- Yelpy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Xbox 360 Version: Overall gfx are lack-luster, Laggy online, Cant creat ur own game, cant invite friends, cant change any settings, cant controll who is hosting, cant stick with same players after game on map has ended, only 8 players on live, can't lean left & right, the lag when u finally do get to play makes it unplayable, costs 70 to 75euro here in Ireland.
PC Version: Beautiful gfx, amazing single player game, very polished, online multiplayer is a dream as was with COD1, can easily join a game, rarely lags, can change and customise all options, updated regulary via patches, last patch also got an extra map for free, you CAN lean left & right, you CAN keep playing with same players map after map, 32+ players online, 40 euro in here Ireland!
Get it on PC folks. I have both but the 360 version will be goin back fo sure! - doodirock2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I love how digg comments degrade into "Console FPS sucks." Wasn't this about Activision?
- nate8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the problem is that COD 2 is a great online game WHEN IT WORKS. it's fast paced and fun, but the lag and lack of a "party" (which most every game can do now) makes it really hard to grab a friend and have fun. having a friend in the game involves hoping that friend hops on the game before it's full since you can't bring a friend from game to game. it's unbelievable that they didn't see these problems when game testing especially knowing how big the online aspect is on the 360.
- CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good, maybe Infinity Ward will learn from this!
They screwed over the PC crowd, which is all of their loyal fans from CoD1 that put them on the map in the first place with their first title, by dumbing down the game for the 360. And after their fans followed them all the way to the release of cod2, providing nearly all of their profits, starting a thriving modding community, they release CoD2 for PC with this console crap and no SDK. Why would they betray their real customers in favor of this new console, a sequel to a console on which CoD barely sold? That's like a stab in the back, and they rushed it so it came out like crap on the 360. Luckily for them, the PC version is an awesome game as it is. If they'd release some patches for the PC crowd, I'd take it all back. - ministewy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I can't understand WHY you'd want to play an FPS with a console in the first place. Oh. . you bought one, now you're stuck with it. . .never mind :-/
I HATE the feel of a controller!
Controllers have that crap X, Y restriction feel. A mouse feels fluid and free."
---> Hence the Nintendo Revolution - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"once again, microsoft ***** up..."
everyone is so quick to blame microsoft for everything, it was the developer who did not take the time for the xbox live play.
There are so many crappy games on the ps2 and no one complains about Sony they complain about the developers. so why is m$ the fault for all there games - swoosh_bnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was playing this game today, I'm playing the game and all of a sudden I finish the mission, I'm happy. So I press next mission and I'm back at basic training. I quickly exit the game and go to mission select and I have lost all my progress except the last mission I had done!!!!!!!!! This is the most retarded thing that has ever happened to me ever. I was so close to finishing it and on hardened too. I never ever wanted to go back through those super hard missions that taunted me for hours as I dared to finish them. I am still in a fit of rage and will give activision a piece of my mind in an e-mail they should soon receive!
- jmgarrison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah the no lobby thing is really pissing me off. There is no friggin reason not to have one. The great thing about live is playing with your friends. I might try getting some more achievements done and then return it.
- larrabee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I literally just got done playing 5 minutes ago and had no lag problems i have played a total of 15 or so matches with only one having lag and i just left. I doubt anything is going to get done but if something or someone convinces Activision to do an update it would be a nice win for the live community:
XBOX Live Tag: Larrabee123
Let me know if u wana get a DIGG.COM users game going!! - Dave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been playing this game for a couple days now. Honestly, if you can get into a good game, it's the most fun multi-player game on the system. The sad part is just how lacking in features the game is. Why on earth can I play split-screen on one system, but not on live, or even system link? It would also be nice to be able to play with friends without so much hastle. Sure it's a launch title, but it sold well enough for Activision to spend some money on appeasing it's customers.
It's all very sad. I don't know if I'll be buying Call of Duty 3, even if they get their act together by then. - MasterRuthless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As I posted on the forum that this points to instead of complaining to a publisher, in this case Activition, about coding and what you want added or heck for that matter thinking that a publisher even has a clue as to how the game was made why not try complaing to the actual developer, Inifity Ward http://site.iwnation.com/.
Complaining to a game publisher is like demanding changes in the Windows operating system of a computer manufacturer who only installs Window on their machines they sell. - jefferson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i like my 360 i just hate every single game i have played on it excluding need for speed most wanted which is amazing, king kong sucks! perfect dark zero sucks! cod2 would not suck if the online hadnt sucked but it does so it does!
how hard is it to just give people what they want, ie let me just jump into a game thats already going put up hour long deathmatches!!!!
all we want it to ***** other people its amazing how easily companies f*(&^ that up - bbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I have this game and love it. Graphics are better than the PC version. "
Xbox Call of Duty 2 looks like crap compared to the PC version. I thought Xbox was supposed to have a chip dedicated to anti-aliasing? Why didn't the Call of Duty guys use it? - cvh™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Meanwhile, Nintendo's QA department chuckles."
Of corce - TurmoilTech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All I gotta say is that Microsoft better start getting it righ ton the first shot with the 360 or the other "3rd Gen" (?) Consoles will catch up more then good 'ol Billy wants them too... *cough* sony *cough*
- cvh™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0/ Of course /
Sorry for the bad spelling - GarethSaxby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0laughterkillsme, you are aware Digg has a spell check function, right?
Anyway, I agree that the Call of Duty 2 MP system on the Xbox 360 is flawed heavily, but concidering how important the Hard Disk is to Xbox live I wouldn't have thought a patch would not be viable. Still, a patch isn't going to come out, it's really not in IW or Activisions interests. I just went out and bought a copy of Halo 2 to play on my Xbox 360 instead of Call of Duty 2 online, it's far better even if it looks worse. - mobber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0really: any complaints about the xbox 360 at this time is like complaining about the performance of an employee on their first day of work. while it may be true, you have to take into consideration that it will only get better.
getting to play cod2 on the 360 is a priveledge and not a right. true it's not the "ULTIMATE" game, but it's really good. surely, one can get far more than $60 worth of entertainment out of it.
also: i don't think that a forum entry by a jaded customer counts as a true news source... - poipoipoi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Consoles suck!
PCs suck!
Pen and paper is where it's at!!! Tic-tac-toe baby!!! - Mark_H, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"You do know that the HD for the Xbox was only something like 8GB, right Mark H?"
I know that it was small...but that doesn't mean that the 360 couldn't have had a larger hard drive. On black friday this year Staples was selling retail 250GB HDD's for - laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cod multi blows, they put so much effort int eh SP .. than give the multi to the itnerns or something. If I wanted Deathmatch I'd play Quake 4.
- Chris_F, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0COD2 Xbox live does indeed suck. As if it would really take that much time/effort to make a patch. They're just a bunch of lazzy bastards.
- m00nstone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok, everyone is missing the point. This whole thing has uncovered a very important issue. Can xbox360 games actually be patched through Xbox Live?? Not from a technical standpoint, but from a practical standpoint.
Like, oh, Joe customer you're game is still buggy because you don't have the hard drive, or you don't get to play with your friends because you don't have the hard drive... or you can't get these extra levels because you don't have the hard drive. How far will they actually go with fixes/features/extras using the hard drive?
My guess is; the hard drive will most likely be under-utilized for a whole host of reasons, most importantly, avoiding isolating customers... history has shown that optional peripherals are highly under-utilized. And it sounds like Sony and Nintendo are going to follow suit with optional drives... the whole thing is really quite sad. - mobber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for future reference, i don't think that a forum entry by a jaded customer counts as a true news source.
- jla1987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't even have a 360, but this article is interesting.
dugg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is why I can not believe PC developers are feeidng the XBox's longevity by giving it disingenuously good games. "Yeah! Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4 for Xbox! It's such a great system!"
It just makes me lose respect for the companies, especially for releasing the games in such a sub-par form.
For ***** shame. No one deserves to play Call of Duty 2...out of all its glory. - TurmoilTech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Furthermore!!! With the level of performance expected out of proffesional gamers, I think the controller technology needs to progress with the rest of technology, PERIOD!
- jefferson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dam that should have been shoot not *****
- limewire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I to am a longtime, diehard cod fan, cod from the start, then cod:uo. had a clan, from that clan we spawned another clan (a clan of bitches, but that as not the point) the point is activision sold out the entire cod community. they call it a franchise, it is not really a franchise, they had one great game and a great expansion pack(united offensive). with cod2 the sold us out, single player was awesome, but 60 bucks is too much for a single player, one shot deal. we need to talk online, thats where the gaming lives. activision never saw the spark in their players eyes when fragging a nazi, caturing that flag, dominating in domination. never took in to account the friendships made on the battlefield, the allinces created to push back the enemy. the only thing that mattered was the dollar sign on that microsoft 360 contract, the only gleem was in the eyes of the corporate prick that signed the deal killing the game, dead, forever.
screw xbox, the game is never good enough on a console,
pc is where it is at for me.
cod2 muliplayer;
the nades snitch on you.
players are over sized and look funny.
the maps are not new, just redos of old maps.
player cannot sprint.
the game simply has no soul, and it was supposed to be better then the other games?
it could not even give the first cod a run for it's money.
I play Red Orchestra now.
GG to all the other cod refugees, playing misc. games out there to pass the time.
activision may have killed call of duty, but the vets of ww2 live on in the other games i play.
I participated in the massive server shutdown. - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, good thing that they lowered the initial 64 players on live down to 8...
- ceeto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm re-thinking my decision to buy an xbox360 now. heard so many complaints about it
- nannerla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i played the game for the 360 all night last night in a lan and it was pretty good only a few things i didnt like and they were minor the only big thing was that the antialiasing was like not there and also wtf to the people who say its not as good as the pc u pob played in 480i or p or 720 p try 1080i it look amazing minus the antialiasing
- jakbrud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 I have to agree, the single player campaing is prettyshort, i beat it in about a week and i didnt even play that much (a few hours at most per day). The XBOX live play is lackluster. The game does not have that much replay value and honestly, for 60 bucks, it should. I never had any lag problems though
- DeadlyCouncil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All I'm hearing is people's opinions about PC gaming versus consoles...
this is a really bland topic.
For the record I've never played the PC version of COD2, but I've never had any lag on Live... - nannerla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0o yea and i forgot to add that live does lag but not too bad but it could be much better if the games were hosted by microsoft they could do that now pretty easily with a patch pretty easily if they made it so u can have 16 actual players and 1 spectator which was microsoft snd they were always host
- merdeisel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i love cod2... no complaints... just got that Dead or ALIVE 4... amazing.
- hogrod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0console vs PC..... HMMM i guess i missed the title/article that was comparing the two. why not just stick the real issue...... activision releasing another game that has bugs. the original call of duty for the xbox also had issues. don't know if you can still access this info on there forum but there is lots of problems listed there. my original xbox with a samsung drive(which i still have no problems with) would sometimes do some seriously crazy stuff during game play, and when online would even lockup my xbox(sound would even freeze)
the funny thing is when i emailed them they tried blaming my equipment and even asked if i had modified my xbox in any way.(even though i already told them that both xboxes i tried it in had the same issues) - GRIMREAPER187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cod2 is tight as hell should have never implemented the multilayer i have a feeling that is why they didn't tie in counter strike with half life 2
- sWeEtReVeNgE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have Call Of Duty 2 on the PC, on a really fast gaming rig, and i pretty much have no lag whatsoever
- stickyboot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, just for the record, Activison dose NOT "program" COD2, Infinity Ward Dose.
- MacTheRipper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It was a simple yes or no question northlite...Now are you?
- TurmoilTech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have now dug the topic due to the good discussion that it's brought forth.
- ehavir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sWeEtReVeNgE: That's great, but not what this post is about. I don't think the solution is "go out and buy a really fast gaming rig". Besides, there are lag free games for the 360. It isn't the system, it's the game design, unfortunately. It'd be great if it could be wrapped up in a nice little box that "the xbox 360 sucks", but it doesn't. IMHO, it's a great system so far and is right up there from what I remember from launch titles on the PS2, N64, etc.
It's hard to compare "launch titles" with the PC world, since hardware changes daily and game companies are always pushing new tricks and tweaks on somewhat standardized systems with a wide array of hardware. Ya know? - Shamrock6699, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Posted by cubbieco
"Love the misleading article title. Complaints grow... try 1 repeated complaint documented."
You must have missed xbox.com where well over 1000 complaints have been posted.
http://forums.xbox.com/745704/ShowPost.aspx - Ekstra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gaming companies have to realize that most games will be more fun with an online component. This article has a couple of disturbing trends in it:
-more thought to the play-it-alone part of the game than the online part by Activision
-Microsoft seems to be the only one coding the possiblilty of private game rooms atm
-Microsoft may intentionally be making it hard for Activision and other 3rd party software developers to code modifications to the lobby
-Microsoft allowed xbox 360 consoles to be sold without harddrives, which seriously reduces the capabilities of games to be updated/upgraded. This is both irritating and stupid. - ThomasAnderson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Everybody keeps bitching about the quality of the launch games for 360. None of the launch games are using even a third of the capabilities. I have two words for you:
HALO 3! - Who8myR1ce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's no two ways about it, this game was rushed and it totally disappoints me. I have been a long time player of the CoD games to date, but this multi player setup is totall crap. how can a game developer actually release this game and feel good about it on xbox live. its obvious to me that they released this as fast as they could to get as much money generated as possible. I have seen both sides, PC and Xbox360. xbox cannot hold a candle to the PC on this game. it needs a major overhaul and i will be dumbfounded to say the least if anything happens. I know there can be updates, but im talking about MAJOR improvements. Like the lobby system, wow.. speechless. Organizing with friends to play an online game is pretty much impossible, and you can pretty much forget about clans organizing to have a match or scrimmage. Its just horrible, random people thrown together in a match, nice lol. you can try to invite friends but good luck. As for the lag, some nights are good, others are bad. Never had that problem with the PC version so Im guessing it has something to do with Xbox Live or maybe the program transition from PC to console? I dont really know, but it needs to be addressed as well. There are major problems and I see very little being done to fix them online. If you like a single player 1st person shooter, this is fun, but avoid the multi-player. ALso wish i had read these forums first before i got the game, lmao. Im done venting, look forward to responses.
- panic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You guys seem to have a lot of problems with xbox360s. I have a few friends that have them and all of them have this game. It runs great. I don't think any of them have had problems.
- AlphaPapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If there is going to be a patch, it will be on the Xbox Live servers, not individual gaming machines. At least for repairing who is the host. Which should fix most, if any, noticeable lag. The other things we are going to have to live with. It is, after all, a first generation game on a new console.
I like both console games and computer games. However, you will find me playing more console than computer. I only upgrade my computer every 2 to 3 years, and 3 months after that there are games out I can't play. A console is put out about every 4 years, by 1 manufacturer, and throughout the consoles lifespan I can just go to the store and pick up a game and know it will work without updating drivers or upgrading my console. - ehavir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cubbieco: Misleading as the post "dreamcast lives" since it actually isn't alive. Hope you didn't get fooled by that one. As for one complaint, actually there are a few, and it's the quantity of people complaining that is growing.
There are some that aren't seeing the issue. I'm not sure why that is. When I can get in a solid match, it's solid. It's nothing to do with my connection. But when I'm in a laggy match, nothing is worse. The ping status screen is of no help to that issue. There are also issues with matchups and skill ratings, etc.
For the record, the first person version is excellent. It's only the online that is having issues, and it's one product. PDZ has had no lag issues, to speak of. I do own several consoles, and so far the 360 is performing just fine overall. I'm sure if you wanted to, you could tear it to shreds.
As for the PC vs. console discussion... it's about as worthwhile as the Atari vs. Intellivision, Sega vs. Sony, 360 vs. PS3, Mac vs. PC, Dell vs. Gateway, Ford vs. Chevy, New York vs. California, etc... Happy New Year. -
