- TheBlackNinja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Already made fun of.
http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comics/20070209.jpg - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Damn, so how did the developers of Crackdown get involved in this money stream? Its the next best thing to being a pack-in!
- Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14No oldtimegamer, they will be renting Crackdown. I played the demo of Crackdown and it was pretty entertaining. Almost enough to make me want to pick up a 360. For now I'll stick with the modded original xbox and my wii.
- smoothoperatah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12probably has something to do with the fact that microsoft studios is the publisher.
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Punctuation. Use it.
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13You're a dumbass. Thank God I won't be seeing you in the beta.
- jasontroy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Online game rental sites will be the hole in the system with this one. I know at Gamefly.com, you can rent a game for as long as you like if you're paying the monthly fee so there's nothing to keep someone from just renting Crackdown for 2 months. Compare $30 to $60.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9But that means once the Halo 3 beta will start they'll still have to hold on to the game. So they'll have Crackdown...but what if the beta goes on for 3 months? They'll basically hold on to their "rental" for 5 months? You might as well just buy the game.
I actually like this method. Hopefully it will keep all the little "Timmy's" out of the beta. A "mature" online Halo is what I've been hoping for since the first Halo came out. - smoothoperatah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7crackdown's actually a pretty cool game. so its definitely worth it. i thought this was gonna be some crap ass game and this gimmick was the only way they were going to be able to sell it, but i played the demo, and i liked. its definitely not rainbow six or GoW, but its fun nonetheless.
- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Wait, I thought you had to buy the halo 3 beta, and it came with a free copy of Crackdown?
- ragboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This would be a bummer, if crackdown was a crappy game. I have playing with the demo, and this is one of the first games I will buy the day it releases. The demo is a blast, and the videos and interview on IGN make me feel like this is going to be a killer game.
- u16085, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4you have to admit, thats brilliant. leave it to Microsoft to cover the loop holes...
- oldtimegamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, since I have been a part of 2o2p I havent really had to deal with the Timmys. Still though, the idea of packing a well known game with a new type of game is a great idea. Maybe it can become a new way to sell more innovative games to gamers who normally wouldn't take a chance.
- whiledo, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3@Nobi-Wan
I'm all for anything that will keep kids out of the online FPSes. Why do they have to so freaking good? And they're always so MEAN about it. Stop taunting me you hooligans!!! - sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You got it backwards! The demo for Crackdown is entirely too much fun, especially when you play it co-op. Nothing better than popping your friend in the head with a grenade and watch him fly three stories high after it detonates.
- whisperedlie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4it would suck if crackdown gets buried in all the halo 3 beta hype. it's a great game; i don't give a rats ass about the beta key.
- stev31h, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The Article is confusing, but this is how i perceived it:
It is only special-marked versions of Crackdown, so presumably companies like Blockbuster, Gamefly, and other rental companies will not be getting the special-marked versions; therefore, you can not just simply rent Crackdown to play the beta. - smoothoperatah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the other two ways are officially closed. this is the last beta entry path.
- ltuspud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does this mean the other ways into the Beta will have to get the game as well? I got into the Beta via halo3.com and I just don't want to have to deal with buying a game.
- zdiddy85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why doesn't everyone just buy crackdown anyways? From what I've played (demo) it is a very promising game. Not only would you be getting a good title to enjoy, but a "crack" at one of the most anticipated games of the year(s).
And why go blame Microsoft? There's always gotta be bad guy. - Aliarse, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5What The Hell Is Crackdown?
And While Im Asking Questions, What The Hell Is Halo 3? - SgtAndrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought they would give you a code that links to your gamertag.
so that people wouldn't just rent it they would have to buy.
it but who knows. - rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1somebody will crack, crackdown of it's copy protection and play h3 demo as long as he wants if i know the halo 2 modders community well enough.
- hokeywebb22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No you don't have to buy it if you already got in. This is the only way in for those who didn't get a spot in the beta.
- combustion8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah the game is worth getting anyway, the beta is just a bonus.... a nice bonus at that.
- deathdefyer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6don't see whats wrong with this... its not like you have to buy crackdown in order to buy the final release of halo3, so wtf? QQ.
- jeet404, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You may as well be asking what the hell is Xbox? Cause Halo really made Xbox famous.
- NeoRicen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sounds fair to me.
- roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Crackdown is actually a pretty good game, judging from the demo. The only problem with the demo was you rank up too quick, but thats something they changed for the demo...leveling up will be much slower in the final version. Alot of people think that because they are piggy backing on the crackdown game that it must suck, but its a decent game. I like it better than GTA because it doesnt play out like a bad rap song...
- ajm1240, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Of course you need the Crackdown disc to play the Halo beta. Most could have guessed that's the way it would be. It would be a big deal if it WAS NOT like that. This is not particularly newsworthy IMO.
- BillDoE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mad because you are a cheap ass...lol I agree I though it seemed like shady deal at first, but the Crackdown demo was pretty fun so I pre-ordered the full game anyways.
- shadyrudy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If it wasn't for the Crackdown demo, I wouldn't have played it at all. Now I want the full version of Crackdown, Halo 3 or not!
- fLUx1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is this even a headline....
....its not like anyone will wanna play any other disc game when the Halo 3 beta is released!!!!! oh yeh baby!!! ^_^ - kazumaSHELL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There are two different versions of Crackdown being released. One will have the Halo 3 beta, one will not. I am assuming that copies that are for rental will not have the Halo 3 stuff in it.
- ThinkFr33ly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Thankfully, Crackdown is *awesome*... at least judging by the demo.
I'm personally looking forward more to Crackdown than I am to Halo 3. Feb 20th can't come fast enough. - azizrulez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i dont know why people only talking about HALO 3 BETA
Crackdown in itself is a very promising game and looks like its a another good game from MS
please give credit where its deserved - sldSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@jasontroy: It said the demo will be released within a certain time window. You'd have to know when to rent it.
It's too bad it'll only be there for a limited time... I was planning on Crackdown for good Single/Co-op play and Halo 3 for good competitive multiplayer. If it's only available for a limited time, the games isn't as valuable to me. - Physhi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I can't believe that this pile of festering crap actually made newly popular.
- fujiman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bravo for using lagniappe in a sentence! Digg up :)
- jeet404, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I gotta say you didn't use M$ like every other l33t H4x00r! But you used the even cooler Micro$oft. Where did this stupid trend come from anyway?
- Bahimiron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Man, the Crackdown demo is an absolute blast anyway.
I'll be getting it for it.
Getting the Halo 3 beta is just lagniappe. - fujiman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There may be some nasty surprises for people logging into live with a cracked game. Just saying.
- SuperNintendo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It seems you guys have missed the first lottery which gave out an undisclosed amount of "keys" to play in the beta, and also the second lottery which allowed the first 13,333 players which played at least 3 hours of Halo 2 on XBLive from Feb 1st - 3rd and signed up on a first come first serve basis on Feb 5th. The Crackdown "key" is the third and (as far published) final way to get into it. From what I've heard, It will be included in specially marked boxes of the first released batch of the game.
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Thank god I got into the first round of Halo 3 beta.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2He should have made a 13 year old kid trying to buy the game. God those little kids piss me off when I'm just trying to play a game.
- sparkleton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Assuming you could rent the game and play Halo 3 beta, there are only going to be so many copies of Crackdown to rent. If a majority of the people renting Crackdown hold it for 2 to 3 months it will become pretty hard to find.
- ghazzter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0what a great way to make ppl buy some ***** game buy promoting a much more successful game beta if you buy it.
- chubbybubba, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Last I heard there were Other ways to get into the Halo Beta without paying... buying Crackdown is just the easy way... stop the whining... Ya gotta pay to play, that's how it goes...
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Duh.
