DS version of Guitar Hero III to feature a guitar controller?
engadget.com — It's not set in stone, but in an interview with CNET.au, RedOctane cofounder Charles Huang suggested that the DS version of Guitar Hero III would include a guitar controller "as long as it makes sense and it plays well." Huang went on to say that RedOctane is "exploring ways to get peripherals on a DS game," more inside!

- SonicRush, on 10/10/2007, -7/+6Seems to me Guitar Hero is one of those games best played around a big TV with a couple friends to watch and take turns with, but the fact that its highly portable will hopefully make up for that. Guitar Hero in the car? Hell yes!
- dlsspy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7"Seems to me Guitar Hero is one of those games best played around a big TV with a couple friends to watch and take turns with"
I just want you to know how much effort it was for me not to respond to this with, ``No, that's your mom.''- donwilson2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11And yet, you did.

- benitojuarez, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5so are you supposed to hold the controller in two hands and use your third hand to hold the ds? Im not going to play a game that makes me set my ds on a surface.
- themastersb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Unless you're standing or something couldn't you set your DS on your lap?
- DAaaMan64, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was thinking a reasonably sized guitar controller and a stand for your ds. That might work, maybe it could tilt a little.
- twrife, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8It could easily be a handheld controller that attached to the DS or something like that. I don't have one so I really don't care.
- Agrajag, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The DS has no ports for external devices other than a microphone. It would have to be wireless.
- trunk8, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hey, look! Someone that DOESN'T own a DS. Miyamoto is shedding a tear as we speak.
- rbvmusic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2For one, the ds's sound isn't that great :/
and hopefully it'll be just as blistering fast as it's consoles predecessors
if it sounds decent and is fast I'm definitely buying it - saturdaysinbed, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12The DS already has something for that, it's called a stylus. And it makes for some damn fine rhythm games.
- bilbravo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What other rhythm games are there besides EBA? I would like to play some others.
- Destinatus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Daigasso, one of the best on the DS imo: http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/code-j/section-games/pid-1004076534/

- dryanal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Innovation can only go so far before you start making stupid *****.
- iRoy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm prepared to witness some seriously stupid "rocking out" on the subway/bus.
- UncleCrapper, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2And I am prepared to watch you doing so and think you're an idiot.
- iRoy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm prepared to witness some seriously stupid "rocking out" on the subway/bus.
- Chaos12, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Are you supposed to play this in public? Lug around a full sized guitar hero controller and look at the tiny screen?
- ClOlD, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4Gonna catch mad hate for this, but:
Is it just me, or does every minute you play Guitar Hero take about 5 minutes away from time spent learning real guitar? I might be slow, but I just can't integrate actual guitar skills with skills for these games without one suffering.- Disease, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12God I'm tired of this argument. They're both completely different concepts. Just like DDR is different from actual dancing. Skills needed in Guitar Hero are completely different than real guitar.
As for Guitar Hero on the DS, there's no way to do this without making you look like a complete asshat.- ClOlD, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I know, but I hear the music, and my first instinct is to play the proper chord, especially since a lot of the popular songs are ones I've tried to learn with my guitar earlier. I have to stop, untwist my fingers, and think about just matching the patterns.
I think I'd like it a lot better without these instrument controllers, but my friends with the game always insist I play with them.- Shaflugi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You could, you know, NOT PLAY THE GAME. Your friends aren't going to hate you forever if you refuse to play a game you suck at/hate. And if they do, you need some new friends.
- CatalystGhost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+41. Carry your guitar around to your friend's house.
2. wait for them to play a song you know.
3. Proceed to kick their asses by playing the song on a real guitar.
4. Watch them proceed to be wowed, but continue to have fun playing their GAME.
- kakwakas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why don't you bring your guitar and actually play the song while they play it on Guitar Hero?
- andrewsavage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i agree, i'm fairly good at the guitar and i suck terribly at GH so i can completely understand that the skills for each is different. If anything, GH actually makes you better at learning rythm and you can apply that to a real guitar.
- ClOlD, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I know, but I hear the music, and my first instinct is to play the proper chord, especially since a lot of the popular songs are ones I've tried to learn with my guitar earlier. I have to stop, untwist my fingers, and think about just matching the patterns.
- ClOlD, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0And Disease, there aren't ACTUAL dances you're supposed to do to those DDR songs in real life, so it's easy to just play a pattern matching game. Having to separate yourself from playing how a song is actually played on a guitar, and with using a guitar-shaped controller with these games, can be maddening.
- romainechester, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1DRR = pattern matching dance game.
Guitar Hero = pattern matching ________ game.
Fill in the blank.
Oh yeah and also, the key word here is "game." Like what you said, DDR is a dancing game. It's not a dancing simulator/teach-yourself-to-dance-software. Same goes for Guitar hero. It's just a game.
- romainechester, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1DRR = pattern matching dance game.
- shinyhappydan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I always think how great it would be if you could somehow plug in a real guitar and learn stuff via guitar hero. The interface is great for learning, although it would have to be more complex with a real guitar I guess.
Then can we have trumpet hero please
- Disease, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12God I'm tired of this argument. They're both completely different concepts. Just like DDR is different from actual dancing. Skills needed in Guitar Hero are completely different than real guitar.
- briansalo, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3It seems like a bad idea... Small screen, the speakers aren't too great and I don't think I'd be willing to pull out what would be the controller in public.
- Victoriousecret, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5i'll believe it when i see it
- Wolfbeta, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2DJ Max Portable for the PSP ftw.
- Ardy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10they should use a ukulele instead
- so1omon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1As a lover of all things ukulele, I would buy that in a heartbeat.
On a side note, learning to play the ukulele has helped increase my guitar playing skills tenfold.
- so1omon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1As a lover of all things ukulele, I would buy that in a heartbeat.
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3that would be so badass to play with a full sized guitar hero controller on the DS, I would love to just play that on a bus or in front of a store just to see peoples reactions.
- diggnitarial, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1my reaction= you're a retard
- CLShortFuse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I would do it like this:
Hold the DS upside-down. Have your left hand cover the touch pad. The "bottom" screen shows the notes you have to play. The "top" screen represents the frets. You don't strum, you tap the frets at the correct timing. Also because it's touchscreen, the game can recognize slidings and also bending. That would keep it portable and feel like a guitar.
Of course it'll never work because the touchpad only allows one point of contact at a time. (It's not multi-touch). Of course if they layered a guitar peripheral on top and you played it upside, then that would work.- CDHarrisUSF, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd have the neck of the guitar lock into the GBA slot and go out to one side... then use the stylus to strum.
- CLShortFuse, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2I would do it like this:

- CLShortFuse, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3um... http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/DS_version_of_Guitar_Hero_III_to_feature_a_guitar_controller
the submitter just reposted it- saturdaysinbed, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1does it really matter?
- Ory303, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I think they've lost touch with what 'portable' means.
- Chunkynotsmooth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It's about time they get a les paul controller!
- DreamVsPs2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1OfF topic, will there be a PSP version? Does anyone know
- Niz1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is actually a better idea even though im a DS user, i have to say it does seem to make more sense for this to be on the PSP it has better graphics i know its not really a graphically intensive game but it would just be a lot cleaner with a bigger screen to see it better from a distance, oh well, see how it goes.
- happyface0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The game isn't graphic intensive. It doesn't even need to be 3d.
- TheInimitable, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I love Guitar Hero, but if there is any sort of add-on released for the DS I can't label it as anything except retarded.
- fudged71, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i was tinking of something more along the line of when the GH III controller is like for the wii, where the DS would actually FIT into the guitar. the screen would popout, so you can see what your doing when you look down.
that's the most plausible thing i can think of, and it still isn't practical. looking down would be a strain, and tiresome... and it still isn't really "portable"
jeez... this thing has my mind in a knot- romainechester, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You on crack??
- sk8ordiemofo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Its a console game to be honest, putting it on a ds, especially with the mini guitar controller, is just retarded. Using a stylus would work better, but it still wouldnt be able to match up to the console versions. Stupid idea IMHO.
- RyukShinigami, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0they should make a drum-kit where you use 2 styl uh... *****, what's the plural?
- SeBBBe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Seriously AWESOME idea! I'm so getting this if it's true. Sure, it's impractical and even retarded, but that's the precise reason I want it. Just like using a floppy-based 286 server to serve a web page, it's just so awesome.
- Avian00, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2This is stupid. The idea is incredibly absurd. Do people seriously believe this?
Buried as Lame... suggest you do the same. - doshindude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1they could use this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapman_Stick - fhornplayer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's called a handheld device for a reason. I don't want to buy an expensive guitar when I could get a better experience for the same price on my ps2/wii.
- don1123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0A mini guitar? I'm looking forward to that.
- QuentinMani, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Bach opens a vista to the universe. After experiencing him, people feel there is meaning to life after all.
