- mrsneakypat, on 12/02/2007, -2/+76Very cool. I loved when he punched the pick-up.
- defectDS, on 12/02/2007, -7/+12I gasped, then laughed at the plane crash.
- sanman, on 12/02/2007, -3/+231If you replay the footage slowly, you'll see explosions go off down at the base BEFORE the plane hits. Clearly an inside job.
- aaron117, on 12/03/2007, -2/+11LMFAO hahahahaahahahaha.... sorry :( that actualy made me choke...
You made my day sanman!! - kernco, on 12/03/2007, -1/+9Seriously, though, the bottom boxes are some of the first to move. Either the physics engine isn't perfect or there is something fishy about the whole thing.
- mindsnare, on 12/03/2007, -1/+5He's obviously modified the physics for the purpose of the demonstration.
- aaron117, on 12/03/2007, -2/+11LMFAO hahahahaahahahaha.... sorry :( that actualy made me choke...
- sanman, on 12/02/2007, -3/+231If you replay the footage slowly, you'll see explosions go off down at the base BEFORE the plane hits. Clearly an inside job.
- MonkCanatella, on 12/03/2007, -18/+2Yes, Ron Paul would think it is cool too.
/ron paulbot - joegibes, on 12/03/2007, -0/+24Very cool, but he needs to tighten up the graphics a bit.
- a1532b, on 12/03/2007, -0/+14They're going to get to it, but right now they're working on level 3.
- JettaMan, on 12/03/2007, -1/+7I have a question. What is keeping the arms in the air on that big box-man? The boxes that make up his arms should fall right away.
- Bologner, on 12/03/2007, -1/+7The Flying Spaghetti Monster! Have you been touched by His Noodley Appendage?
- logandurand, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2He's probably set the to activate on a certain trigger, rather than when the map loads.
- fas2, on 06/19/2008, -0/+1The crate man was built in the sandbox editor, where you can place any object anywhere, even in the air. It immediately falls if it is involved in some kind of action, e.g. touching. So if you touch one of the crates, it gets propagated to all other crates and the ones hanging in the air start to fall.
- themastersb, on 12/03/2007, -0/+10Maximum strength!
- PRlME, on 12/03/2007, -0/+9fuqin weather people ask for millions of dollars in research money to simulate hurricanes and tornadoes, and this guys doing it on his PC.
- orph3us, on 12/06/2007, -0/+2simulate 500 boxes with mass relative to gravity or the complex interaction of thousands of square miles of weather phenomena with many more variables? Probably a pretty big difference :P
- TheTrueAPlus, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1When he punched the truck, it impacted the leg on the left. However, the leg on the right was the first to "explode".
- Dustmuffins, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2Sorry for comment abuse, but here's the link to the level.

- defectDS, on 12/02/2007, -7/+12I gasped, then laughed at the plane crash.
- Rocketman1882, on 12/02/2007, -2/+195Very cool. Hopefully one day affordable consumer graphics cards and processors can do that without all the screen captures per frame. :)
- banmaster, on 12/02/2007, -51/+3Get a clue!
- zachshmack, on 12/02/2007, -4/+33Ditto.
- MasterRex, on 12/03/2007, -9/+7Not to spoil Crysis's fun, but a mid-grade graphics card could do this in real time via the Source engine in Garry's Mod. This video wasn't really unique other than the method used to synthesize a high framerate in the CryENGINE2.
- Drakoola, on 12/03/2007, -0/+6It's not the graphics card, its the physics. Of course It doesn't take much to render that many boxes I have a 7600 go in my laptop that can do that. I agree that you could probably pull most of this off in Source, just not as easily. Of course going on that thread of logic you could pull almost anything off in source engine with the right hardware seeing that it is open source.
- mindsnare, on 12/03/2007, -1/+10I'm a huge garry's mode fanboy, but there is no way in hell you could simply launch into garry's mod and smash up that many crates, it would simply ***** itself. It couldn't even do half that amount of crates.
- gh0st3000, on 12/03/2007, -1/+3agreed, using nearly a fourth of those crates would make my garry's mod instantly CTD for sure. Garry's mod is great, but it hates a lot of things going on at once.
- superal1394, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1*Source hates alot of things going on at once.
- gh0st3000, on 12/03/2007, -1/+3agreed, using nearly a fourth of those crates would make my garry's mod instantly CTD for sure. Garry's mod is great, but it hates a lot of things going on at once.
- fuckedupworld, on 12/03/2007, -1/+37One day we will look back on physics like this like it's pong. Oh man I can't wait.
- Kitsun, on 12/04/2007, -0/+2Real-time per-atom physics calculations await!

- Kitsun, on 12/04/2007, -0/+2Real-time per-atom physics calculations await!
- orph3us, on 12/06/2007, -0/+28 seconds per frame on his computer. If this is the correct way of doing it and you want 30 frames per second. That's 8 times more powerful of a computer to get 1 frame a second, and 30 times that for 30fps. So 240 times more powerful computer to process it at 30 fps. Of course, I have no idea what that would mean practically.. 240 times faster processor speed? 240 times gpu speed? Is memory an issue, etc... Ya, I don't know what I'm talking about :D
- banmaster, on 12/02/2007, -51/+3Get a clue!
- Bartboy919, on 12/02/2007, -10/+69HOLY *****!
- wtfersk8s, on 12/02/2007, -31/+2Word, thought that was awesome. Found this in upcoming PC Games, also very cool
http://digg.com/pc_games/PICS_Crysis_are_Models_Ge ...- dimatt, on 12/02/2007, -0/+21Nice try.
- impedance101, on 12/02/2007, -1/+25Perfect song to go along with a video like this! I loved how every bit of the video was co-ordinated with the song.
- wtfersk8s, on 12/02/2007, -31/+2Word, thought that was awesome. Found this in upcoming PC Games, also very cool
- Shogi, on 12/02/2007, -115/+15Wow, boxes falling down with lame ass music. That's exciting.
- RonPaulSucks21, on 12/02/2007, -193/+7***** Crysis. This ***** needs to be buried.

- kevinmotel, on 12/02/2007, -15/+5probably excels at life, just fails at digg
- Naryuu, on 12/03/2007, -0/+7i smell a troll... -_-
- Malarie, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2He must be posting on his alt.

- klick37, on 12/03/2007, -2/+27Pretty? That was epic.
- Synyk, on 12/03/2007, -1/+3epic? LOL.
- athenius22, on 12/03/2007, -0/+10Epic? That was legendary.

*leonidas kicks video into an abyss of eternal boredom*
- ChromaVita, on 12/03/2007, -1/+4Legendary? This is madness!
- callmeTroy, on 12/03/2007, -8/+1heh, you stole that quote "Oh, pretty" from ctrlaltdel-online did ya?
- Bologner, on 01/23/2008, -0/+1No.
- klick37, on 12/03/2007, -2/+27Pretty? That was epic.
- MutatedNantuko, on 12/02/2007, -9/+99Incredibly bad ass, and the music actually made it better.
- ArthurArchnix, on 12/02/2007, -59/+6Oh yeah... if you haven't watched boxes flying around to dramatic music, well, you.. um... I'm sorry I forgot what the point of this was? Oh yeah, I'm supposed to buy a computer so I can make boxes fly around to dramatic music. Pretty soon, all the top ten stories will be nothing but boxes flying around to dramatic music. Some Jackass will make a bunch of Ron Paul heads fly around to dramatic music, but we'll bury him and then get back to watching our videos of boxes.
- Cougaboy, on 12/02/2007, -3/+33I logged in just to digg you down
- crushfan, on 12/03/2007, -0/+10I'm going to logout just not to kiss you. We're not ready for this. Farewell.
- ArthurArchnix, on 12/03/2007, -10/+2Digg me down all you want, but currently the number 10 most popular thing that diggers like to do is watch boxes. Flying around. To dramatic music. Somebody edit in the dramatic chipmunk at the end and we'll have a viral sensation on our hands.
- Unit134679, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4Logged in to digg down too
- ArthurArchnix, on 12/03/2007, -8/+1Wow... I had no idea people were so passionate about Boxes. Maybe Ron Paul isn't as amazing as I thought. Maybe diggers are just very easily impressed.
- goldenhearted, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2Yeah because Digg's daily top 10 is littered with box articles.
*eyeroll*
- goldenhearted, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2Yeah because Digg's daily top 10 is littered with box articles.
- Synyk, on 12/03/2007, -6/+1lmao. I agree with Arthur. This vid blows.
- aahamedi, on 12/03/2007, -0/+9Dude you need to go smoke some pot and come back in 10 min and watch this.

- nerdherder, on 12/02/2007, -66/+176Wow anybody else get 9/11 flashbacks with the plane?
- lebsoljah, on 12/02/2007, -54/+6LOL I thought I was alone on that one
- cococooky, on 12/02/2007, -9/+42a lol about 3000 people dying? Think man.
- Clelland, on 12/03/2007, -22/+8Q: What do you call 3000 dead Americans?
A: A good start. - adraft, on 12/03/2007, -5/+13***** you clelland you stupid son of a bitch
- TrainingName, on 12/03/2007, -2/+2I tip my LOLhat to you.
- P3dr4m1, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4Really? I thought it was OVER 9000!
- Clelland, on 12/03/2007, -22/+8Q: What do you call 3000 dead Americans?
- cococooky, on 12/02/2007, -9/+42a lol about 3000 people dying? Think man.
- cyphin6, on 12/02/2007, -50/+2Wtf is wrong with you guys, seriously not funny...
- nerdherder, on 12/02/2007, -5/+56Was I laughing?
- danwallace, on 12/03/2007, -12/+8I was.
- nerdherder, on 12/02/2007, -5/+56Was I laughing?
- arcooke, on 12/02/2007, -6/+69I did too. I don't know why you're getting buried.. it's not like you were trying to make a joke out of it....
- nerdherder, on 12/02/2007, -3/+36I don't either, but eh, what can ya do?
- StevenJV, on 12/02/2007, -20/+5yeah i thought the choice of the physics of a plane hitting a tower of boxes was a bit of bad judgement
- sanman, on 12/02/2007, -0/+13Also, the choice of having it run at 911 fps was unnecessarily inflammatory
- lazlonger, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2i had a similar thought. nothing really wrong with it i suppose, but i wouldn't use it. it was unnecessary and added nothing. as you said, strictly a judgment call.
- cnot3, on 12/03/2007, -2/+44Rudy did.
- doronster195, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1Well done.
- BLiNk0, on 12/03/2007, -5/+4Yeah I thought about that but I mean it's not like we should consider a plane crashing into something then remember the tradegy, it's like we should always remember the people, not the building or accident. But it crashed into the big man's heart, I thought that was sad...
- callmeTroy, on 12/03/2007, -2/+2yea me too. HAHAHAHAHAHAH!
- m4csrgh3yk3v, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4It was obviously a controlled demolition of boxes.
- lebsoljah, on 12/02/2007, -54/+6LOL I thought I was alone on that one
- omgwthlol, on 12/02/2007, -12/+3ZOMGwianw how the flipping ***** ducking did he do hat
- UnlnvlslblE, on 12/02/2007, -2/+7So where is the setting I need to change?
- MutatedNantuko, on 12/02/2007, -1/+12Check the (more) next to the description.
- vertinox, on 12/02/2007, -0/+10It wasn't done in real time but he must have had some patience and lots of hard drive space.
- Useight, on 12/03/2007, -2/+9I think the setting you want to change is your graphics card.
- omgwthlol, on 12/02/2007, -2/+221The video is rendered with capture_frames and isn't real time.
- Derrekito, on 12/03/2007, -0/+22So, are they trying to show what this engine is capable of; but is just lacks hardware support??????
- ianmurrays, on 12/03/2007, -0/+24Yup
- PunkRampant, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5That's truly amazing.
- Derrekito, on 12/03/2007, -0/+22So, are they trying to show what this engine is capable of; but is just lacks hardware support??????
- lebsoljah, on 12/02/2007, -38/+2reminds me of an apple ad
- banmaster, on 12/02/2007, -7/+48Huh? Pretty boxes with nothing of value inside them?
Yeah, I guess you're right.- inobla, on 12/02/2007, -5/+23LOL. Comment dug for speaking the truth.
- omgwthlol, on 12/02/2007, -3/+12wow i bow down to you master
- banmaster, on 12/02/2007, -7/+48Huh? Pretty boxes with nothing of value inside them?
- TwoKill, on 12/02/2007, -6/+24Someone should really try and make a real box man like that for a side by side comparison. Then post it on youtube of course.
- PorcupineTree, on 12/03/2007, -0/+20And then run like hell when they pull a box out of the leg.
- casual7y, on 12/03/2007, -2/+6how do you suggest they send an airplane/ punch a truck through this real box statue?
- LessThanDan, on 12/02/2007, -2/+8That was pretty entertaining.
- jockser, on 12/02/2007, -4/+16This video will make up my mind ?
- donjuan571, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2haha. Nah im going to stick with CPU 1
- gwolf, on 12/02/2007, -11/+8Why oh Why didn't they put PhysX support in Crysis?
- omgwthlol, on 12/02/2007, -17/+3PhysX
- Aroundtown27, on 12/02/2007, -1/+32PhsyX is a waste..... The new Unreal game has it and it sucks.
- oriondr, on 12/02/2007, -3/+23Point of clarification, Physx sucks, new unreal game is awesome.
- Archon810, on 12/03/2007, -6/+3I couldn't disagree more. Any previous UT was better than the current one (for the times they came out).
- oriondr, on 12/02/2007, -3/+23Point of clarification, Physx sucks, new unreal game is awesome.
- banmaster, on 12/02/2007, -1/+14Coz it sucks! You actually get frame rate hits if you use that *****, probably thanks to the PCI bus the cards use which simply can't shift enough data.
- AttackingHobo, on 12/02/2007, -0/+15Because PhysX is good for particles and non essential game play elements, as it renders physics at its clock speed and not not at regular time speed. So if people are playing multi player with physics, the difference in the PhysX cards will not allow the game to synchronize correctly.
- Derrekito, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5what kind of time lag are we even talking about here?
- SpaceParanoids, on 12/02/2007, -2/+88Bad headline. There are no upgrades that will make these physics demos work in realtime.
Read the description on the video. Each shot was "pre-rendered" at an extremely low framerate.- Katana314, on 12/02/2007, -4/+27Bad headline? All it says is mass physics. Nothing about realtime. Either way, it's awesome to make videos of.
- SpaceParanoids, on 12/02/2007, -0/+22Oops. I was actually referring to the description, not the headline.
- ers35, on 12/03/2007, -0/+7I'll quote my previous comment since it applies here as well:
"Real time or not, this video shows what can be accomplished with Crysis and CryEngine2."
- ers35, on 12/03/2007, -0/+7I'll quote my previous comment since it applies here as well:
- SpaceParanoids, on 12/02/2007, -0/+22Oops. I was actually referring to the description, not the headline.
- DEADB33F, on 12/02/2007, -0/+148 Seconds per frame for the first (relatively simple video). Pretty slow.
- directedition, on 12/03/2007, -0/+11The impressive thing is that the computer running the simulation didn't just choke and die.
- Katana314, on 12/02/2007, -4/+27Bad headline? All it says is mass physics. Nothing about realtime. Either way, it's awesome to make videos of.
- capiCrimm, on 12/02/2007, -13/+9now do it with complex polygons.
- maexus, on 12/02/2007, -1/+16This wasn't real time so honestly, it would matter. It would just take longer to pre render.
- zachshmack, on 12/02/2007, -0/+124Now I really want to see a multiplayer Jenga map.
- FDL1, on 12/03/2007, -0/+8I tried that when the HL2 pre-alpha leaked. It didn't work as well as one might expect. I'm guessing it's because the physics go to sleep.
Looks like it would work in Crysis, though.- lime148, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4The new Source iteration (the one the Orange Box games use) fixed the physics so things don't freeze when several objects are stacked. It would be possible now.
- FDL1, on 12/03/2007, -0/+8I tried that when the HL2 pre-alpha leaked. It didn't work as well as one might expect. I'm guessing it's because the physics go to sleep.
- kitaljevich, on 12/02/2007, -4/+52Quantum hardware is going to make gaming pretty spectacular.
- booshack, on 12/02/2007, -15/+4hahahahahahahaa....
- shaun1018, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5Well in just a little over 20 years we have gone from pong to the crazy things we have today. Who knows what is next?
- over90000, on 12/02/2007, -26/+10lol @911
- gernblansted, on 12/02/2007, -13/+4It didn't change my mind. The first time a saw a demo something like this (in real time using a PPU), it was cool. The 2nd time, it was OK. The 50th time, a bunch of boxes moving around looks a lot like, well, just a bunch of boxes moving around.
- rogersj3, on 12/02/2007, -14/+13Wow - can you use the Crysis engine to render fur? Or any user genereated models for that matter? If you can, that would be a very nice physics rendering tool as well as a decent game.
- SayeSayno, on 12/02/2007, -0/+87No, you're not allowed to use the Crysis engine as a Second Life furry sex game. It says so right in the EULA.
- rogersj3, on 12/03/2007, -0/+20lol - pwned. I was thinking more along the lines of Monster's inc. actually...but whatever floats your boat.
- Vorin, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4monsters inc sex?
gross.
- Vorin, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4monsters inc sex?
- rogersj3, on 12/03/2007, -0/+20lol - pwned. I was thinking more along the lines of Monster's inc. actually...but whatever floats your boat.

- sinisterbob, on 12/02/2007, -7/+16Whats the song?
- chrisbarr, on 12/02/2007, -0/+16the description says it's Aberdeen City - Pretty Pet
- a3r0, on 12/02/2007, -2/+21It's not like it's in the video description or anything
- someone173406, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4its in the video description.
Aberdeen City - Pretty Pet - nerdherder, on 12/02/2007, -0/+43I could be wrong. But I think it might be Aberdeen CIty - Pretty Pet. I wasn't sure if you would get that after 3 comments so I decided after 4 you'll remember it 4 times as much.
- danwallace, on 12/03/2007, -0/+8Wait, what song is it?
- noodhoog, on 12/03/2007, -0/+16it's Hot Shot City by David Hasslehoff, and it is a particularly good song.

- cryonix, on 12/02/2007, -0/+11why would watching a rendered video be the deal breaker for the game.. even the guy said the in game frame rate is extremely slow. and the code only causes the physics to run on the same frame rate as the game. allowing him to use something like fraps to capture the slow frame rate and play back at full speed with both game and physics frame rates matching.

- Firehed, on 12/03/2007, -0/+7Valid point, but I'd be very interested to see how the Source engine handled something like this. Aside from the destructable environments, I can't say I've found the physics in Crysis to be anything special. Seeing that the boxes weren't even breaking after falling five hundred feet... I suppose this shows scalability, but I thought some of the reactions looked quite unrealistic (the pickup and the plane hitting the wall of boxes, in particular).
- danwallace, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3Kinda reminded me Episode 2 actually.... what the Advisor does to the roof of the barn after it hatches and flies away.

- cryonix, on 12/02/2007, -0/+5You have a valid point. Im not saying its not amazing. my mind was blown till i read the info. i cant wait till this quality becomes standard.
- bratterscain, on 12/03/2007, -1/+1Would be better if they accounted for the weight of multiple boxes. In RL, each crate above another would add more weight and the lower ones would get crushed if enough were added. I guess then you'd have to account for more particles colliding once crushed so maybe they did it to save resources.

- Ramble, on 12/02/2007, -18/+2It looks very nice and all but as far as i know, wooden boxes don't spontaneously generate a tornado in real life. Therefore it's not physics, it's just some clever maths tricks.
- XxIronhidexX, on 12/02/2007, -0/+32I would buy this game just to play with the boxes if it ran like that.

- teamparadox, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2ok it took me a few reads to decipher the nonsense of your post...
Yes the graphics are horrible when run under DX9, in fact they are really bad and it runs really bad for how it looks. The game was gimped for DX9 and only runs well on DX10 no matter what the settings.
However in DX10 it looks amazing. The gameplay isnt anything groundbreaking but it is fun and thats all that really matters.- valkyries, on 12/03/2007, -3/+2even with a higher end pc i didnt even see a big difference between dx9/10
- valkyries, on 12/03/2007, -1/+1im running at 1920x1200 on high(winXP) to veryhigh(vista64bit)

- shaun1018, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1I think what this digger means is that gameplay is more important not better than the graphics, but thats my interpretation.
- bagboyrebel, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1I haven't had any problem with the gameplay, and I have a 6600gt graphics card. So I really don't know what you're complaining about.

- wolfofwar, on 12/02/2007, -13/+8meh.
Fancy physics doesn't convince me to pay 800-1000 dollars to upgrade my machine.
I'd rather play a game with decent graphics, but amazing gameplay concepts and a excellent story then a game thats essentially just some graphics porn.- Stevethegreat, on 12/02/2007, -1/+12Pity, cause a (soon to be) $200 8800GT would do it (play Crysis on high setting, that is). There is a reason why many PC gamers think of console-gamers as tools, they make up their ignorance with big statements that -most of the times- does not hold a candle to the truth. I have to tell you sth that may shock you, consoles nowadays are practically being made by the same kind of hardware (think X360) as PCs, what you pay is what you get. You pay $300 X360 you get an equivalent $300 PC, minus its PC functions. You pay twice as much and you play Crysis, or rather get support for its engine (if you don't like the game anyway).
- wolfofwar, on 12/03/2007, -1/+5right, well, you see heres my problem, My PC is also HORRIBLY outdated. So not only do I have to buy a preverbial assload of ram, but also need a better CPU, and I believe a new OS. (unless crysis works on XP, I'm not sure.)
Either way, it all adds up to be way more expensive to play one game, thats just a fancy looking generic shooter with graphics porn.- Stevethegreat, on 12/03/2007, -3/+3If you have a PCI-Express port in your mobo, then -most possibly- you won't need either of these, just the card. In fact modern games run 95% from the GX card, thus it is the only subsystem you should care about if you game. Also Crysis actually runs BETTER on XP (complete with its DX10 effects, if you know where to look). Windows XP is a lot more able gaming platform than Vista, you'll do well NOT to upgrade to Vista, not the other way around. So -yeah- really, you only need this $200 card and you'll play every game in existence (both PC and Roms of older consoles if you like), including Crysis.
- wolfofwar, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1right, well lets see what I actually need.
a new CPU. 2.8 Ghz - $120.00 (from what I've seen.)
Graphics Card - $200.00
1 gb ram - $120.00
So thats $440.00 for me to RUN the game, not even to gave it looking good. just to run it.
And thats for one game, thats nothing by graphics porn.
I'm sorry, I'll stick with the games on my 360 and wii. Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil 5, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, etc.
- wolfofwar, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1right, well lets see what I actually need.

- Stevethegreat, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2Metacritics is your friend. You'll see there that PC is steadily the best video game console, no need to think that PC does not have great gameplay titles. Darwinia still excites everyone that I show it to -even now- and to think that it is 40MB title that runs on 7 year old hardware, makes it even more impressive (oh and it is an early 2006 title, in case you think it is an old one).

that being said, i use crysis for a personal bit of benchmarking. it IS the most demanding game out now. you have something that can run it?
well, then you have something that will work for a little while...
