it all the while I am actually thinking that the dungeon was hard but well thought out, etc...
It would also be great if they would start a "lifetime" recognition award, like GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo 64 paved the way for multiplayer as we know it. Those are respectful categories that everyone could reminisce about and think something like "Wow, yes GoldenEye was probably the best 4 player experience I ever had..."
Okay enough rambling, hopefully you get what I mean. - Iffrat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5how many times can they say MOTHER F*$&ER in one show.. ok it was funny.. 1 time.. and even then.. it was not that great.. but talk about getting played out..
and i liked TES4 and all.. i think it was a let down.. it was no morrowind.. but it was a good game.. but it was not even close to game of the year.. ~tear~
total let down.. - fooplex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"All gamers should kill themselves."
Yes, she said this. I will hate her forever along with Spike TV. There is no excuse for that. And there was no punchline. Just a statement. No, it didn't get any funnier.
You can get Star Trek on DVD. Don't be afraid to boycott Spike TV. - profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Shows like this are doing nothing to help games gain any sort of traction in the mainstream. I'm not opposed to having an awards show for video games. The makers of great games deserve to have as much recognition as great filmmakers or musicians, IMO.
I just think that an awards show presented on television to a huge audience has to be based on fair judging, and presented professionally. The Spike VGAs fail so blatantly in these areas that instead of being taken seriously, they have become so laughable that hardcore and casual gamers alike are saying "WTF, just stop".
There are already awards shows for games, and they are all over the Internet. For example, I'm a fan of Gamespot's annual Best & Worst series, but I'm also talking about any of the many other websites that have their own annual roundups. Maybe if critics could get together with developers/designers, people who actually have some cred in the industry instead of B- and C-list celebrities who are there only because their (misinformed) agents told them it would help their image, we'd have something worth watching, representing a MEANINGFUL assessment of the year's best in gaming.
I realize I'm discounting the "celebrity" factor that other awards shows have compared to the personalities in the gaming world, but I still think people would watch. - PanicButton42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Comedy Central should not touch any such thing if they are going to butcher it like they have their Roasts. The roasts were good back when they were doing them in conjunction with the Friars Club, but went to ***** when they decided to do them on their own.
Jon Stewart would probably do some pre-recorded bit that more than likely is not up to the same level of excellence that is the Daily Show. If they were to use Colbert it would bee in the same faculty as Stewart.
None of the DS correspondents would be used.
Meanwhile, the show would have such comedic superstars like Greg Giraldo, Artie Lange (Now there is someone riding a good set of coattails), and Lisa Lampinelli (sp?). They would still be able to use Sarah Silverman, and the cast of Reno 911.
I love Comedy Central, but the "Live" shows that they produce tend to be crap.
...not that it could be any worse than what was on Spike... -
