DS Outsells all hardware in Japan, Gamecube sells 6x Xbox 360 last week
nintendojo.com — Story shows official sales numbers for all videogame hardware during the week of December 19-25. The Nintendo DS sold nearly 4 times that of the PSP, and everything except for the original Gameboy Advance and original Xbox sold at least three times more than the Xbox 360.

- mntpng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I really doubt Japanese will flock to XBOX 360 when DOA4 comes out. It's going to be $330 (discounted in Japan) plus $60 which is nearly $400. I just think it has to be more than one game for Japanese to plunk down $400 when they have PS3 and Revolution just around the corner. Given that PS3 will most certain to have many more titles that cater to Japanese tastes, I just don't see XBOX 360 making any headway. In retrospect, Microsoft's decision to launch XBOX 360 early without any compelling launch titles did more harm than good.
- ishmael5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6In all honesty, the reason the Japanese don't like the xbox(or the 360) is because there are no games they want to play. The vast majority of the japanese gaming populace like RPGs, shooters(like gradius, raiden, and ikaruga, not fps games), puzzle games, and GOOD fighting games(like guilty gear, tekken, virtua fighter 4, melty blood, and KoF). The reason I would say that not many japanese like DoA is because the fighting engine in DoA is too easily exploited, and combo-lacking.
jsut my 2 cents though - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The Xbox 360 launched in Japan with 6 games - one being Tetris. I think that's all that needs to be said about this abysmal failure of a launch.

Sorry MS, you need to wake up. You know what the hit here is? Brain games. There is one for DS that sells better than hot cakes. It's always in the top ranking.
Plus you need wicket RPGs, and without them any Console is doooooomed in Japan. Yes, Doomed. Just look the latest hot seller. Kingdom of Hearts II. A wicked cross of Disney and Anime thing. I live here for three years and I still don't get it. But that sells more than anything. Until MS executives get this, no X-BOX will sell here, even if they give it away for free.

I hate Disney, and their hypocrisy. Selling children films with half nude teenage girls, and promoting open lifestyles, and abstinence. All the while they are part of the porn industry, owned their own studio.

But the speed limit is still the speed limit, there is only so much a car can legally do at the moment, thus the looking good is all that it really has. . . legally.
Much like the 360, there is nothing out there to exploit its capabilities.
As for the actual article, none of that is really a surprise, although I was kinda shocked to see two new Pokemon games on the list, one for GBA and one for the DS, how very odd.
Oh, and Kingdom Hearts. . . that isn't a shock at all, personally I love the older disney stuff, movie like the Lion King, Alladin, even newer ones like Mulan and Tarzan (which I'm watching right now btw), the game contains both things from titles like that, and an RPG element, thus it appeals to a reasonably broad audience.
Personally, I look forward to KH2 being released here, but seeing as I live in Australia, I have to wait for the translation to hit the States and then the whole PAL conversion thing, which takes ridiculously long amounts of time. - Spencerocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am beginning to wonder how much of an effect the amazing mistwalker games have on xbox 360 sales.. Why should those who don't like a console for various reasons burn in hell, and people who happen to like a different console should also burn in hell?
I don't like the 360 because as I see it, there isn't enough out there to make it worthwhile, give it a little time and sure, it'll be better, but the release titles just aren't that appealing. Also, the whole needing high Definition TV for it to appear as shiny as it should be . . .bah I'm not spending all that money just for games.
As for the Gamecube, what is wrong with it? The fact that it targets "kiddies?" Because the maturity level you're showing with your comments is far below that of the average consumer who buys a Gamecube, and considering the GotY was originally a GCN exclusive game, and was also most definately NOT a kiddy game. . . well, there really are no reasons why people who support the console should burn in hell. - FreyrVanir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wonder what nintendo quarter will end at profit wise. I'd love to know how well PC hardware sells in japan, if PC hardware isnt selling well in japan i'd say its safe to assume they're a buncha cheap lil gamers who dont even want to play the high end stuff.
Japan's stuck in 2d, why in gods name do we still care how things sell over there?? If they're content playing stupid Anime games like Pokemon, why do we who play great games like Counterstrike Source and Battlefield 2 and GTA (and all these new games that are taking millions of dollars to create) care how well things are going in japan if they're completely content playing crap?

Do you like the Metal Gear series...so do many Japanese people. Alot more than you realize; the latest tech is rolled out here and then what passes for the best of the best is rolled out other places.
I think it(the XBOX 360 sales) has to do with, quality of games(sure PS2 launched with a ridge racer game but then you could play most of your old PS titles on it too), lack of installed fan base on the original XBOX (back to that whole can still play old games on new console), portability (I don't own a DS but I jumped right on the PSP train when it rolled out here) MANY, MANY people take the train or bus to work everyday...sure many sleep...but alot play games for what can sometimes be a long ride. You should see my brother in laws house. He has all the consoles made since the NES I think. Even the 3D0 and Saturn. His excuse for not getting a 360.....His wife won't let him. Mine? I am just too cheap....I'll wait till I see one in a recycle shop for 20,000 yen. BTW - I am American I just have just lived in Japan for like the last ten years. To be a success the Xbox 360 does not have to outsell the PS3. I believe it will not. The Xbox just needs to capture 30-35% of the market and it is a win for Microsoft. XBox360 is sitting at 50k at the moment. So it's 1/10 the way there but it it keeps selling less then 6k a week it will take atleast a year to break 500k.
