- MechaZain, on 10/10/2007, -2/+65I've shopped there more in the past three months then I did in all of 2006 thanks to CAG. Good job, Circuit City...
- guitarpro411, on 10/10/2007, -4/+56i work at cc, and we have ad's usually a month ahead sitting in the back. Wouldnt be that hard to to walk out with one and put it up on the web.
- shakestheclown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+45or is from the future
- mratzloff, on 10/10/2007, -6/+46Circuit City lawyers have also gone after DVD Talk (www.dvdtalk.com) as well. It looks like they want to hold Speedy legally responsible through whatever flimsy legal justification they can find. I'm sure Sony is furious about the PS3 price drop leak and wants someone to pay. Whatever. I hope both sites tell Circuit City what it can do with itself.
Note that he posts not just Circuit City ads, but also Best Buy and Target as well. - shakestheclown, on 10/10/2007, -1/+38Think of it this way, you are feeding your fish in their aquarium. One day someone else feeds your fish, and outside a dog barks. On the television, the Dallas Cowboys are winning a Monday Night Football game. Then you realize some people prefer their cucumbers pickled. That's why it's a big deal.
- zydeco, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31Maybe CC doesn't want their competition to know what their prices are until the drop actually happens? Advance information lets the competition plan. Digg me down for saying it, but leaking company secrets (no matter when they are scheduled to be sent public) deserves a slap. Granted, if CC really leaves ads lying around the store that's another matter, but that seems pretty hard to believe.
- expert01, on 10/10/2007, -7/+38Why is it such a big deal? They're going to be public domain soon enough.
- Thater, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31or wandered into the back.
- JoshuaH, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28Or knows a CC employee.
- ToadLeg, on 10/10/2007, -6/+32Circuit City is suing someone for advertising them? ***** Circuit City, I'll shop at Best Buy when I have a choice.
- Pic0, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25Hope more people join cheapassgamer over this :D
- mattcoady, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Its also a bit of a money grab. Say you were getting a new Television and you knew all the specials that were coming up, you'd wait it out. Stores like to sell things at full cost.
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17it's a surprise party from the company's standpoint.
- ers35, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17Most forum software doesn't even have a field to enter specific personal information such as address and phone number.
- laseractive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Copyright violation my ass. The guy didn't scan ads or even give out the complete ads. He typed in text prices he read for DVDs and games. If that is a copyright violation we might as well void the first amendment now and get it over with.
Best Buy tried pulling this crap on Fat Wallet and lost. As long as he is not scanning ads he is doing nothing wrong. - Zero2aHero, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19or Speedy IS the Circuit City ad
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+20And it's also against company policy...so it's obvious that Speedy is a cc employee
- StingerMS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I was a Circuit City Associate for almost 3 years. The reason they don't want ads to get out early is because they want people to buy what they want right now, at full price.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12All Speedy has to do is claim that he's a "psychic". Afterall, look how much they get away with.
- Micoderre, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15"through whatever flimsy legal justification"
Flimsy? What? There are disclosure and dissemination agreements in just about every contract for dudes that would be getting access to sensitive business information, like upcoming sales. If you leak that stuff, you better be prepared to face the consequences. I don't see how Circuit City is in the wrong here, at least from a legal perspective. - aywwts4, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12The CheapAss forum has google picture ads on it, being all context sensitive, its an advertisement for circuit city. I clicked it.
I just made Circuit City pay Cheap Ass Gamer money. - imdwalrus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11...or works for a newspaper or a printer that produces the circulars, where it'd be easy to get one ahead of time.
- duniyadnd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Obviously you're taking things a bit too literally
- mrsteveman1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Sony can ***** itself too
- crazihouse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7That's if you keep yourself informed about current promos, which most people buying that $3000 TV (which will be lowered to $2500), don't.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Correct, but it'll have the users' ip and email addresses. CC may have the email address on file, but at the least they'll be able to work out which store the leak's coming from.
- knodi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9CAG should tell Circuity City to kiss his dick.
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Out in the public is NOT public domain. Unless you're referring to a much more broad and general sense, as opposed to how GD applies to copyright law.
- xXShadowstormXx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'm one of them.
- Pic0, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6dont most give a 15 day money back?
- travislopes, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8People still shop at Circuit City?
- Cymrubeats, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Or he can say god tells him...how can they argue with that if even the prez says it.
- DreamVsPs2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5CAG saved me lots of money!
- CheapyD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Thanks for your support!
- Yarnage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Really? I worked at CircuitCity for over a year and, unless things changed in the two years that I've been gone, they were always shipped a box of ads for the next week only 1-2 days early. Other than that, they usually got a copy a little bit more ahead of time but that was usually about half a week ahead of the actual sale. We never saw anything beyond a week early and I was told that corporate only worked on ads about 3-4 weeks in advance....
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I bet he's stupid enough to post it from home and I bet there's no more than 2 stores near where he lives.
- bflfab, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sony has a gag order on pricing until they decide it is ok to announce price drops.
- Guspaz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The question is, can you copyright a price?
I suspect that there are other issues at play here; perhaps the journalistic right to keep sources confidential? - oMeSSiaHo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3When I worked at CC I would use the next weeks ads to close sales. The customer can price match ***** up to 30 days so I would just tell them to come back. They are getting a good deal of free advertising but it has never been Circuit City's way to think things though. Just wait until Labor Day to see how bad it can get...
- gforce42, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Not to mention that most stores, especially BBY and CC, get the same deals from hardware manufacturers. The only difference is usually the last number of the model. In the rare case that the deals given are different (this happens quite a bit for black friday), this model number difference allows stored not to be forced to price match.
- timfitz99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Sure, but instead I'd normally buy it elsewhere than CC, at sale price. When I knew it would be on sale at CC, my money would go to CC. So, at least for me (and most CAGs), they got MORE of my money when I knew a sale was coming.
- trunkster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Circuit City most likely is in trouble with Sony because of the leak. It would take a lot more then this to get me to choose Best Buy over Circuit City.
- felman87, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm pretty sure all shops work in such a manner
- xOKxWhy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Speedy is the man
- dmsomebody, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I've never been to CAG or their forums but CAG is only reporting the information. They didn't sign a contract with CC not to release sales information. CC wants to know who the leaker is since they think it came from within. That may well be. Or it can be anyone in the hundreds of newspapers that have the sales information weeks ahead of time for printing.
- kavery, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Guess they're going to go ballistic (or not) again once the Black Friday ads leak.
- kubedawg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2laws are made to simply ***** good people over and cause bad people to prosper.
Common ***** sense, on the other hand, is what our government should be based off. And considering our president looks, acts, and thinks like a chimp, I doubt the rest of the government will be much better.
I set my own moral standards, some of which might not make much sense to others, but that's because everyone is different, so while I respect your opinion, who's fault is it for making this 'sensitive' material leaked from Circuit City? Who do we blame? We can easily put blame on the person who leaked the documents, but cmon. Someone had to be the one that simply put those documents in a non-secure location, and if it was an employee, then so what? Circuit City made a bad hiring decision. There are 2 main people we can blame this on...
Furthermore, how will this affect Circuit City's sales? What makes them want to keep this information so 'secure?' I think it's like running a red light in the middle of the night and noone is around to see it. It may be against the law, but it's certainly not immoral.
You can't STEAL information. Someone GIVES it away. see the line drawn between those 2 statements? No? It's an invisible little vertical line that says 'USE COMMON SENSE' - BrianDe, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3CheapyD talked about this on the lasted CAGcast. The whole ordeal is so stupid, Circuit City already sucks, I would love to see them go bankrupt, cause I know Speedy1961 won't be the last person they target.
- imdwalrus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Those ads are printed WEEKS in advance. If they get put online a week or two early, there's no possible way that Target or Best Buy would be able to respond in time to undercut them - their ads are being printed for the same week at the same time.
- cello, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And futhermore, the forum poster probably just used his handle as his "real name" like most of us do anyway.
CC's "legal case" would result in finding out that Speedy1969 lives on 123 Home St. and has the last name of Last. -
