- pagit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54All 121 Future Shop stores are owned by BB.
I never understood why they opened (built) a Futureshop right beside the BB in Surrey B.C.
The only difference is company colours - the prices are exactly the same as well as the service: crappy.

Definitely not the right place to be saying something like that. - shirosamurai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29You are aware those are Canadian dollars?
- viewdrix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Just in case they remove it from the description for whatever reason, here's a screenshot:

That is like saying "White Power!" over and over, while walking in an all black neighborhood in your favorite big city. - Phatfiddler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Getting fat on a beach in California.
- viewdrix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24I ran out of space in the summary, but credit goes to duhbeyeh on 1UP's EGM Game Discussion board for pointing it out to me.
http://boards.1up.com/zd/board/message?board.id=egm_disc&message.id=930372 - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21@pagit: I find the average person thinks Futureshop is Canadian-owned, so they will shop there, rather than give business to the well-known American chain, Best Buy. Upon hearing that Best Buy owns Futureshop, people are usually really disappointed.
- Sil369, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Hmmm, couldn't help ... googled -> "xbox 360 elite" "Sarah Connor"

- abid786, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Do you dumbasses just post without reading ANY comments posted before?
- Sil369, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14That's certainly odd. I wonder if you get a discount if you notify the sales-person 'bout it.
Btw, Future Shop is owned by the same ppl who own Best Buy if I am not mistaken. - wonkavsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The prices here look higher because the Canadian dollar is not on par with the American dollar.
That's how money works. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13But will it go down the phone book and kill all of them just to be safe?
- digid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"Bring on the PWN4G3" -from the article
- imcquill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9They always put the Best Buys right beside the Future Shops on purpose.... it's like that almost everywhere. They want everyone to go to that 'electronic section' of town, and 'compare prices'. Most people don't know they are owned by the same people.
- FearAndLoathing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Ya Best Buy bought Future Shop like 2 years ago, they keep them separate to make you think your buying from a Canadian company.

B) An Adware/Virus/Spyware Peddler
C) A Retard
D) Sarcastic - burke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Reply is good. Futureshop has commission. Best Buy doesn't. Futureshop isn't poorly laid out. It's just a less game-centric layout.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8A Sarah Connor joke on Future Shop, something tells me the webmaster over there is a Fark reader.
- cyberwarriorx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Yes they are. Basically the main difference between the two retail chains is that Future Shop does sales on commission, where as Best Buy is non-commission. Also I know starting around a year ago they were trying to go a bit further and split the product lines they sold so that they wouldn't be in direct competition with each other. In all honesty though, I've always found Future Shop more appealing.
- drspacemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I worked at Future Shop before the buyout, and remained friends with a guy who stayed there until after the buyout happened. When word got around that the new boss (BB) was building a 'competing' store less than a 5 minute drive away, people got justifiably nervous. The way the then-store-manager explained to his staff that it was a tactic that was being tested. The theory was that people, not knowing that the two stores were owned by the same company, would decide "Hey, I need to buy product X - I'll go to Future Shop and Best Buy since they're so close, and see which is cheaper". It turned out that the theory was right, and the store revenues more than doubled at Future Shop, and Best Buy was supposedly doing approximately the same numbers. As much as I hate Best Buy, it was a brilliant move.
Since then, I've heard of Future Shop and Best Buy stores sharing the same parking lot. - punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Future Shop.
- Cam_86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@pagit
They did the same thing in Winnipeg. The biggest Futureshop(st james) is on the same block as the biggest Bestbuy. In fact theres only little crafts store between them. The REALLY weird thing is, they built that futureshop AFTER bestbuy bought futureshop. - abid786, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@Scheissen
It is 0.86911 cents US for a Canadian dollar as of right now. Not too weak :| - TrevorBradley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5When Best Buy bought out Future Shop, there were two stores right next to each other in Coquitlam. They found they made *more* money than at individual locations, as the two stores would play off each other, hosting sales that the other one wouldn't have. End result, *everyone* buys from either Future Shop or Best Buy now.
Think of it as the same store in two separate buildings.
And I work very close to that new Surrey, BC FutureShop and Best Buy combo. - Haasmosis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Yes. Best Buy owns Future Shop. They maintain a dual brand strategy in Canada.
- morepinklemons, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6First of all, it scares me that you care so much about what other people do when it has no effect on you. Second, your saying gamers are immature/stupid/have no life. Thanks for the generalization. Also, why is a cooking class, or playing an instrument better than playing video games...I was under the impression that people do those things because they ENJOY them. So some people enjoy playing video games more, again, why should you care? (Congressman of my district: Judy Biggert. Oh, and I do play an instrument.)

Well, the craft store and an Old Navy, but still; it's bizarre. - kinseyincanada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2there is a small difference between the two, at a Futureshop the retailers work on commission but at Best Buy they dont.

I'm glad they're ignoring T3 for that TV show (its apparently taking place after T2).
T3 wasnt written or directed by Cameron and was incredibly poor.
I just imagine that it never existed.

- Cerpin_Taxt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Despite the commission sales at Future Shop, I still get better service at Best Buy... It all comes down to the staff, I guess.

That's exactly what it's supposed to be, mate. The official price for the 360 Elite is USD $479.99. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What the HELL is the deal with you morons saying "we" in reference to your country in submissions?
It makes NO SENSE to a majority of people (quick geography lesson: more people live OUTSIDE the US and Canada than live INSIDE).
We don't have any Best Buy stores in this country - how do you like that, huh? - tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't feed the troll.
- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Negatory good buddy. It was written by our fark-lovin' copywriter with a penchant for man-vs-cyborg sci-fi. Yes, we actually are that funny.
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"I never understood why they opened (built) a Futureshop right beside the BB in Surrey B.C."
Here, it's the opposite. FutureShop's were all over the place, now they have Best buy's next to them, everywhere.
Want to know why? Stupid phenomenom known as "brand loyalty", which also applies to stores. FutureShop was initially what you know BestBuy for, but in Quebec. BestBuy was seen as the "american big brother in the states" here in Montreal, a couple of years ago.
Now we have both and some people swear by FS, others do by BB... funny thing is they're absolutely NOT transparent about being the same company -- in fact, when I bought my Logitech G15 keyboard at FutureShop around a year ago, IT HAD A BEST BUY PRICE TAG ON IT. Hilarious...
Anyway -- it means double the ammount of weekly rebates, the only difference is you have to look at two places instead of one. - Swifti, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Only a fool would buy the Elite- WHERE IS SARAH CONNOR?
- CRasH180, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3That's too odd! Where is the terminator these days anyways?
- PetroSan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1why don't people just paint the xbox black and get the 120gb Hd lol...its not hard...but yes warranty would be voided lol
