- brettotte1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Lose an 'O' in "loose" ya freakin' moron! Why do SOOO many digg users and retards in general have such a problem distinguishing between "lose" & "loose"? Get it right *****!
Same with their, there, and they're. - Tomunist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Assuming they can get the logistics of it worked out, this might not be a bad idea. I personally lost 20 pound of flab playing DDR, so I can attest to its effectiveness in regards to weight loss.
- MarcTheLad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13 years ago, there was a school in LA that put DDR machines in their weight training rooms. I believe NBC did a documentary on it.
- jodamiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That makes sense. Once the weight is loose, it's much easier for it to fall off and one can finally lose it.
- HiddenS3crets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1awww, how awesome!
and in the grove sucks compared to DDR, it's a cheap knock-off - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They dont need it when they are funded for REGULAR phys ed. Then again, A LOT of suburban schools are dropping not only MUsic and Art but SPORTS as well.
I NEVER thought I would see that day come, and yet it is here. - SirBriggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My friend's sisters school has DDR arcade machines in their gym.
Crazy. - DarkZen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Either way this is funny, maybe they should change the menu in the school too... im willing to bet thats half the reason for the problem... *Sigh*
- levyjl1988, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If there was a machine like that in my highschool, it would of been messed up in 2 min cause of all the gangs in my school, but still damn I want that in my school! But not DDR but in the groove!
- WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So is there a school, then, to teach people how to spell "lose" correctly? Because seriously. SERIOUSLY, PEOPLE.
- Paul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You see, it would
be this mat that you would put on the floor and it would have different
conclusions written on it that you could jump to. - mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Shame about their loose weight. At least they don't have tight weight.
- stoops, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And for the rest of us slim jims, well, http://flashflashrevolution.com/ should do just fine.
- Slackwise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Speaking of DDR, I just ordered two RedOctane v3.0 Ignition pads so I can use StepMania to exercise.
I think it's great that schools are finally utilizing games to promote health. I wish my high school would have done that back when I was still there. :P - burnnbuild, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1You can also visit http://burnfatnbuildmuscle.blogspot.com for great advice
- lilazndrumrboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'm a freshman, and back in 7th grade in middle school, we had DDR hooked up in a PS2.....with carbon flux pads....*shudder*......we have it here in high school too..........same thing.......of course, me being asian (look at my username idiot) i rocked out on DDR...yep........no kidding.......
- Dirk7589, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The best thing about this digg is that my sister and her friend do this. They consider it a weight loss program. I always thought it was silly but i guess they weren't the only ones with the idea. If schools are buying this then they must be seeing positive results.
- binarypower, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1there just dum, don't loose your mind
- firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There should be more DDR injury reports...
- zubov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they could have done it a lot cheaper though, http://www.stepmania.com is a great product, I'm sure the school's have some semi-old computer's laying around. 1ghz is plenty!
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But how will southerners dance to J-Rock?
- zwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Schools are using DDR to have students loose weight."
Sure hope they devote more time to english composition. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats really sweet. I wish i had that in school.
- merdeisel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thats great. Teachers are total sell outs for this one.
- szekany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Foggles: even though it doesn't specify a breakdown of the costs in TFA, it's likely that most of the money is going towards the cost the pads. DDR pads are like most consumer products - you can buy a cheap "soft" (not solid) pad at WalMart for $20, and it'll last three weeks. Or you can buy a metal Cobalt Flux pad for $300, and it'll last decades. Having owned both (among a few others), I'd have to say the Cobalt Flux is well worth the money if you want to do anything more than a couple beginner songs. In a heavy use environment like a school, a cheap pad would probably be worn out in a week. The other problem is sliding; soft pads tend to move when you're trying to do complicated steps, screwing up your footing.
And a couple years ago I actually had a friend who did a DDR weight loss class. Our high school had a weird "write & do your own class" option (what can I say, it's the people's republic of Ann Arbor), so he did DDR at the local arcade for a semester. Ok, it's a totally non-scientific observation, but you sure do get quite the cardiovascular workout with that game, at least once you move beyond the beginner levels. And it's crazy addictive. I probably easily spent upwards of $400 on it at the arcade my senior year of high school.
I'm a little skeptical that this would work in a school though, because DDR is mostly an individualized game, so doing it in, say a class of 30 would require 15 machines and 30 pads. Kind of hard to scale it that way, as it doesn't work for a large group the way a game of basketball or even running on the track would. Still, a machine or two might make an interesting addition to the weight room. - samfrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We have had this in our gym for a while now...
- WClarke82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DDR is awesome. I'm glad it's been brought into school.
