- ultragoregrind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28all hail dark alex!
- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Its Hot Pockets. He's cooking Hot Pockets.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27You couldn't put the letters "PSP" into the headline to make it clearer what the hell you're talking about?
- commyostrich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17ya that guy is pretty amazing. the psp is definitely more fun than the DS due to all the updates this fantastic coder puts out.
This is definitely an all-in-one gaming system on the go. It's crazy to think about all the psp can do. Full resolution mp4 movies now, mp3 (plus visualization), wireless transfer, wifi radio, nes, snes, atari, PSX, genesis, and so many more emulators. And....man so many more homebrew utilities...it's awesome!!!
(oh yea and the amazing psp games that Sony is now putting out... MGS!) - ktanuki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Then you shouldn't be browsing the gaming section of Digg in the first place, now should you?
If the terms "dark_alex", and "3.03" don't ring a bell for you, then MOVE THE ***** ALONG AND SHUT YOUR TRAP YOU PRECOCIOUS PANSY. - dpcdomino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I can smell 2.81 downgrader....PLEASE LET ME SMELL WHAT Dark_AleX IS COOKING!!!
- Tony611, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10we apoligize for forcing you to read it. We know it was totally against your will and there was nothing you could do.
- Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's a shame that to make the most of the PSP you have to use a Dark_AleX firmware, but at least this pushes Sony a bit, they'll have to really think of some killer update to the PSP.
- Lamtd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"if it only had mario kart, metroid, etc... i'd buy it"
Well it has the original Mario Kart, along with the original Metroid, Metroid 2, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission... - shadus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7No *****, the man is a genius! It's a shame sony doesn't open the psp up a bit... they could have a ds killer but instead they try to limit it and all they end up doing is keeping people from buying it.
dark_alex's work with 2.71 and such and knowlege of the changes in the community were what finally convinced me to buy it... nothing sony has done so far has made it a bit better than a DS... what dark alex is doing SELLS psps. - glasgowm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Anything below 2.8
- Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But really, why bother with the PS3 firmware when you have the Linux functionality?
- BuzzLightyear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Maybe Dark Alex IS Sony!*
Funny how all this freedom is coming now when the sales of the PSP would otherwise be trailing off.
*I've no actual evidence, it's just a thought. - ryanfelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3question: can you donate to him?
- capwn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4i agree with you.
- dvdcpu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He said he was running 3.01 DevHook, meaning he's got kernel access with homebrew, meaning he can definitely upgrade.
1) The Readme tells you pretty clearly how to upgrade. Obviously, that's included with the OE-C package.
2) I'm pretty sure that all games run, as they're run using Sony's original 3.03 kernel. - swifty12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was an idiot and updated my firmware the first day I got my psp. I'm running 3.03 and I'm gonna have to wait a long time before a compatible downgrader comes out. I'm really punching myself now.
- ChrisTek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@kevin108 ("From the title nobody knows what this ***** is for, including me. No Digg!")
If you actually read the article, and the site therein, it tells you all about it. Most hardcore PSP'ers know DarkAlex anyways. -1 - KillerKellerjr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ negativefx....
The PSP does have mario kart & Metroid with the nes & SNES emulators!!! - trunk8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, you can donate on his homepage here: http://dark-alex.org/help_to_scene.html
- sinistrguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dark Alex for President!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bravo Alex, thanks a lot!
btw, for the more knowlegeble people here, could you please answer on some of my questions?
1. Where can I find a guide/video to show me how to upgrade/flash to 3.03 OE-C?
2. I'm currently running a 3.01 DevHook, some of the games won't work, it just freezes, like Daxter for example, could anyone please confirm/deny that those games that freeze with devhook work with Alex's releases?
Thank You! :) - johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Either 1.50 or 3.02 OE or 3.03 OE - I'll have to try this when I get home tonight and update my wiki site, it would seem.
If you don't have 1.50, you can downgrade from 2.71 (usually easiest to upgrade to 2.71, then down to 1.50 if you're somewhere in between - the 2.0 downgrader is hard to find for some reason - or at least, that's been my experience). - commyostrich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2well if you were running some flashing program like FlashX or shoot I can't remember but I use one. And if you accidently delete something you...perhaps shouldn't have....you can put the 1.5 eboot inthe recovery folder and then while in recovery mode (which boots before the psp os) you can run that update and go back down to 1.5 so that your psp isn't a brick. then you could update back to 3.XX OE because 1.5 has no real advantages over 3.XX OE.
- xxNIRVANAxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2once was enough.
- dvdcpu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Look at the changelog.
- ktanuki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4as I told that other bastard earlier:
If the terms "dark_alex", and "3.03" don't ring a bell for you, then MOVE THE ***** ALONG AND SHUT YOUR TRAP, YOU PRECOCIOUS PANSY. - Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What firmware do you have to currently have to be able to install this?
- xxNIRVANAxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it goes by the official PSP firmware version (3.03 in this case) + OE (Open Edition, was SE for Special edition in 2.71) + letter (revision number)
- matriculated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12.8 is downgradable too.
- Kylem87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Click the link and you can see the changelog. What's the point of commenting here and not actually reading the story?
- Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet, thanks guys
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Quick note: if you are running custom plugins to 3.03 OE, there is the chance this will break them (such as CWCheat, which I believe is now on version G). Just a quick note to those who are rushing to upgrade. (For those who don't know, CWCheat is useful for transferring PSOne save games on the PSP, take screenshots, etc).
- Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes you can. I've donated some, not much since I'm broke, but some money to him and will continue to do so every so often. He is doing this out of his spare time and so many people expect him to now without any real gain but just for the hell of it. I like that ethic and I will try to give some positive enforcement.
At least its enough to buy him lunch :P - tomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funny what a little bit of searching can do.
- PSPon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that happened to me when I went from 1.50 to 2.00... but then they released a downgrader and it made me very happy
- glasgowm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If you're running 3.01, you can't upgrade to Dark_AleX's custom firmware. and I doubt you ever will be able to. (atleast not this year)
All games run fine in dark alex's custom firmware - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks fellas :)
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, it's exactly the same as the firmware as last month.

Legally, Sony HAVE to be seen to try to combat piracy. Opening the PSP would also open the floodgates for lawsuits. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My iRshell not works :'(
- somabc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sorry just confused by ver A, B, C etc, i thought it would go 3.02, 3.03, 3.04?
- swifty12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, that was quick.
http://digg.com/gaming_news/PSP_Firmware_2_0_3_03_Kernel_Mode_Exploit_by_Noobz_Downgrader_soon - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank You! :)
- Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No, I think he's using 3.01 on Devhook, which means he's using a homebrew-able native firmware. Basically when you update to 3.03 OE you won't even need Devhook. The games appear on Games->Memstick just as if they were UMDs (preview animations, music, and wallpaper included). It's all seamless in the GUI now and so far I haven't found an ISO (that works with any other mean) not work on 3.03.
Finished Daxter on a 3.0* OE firmware so yah, it works perfectly :) - djpsyber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes, it has a recovery mode... so you can go back to 1.5. there's not really any need to though, since the 3.03 OE firmwares are as open as 1.5 (i.e. you can run homebrew) but comes with all the latest firmware features (web browser, rss, etc).
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Really? I knew. There goes 'nobody'.
- grotty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0did you put the prx's in the seplugins folder and turn them on in recovery mode?
