David Hayter wants to write the MGS movie but needs our help
neogaf.com — In a posting on his IMDB page, Hayter urged the fans to email Matt Tolmach at Sony Pictures and convince him that they want Hayter to write the screenplay. This may be our only chance to make sure the Metal Gear Solid movie has any chance of actually being good. The email address is matt_tolmach@spe.sony.com

Dont be a hater, Digg Hayter! - bigmakstudios, on 06/28/2008, -0/+13Needs more diggs. If this movie is to be made, he should write the script. He's the most obvious choice, and he's the best choice. He undoubtedly knows the material better than any other screenwriter.
- Cockstock, on 06/28/2008, -1/+8If anyone is writing a MGS movie it should be Kojima. I don't know enough about Hayter's screen writing skills to just jump into this.
- delirium, on 06/28/2008, -0/+10But Kojima himself has said he isn't writing it.
- Lane, on 06/28/2008, -0/+11I love Kojima and his work but if he writes the movie it will require 20 years 5 squeals and 15 hours for it to all make sense. Not that it wouldn't be worth it....
- linuxrocks2007, on 06/28/2008, -0/+7David Hayter wrote the screenplays for X-Men and X2, which are arguably the greatest superhero films to date.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Batman Begins, and I'm sure The Dark Knight would have to heavily disagree with you.
::EDIT:: Sorry, just noticed you said "superhero".
- mywhitenoise, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Batman Begins, and I'm sure The Dark Knight would have to heavily disagree with you.
- WinterEdge, on 06/28/2008, -1/+7Hayter wrote Xmen 1 and 2, and the upcoming Watchmen movie
- Tahiri, on 06/28/2008, -6/+1I hated both XMEN movies.
- Abno, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1You're right about X-men, but they're not using Hayter's script on the Watchmen movie anymore. He wrote a "modern adaptation" of Watchmen and that project has been canceled.
The Snyder directed Watchmen movie due out next year will be set in the same time as the comic, and is written by Alex Tse. - ezekial45, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Alex Tse used David Hayter's script for his re-write. Hayter's still getting credit for it.
- armubaba, on 06/28/2008, -0/+10Honestly, if Kojima is not gonna do it, Hayter really is the best chance we have at a good movie. Now all we need is Christian Bale as Snake, and this movie will be nothing short of epic.
- eddmanhoek, on 06/28/2008, -0/+8I agree, Hayter should be writing AND dubbing any actor playing Snake
- artfiend77, on 06/28/2008, -10/+2*****...do we really want a movie about Metal Gear? One false move can ruin it all...guys...I don't want another Street Fighter The Movie :(
- mywhitenoise, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1I love the Resident Evil series (games). Those movies are so bad that I often forget that they were even made. If the MGS movie is bad, it wont have any effect on me.
- artfiend77, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1True, you make a good point. But it just breaks my heart nonetheless to think of the possibility to see one of my favorite franchises being butchered for the almighty dollar.
I love David Hayter ( yes, even in Guyver!) but if he does go through this, I wish him the best.
- C00LI0, on 06/28/2008, -4/+1GOOOO HAYTER
- FISTFULOFMETAL, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6Hayter does this for a living and he has a deep understanding of the MGS mythos. He's perfect for the job.
- Darkangel754, on 06/28/2008, -1/+5Hayter would be the perfect choice to write the film! He's been working with Metal Gear since the first "Solid" game so he obviously knows the story and what fans would come to expect.
- sKiLLa182, on 06/28/2008, -4/+5I thought we already had a MGS movie. It's called MGS4. Seriously, the thing has like 8 hours of cut scenes.
- skidme, on 06/28/2008, -0/+3Yes, but if you only take the cutscenes, that's not a movie.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3MGS4 is nothing compared to MGS2, in terms of cutscenes.
- Istrancis, on 06/28/2008, -3/+13If anyone is writing a movie adaptation of "Metal Gear", it should without a doubt be Uwe Boll. With such fine adaptations as "BloodRayne", "Alone in the Dark", "House of the Dead" and "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale" under his belt, we can rest assured that the project will be safe in his capable and experienced hands.
My only hope for a Uwe Boll directed MGS movie would be that it could live up to the epic piece of cinematography that was "Postal". That wonderful film brought home a powerful, life changing message to me, and there's little chance that MGS could top that.
How and ever, we shall see my friends, we shall see...- DeviantDragon, on 06/28/2008, -1/+6Uwe Boll? I like your hopes but with his busy schedule and the number of high caliber films he gets we'd be lucky if he just took a look at the script. Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that magnificent auteur. Just as long as we stop Peter Jackson from getting his hands on it and butchering it like he did a certain trilogy that should've gone straight to DVD.
- marsianman, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1
*shudder*
Don't even joke about atrocities like that.
- macweirdo42, on 06/28/2008, -0/+4Just remember to lay on the homoerotic sexual tension and awkward dialogue, and it should be fine.
- cerealjynx, on 06/28/2008, -8/+1Don't be a Hater!
I'm friggin hilarious. - ZeoVGM, on 06/28/2008, -2/+0MUST BE DONE.
- SomeoneGNU, on 06/28/2008, -8/+1Metal Gear Solid movie? I thought it was already released as Metal Gear Solid: 4..I mean, I know a few people mistook it as a video game but I'm pretty sure it was a movie.
- hakkola, on 06/28/2008, -1/+2Another comment on Metal Gear Solid 4 being like a movie? I mean, I know a few people don't read other comments before posting, but if you look back a few comments, I'm pretty sure someone beat you to it.
- Escobar4LifeX, on 06/28/2008, -2/+6I support this! As a Metal Gear fan, I believe Hayter will do a great job! Why? He is familiar with the Metal Gear series, he's a very good screenwriter and he has played every Metal Gear Solid game. Infact, I would like Hayter to write the screenplay AND play the role of Solid Snake.
- Escobar4LifeX, on 06/28/2008, -5/+1I support this! As a Metal Gear fan, I believe Hayter will do a great job! Why? He is familiar with the Metal Gear series, he's a very good screenwriter and he has played every Metal Gear Solid game. Infact, I would like Hayter to write the screenplay AND play the role of Solid Snake.
- matt247, on 06/28/2008, -3/+0Does it even matter? The movie will suck anyways. There has never even been a good full feature movie based off a video game.
- loganhid, on 06/28/2008, -0/+9First Choice: Hideo Kojima
Second Choice: David Hayter
Third Choice: Both of them- shagg187, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2Shouldn't your 3rd choice be 1st choice?
- Ravenlark, on 06/28/2008, -0/+6Hell, if he worked out, David Hayter could PLAY Solid Snake.
- SniperWolf310, on 06/28/2008, -1/+1As long as the movie makes fun of Battlefield: Bad Company.
- mywhitenoise, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3While you're at it, why not cast him? If he worked out a bit, he could definitely play the part, just look at screenshots of him acting as Guyver.
- Rookbird, on 06/29/2008, -2/+1Screenshots of a bad live-action anime movie sequel from over FIFTEEN years ago? Yep, those definitely prove he's got the chops.
- cridz7, on 06/29/2008, -0/+6I think Hayter is the obvious choice because he knows so much about the series' story arc. The only thing(s) I don't want in the MGS movie are crotch grabs.
- GreyFoxV1, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2To the guy who made the Digg: take the email out of there as spam bots are going to ***** up his inbox you moron.
- untzboy, on 06/29/2008, -1/+1Not exactly, Alligator. David Hayter WANTS people to email him, and I'm sure Hayter was aware of that possibillity when he published his cry for help. Matt won't even read all of them. When he reads about 17 of them with the same point, from people he doesn't know, he can delete the rest from people he doesn't know while knowing full well what is in them.
- therearenorules, on 06/29/2008, -0/+2David Hayter was great as The Guyver!
hahaha... - therearenorules, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3P.S. He also has writing credits for one of the greatest films ever: The Scorpion King
- cridz7, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5Whatever. He wrote the screenplays for the two good X-Men movies.
- bolt7, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1I gave my opinion and E-Mailed the guy at Sony Pictures. I hope everything goes well for Hayter and enough people will send in intelligent messages that Sony Pictures decision will be 'slightly' influenced to go in Hayter's direction. =P
But seriously, I can't even imagine a Snake character without his famous voice over either. - WazzaInc, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Hayter should voice over snake, just take out the the guy whos playing snake's voice off and put Hayters's.
- cerealjynx, on 06/29/2008, -0/+7Kurt Russel for Big Boss
- untzboy, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Take this James Bond! I wonder what game it will be based on?
- untzboy, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1I meant which, sorry. Hopefully Snake Eater, as to properly assess the chronology.
- hotrodZoidberg, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3Metal Gear?!
- Anonymous41, on 06/29/2008, -0/+0If no one from Kojima Productions or any of the people dubbing the american version is involved, I am not watching this movie..
I will bet anything it would turn out as just another videogame movie.. which we all know suck ***** dick.
DIGG'D - M724, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1About time Hollywood bows down to their new masters at Videogame Land.
- Jswanko, on 06/29/2008, -0/+4David? David!? DAVIDDDDDDD!!!!!!
- Norante, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1METAL GEAR?!
- kyle212, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Id prefer him to just do a voiceover, because David Hayter's voice makes snake.
- swean, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Im getting on that right away, I don't want an amazing game series to be spat on by Hollywood.
- thefjk, on 07/06/2008, -0/+0Only person I'd approve of doing so... even if he messed up, I wouldn't be as pissed off like if a totally un-gamer-like-writer did it!
- Dante369, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I'm a Metal Gear fan, and I approve of this message.
- toriatama, on 07/11/2008, -0/+0The big advantage to getting David Hayter to pen the screenplay would be that it would legitimize the project for the millions of fans who are already invested in MGS. I don't know about you all, but I won't be interested in paying to watch a MGS movie that doesn't have the involvement of any of the game's team (Kojima, Gregson-Williams, Hayter, etc). I would rather stay home and replay my MGS games than watch someone with no investment in the game's past mess up a series I love.
To me, it's a no-brainer for Sony to include as many MGS folks a possible. It'll appease us fans, and hopefully create a quality movie that'll be more lucrative (for them) and true to the original (for us). - Joshunme, on 07/28/2008, -0/+0if u love the mgs games you certainly love Hayter's work.
