Counter-Strike, WoW players compete for $500,000 in October
sk-gaming.com — Counter-Strike, World of WarCraft, Quake 3, StarCraft and WarCraft 3 players will compete for over $500,000 in cash in the month of October alone, with several tournaments spread across the globe. Competitors from dozens of countries will compete in Los Angeles, Montreal, Dallas and Dubai and at this year's BlizzCon.

- 1legend, on 10/04/2008, -0/+1Many players who play nowadays either have a lot of experience or hack, especially when it comes to scrims (#findscrim in IRC). I still play pretty frequently and do scrims but am not super serious about competition. To play really well takes too much energy out of me than it's worth. I'm on a CAL-O team just for fun. CEVO is where the real competition is at though (since you can make $$ from CEVO).

- Maverick0420, on 10/04/2008, -0/+1i hope the next counterstrike has limits on weapons sucks that the game just becomes a contest of who can use the AWP better. Theres no real strategy in CS. Its just who can get to buy the awp the fastest and dominate with it.
- 1legend, on 10/04/2008, -0/+1Not so. In scrims there are a lot of strategies you can use. If your team buys smoke grenades you can effectively stop awpers as well. In leagues it is illegal to 16-bit as to prevent people from seeing through smokes. There are many situations where using mp5s is best (whole team rushing one area). Also effective use of grenades (nade stacking) is important. A few well-placed smoke grenades and a competent team using AK's or colts can easily stop an awper or two.
Sure most of the weapons suck, but the mp5, ak/colt, clarion/galil (cheaper than ak/colt), awp, deagle/usp/glock all have their places.
