- moore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+48If he was reading a newspaper would anyone care?
- saikhan, on 10/12/2007, -11/+51Not only that but he's playing GTA: Liberty City Stories.
- dgblackout, on 10/12/2007, -13/+50people still play those?
- falcon1, on 10/12/2007, -13/+48EDIT: Sorry...get rid of this post...
- skywake, on 10/12/2007, -15/+50they have games on the PSP?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+42I'm confused. Should I do the right thing and rip on Sony, or should I be impressed that their system is that engrosing?
- exilio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Heh. Cops are gamers too. Even they need down time, and yes, that means even when they are on duty. Sometimes you are just waiting to get a call or you've had a long day and you don't want to get caught up in something that is going to keep you from going home on-time.
- gaijintendo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21@saikhan Are you just guessing or seeing what you want to see? because he is clearly playing Indecipherable: Blurry Cameraphone Photo (the 'footie game')
- csisop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I assume the guy who turned these cops in never, ever, EVER slacks off at work?
- quiks48, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19@otomo
I'm pretty sure he meant when he clicked on this link he expected it to be a new york cop. but what do i know... - Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15True, PSP games sucked first year, this past year it was better. Many crappy games but there were many good games as well. Games like Killzone, Daxter, Lumines 2, MGS: PO, LocoRoco, etc. 07 DOES have awesome lineup and I can't wait for them to come out. Saying that the DS has had great games for years is a moot point if you just bought a PSP this year (as I did).
I mean, DS is great and all, but only game I truly want to play there is Mario and Mario Kart...Rest are fun but not just for me. Plus, since I didn't speak English at the time the PS1 came out, I'm catching up on my PSP playing the PS1 RPGs that I missed (half way thru FF7 :D). Yeah, PS1 games are old games, but still graphics are on-par w/ the DS. Again, graphics are not everything, just had to say it ;).
PSP developers are finally getting on the ball here and are releasing some great stuff. Late? Sure, but always welcome. Add a little of 3.03 OE-C from DAX and well...what can I say? :)
@skywake: You can't pick up crappy games form one side and compare to some of the best on the other...but case in point, ds has great games, good for it. PSP is catching up :P - 1iProd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13You're just jealous your mother wouldn't buy you a DS :P
- Mufflegrump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@Kypt
I'm sorry...but did you just say that Sim City isn't really a game? I'm honestly baffled here. ...Unless you meant it spawned an entire genre, which I guess is possible, I did just wake up after all. :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Looks like Sony's paparazzi marketing crew is doing their job.
"OK guyz here's the new funky fresh plan -- gather photographic evidence of people playing the PSP! No one will believe that it would be voluntarily played with otherwise!" - ksponge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Personally, I feel that the person that took the photo and gave it to the department or whoever is an *****. I've done plenty of guard duty, and there is a whole ***** load of down time. I'm no fan of police of any kind, due to a few issues that I disagree with, but what the ***** guy? Why get someone in some ***** when they are causing no harm to you or those around you? People always feel the need to impose themselves in some way on others. That's my opinion, take it or leave, whatever.
- jbignell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Have you ever had to sit for 12 hours and watch a wall? Paramedics, Police, and other public service professional do all the time. What will be next banning an AM/FM radio?
- Marijuana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9He obviously wasn't considering the word used in the description, "footie."
- voteforblank, on 10/12/2007, -12/+18I figured that this was going to be a NYC Cop!
- Ryuuzaki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7To stop a few minutes and relax by playing with a PSP... I don't see it as a problem or as something worthy of being treated as news.
- niznik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Perhaps the parents of the child who died under the other wall that collapsed when the police were supposed to be making sure this one would not *kill* anyone?
- magicmarc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Whoa Chingford? Quite near Walthamstow here in London, near the famous dog racing place.
Quite a lot of people on the street there, I was mugged there. Police just playing PSP like that eh? - junaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Someone call JT, we just found out how police violence is born!
- Gizim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Real question is... who gives a *****?
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've got both and guess what? I'm having fun with both!
I've got MGS:PO, GTA, and a ton of homebrew on one system and New Super Mario, FF3 (my first Final Fantasy) and Hotel Dusk on the other. Seriously, are some of you guys PAID to spout ***** about other systems? Grow up, play games, and have fun. Who cares what system you choose to buy? - jotux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I bury you and your retarded spam.
- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That guy who got mugged a few comments up above does.
- seandaly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wow, look how the Digg community has changed in the past 18 months.
I remember when the PSP was nearing launch, launched, and the 3 months after launch, and I remember a lot of praise and (not even fanboyism) coming from many on Digg.
So what, now we have to bury all of the pro-PSP comments down because it's trendy? Because the PS3 didn't live up? Because Nintendo released a console that didn't suck (the first since N64 IMO)?
Wafflers! All of you! :) (let it be known that I don't own a PS3, PSP, Wii or DS) - JimDinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nice Spam, welcome to the block button.
- Carramrod72, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4niznik, do you buy that?? You think that the guy was playing a video game while people were in danger? Whats worse, the bleeding heart caption to the pic (Basically: Cop plays PSP while a child is crushed to death), or the fact that people buy that *****?
Is he supposed to be holding the wall up? Perhaps out of frame was other officers, maybe some caution tape or a few barriers?? Perhaps the street was closed and he was passing time while repairs were made by people trained to do so. The police don't clean up/fix broken walls just as fireman don't pick up trash on trash day and school teachers don't drive taxi cabs. They close roads and wait for whomever to fix whatever has broken, resulting in alot of down time.. Obviously, the pic and explanation say it all. There was a collapsed wall, a real dangerous situation and, Oh, those silly inept cops only sent one guy, and hes playing PSP...Something tells me the casualties were BEFORE the police were involved and some poor sucker of a police officer got the pleasure of sitting there for 12 hours while 4000 idiots came up and asked: "Hey, whats going on? Did that wall fall down?" 4000 times, distracting him anyway.... Or perhaps "but I live right there and I need to get through!!" "What, its not safe? But, I LIVE RIGHT THERE AND I'M MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVERYONE ELSE!!" .. It makes it better for the people to assume that a cop failed to do his job and some poor unsuspecting child wandered into an area where there was danger and....blah blah blah... If we want to be ridiculous, why was there a child out in a wind storm? Why was this child near a wall that may collapse? Where were the child's parents? They had to have known that the wall was going to collapse, the cops did. Why did they not shield the child with their bodies? Who built said wall? Where were they while their wall failed? Are they responsible? I bet that poor kid was killed just seconds after that photo was snapped. Sounds pretty stupid, right? Also, just because there is an accident or small disaster does not mean every uniformed cop in creation is involved or responsible.
Gotta blame someone though...
Can anyone tell me another job where a vast majority of people who take that job have good intentions only to be surrounded by public ignorance of things like "facts" and " actual events." We now take a three sentence blurb on some website as truth and form opinions about the subject based only on that?? Where else do we see one person doing something or acting a certain way and project it on every other person that does that job. All the good cops just sit there and eat your ***** sandwich just before they do what you are afraid to do or needed their help with since you couldn't handle it yourself...
Comments like that contribute to the downfall of common sense in our society. - NinjasR2Cool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good points but holy crap thats a giant wall of text. Break it up a little.

Thanks. - skywake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@Kypt
actually... I pulled all of the games I mentioned from "games to look for in 2007" lists
I mentioned "Capcom Puzzle World" because PSP fanboys are always attacking the DS for "kiddie games"
I mentioned "Burnout" because they always attack the DS for remakes....
want the top 5 for 2007? (in no order)
PSP
- Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics
- Burnout: Dominator
- Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2
- Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
- Rainbow Six: Vegas
DS
- Pokemon Pearl/Diamond
- The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
- Diddy Kong Racing DS
- SimCity DS
- Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings
now to me... that looks a bit DS slanted..... - Mufflegrump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So you're saying that the Sim games aren't games because they're not popular? Even if that were true, I'm not entirely sure that's how you decide what category something is. The second Zelda sucked compared to the first, does that make it not a game? And if so, what is it instead? My vote...houseplant!
- freakystyley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I got two friends who are constables in suburban Montreal who create D&D characters during slow graveyard shifts. They would literally just park their car (when partnered up) in the middle of the night, pull out a buncha blank character sheets and the player's handbook and they would just freakin' make new characters. In fact, we started playing D&D after a 5-year break because of these two clowns :P.
Not only is this utterly hilarious, but if spotted, their mild activity easily be interpreted as work. I don't know, it's some kinda rule or something -- it's not considered fun if you're reading or writing. I reckon that's how I got away with reading Stephen King when I was an altar boy serving mass :P. - MisterSam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wtf, I have to register for a psp site to read this story?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This isn't a shocker really. When I was living in DC about a year ago, there was a police officer who stationed inside the CVS down the street from me. EVERY night, he was standing or sitting by the front door playing his PSP, big deal...
- stevenstclair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://duggmirror.com/gaming_news/Cop_on_duty_gets_caught_playing_PSP/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1footie = uk slang for football or as you guys in the usa call it soccer :-)
- steponsnyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*cough cough* Viral advertising*cough cough*
- Dolphtesla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude I would do that too if my boss was like "Guard this wall and make sure it doesn't fall!" Being a cop would be boring if nothing was going on. I usually hate these guy's abuse of power but in this instance it's just a gamer thats bored. Cut em some slack.
- ohcoaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how is it different than all of us at work and surfing on digg?
- slyzxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what a tard who would report that like jesus they were supposed to be watching a wall COME ON! like wtf
- iFindout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's child play compared to a cop that me and a friend of mine rolled up on one night at a traffic light in Sunrise, FL after leaving a brew house. We caught him driving with one hand and playing Solitare with the other on his patrol car computer. After the traffic light turned green he jetted off and we stayed there laughing hysterical til the traffic light turned red. Only in FL.
- Daveoh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, being a BUILDER, a coincidence that the police are guarding a WALL in danger of COLLAPSING?
- SirBryce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So video games really ARE the reason for more crimes....
- niznik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Carramrod72, you make some very good points, and I am not sure if I do buy that story. Of course we can't know how the situation really is, we only have a snapshot, a slanted opinion, no bigger picture and no other facts or information to go on. Maybe he was on his break and his colleagues were on duty, maybe that was not his assignment, maybe this was not even at the scene... who knows? But perhaps what is worse is when someone says "Who Cares?". I do. It is not about blame., it is about trying to ensure that the right things happen.
- r3m1x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and so do Double Decker Bus drivers who game on their PSPs whenever they hit a red light.
- ZombyWoof78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All I can say this reminds of on the gages on Reno 911 where the FBI profiler is playing his Gameboy SP instead doing his job.
