- coldphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15And once again, the Wii will not play normal DVD movies.
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14From what I understand, Fils-Aime said that you can connect USB thumb drives, as well as external USB HDDs to the Wii's USB ports.
Need to get one now . . . . - gharding, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Fry's, Buy.com, CircuitCity, OfficeMax. Amazingly enough, these stores offer what people call "sales" where things are available cheaper than usual for a limited amount of time. Browse around for coupon codes, mail-in rebates, instant rebates, and fun stuff like that and it's not hard to get this stuff for cheap or even free occasionally.
- Ashkc88, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12I'm glad I bought a 2GB SD card, hopefully the Wii allows users to use USB Hard-Drives as well (I wouldn't count on it though).
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8You can get SD cards for like free-$20. And they're rewritable.
- ssj27gohan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Now all I need is...
Oh yeah, a Wii. Only 3 days and some odd hours! - fldash, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Entirely possible.
- Nodren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5just an fyi, on a amd athlon 64 3000(single core), 1gig ram took 10 minutes normal priority, 5 minutes at above normal, but computer completely locked up. and for a 350meg 1 hour xvid show, it became a 1gig avi, with noticeably lower quality, at least when viewed through the computer, no telling how it'll look viewed through a tv at a considerably smaller resolution
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, it plays that buddy.
- dylanwalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Its too bad it doesn't support divx format... I guess I'll just have to use the phillips dvp5960 to play my divx off of usb:
http://www.amazon.com/Philips-DVP5960-Player-Upscaling-direct/dp/B000G18DR0/sr=8-2/qid=1163647064/ref=pd_bbs_2/104-7384424-4394369?ie=UTF8&s=electronics
Hey just a thought, but will the wii support playing video over a home network? - OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Ok, this scores points in the "coolness" factor but is quite impractical. A 700mb movie will take up more than 2gb of space when converted. Not only do you have to convert the whole thing (which will take many hours) but then transfer it on an expensive sd card (slow). And there's also quality loss when converting.
Do yourselves a favor and buy a divx dvd player. Burn your movies quickly on a cheap cd and watch it conveniently. - keviniskool, on 10/12/2007, -12/+17They need a Mac OS X version to please me.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7...This is free. Nero costs money, and DVD's aren't cheap.
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Go get ffmpegx, it works perfectly fine, and it'll probably run a lot faster than this would. The Wii just uses QuickTime up to a specific resolution size. (I think it's like 840 X 4## ?) Anyway, that should work just fine.
Damn, double post, weird. - dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5if it supports external usb hdds, use your ipod
- MrObjectional, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So Quicktime Pro could do this too, right? Or anything converted to an uncompressed AVI format too? That's what I heard.
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"You can get SD cards for like free-$20. And they're rewritable."
Try $15.99 for a 1gig @ MicroCenter:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=242479
I have 8 of them and they are GREAT!
* And no sales, no specials,no rebates, and no waiting for "Black Friday". Just walk to the any register and tell them how many you want! - TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I agree, thats rediculous....oh well...
- bonexaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Meritline (http://slickdeals.net/?pno=8968&lno=1&afsrc=1) has the Kingston 1GB Micro SD Card for $10 w/ free shipping.
It's MicroSD, but includes a MicroSD to SD adapter - jholdaway, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2he probably has a mac.. they can go anywhere on the web without virus/ad-ware/spy-ware..
- billvasser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Wow. Wii encoding doesn't compare with DivX at all! Converting a Divx file to MJPEG expands the file to nearly 3 times its original size! I have a faint hope that maybe some Wii firmware update will enable more codecs... but I doubt I'll see it happen.
- gharding, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Ffmpegx probably can do it.
- jholdaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@OpCzar.. Do you really think all the techno geeks (like me) trying to get their wii to play movies doesn't hava a DVD player already connected to their tv? (and computer, and car, and microwave.. jk)
Anyway, i know it sucks.. i hope they have a movie/tv channel soon.. could even make a deal with iTunes. being able to play any file or buy them would be awesome. - masonba2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I've not yet seen a video file that VLC can't play yet." ever heard of real media?
- devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Yeah, ffmpegx is great. But what's the resolution/bitrate? I didn't see it on the page.
- uchiha9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2OMG
People Im not even joking
Do NOT go to freeserials.com
this site has HORRIBLE spyware, adware and viruses!
I had to format my computer because of this Please dont go to it it'll save you SO much trouble - OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Ok, where do you get your 15$ sd cards from?
- hcl40u, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Same site also has PS3 Video 9.
http://www.redkawa.com/videoconverters/ps3video9/ - seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Oh dear god they had better come out with a firmware update to enable USB Hard Drives. I just bought one a while ago in the hope to be able to do just this.
Would it honestly be that hard to enable this feature? - sulthernao, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2For black friday at Cicuit City from 5-11 there will be a SD card for 2.99, although I'm not sure if it is 1GB or 2GB.
- MrObjectional, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2As much as the PS3 has against it, I've not yet seen a video file that VLC can't play yet. Of course that was without DRM, which any Sony download is bound to have...
- daroots, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3nice simple convert to mjpeg.......digg...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1No need for the "someodd"...
http://www.wiiloaded.com/wiinews-2185 - gharding, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I got a 1gb SD card for $5. If you shop, I imagine you can get a 2gb card for $10 or $15.
- billvasser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@hcl40u:
That's a good idea. Thanks for bringing it up. - speaker219, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hmm... seems strangely familiar to "PSP Video _9_"
What's so great about "9?"
More useful would be an actual version number, not 9. - Gohan5052, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I didn't even know that the Wii could play videos.
- fldash, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I wouldn't doubt that. If they don't someone will simply hack the OS or firmware. Last I heard the Wii was running some form of Linux.
- hcl40u, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1You can change the default profile to a lower bitrate.
- moultie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1usb thumb drives (flash drives, hard drives, whatever) do NOT work on the Wii...i tried on sunday, and was very dissapointed
i reccomend using quick time pro to export the motion jpeg files, as i found the quality to be much better (if you can't afford it just go to freeserials.com) - OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Sure, if you're in the mood of converting very short clips. Otherwise, 2 GB sd's aren't free to 20$
- OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2The PS3 can theoretically play ANY movie format. You can after all, install another linux distribution on it and have a vast choice of movie playing software.
- coldphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Yes, just not the normal DVD movies.
- shyguyboi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0what program do u use to brun it to the dvd r or cd r
