- Talus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19love that game!
- taxman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12You can download the demo from marketplace......that should keep you busy till you get the game.
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+111,000,000 copies, and no save game irpovement. I loved the game, but the save game ruined it for me.
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Great game but the game save issue along with the unreadable text on standard definition TV's is a bummer for lots of folks...
1 million copies is a lot of sales to not fix a few seemingly simple issues... - mark_in_bc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Whats not to love? Running around a mall and mowing down zombies with anything you can grab may not sound like much of a game but if you play it you'll have a hell of a time trying to stop.
- xoxuxox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10They just don't make 'em like Frank West.
He's covered wars, you know. - scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6For me, this is the definitive XBOX360 game. People can talk up Gears of War all they want, but playing Dead Rising was the most fun I had with a video game in a long time.
- fino35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My first 360 game, still fun.
- trubbleshute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What about an amusement park? Something like DisneyLand. Lots of people are there every day and there it is large enough and we know there are walls around it.
- SourWorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I don't make games for it ... is it worthwhile for me?
- mikebrowne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Mine too and I agree.
- Niffer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would hardly call Dead Rising stress relieving (save system anyone?) especially during the first 20 levels (low health, can't carry *****) but once you make the leap to level 21 or so things start to click and the save system starts making sense. I didn't play DR for the first 3 weeks I had it but I'm glad I showed a little persistence. It really is a gem of a game.
- Eleo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Dying is not a big deal. Having all of your survivors get killed because they have ***** AI and failing to be somewhere on time and having all the cases expire is.
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I hope this FINALLY convinces japan to give the 360 a chance.
It's a worthwhile machine if you make games for it. - OdinsFury, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Hand chainsaw triple booked for the win!
- Netmindstorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think Frank does have some issues:
snuff shots, erotica shots, Frank the pimp, dressing up in little kids' outfits....the list goes on. He probably just spent too much time on the internet.
Great game overall that exceeded my expectations for fun and replay value.
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This game rocks hope they make a 2nd one.
- a0me, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Given that the user base is 300,000, that's not THAT bad.
- Konrad9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4After all those resident evil games with rare guns and eighty different kinds of keys, Dead Rising is one of the most enjoyable, stress relieving games I've ever played.
- SourWorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Never played the game or really seen anyone playing it ... but it sounds like this game would benefit from some good co-op.
- Malik112099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can we get this in a Platinum Hits to go please?
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I loved Dead Rising but I simply could not stomach the fact that you absolutely cannot beat the game until you fail countless times first.
- trubbleshute, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@stevenisi
In case that is not a rhetorical statement, this is the reason:
Digg is a community driven site, with popular opinion meaning that popular stories getting to the front page. If the majority of people like the xbox 360 and Wii, and do not like the PS3 then expect to find articles that are the same as opinion. Another example is Fox News and CNN, if you're liberal you watch CNN and if you are conservative you watch Fox News.
@Spidoman
The save game system was designed that way on purpose > the "survival" aspect of it. - Niffer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought there were only 2 books for the chainsaws, the Hardware and Serial Killers books. Could you kindly explain? Thanks!
- trash64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its 1,000,000 shipped but at the same time they get the money for the what they shipped. Good job Capcom!!
- 0x0000ff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Every time you play it you find something new and awesome to kill stuff with.
Driving around the maintenance tunnels at full speed, killing a couple thousand zombies in a few minutes :)
Disembowel maneuver :)
Lawn mower :)
Perform the double lariat while holding a katana :) - aldebaran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ Niffer
There's a third book, i think it's the one about Entertainement or something else unrelated to chainsaws. It's at the same place where you picked up the first book. - kelbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Only took 1 failure for me. Then xbox360 died and I lost all my levels because I had to return the whole bundle to the store. Then I had no problem completing every scoop in my path starting from level 1 because I already learned the mall layout and tricks(like loading up on lots and lots of Quickstep).
- bluemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The acclaim generated in North America and Europe has in turn helped to generate sales in Japan, leading this game to reach one million units in sales soon after release."
But Japan only contributed 36000 copies...
http://www.vgcharts.org/japgamewk.php?name=Dead+Rising - rollingstone21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well done Dead Rising! Great result
- Sp0rAdiC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I had never heard of this game until I was home for christmas, and my little brother told me about it. It's been in my gamefly queue since the day after christmas, and it's always had a long wait. (I don't know if that means much, but it sucks becuase I want to play it)
- SSCrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nah, I'd rather have my endless supply of Megabusters.
- lardlung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry, I can only go for the mindless zombie slaying for so long before I get bored with the rest of the game. That part is fun for a while. The game tries, it does. But infinitely spawning zombies, the WORST AI I've seen in a "follow-me" game since ever, the janitor guy thing - he'll call and pester you non-stop to tell you the same things while you're in the middle of combat thus disabling jumping and ATTACKING, and if you hang up on him he just calls back, or just not answering and listening to the goddamn ringing sound throughout the game; having to find the save points located only at the ass end of the universe (literally in the toilets), major foes that respawn "just because", crappy character design, and sloppy controls. Have I covered enough yet? Maybe I'll throw in the contrived limited-use weapons system, too - because lead pipes wear out after a few skulls, right?
Despite all that, the game's heart is in the right place. The execution just needs to be re-visited. And hopefully the former executors of said execution, executed. Kill smash. Braaaaaaaains. - Darksoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I loved this game if this game released co-op in the next one it would own even more, more game company's need to realize that gamers want more co-op I do notice that games made for xbox 360 seem to realize this it has to be on-line co-op to not just lan or on the same xbox 360 when I buy a game the first question I always find I look for is does it have on-line co-op.
Anyway this game needs a second installment, just need to get rid of the 72 hour time line though. - gfreeman223, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really LOVE this game bu HATE the save game system. And not to mention the absolutely brain dead AI and "Otis the Goddamned Yappy Ass Janitor"
But overall, it was still a great game. Just make sure to get the serial killer book (3x edge weapon life) construction book (3x construction related items life) and just stock up on mini chain saws from the creepy ass clown you kill. Makes the game an absolute breeze! This advice was taken from a FAQ online. - justice7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This was also the first game i bought for the 360
Great game. - dingmah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeh, the demo should be enough to hold you over until the game comes. Capcom lets you free roam with no time limit, which just makes you want the game that much more after playing the demo.
- aldebaran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Add up the Entertainement book for an addition x3 which takes you to almost unlimited hits with the mini chainsaw. You get 27 times more hits with three books!!!
- eliotmat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dead Rising and Gears of War are my only two games.
Gears of War collects dust.
Dead Rising is possibly the best single player game I've ever experienced. The save game system is fine by the way. My only gripe is that the 3 guys on the humvee come back after you've already killed them.
Great game! - kelbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the way the timeline worked. You get pressure from the deadlines, and after leveling up to go back through it, your higher level of performance allows you to handle more and more of the scoops so you could come back through that time period a second time and end up seeing new stuff so it's not as repetitive.
- Chilllllion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dead Rising is the game i always wanted made, ever since I was young. It is imperfect, but the next installment should iron out the issues.
- Barman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would love to see a second one. I wasn't a big gamer until I picked up Dead Rising, but I absolutely loved it. One of the funnest games I've played in a long long time.
- Tempt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The first time i played this game i wasn't really into it. I got bored easily probally due to the fact that it is pretty hard to stay on the mission because there is alot to do but now im starting to like the game.
Gears of War ftw though. - computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I hope it gets to Platinum Hits fast. I can't justify $60+tax on a game that the demo wasn't that exciting to me.
*stares at Gears of War* - NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4The demo has a time limit
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some small chainsaws, all 3 books, real megabuster, katana, and hold onto the excavator.
And away you go! - MasterGrief, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't see why they wouldn't. Game companies love to make sequels because, as everyone knows by now, a sequel is always safer than creating something new. With that in mind, I know it's only a matter of time until a Dead Risen, Dead Arose, or simply Dead Rising 2 comes out. My only concern is the setting of it--It can't be a mall AGAIN, so what this time? A barricaded city? Seems like that'd just leave you frustrated with an inability to escape, so if not that, what?
Any ideas?
Oh, and on another note, I have a rather comical image I found a while back on DeviantArt:
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/39808393/?qo=14&q=dead+rising&qh=boost%3Apopular+age_sigma%3A24h+age_scale%3A5)scale%3A5 - amzran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Now maybe they have the money, time, energy to start releasing a new disk version with the small text stuff fixed.
- slickhare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love this game! Though once you get the books/small chainsaw combo (and adam's really not that tough to beat, if you pick up the katana and sub machine guns on your way over), you kinda lose the incentive to pick up random things to get by, since you can just cut through hordes of zombies (and psychopaths) with ease. I just hope that in the next one there is no "god weapon" because it sorta takes away from the dynamic of the game; at least make it the ultimate unlockable or something to that end, not a respawning super weapon.
