- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27Extraordinarily successfully it would seem.
- Cerealkillr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Give me an official Release date set in stone, and I will be excited

Looks amazing! - OldGhosts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Yeah, this seems to be one of the first Wii titles that was specifically made for the console. I have high hopes and I can't wait : )
- FlindianaJones, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Oh right, and Mario Graphics have always steered for photorealism. /Sarcasm
Dude, it's not about the number of polygons being rendered; it's in how they're used, and how the gameplay works.
The game play vids look cool, but we have no idea what it's actually like playing it yet. Once we see that, THEN I'll get really excited. - threepio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I'm not sure, but I think they're going for a "Gameplay" thing - which you should be able to find in spades in both SMG and GoWII
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10This is the Wii.. doesn't make sense to expect great graphics.. but this is probably the best graphics on the system to date.
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10You launch it with zelda instead.
- harvster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Wow, that was one weird keynote.
But it got some good messages across. However, I thought SMG was already supposed to be coming out in 2007. - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It was either Mario or Zelda. They chose right!
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Looks like great fun-that first little planetoid he landed on reminded me of "The Little Prince" for some reason.
- bethlagarrison, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Graphics have never been the Wii's strong point, and they were never meant to be. Wii is about innovative gameplay.
That's been pretty apparent since before the system launched, have you been living under a rock? - therippa, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12It should have been available at launch...how can you launch a new nintendo system w/o the accompanying mario game?
- Appox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is good news, but I've never seen anynews that has said it wouldn't be avalible this year
- superrcat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Am I supposed to be excited about this? I pre-ordered it from Best Buy in December 2006 for March 15th 2007...the order date was changed to December 31st 2007. Is Nintendo now implying there was a chance that it could have been delayed until 2008?
- imikedaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"So, you're saying the games are only innovative because of something that's innovative, but it doesn't count because it's in the hardware?"
Yes, I'm saying taking a generic game and shoehorning controls onto the Wiimote does not automatically make it innovative. According to your logic, every last Wii game will be innovative because of the hardware.
And yes, I speak English, although I'm not entirely sure how that insult validates your statement. - mittortz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I apologize for the double post, but I wanted to put more and didn't have time to edit:
Really, though, I personally feel no need to begin defending the innovative and fun gameplay here. Let's stick to the graphics:
What is wrong with them? I mean yeah, when you compare it to Gran Turismo HD or whatever then it doesn't look so real, but who cares? The art style that they are using for this game is incredibly cool and truthfully catches my eye more than those crazy-realistic PS3 games. Not saying that I think those are bad by any means, but the graphics fit the game. How they use the polygons they have for SMG is genius and really all I could ask for. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't want to play Mario; they want to play Gran Turismo HD.
So, go have fun with your perfectly rendered cars. I, however, will stick to jumping from planet to planet and climbing giant worms with Mario. - Jaymo89, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Normally I am all for free speech but; Mario is a classic franchise. If you can't appreciate it, you don't deserve to call yourself a gamer.
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10I bought a wii just for this. Then I found out it would take about a year to come out, and I got really really sad. :(
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm sure it will be out this year, but I'm sure it will be out specifically for Xmas.
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Video YouTubed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMaV_aLoFjY - jables, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2um no actually, Nintendo DID release Mario Party 8 for March 5th and then got pushed back to May 29th. Check your facts. If i'm wrong you can come punch me in the face.
- skwurl, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9This is the second digg article where you've posted this.
Get a life? - SuperSunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All the latest Mario games always have a story backend to it. Simple, usually involving the princess, but it evolves and it's there. It's up to the player to figure that one out.
No great sound fx? Are you drunk? - Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I think what really gets me wanting to play this game is the word, "galaxy". S.M.G.
I think I'll buy myself a Wii. :) - bigbadgoat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1some games grow with the generation that grew up with them and appreciate them. Mario didn't. Not knocking Mario 64, because as much as I prefered my PS to an N64, there was nothing I'd rather play more when over to a buddie's house. I had a GC, I had sunshine, finally, 3d Mario of my own. Until I realized I had a squirt gun, and I was to spend the game on cleanup duty. ***** that. So I traded the GC for a DC. Now I'm not a fan of the wii controller, so the wii is out for me, but then again, I see no reason to play Galaxy. They just went back to Mario 64, but with localized gravity. Looks almost identical to Mario 64, with sharper edges, with a space setting, and localized gravity.
YEAH! WAHOO! YIPEEE! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks artistic to me.
- jigga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I guess its Master Chief vs Mario this Christmas. This will be interesting
- sonofalink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He meant that demo with the 128 marios running around. They must have used some of the same code to show the various pikmin running around.
And since they were running around on a sphere.... well, thats where the Galaxy part comes in.
He wasn't talking about the rumored scrapped game "Mario 128" - ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Super Paper Mario is out in a month anyway.
- GhnVT, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If you can get one somewhere
- sonofalink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats a negative, all those "wii-mote specific" games such as the mini games were made specifically for the console.
Mario Galaxy has been said to contain bits from a lot of scrapped Mario games, and is rumored to be the game that was touted to be the "proper sequel to Mario 64" which was suppose to come out for the 'Cube. - Luigi239, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So that means we get it in '08 right?
I kid, I kid.
(and dang, Pikmin was Mario 128? wow, thats awesome!) - frobozz0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, this game looks like crap. Maybe if I played it I would change my mind, but the demo sure made me happy to have other gaming alternatives than a Wii.
I think the Wii's luster is tarnishing. Nintendo pretty much got owned by Sony at GDC this week.
I suppose you could argue it's different sets of goals and technologies for different crowds, and that may be true. But if you want a next-generation system the Wii isn't really the thing to satiate your appetite. Certainly if Mario Galaxy is any indicator. At least the Wii is cheap. - Jaymo89, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3There was never a set release date. It was always TBA.
March 15th was most likely fan speculation or Best Buy's own tentative date. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3It's basically the only title that would really force me to buy a Wii.. looks like it might be the best Mario ever.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It was. This is old news, but still encouraging to have it reconfirmed after rumours of many titles being pushed back. Still not diggworthy if you ask me.
- freetyme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Nintendo didn't push back Mario Party, just got the ads today March 15 you can Party with Mario all you want (for 50 bucks and if you have a Wii of course). They also didn't push back Mario Galaxy or Super Smash brother's Brawl,...they never HAD release dates.
- Falldog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The guy in the third picture looks like a skinny Jim Norton.
- jables, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Yeah great this year... aka Dec. 07', I'm starting to lose my confidence in Nintendo with pushing back Mario Party, Mario Galaxy, and Smash Brothers Brawl. Also not to mention that Wii-Play sucks ass and it's retarded that they teach you how to use the Wii-mote when the Wii already comes with Wii Sports which most people have played to death. Nevertheless, I'm still looking forward to Mario Galaxy.
- bigbadgoat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0don't forget Solid Snake. Always a contender, that Snake guy.
- jacobmp92, on 10/25/2007, -3/+1Direct video for download: http://www.vgcharts.org/news/smg4.mov
- HideoKojima, on 10/25/2007, -7/+5Another boring kiddy game from Nintendo.
- GhnVT, on 10/25/2007, -5/+2Don't hold you breath guys and gals.
- mrRB, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1So, you're saying the games are only innovative because of something that's innovative, but it doesn't count because it's in the hardware?
English, IMikeDaman, do you speak it? - Amorn, on 10/25/2007, -5/+2mario has a very simplistic gameplay and for a game that has no graphical technology, it sure takes long.
no elaborate story to come up with
no great sound fx
ok let me hear u say it ''it's not about graphics u moron its about gameplay'' - mittortz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Wait...the graphics are bad?
Sorry, I didn't notice that... - forkbanger, on 10/25/2007, -7/+2Trailer on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRq0LGQpVp4
I can't wait. - imikedaman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4How come you guys assume bad graphics automatically means innovative gameplay? From what I've seen so far, the current Wii games are pretty generic except for the innovative controller, but that's a hardware thing. Wii Sports is a nice compilation of some of the more obvious uses of the Wii controller (I say that because everyone was expecting a sports game after first hearing how the controller works).
That said, Super Mario Galaxy is *not* going to be innovative. You take the mini games from Mario Sunshine (where you didn't have the water pack), but now you can run on walls. Fun? Absolutely. Innovative? No... - Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2@bmw69
thanks for the preview, I can't imagine what its gonna look like on; or if it were to be; 1080i. -
