- blork1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I just want a Phoenix Wright game for the Wii.
"OBJECTION!"
/sound of TV being smashed. - JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21The Wiimote has to sense you standing up and raising your hand in protest. =D
- covertbadger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Funny thing is, those of us who have actually reached adulthood know that the blood and guts are for the kids (or at least those with the mental age of a child), and the Wii is for the real gamers. It's clear which camp you are in.
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Agreed. I'm not seeing any reason why *any* kind of game can't be put onto the Wii. "Oh, but the power - the power!" So ramp down the graphics and call it done if you must. The PS2 is the oldest system, and still produces great looking games. The Wii has more power than that - and I don't need 1080i or p just to play a game.
- albybum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Really? How in the hell would I play Capcom vs SNK 2 with the Wii controller?"
The Mortal Kombat team didn't seem to have an issue with this. There are several videos on youtube demonstrating their use of the wiimote.
They added gestures for the special moves (such as swing wiimote left to right to perform scorpion's projectile grab). Also, they added support for the classic controller. They may even support the gamecube controller.
So, to answer your question. You could play it pretty much any way you want. - Shirokun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Okami would be great too!
A game doesn't need to be M to be good. - loker269, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6sebbbe I think manhunt is going to prove there is an M rated game market on the Wii......
- Elric1977, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm nearly 30 and I can honestly say, I have NEVER EVER bought a game simply because it had an M on the cover. But I do know I have NOT bought a game simply because it DID have an M on the cover (for my Son).
So, really. You make it M and some people will not/can not buy it. You make it FUN and people WILL buy it! How strange is that? - blork1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Pfft, it could be as good a port as Trauma Centre for me. I just think the Ace Attorney games are fantastic.
- blork1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_More_Heroes is pretty close, I think. Same team behind it, similar graphical style. Plus: Lightsabers.
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"The Wii's strength is that it has a broad enough appeal to handle games of any genre"
Really? How in the hell would I play Capcom vs SNK 2 with the Wii controller?
For those out there who say "what about the classic controller"
I highly doubt devs are out there making games based on the ASSUMPTION that people have the classic controller, that just doesn't make sense, and those games will hit the 360 most likely
Keep in mind I LOVE the Wii, but here is how I think it will pan out...
Nintendo will be the only company that truly makes badass games for it
and of course there will be a HANDFUL of others that do well for it(1-2 of them will be on par with nintendo's best offerings)....sorta like N64 and Gamecube - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5as fun as that would be, it would have to be lightyears beyond the DS version, i'd want full 3d, and certainly full voice acting, not just some 2d port
- XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4While I have no desire to purchase M rated games I do think they would sell well.
However I think a bigger market would be Educational titles, similar to Leapster, V-Smile, etc. BUT with real game play and reasonable graphics.
The DS with its touch screen makes an idea math and spelling quiz device as seen in Big Brain Academy. Unfortunately there isn't any ramp up design of this game.
I could also imagine a subscription service for educational titles like the classic games on the Wii. - 0oo0oo0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3lol, hadoken using the wiimote and nunchuck, yay for hadoken spam! well just to show capcom wii can be a big kids toy too we have Manhunt 2, Scarface and The Godfather coming to the wii, personally I've been dieing to strangle someone with the wire between the wiimote and the nunchuck, yay for manslaughter!
- Kryptik1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This comment depresses me.
It's not that I disagree with what the rep said. Far from it. I'm actually amazed and quite glad someone in the business realizes that 'mature' doesn't actually equal mature, that the M-rating doesn't bestow instant maturity on a game. It's a distinction I think is lost on quite a few game developers and a whole lot of gamers.
That said...this kind of comment will only feed the fires of 'Nintendo = KIDDAY!' Not only will gamers read this and take it as Capcom outright saying that Wii will never be mature, but the lack of M-rated games, especially from an established company like Capcom, will give other companies even less incentive to put M-Rated games on it, because it feeds into the self-fulfilling prophecy. People don't chance on M-Rated games on the Wii, so very few actually come out. Developers see the lack of M games on there, and the lackluster sales for those that ARE there, and use that as further incentive to keep M games off the system. It's what happened with the GC.
The sad fact is that while M-Rated games are rarely as mature as their label might say so, there are a lot of great games that ARE M-Rated (and often necessitate the rating), and there is a loud, vocal, and sadly influential minority that equates quality with this rating. The lack of M games will only further stigmatize Nintendo and the Wii and keep that 'Kiddy' albatross hanging around their neck. While I laud the Capcom rep for his REASONING for not pledging M-Rated games on the system, it's time that more companies risked it. Because unless more companies try, with actual genuinely good M-Rated games (rather than overly violent, bloody piles not worth the disc they run off of), no one will really know how viable the market would have been: they'll only see 'lack of M-Rated games sales + complaints of gamers = no M-rated games for the Wii'.
Again, as much sense as this makes when he explains it, it'll only hurt the Wii in the long run. - SeBBBe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6M-rated games wouldnt sell, eh? Lets do an experiment. Release a really violent M-rated Wii game and we'll see if it sells... How about that, Capcom?
- Tsutsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3>>ImTheDarkcyde
What would be the point of full 3D? For this sort of game, hi-res 2D would look better than 3D could. - rpgguy1o1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i cant wait to play something horribly bloody and graphic on my wii
there's definitely a market for this kind of stuff - WaldoX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Capcom's Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo for the wii with hand gesture movements.
- zengonzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3 The rating 'Mature' does not imply that the subject matter is mature, but that the audience ought to be mature enough to handle the content. It's a common misinterpretation.
Sadly, age and maturity are not mutually inclusive. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I would love to see a port of Killer7, with the kinks worked out of course. the game was friggen impossible with convntional controllers
- ashefire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I currently do not own a Wii and have no plans to purchase one.
However, if Capcom were to bring Bionic Commando to the Wii... I'll have a Wii in my living room by tonight. - reefinyateef, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The Wii's strength is that it has a broad enough appeal to handle games of any genre, from All Ages to M+. Why won't Capcom try to make products that are in tune to certain segments of this demographic?
- Splutterbug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OOH Bionic Comando now there's a blast from the past, yup there are plenty of decent games out there that aren't M Rated and it's not something that really bothers me. Of course IF these age ratings are enforced how they should be a lot of games may be cut to reach a broader audience, but at the moment it really doesn't matter what rating a game gets as it's so easy for kids to get there hands on them.
In the article they mention hotel dusk as a game with adult themes but only a teen rating. A mature story and game doesn't have to have blood guts and swearing, if anything those things like the language in GTA make it seem less mature. All people want for the wii are games NOT SPECIFICALLY AIMED AT KIDS AND KIDS ALONE, as long as that happens who cares about ratings.
With budgets for games going up and up anyway do you think we'll be seeing a reduction in M games anyway? - soulpiercer7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*points to my list above*
"Doom1-3, Half-life 1 and 2, Quake 1-4, Prey, Gears of War, Halo 1 and 2, Conker's Bad Fur Day (which I would kill to have a sequel of), Call of Duty" and so many more.
with the graphics and effects of today, it's becoming increasingly difficult for good shooters and action games to get a teen rating. Mature doesn't mean graphic or violent or gory. It just means that players should be mature enough to see it. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Capcom doesn't realize that it's the little kids that want the bloody/violent games and the adults who want the "broad appeal" games like Wii Sports...
- zengonzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm surprised by how many people actually enjoyed Postal 2.
The concept was far better than the execution. - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1NO!
QCF+P or it isn't streetfighter
as a 2D fighter fan from waaaaaaaay back...thats a blasphemous preposition to me - o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Think about this from a business standpoint, and it makes sense. In Hollywood, they usually try to give Blockbusters a PG-13 rating. That's because they want as many people to see it as possible, and anything higher than PG-13 restricts the market too much. Conversely, you can't give your Blockbuster a G rating (unless it's a kids' movie), or some people will immediately assume it's not "mature" enough for them, and the market also gets restricted. So PG-13 gets you the largest possible audience. I think Capcom is saying they're going for the PG-13 rating with their Wii development.
- RastaMahata, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Phoenix wright on the wii? It should have:
- 2D _Animation_. Yes, the DS version has animation, but I want fluid animation, a bit more fluid than those found on wario ware. I dont want anime style animation though. Seeing megaman games anime movies... i just dont.
- Full voice over! Yes, wii uses a DVD. I bet it supports mp3 or a even better way to compress audio.
Object with the wiimote. You get the point right? Take That!
- 3D Rooms. I want to explore in 3d, open doors, etc.
Thats about it, so far ;) - soulpiercer7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1there are a ton of M rated games out there that work very well. Doom1-3, Half-life 1 and 2, Quake 1-4, Prey, Gears of War, Halo 1 and 2, Conker's Bad Fur Day (which I would kill to have a sequel of), Call of Duty to name a few.
what are wrong with these? They have M ratings. Are they not great games? If developers don't release these kinds of games, than the system will stagnate. Mature is just a step above Teen. The difference in a lot of cases is very slim.
saying you won't be releasing M-rated games to keep the system "family friendly" is the kiss of death. you will be leaving out SO MUCH content. It's a REALLY big mistake. - Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Oh well. I hope they're proven wrong, as at least I am very interested in both the Wii and violence (which is really all they mean with "mature").
- MindStalker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You know what would really rock, educational games for the Wii that use the DS as the controllert. Sure this wouldn't have broad appeal, but for an educational setting it would rock.
- tlarkin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Resident Evil for the GC was one of the best console games to come out in Years! It was one of the only games I actually beat all the content of and still play it. I unlocked every secret, got every weapon maxed out on the hardest of diffiuclties and even beat all the mini games.
I think that a lot of GC owners will agree with me that it was the pinnacle of the game cube itself, that game simply is awesome. I own a GC, xbox, PS2 and a Wii now. I only owned a few games for my GC because there weren't that many super great but the ones that were great were really great like RE4.
Please make some cool games for us Adults! - darylg18, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I don't understand why this is such a big deal. Most of the games I have played in recent years with a rating of "Mature" sucked anyway. I often feel games aimed at hitting the "Mature" rating do just that, hit it and have no substance. Whether it's dismembering a opponent, shooting holes through numerous NPC's or just raw violence, that is all the game in tells. The story line is usually a crappy thrown together plot overdone by 10 games already and are using the killing and shooting as the real draw for the game. What the game industry needs is fresh ideas not the same GTA model, I am hoping the Wii will spawn that type of development.
Oh and as far as I can remember the only 2 mature games I really have liked playing outside of FPS ( I started on a Atari BTW) are the Resident evil and GTA series that's it. Go over your list of your most favorite games (and I do mean Favorite, not just like) and see how many really need a Mature rating. I don't play many FPS on consoles so I'll leave those out of this discussion.(although the will could change that if the controls get sorted out) - DeBurgo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Isn't No More Heroes coming to Wii from Grasshopper Manufacture? And isn't that going to be M-Rated AND published by Capcom?
Anyway, if you look at the general cross-section of the industry, MOST games aren't M-Rated. It would be a downright stupid business decision to make a large portion of your games M-Rated, as a publisher. - morningmatters, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0By "Mature" games people must mean FPS and GTA clones? It's true that there are less of these types of games on Nintendo consoles but then Wii's controller has the potential to make these types of games so much more interesting (if implemented well).
- HideoKojima, on 10/12/2007, -21/+3They couldn't be more right, we all know that the nintendo urine is a console for kids, leave the guts and blood for the real gamers.
