Call of Duty Wii - First gameplay footage!
destructoid.com — This is the first video that shows some real gameplay footage. While the video quality is crap, you can see how dynamic the movements of the weapons are and I can predict that this game will be hella fun. But oh boy, the absent multiplayer mode is a biiiiig mistake, Activision.

- Wiinii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13By the looks of how it is being controlled (and no cursor on the screen), it seems unlike Metroid and Red Steel it aims like a mouse. Either way it seems to look around much faster.
- dharm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3the gameplay experience for call of duty will be somewhat similar to if you own a gyroscopic mouse, and you you play fps.
I dont think they programmed any extra movements into it (I could be wrong). - vd0man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Yea, the control in this game looks amazing. It's pretty much what everybody expected FPSs to play like on the Wii. Ubisoft (Red Steel) and Retro (Metroid Prime 3) need to watch this video and learn from it, because it pretty much blows away the controls in both their games. Way to go Treyarch! The Wiimote may just be the mouse/keyboard equivalent for consoles after all.
- DoodleMaster, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Rhose graphics are awesome in my book, I mean the chracters actually walk off the screen i mean wow talk about true 3-d
- Exploited, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It seems a little odd how the cross hair doesn't stay in the middle of your screen the entire time, so I don't think it is the same as a gyroscopic mouse.
- short_man, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Call of Duty Thwii
- Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5No cursor? You didn't see the white crosshairs moving all over the screen?
The game seems to have three aiming/movement modes, which work the same way but have varying degrees of accuracy and speed. You seem to turn when your "cursor" nears the edge of the screen.
1) No crosshairs (don't see this much in the video) -- seems to be mostly for fast turning. The guy in the video doesn't shoot the weapon in this mode.
2) White crosshairs -- decreased turning ability, but you seem to be able to quickly aim around the screen.
3) Looking down the gun sights -- More accuracy, even less turning.
All in all this seems to be a sensible solution to FPS control on the Wii. Despite what some people say, it looks to be a very different experience from PC FPS controls. - iMacG5Freek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8what would be really cool, if you could plug your wiimote into a gun like a thompson specifically made for CoD
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Here's the longer 7 minute version:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wbuGFT195R8 - j_bellone, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2Wow, compared to what presumablely was the 360 footage - That looks horrible. At the end it still says Nintendo Revolution what makes me figure that this is most likely being played off the 360. After seeing the two its probably confirmed because of simply the shadows underneath that aren't visible on the Wii.
http://media.wii.ign.com/media/815/815492/vids_1.html - swanny89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It almost looks like that when using the nunchuck to move it acts as a mouse, but when you stop moving it turns into a "point-and-shoot" scheme. Very inventive.
- green1152, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3@j_bellone
That was pre-rendered. Not real-time game footage. Definitely not Xbox 360 footage. - Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"At the end it still says Nintendo Revolution what makes me figure that this is most likely being played off the 360"
Wrong, you can clearly see the wiimote around the 5 minutes or so mark - kigabit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Since the crosshair wasn't locked in the center of the screen, it seems to me like they did the same thing Red Steel and MP3 did, except they made the invisible box around the border of the screen that triggers the camera-pan reach more towards the center. If so, then there would be a limited amount of fine-tune aiming in the center of the screen, with the rest causing you to "turn" or "look." I think this would be a good compromise between a centered and non-centered crosshair.
- dharm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3the gameplay experience for call of duty will be somewhat similar to if you own a gyroscopic mouse, and you you play fps.
- qbix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Aiming seems less precise than with a mouse or a controller. I'd have to test it to give it my thumbs up. In addition, I don't think I'll be buying more than one copy of this game, and given the fact that I love getting achievements on my 360, I think I'll stick to that version of this game. By the way, I'm not bashing the Wii at all as I know some fanboys will take my comment as such. I'm getting a Wii, but I'll be leaning towards exclusive titles that take full advantage of the unique features from this console. COD3 is something I'd have to try out in person is all I'm saying.
- CamZak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10When actually shooting you have to hold your hand still. I don't see how this is any different than real life.
- alfredn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Camzak
I agree its cool and realistic however, if theres gun controllers for the Wii that'll make it even better.
- fwee79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2hgxt2lH14 incase your not interested in slow site with lotsa spam and horrible colors..
- fwee79, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12and after watching the video, WHY in the world cant they get some decent freaking game players to show off what these new games can really do, every damn time i see a demo of a game it looks like whoever is playing has down syndrome, christ get a real gamer in there.
imagine how impressed we'd be if someone who knew how to knife people were runnin around in CoD3 already stabbin ppl left an right, how many more people would that bring into the game? (and i know we dont know if there's knives, but u should get my point) - Detritus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I couldn't get the site to load... Is this the same video:
http://media.wii.ign.com/media/815/815492/vids_1.html - timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No, that's some prerendered crap.
- fwee79, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12and after watching the video, WHY in the world cant they get some decent freaking game players to show off what these new games can really do, every damn time i see a demo of a game it looks like whoever is playing has down syndrome, christ get a real gamer in there.
- bigthecat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The absent multiplayer mode as we know is out of Activision's hands, so I don't know why they're copping flak for it. Otherwise, it looked very good, even visually - controlling the game looked a lot better than in other FPS videos for the Wii, it's all in the implementation.
- jnavarre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2With upgradable firmware, I wonder if there a remote possibility we could see multiplayer addons for games released previous to Wii's 3rd party online launch?
Wishful thinking anyway. :) - Shorties, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wait is there no split screen multiplayer or multiplayer with bots? I am fine with the no online multiplayer as I wasn't expecting that for about 6 months on the wii.
- jnavarre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2With upgradable firmware, I wonder if there a remote possibility we could see multiplayer addons for games released previous to Wii's 3rd party online launch?
- CHAIN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I run few cod uo and cod2 servers. The game itself looks nice. But the movement seems sluggish. And as all of you cod players know "sluggish=death" in cod.I would like to try it though. Now if they can just embed that wii controller into a replica m1 garand,lol..
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The guy has never played it before. The first time you played an FPS with an analog stick, could you control it perfectly? I doubt it, but now we're so used to the analog stick, unless games have weird ass sensitivity, its pretty natural.
- Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@CHAIN:
In multiplayer, everyone would have the same control setup, so no worries about that.
And I'm sure they designed the single player experience around the strengths/weaknesses of the controller. - EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The Wii version of COD does not have online multiplayer.
http://www.macnn.com/articles/06/08/24/no.wii.cod3.multiplayer/ - MedHead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think he was crouched nearly (if not all) of the time in the video. Hence, the slower movement.
- Sheir, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4***** Christ, twice in 2 days. I think Digg has officially broke the website.
- steveabb1, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Please don't use the word "hella." Thank you.
- pjack91, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Don't use the word thank you. Hella.
- itsamix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The lack of multiplayer is the reason I picked up a 360 first and will wait a year or so till I get my Wii. I was as pumped as anyone well i guess there were and are some real freaks out there and couldn't wait to get my Wii. I was going to get COD and probably galaxy seeing it was so cheap and just play COD online like 24/7 then I heard about Nintendo not suplying the necessary code for online I was really put down.
Now that I have my 360 I hate to say it but the graphics do take a part in the game play and some of enjoyment. The Wii will be my next console but will have to wait for the multiplayer to be more established! FPS's will be crazy on the Wii! - fatnutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know how you can pass judgement on gameplay until you've played it. The video was *****, and who knows how coordinated the person playing the game was.
I've been playing COD since November of 03' so I know what you're talking about. I think it has more to do with the person playing the game.
Taking into consideration the ass-quality video, I think it looks better than people are letting on. - Germs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those controls look like the new Metroid Prime 3 "expert" controls that IGN reported on from the Wii conference in NY. In that game and this COD, the aiming still isn't exactly centered in the middle; there's still a box in the middle of the screen in which the reticule can be moved and aimed. It's just that the box is smaller so the ability to turn is faster and thus aiming is a lot sharper.
- artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"I" former SONY fanboy admit that I will get a Wii for Christmas, the PS3 is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE.
- daremo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It really does not look too bad. Multilayer would be nice, even split screen. I can understand why no Internet play yet. Prob will take Nintendo a little bit of time to setup Nintendo Wifi for the Wii. Xbox360 has the advantage of an existing online network that is ready to go. I'm sure future Wii versions of Call of Duty games will have Internet play.
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This looks great!
Anyone know the name of the music track playing in the background? - Fulcan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1The graphics are terrible! There is absolutly no reason to go out and buy a Wii other than the controller. The controller should be an add on for the current system, not a reason to create a new console. Lame. Ill stick with my 360 and get gameplay, live, AND graphics.
- jeet404, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am wondering how the hell am I going to snipe without having my aim not being steady. I have use a real sniper rifle and it's not to hard the way it's made but the Wii remote is kind of small to hold it like a real gun.
- 83457, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1rest the controller on your thigh... problem solved
- kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No multiplayer. enough said.
- BTime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree, without multiplayer what's the point?
- 83457, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know if melee is triggered by a gesture? Would be great if a butt stroke motion triggered a melee. Putting the controllers in a gun attachment would make this even better.
- wonkavsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They're adding Canadian troops to this one!
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No multiplayer = no purchase
- dogstylee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hate the way the character bounces like a pogo stick when he walks. Seriously, who walks like a pigeon? As for the actual game... for me it still seems like just playing a lightgun game. When I play an FPS, for example, I've never once felt the need to start waving the mouse around...
