Childhood Gaming: What Games Would You Like Re-Made?
2old2play.com — Many of us older gamers grew up in a time when video games were 8-bits in size. Heck, many of us grew up when video games were just circuit boards with fancy wood siding. Unlike some technologies, such as the invention of the automobile or television you don't have to be an elder to recall the history of video games....

- StrangeFamous, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21Some of these would be remakes/redesigns, some would be sequels. All of them deserve to be reborn somehow.
Crystalis - NES
Defender Of The Crown - PC (I believe there may actually be a remake in development, not sure though)
Battle Of Olympus - NES
Bubble Bobble - NES/Arcade
Lifeforce - NES
Bio Hazard Battle - Genesis
Kid Chameleon - Genesis
The Immortal - Genesis/PC
Mechwarrior - PC (When the hell are they going to make another sequel?? I'm dyin here!)
Smash TV - Arcade/Genesis/SNES
Zombies Ate My Neighbors - Genesis/SNES
Xenogears - PS1
Virtual On - Saturn
....and the list goes on....- PolarPyro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Kid Chameleon FTW.
- Timbrwlvz1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3If Square were to remake Xenogears, perhaps they could actually finish the game and get rid of those portions of Fei in the chair on the second disc. If only Squaresoft hadn't cut the funding for the project...
- OMGWTFROFLMAOx2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Shinobi
Contra
P.O.W.
Streets of Rage
Double Dragon
Paperboy (yeah, I said it)
Fade To Black
And please PLEASE remake Mike Tyson Punchout for the Wii with all the original fighters! - chingy1788, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5not as old as the others but
I would like Metroid 2 (GameBoy)
to be remade, 3D colour, still a side scroller, like New SMB - Tsen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22TIE Fighter. PLEASE.
- houndeyex, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Streets of Rage! Yes! Golden Axe was great too.

Vagrant Story - avalonknight, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There was a Defender of the Crown remake released a few years back, under the title "Robin Hood: Defender of the Crown". It was alright.

- Amablue, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@timbrwlvz1
As much as I love Xenogears, it's the dev's team for not budgeting better, not Square's. They asked for two budget extensions. They were given the first, but denied the second one, which explains the bulk of the second disk. - Agret, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@strangefamous
Bubble Bobble has been remade on PSP
@omgwtfroflmaox2
Double Dragon is on XBOX Live Arcade with re-made high res sprites, as is Contra - bobbothegrayson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Legend of the Dragoon.
even though its not that old, it was the first RPG i was really into.
It made me play games a lot like i do these days. - Kinjiru, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I can think of a few....... Temple of Apshai would be killer :)
Lil more modern would be Descent 1/2
As for Bubble Bobble here is a copy that works nicely in XP though it is dos code (note the settings for it if u are not XP or have a diff setup)

Enjoy! - ShadedNine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Anyone else pining for another Populous game? One modeled after the classic overhead styled 1 and 2, not the more mediocre 3.
That or Masters of Magic. Wonderful game concept, pitiful AI. - Wisgary, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1omfg Mario is Missing on the Wii, MULTIPLE CHOICE WITH THE WIIMOTE SOUNDS ORGASMIC

Starcra... oh, wait... - Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm probably alone in this, but...
Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom - phuibonhoa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1For the few that have played it: Guardian Heroes- best combination of rpg, hack&slash, co-op and fighting game ever. Makes me wish I never got rid of my Saturn :(
- Toupee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I don't understand...
Why do you want all these games to be remade? Aren't they classics as they are? - panzergeist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Monkey Island

The 7th Guest
Lands of Lore
Adventure
Yar's Revenge
Galaxian
Castlevania (sidescroller for home consoles)
Bionic Commando
Ikari Warriors
Faxanadu
R.C. Pro Am

Phantasy Star - Genthree, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Hungry Hungry Hippos?
- Willeth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I would love to see a re-release of the Commander Keens on Live Arcade. All as one package, though.
- Coffeedemon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Give me a proper port of the old Bard's Tale Series (or the SSI Gold Box series - Pool of Radiance, etc) for the DS. They can't take up too much space and might be able to provide party transfers through a GBA style cart or something.
If not that - Maniac Mansion/Zack McKracken for the DS. - nartvq, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's kind of funny. You can almost tell the age range of the poster based on the games they submit. Here's my list:
Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe - PC
Heavy Gear I & II - PC
Freespace I & II - PC
X-Wing / Tie Fighter Series- PC
Kid Icarus - NES
Shadowgate - NES
Faxanadu - NES

Phantasy Star Series - Genesis - iStormy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Bard's Tale III
7 Cities of Gold
Autoduel
Zork
Of course, actually playing any of these in a simulator makes for a depressing experience. Nothing like the memories. - ifoundgodot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2RAMPART.
Oh wait, Rampart is perfect. Except for those stupid golden ships....*mutter*
- oldtimegamer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18The Secret Of Mana
Duh- chewbaccapits, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4"Blaster Mster"...Talk about...
http://www.gamecritics.com/feature/greatgame/blastermaster/page01.php - ashefire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Bionic Commando
Please Capcom, please. It would be so ridiculously fun in 3D.
- chewbaccapits, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4"Blaster Mster"...Talk about...
- Trask899, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2Well, just to get it out there: FFVII and/or FFVIII
Going away from that beaten horse:
Vectorman - Genesis(I believe there was something happening with it then it was dropped, don't know why though- Tsen, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Ugh, a big NO to FFVIII. Squall was the worst FF hero by a long shot.
- DJCult, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I like 8 a lot, but both those games are recent enough to not need a remake. Contra, on the other hand...
- DSmooth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12I'll try to pick less common titles like:
Uniracers for the SNES
and
ESPN eXtreme Games for the Playstation - lordtyros, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14Perfect Dark. That game was ridiculously before its time. Years later, it still has some of the best bots.
NOTE: I'm pretending PDZ was never made. For all our sakes.- oldtimegamer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Poor PDZ. All they needed to do was remake PD and update the grafix. Sadly they tried to be innovative.
- Spoonicus, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1i think you mean ahead of its time.
- n8r0n, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Blasto
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blasto_%28video_game%29- chocobomog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It wouldn't be the same without Phil Hartman...
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/11/2007, -8/+1zombies ate my neigbors, and super smash bros... damn, still 5 more moths.
- oldtimegamer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14super smash bros? You must not be that old
- scbysnx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1sounds like there is a zombies at my neighbors like game coming out soon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombies_Ate_My_Neighbors
- SecretJolly, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16I'm not as in depth a gamer as some of you, but if I wanted to see re-made games, here is what I would want. The list is short, but distinguished:
Duke Nukem- N64/ PC my first experience with FPS
Afterburner- Sega/Arcade I wasted a lot of quarters in the arcade here.
StarFox- N64
Super Mario 3- NES My first game addiction.- Zalyster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Well, you're in luck!
There's an awesome Duke Nukem remake, coming out, oh...10 years ago? Wait nevermind, that one's never coming out. - jsballardx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1So's my johnson.
Oh God I just said a line from Top Gun!
- Zalyster, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Well, you're in luck!
- ps3udov3ctor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4tempest but MUST have rotary controller, otherwise it's just no good.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempest_%28arcade_game%29 - doodirock2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I would love to see a remake of Kid Icurus for sure. Dont think it would make much sense in todays industy, but i would love to see what game designers could do with it.
- staticdrifter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Yes. That and also Crystalis and Startropics.
- jsballardx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You mentioned Startropics one of my most favorite games of all time. I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power.
Memories. - xNaquada, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Startropics has a sequel for NES, called Startropics 2.... and its very worthy of the title. Still got it. But a Startropics 3 would be amazing!
- johndi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I'd have to say remake and finish the Alternate Reality series.
- tensaibaka, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4A few titles I'd like to see remakes of;
Track & Field - NES, that game was hard......until the NES Advantage came out.
Urban Street Fighter - NES
Hogan's Alley - NES
and how about Elevator Action - NES and arcade- oldtimegamer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Elevator Action FTW!!
- g30ff, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Why, the best game ever of course: Wasteland
Runner up: Zork- dafreshfish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Oh, the bygone days... When box art was really meant to be art, and the in-game graphics never quite compared to the box art...
One game that I was reminiscing about was the original "Metal Gear" for the NES. I also second your opinion on "Wasteland."
- dafreshfish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Oh, the bygone days... When box art was really meant to be art, and the in-game graphics never quite compared to the box art...
- green1152, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Carmageddon
Perfect Dark
Zombies Ate My Neighbors (Good one, splitt3rxx) - ViRaZ, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13BattleToads
Chrono Trigger - kristobal1229, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2uh James Bond: GoldenEye 007 - N64
not that old, but if they remade it for 360...
oh and Battletoads would be sik too. - KMye, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Rock n Roll Racing
Raiden Trad
Pilot Wings please- shit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Nope, but I did play Blast Corps.
Oooooooooh, I went there. - AnotherBrian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Blast Corps is awesome.
- dgaspard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Rock and Roll racing was the best game ever... I would settle for Xbox arcade with Multiplayer...
- shit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Nope, but I did play Blast Corps.
- mjenkins, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12I really want good sequels to my old PC faves: Kings Quest, Space Quest, Hero's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry (and not like the wannabe that came out 2 years ago) and of course Monkey Island. Might as well throw in Dungeon Keeper too.
- craftyshrew, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Here, here for Space Quest...I'd love to step back into the janitorial shoes of Roger Wilco. I also wouldn't mind playing revamped versions of these:
- Freddy Pharkas, Frontier Pharmacist
- Full Throttle
- Tie Fighter
- craftyshrew, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Here, here for Space Quest...I'd love to step back into the janitorial shoes of Roger Wilco. I also wouldn't mind playing revamped versions of these:
- mbwilliamson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Mutant League Football and Sonic CD. Most of the recent Sonic games are horrible.
- dgaspard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Mutant League Football would rock. I'm so tired of madden and blitz.
- cconger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Bring back
Spaceship: Warlock
Sim Tower (withOUT a cross import-platform nonsense to The Sims)
and I agree with mjenkins: Kings Quest- MrNewbie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0http://www.agdinteractive.com - KQ remakes.
- funnydale, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Clash at Demon-Head - I'm probably the only one who remembers that game...
- moxillaq, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Quite embarrassing but I really liked Jazz Jackrabbit! I thought the graphics were so good at the time for a scroller.
- Agret, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah it was awesome, the sequel had even better graphics though and co-op. Sadly co-op isn't supported over network but meh, didn't even own a second computer back when it was "new". Used to play it a lot with friends =]
- Ratteler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Mail Order Monsters
- Elum, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Basically.... the first game that comes to mind Starsiege:Tribes
It has to be one of the best games I'll ever play, few games come near it even today.- markdall, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I need to be able to vote more than once. Starsiege Tribes, redone well.
- HRF1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I would rather see new games for new systems than old games for new systems.
- Zenithan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Hell, any old RPG. Baldur's Gate II, Final Fantasy IV/V/VI (not just a Playstation/GBA revamp but an actual remake), Chrono Trigger, Tales of Phantasia, Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3, The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall... I'd say Fallout, but that really depends on whether or not Bethesda does a good job with Fallout 3. Ah, good times.
- AnotherBrian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I defiantly want Chrono Trigger. In fact, some fantastic people where part way through a remake when Square stopped them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrono_Trigger#Different_versions
***** YOU SQUARE. The remake would not have hurt you at all and you just pissed all over some of your biggest fans.
- AnotherBrian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I defiantly want Chrono Trigger. In fact, some fantastic people where part way through a remake when Square stopped them.
- DustinR, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6How about Day of the Tentacle and Goblins
- milesdavis22, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2SimCity -- I mean, actually, remade and not watered down and completely destroyed....

- Civuck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Final Assault - mountain climbing by Epyx
and pretty much anything by CINEMWARE: Defender of the Crown, Lords of the Rising Sun, 3 Stooges, Rocket Ranger, etc. - HailToTheKing, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Act Raiser
- sm4k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'd say yes to ActRaiser, but ActRaiser 2 was soooo bad. That game, like Rez, shouldn't be messed with.
- sm4k, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10General Chaos (Genesis) just needs to be ported to XBLA and allow for online multiplayer.
And I second SimTower. I wasted so many hours on that game.
And has no one really not said EARTHBOUND?- bupublue, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Earthbound is my number 1 choice!
Then..
Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom (NES)
StarTropics (NES)
Adventure Island series (NES)
Final Fantasy Legend series (Gameboy) w/better translations
Outpost (PC) - jsballardx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Earthbound is one of the greatest games ever to grace the face of the Earth.
That's right I scratched and sniffed the pages. - nickj6282, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If you hadn't said Earthbound, I would have. PLEASE remake this game for a handheld!!! EarthBound DS would rock my socks. I would give up my Xbox 360 for EarthBound DS.

- mrex9, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2None of them.
Give us new, original games. Please. - sbisnar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7syndicate
- fixedcoma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I would like to see the game "rolling thunder" remade for a download for the 360. i miss that game for the world the last time i played it was back in 85'-85. What a great classic with the side scroll, a weapon and you could duck and climb in rooms to hide. I was tough as hell, but with our upgraded knowledge against classic games: i would like to see what i could do!
- houndeyex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1How about Spacewar? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_war
- Ocelot13, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5River City Ransom
- Kilkonie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Aztec, Tapper, and the original Castle Wolfenstein.
M.U.L.E. and last but not least ... Robotron 2084.
Take that, whippersnappers!- dacheetah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I presume you mean the original Castle Wolfenstein, as in the almost ASCII top down game for the Apple IIe, not Wolf3D.
- dacheetah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I presume you mean the original Castle Wolfenstein, as in the almost ASCII top down game for the Apple IIe, not Wolf3D.
- i3x171um, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2SimTower!
ed: already mentioned, twice. I was sure I would be the only one. - georgetds, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I would love to see any of the Space/Kings/Hero's Quest type games made again, but without going the way Hero's (Quest for Glory) went in the end. From the same spectrum, I want to play a new Monkey's Island, too.
- jfr3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Starflight 1 or 2
King's/Space Quest games - stillasleep00, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Seiken Densetsu 3 FTW
- animefx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Here are the ones that top my list:
Who's with me?
- Xenogears (This game blew me away... it still has some of the best music I've ever heard in a video game... I just wish they would remake it in HD and tone down the difficult just a tad)
- Secret of Mana (This game put tears in my eyes, everything about it was beautiful)
- Soul Blazer (Created by Quest, published by Enix... just as good as Secret of Mana, with a very unique storyline and town building, you could always enter people's dreams and fight through them like you would a dungeon)
- Destiny of an Emporer (Incredible NES rpg published from Capcom)
- Streets of Rage 1 and 2 (The coolest side scrolling beat um' ups of the 8 and 16-bit era)
- Shinobi 3 (fun, great music, and really pushed the capabilities of the Genesis)
- Duck Tales (Really fun action/adventure for the NES... Since the show isn't around anymore it will probably never get remade)
- Dark Stalkers / Vampire Savior (really cool 2d fighters than need the "HD" treatment)
- Sonic CD (Still the best Sonic game ever made)
- Y's, all of them that made it here, and also the ones that didn't should be remade and released in the US!
- Cosmic Fantasy 1, 2, 3, 4 chapter 1, and 4 chapter 2 (hello?! the DS or PSP would be perfect for these games)
- Uncharted Waters (The Genesis version was better than the SNES version... this game was just plain fun)
- Bonk / Air Zonk - romainechester, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I vote rock-paper-scissors
- MarvelingOne, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I've always kinda wanted to see a remake of Legend of Zelda for NES, one where the storyline isn't in the booklet and the towns are all there, actually for a big game maybe the Adventures of Link also. figured since no one else had put them on here I might as well. Otherwise there was bunch of really good adventure games for the NES that I remember that I would really like to see get some good makeovers, one of them being Dungeon Masters or something like that, I just remember jumping around in trees trying to make my way around the screen to a castle. So many environments that seemed really cool. Could be nostalgia though.

Blue Max - 1983 Atari 400
Street Rods - 1989 PC (EGA Graphics)
Those 2 I would love to see a remake of but you have a great list as well.
