- atomicpoet, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2I recently bought Mega Man 2 for my Nokia 6275i. I was really hoping gaming has come of age on cell phones. Believe me, it hasn't. How has a game, in which it's original incarnation had only a d-pad and two buttons become such a mess of navigation? And I'd be all right with it if this was the exception but it isn't. So yeah, I'd be impressed if they actually developed Doom for phones that had sensible controls.
As for iPhones and iPods, I don't know how a company like Apple can ignore gaming. iPods have bigger install bases than DSes and PSPs combined. And the new iPods have wireless downloading. There's no middle men, no cartridges, and gigs of space. If they actually decided to be serious about gaming, they might as well buy the Federal Reserve. But for some reason, its the culture of Apple to pretend gaming doesn't matter.
It's sad, because 1995 on my old Macintosh 6100 was a very memorable year of gaming to me.- Wiinii, on 11/16/2007, -0/+2"iPods have bigger install bases than DSes and PSPs combined" - Where did you get this data?
- doshindude, on 11/16/2007, -2/+1gaming on phones/ipods will NEVER be good. It's just a fact.
- logicalnoise, on 11/16/2007, -1/+1Phase was just released for the ipod and was developed by Harmonix(makers of GH1 and 2 and Rock band. It plays just like amplitude but you can use any track you wish. It''s an amazing game to have at your fingertips.
- strictnein, on 11/16/2007, -0/+1That was actually one of the more interesting and forthright interviews I've read. An interesting quote:
"We've certainly been looking at it but Steve Jobs and I have not been seeing really eye to eye on a lot of important issues. We were in a fairly heated argument at the last WWDC [Worldwide Developers Conf.] and we've had a few follow-ups."
How Jobs thought that whole gimped Safari based development "platform" was going to please anyone was beyond me (and I think most any developer out there). If you have a guy like Carmack telling you it really sucks, then you know it really sucks.
