- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4Time to pre-order. It's gonna be a crazy Black Friday..
- davidhildreth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+56Black Friday? WRRRYYYYYYYYYY????
I just wanna rock, not deal with bitches in sweatpants running me over for some ***** $100 TV.- frostyfrog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6At least there is always online ordering, good news on the price.
- Alegis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2WRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYY is actually a cry of victory, so you got me confused for a moment there.
If you can't order online, I reckon you're better off waiting a lil' moment after release until that horrid event is over. - cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Most Gamestop's and EB's don't really have to worry about that kind of traffic. Ordering from Amazon, meanwhile, will get it to you with no nonsense whatsoever. ^_^
- Mast3rDigg3r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25lol look at gamestop trying to say they you save $30.00 from them

- vaguilera, on 10/10/2007, -6/+50170? ouch....
- Buelldozer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Agreed, that's pretty spendy for a single game.
- UberNick, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4Why so much? This is the first I'm hearing of this game, and though I may have been living in a game-free cave for the past years, 170 sounds insanely expansive for a game. Does it come with a frikkin guitar or something?
- acarr, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1are you stupid?
- dorkino, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you clearly are for asking

- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1One $60 game
+ one $60 guitar controller (wireless for PS3, wired for 360)
+ one $80 drum controller
+ one $30 mic controller
Alternatively, buy whatever you want individually, which for lots of people could simply be "only buy the game and use your existing GH controllers with it" which excludes a feature or two, but is perfectly functional, and lets you expand however you want to later on.
- acarr, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1are you stupid?
- merreborn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23It's a game and 3 controllers:
A guitar, a drum kit, and a microphone.
The game's $60, which brings the price for the other three to $36 ea.
Also, keep in mind that that $170 is gonna be split between you and two buddies (since you're not using all 3 controllers by yourself).
Yes, it's a big startup cost, but it's not unjustified.- Spytap, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3question on the PS2 version: 3 peripherals come with it, potential for 2 peripherals...2 ports to plug ***** in...am I missing something?
- Spytap, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1argh, potential for 4 peripherals I meant.
- slezzzter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The mic is USB, so that's one problem solved. Word is that the 360 version will come with a usb hub, so maybe a complimentary multitap for the ps2?
- Spytap, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3question on the PS2 version: 3 peripherals come with it, potential for 2 peripherals...2 ports to plug ***** in...am I missing something?
- merreborn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Also, keep in mind that anyone who shelled out for guitar hero and two controllers spent nearly as much. GH3 + one guitar is $100. Add a second for $60, and you're at $160.
- BabyWookie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10So? They overcharge you on those ***** guitars that are made in China for $2 a piece.
- homerj14, on 10/10/2007, -3/+35you can get a ***** Ibanez for that price haha
- bib4tuna, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1itll sound better
- ChillEnt, on 10/10/2007, -8/+51Wii would like to play.
- takeyoru, on 10/10/2007, -15/+1Won't happen. Thats why the Wii60 is the way to go.
- doshindude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Wii will play, eventually. It was nearly confirmed, just for a later date. (remember: "Absolutely.")
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2But you'll have to enter friend codes before you can join a band.
- KJSatz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Would you actually learn how it works please?
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2But you'll have to enter friend codes before you can join a band.
- EsotericBoredom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm wondering if the TBD Wii version would work like the GH3 controller and require a wiimote to work? If that's the case the game will cost a good number of people $230. The $170 for the game and and the $80 for 2 wiimotes. I doubt that many people bought more than one extra wiimote with the system.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Considering the Wii is THE local multi-playing, party-playing system, I'm pretty sure you're wrong. And anyone who doesn't have a partner to play with regarding the Wii in general probably doesn't have to worry about the 2nd guitar, either. It's kinda shared territory.
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2I fail to see how this will do anywhere close to as well as the Guitar Hero franchise has done.
- iirrkk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Drums FTW
- jerrolds, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Drums, Bass & Lead Singer?? Should be alot of fun
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Drums I can see. But lead singer... really?
How will that any different than having a karaoke machine synched up with the game?
Guitar hero - really fun if you're good at it
Karaoke - really fun if someone else is bad at it
... the two don't seem to mix.
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Drums I can see. But lead singer... really?
- davidhildreth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm sticking with Harmonix
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1They made a good game, made some sequels of varying quality, and now are trying to launch a slightly derivative product rather than coming up with a new trick.
- bethlagarrison, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Well, Rock Band is made by the people who made the first two Guitar Hero games.
I think it'll kill the Guitar Hero franchise.- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Right... and the King Kong remake was soooooo much better than the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2That's not the only thing you fail at.
- stubadub, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It's made by the same people, they are going to offer full album downloads, you get all the gameplay you already know and love plus drums and kareoke. T
- AmazingAndrex, on 10/10/2007, -7/+28For PlayStation 3 owners, this should be no issue.
- mannymix03, on 10/10/2007, -10/+28jesus, 170$ for one game, that i will play every once in a while when my friends come over.
Sorry Rock Band, you were a good idea based off guitar hero, but you failed at execution- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Wait unil you play the crippled GH3, you'll be begging for Rock Band.
Remember, GH1-2+80's edition is Harmonix.
Rock band... Harmonix.
GH3. Neversoft.
Neversoft ruined the game mechanics and added gimmicks that make it horrible to play. Ask anyone who actually got into E3. - profOblivion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm thinking more like 3-4 games if you're enough of a keener to learn every part (guitar, bass, drums, vocal). Which I will. Which will probably cause me to lose all my friends.
...
*****. - cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0...and by that, of course, you mean "$170 for one game, with me wanting to have all the instruments available, and having no one else to share the game with if they want..."
If you're wanting to play Guitar Hero, you know you can play Rock Band the same way, where you just buy the game and a guitar? Or even just use your existing guitar? The game will both play better than GH3 (as has been stated, Harmonix is the one to follow, not the GH brand) and be expandable later on if you so choose.
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Wait unil you play the crippled GH3, you'll be begging for Rock Band.
- LTSVN, on 10/10/2007, -10/+23Wired 360 controller = owned.
- reed311, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17I guess anyone who plays their guitar plugged in is owned as well.
- bethlagarrison, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21Maybe it's just me, but I still haven't found a reason to give a ***** whether controllers are wired or not.
I'm always going to be sitting on my couch. It's not like I'm going to be playing Guitar Hero in my kitchen, or while I take a crap, you know?- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Same. The only thing that's different between my 360 wired and wireless controllers is that I have to change batteries in the wireless.
- straxus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Depending on your situation, wired vs wireless can matter.
Our couch is a good distance from our TV, and I also have a toddler about. Wireless means no tripping for her, and no controllers being jerked out of our hands for mom and I. We also prefer the ascetic of no long wires laying about. - straxus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I meant, "aesthetic". :P
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Wired controller=Leet.
Anyone who wants to deal with batteries is a fool.
- bethlagarrison, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21Maybe it's just me, but I still haven't found a reason to give a ***** whether controllers are wired or not.
- swanny89, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I prefer wired: nothings worse than sitting down ready for a marathon game session to find that the batteries in the controller are dead. Again.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Nothing like paying attention to your battery level.
- swanny89, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Still its an unnecessary hassle. Just get a controller with a decent length cord, plug it in and get your game on.
- straxus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Depends on whether a cord for people to trip over, or changing batteries is a bigger hassle. It all boils down to personal preference, and what your play area is like.
- TomRemixed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3For me wired controllers are pretty much impossible. My consoles are tucked away to the side of the TV and almost not wired controller is long enough to get to my couch.
- FlyinWhee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What couch? You're not gonna play this sitting, anyway.
And if you decide to be a couch potato, god invented USB Extensions. Will do you just fine.- straxus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Until someone trips over them.
- FlyinWhee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What couch? You're not gonna play this sitting, anyway.
- reed311, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17I guess anyone who plays their guitar plugged in is owned as well.
- jerrolds, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Nov. 23 Rock Band...Nov. 24 Groupies?
- NeoCortex, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Black Friday? Really? You couldn't just release it on Tuesday and not force me to deal with the ***** crowds of people?
- phronko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You could just pretend it comes out on Tuesday and go pick it up then.
- ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8They need to make game and single instrument bundles available. I just want the drums. $99.99 seems reasonable.
- Dan11023, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1its less than that......its $80
http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Playstation-3-Drum ...- ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That's just the drums. I said $99.99 would be reasonable for the game and the drum kit bundled together.
- Dan11023, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1its less than that......its $80
- Carrot1991, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6what does the game come with to justify the price tag?
- bethlagarrison, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8A guitar controller, a full drumset controller, a microphone, and the game.
So $110 for three peripherals.- Carrot1991, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3can you make your own songs in the game?
- modifiedbears, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No, that's what real instruments are for.
- Carrot1991, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3can you make your own songs in the game?
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0...about $230 of "purchased separately" items. You can, meanwhile, purchase only what you want. Separately.
- bethlagarrison, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8A guitar controller, a full drumset controller, a microphone, and the game.
- GodIsntReal, on 10/10/2007, -13/+8Lol @ Wired 360 controllers.
- RxDaniel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I guess with all the money you have to dump into buying a PS3 they figured you wouldn't even notice the cost of batteries.
- IheartZombies, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Lol @ the first game worth buying for PS3
- RxDaniel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I guess with all the money you have to dump into buying a PS3 they figured you wouldn't even notice the cost of batteries.
- youMISERABLEpos, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2I'll pass. Can't see myself paying that much for a game that gets old and repetitive after a couple of days. Though I am basing this on Guitar Hero.. lol. Maybe Rock Band will last a week or two before the same happens!
Digg down haterzzz!- ryangoff, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Try throwing some parties. Guitar hero, at least for a small majority, seems to always be the focal point. Everyone wants to play, booze a little, and then try Jordan on Extreme. If you live at college, get three guys, spent $45 each, and you will be gods for the rest of the year.
- Craig42, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8The guitar games are pretty fun, but I must tell you I loled at the price. $170 for fisher price pieces of plastic and a game that doesn't really need a whole lot of resources to make. Time to buy some stock of whoever makes/publishes this. Activision?
- ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2You're an ill-informed little guy, aren't you?
- Craig42, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2How so? How are they not pieces of plastic that resemble kids toys? The game visually, is very simple and straight forward requiring less people to make it. Colored buttons float by the screen and you press the correct button accordingly. Oh and there's a backdrop of 3D characters playing along. How intensive that must be to make compared to something like a "Halo 3". Cheap pieces of plastic + small development team + $170 = huge profits :) People should buy the game, they really should, but they shouldn't walk out the door thinking that they weren't had because they were. They so were. Most people buying Starbucks know they are being ripped off, but they will still buy it.
- ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0"Time to buy some stock of whoever makes/publishes this. Activision?"
That's how. Activision is the publisher of Guitar Hero.
- ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0"Time to buy some stock of whoever makes/publishes this. Activision?"
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Craig, why do you not complain about console controllers in general, which can get up into the $60 all told? Are they using fewer electronics? Are they way more complex? Are they way more rugged?
These kinds of music controllers actually need to use very un-Fisher Price-like parts, as you're going to be wailing away on that rocker switch and those fret buttons for many hours, thousands and thousands and thousands of times, in rapid succession. This is not "cheap" build quality. The drums need to be even more solid, as you're hitting them with more force.
You can tell cheap controllers apart... in that they suck, and tend to break quite easily. These are not they.

- dafragsta, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2First of all, game controllers typically cost $30-40 these days and have been in the $30 pricepoint for some time. That's $120 goddamn dollars right there in controllers. It's not like your regular 360 controller is made from quilted maple either. Throw in your average price for a new XBOX 360 game. ($60) and that's $180. Technically you are coming out $20 ahead for a game that'll get played by most people who buy it, more than any game they own. Mech Assault was $200 and only came with one (big) controller.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Steel Battalion, not Mech Assault. But we know what you mean. ^_^ I'd still like to pick that up on the cheap someday just to see what it's like.
- ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2You're an ill-informed little guy, aren't you?
- Blackbow, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Can't Wait. PS3 wireless FTW! I'd love to have LIVE functionality, but MS blew it with their proprietary wireless control issues.
- youMISERABLEpos, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Like I said, I won't be getting it..
BUT, XboxLive over wire will forever > PS3 wireless online- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0For now? Maybe. (It depends on what Harmonix themselves have coded.) Certainly coordinating with people on your Friend list is easier, but I don't think that will be the bulk concern of your online experience with the game.
Forever, though...? As much as I don't have much faith in Sony's software programming, that still only goes from "maybe" to "likely." MS has a habit of letting things stagnate, though... We'll see who wins out. ;-)
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0For now? Maybe. (It depends on what Harmonix themselves have coded.) Certainly coordinating with people on your Friend list is easier, but I don't think that will be the bulk concern of your online experience with the game.
- diggrim, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3and proprietary hard drive :(
- youMISERABLEpos, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Like I said, I won't be getting it..
- DrAcUlA212, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1This is where its good to have friends. If you have 3 friends, you can split the cost of the game, since you can only play it together anyway. $170/4 is $42.50 each. cheaper than any other game.
- ricky125, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0I agree, because buying a game for $60.00 and splitting the cost makes no since at all.
- diggrim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1if you play it online and your 2 friends have consoles it'll cost (170+60+60)/3 = $82.50 per person...not too bad if it is that fun (and not laggy).
- pidge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'd be interested in this if it had more mainstreams songs. Or if you could purchase songs online. There are only like a couple of songs I actually like off of this game.
- ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6You want MORE mainstream tracks? Good God, branch out a little.
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You will be able to purchase songs online (although probably not for the PS2 version).
- Philoushka, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4ps2 and online don't belong in the same sentence.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Which is why it's been online for quite some time now?
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I bet they'll have a setup online for the PS2 to buy songs. The Socom franchise eventually broke out with downloadable maps, don't see why they couldn't do something like that with this game.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Me guess would be the memory card limitations and the speed of data transfer to properly stream the music and data. While I don't know the file sizes they'll use in Rock Band, I can't imagine they'd be particularly "svelte," and those 8MB cards would get overwhelmed pretty quick.
Now if they could work out support for a USB key or the like...

- iirrkk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Come out from under your rock, this game has way more good good songs than any of the other guitar hero games.
- FlyinWhee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You know you're cool when you ask for MORE of anything mainstream.
Can't get enough of Fox News myself.
- koach, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3So I am excited.....kind of...
I mean...$170 isn't too bad and all, but what about the people who didnt WANT the $30 mic or the $60 guitar? I mean...this is a game that is boasting about online presence and the ability to play with all your friend across the Internet. Yet...they sell you all 3 "controllers." Not everyone is buying this to have 3 of their friends actually come to their house and play with them.
My idea? Make 4 SKU's!
Keep the $170 All-In-One Bundle, but also have 3 additional packages that include the game and one of the "controllers." This will vary the overall cost and let consumers purchase based on what they want to do with the game. If they buy the Game+Mic package for $70 and later want to get the drums, then let them do so separately.
I guarantee that there will be ALOT of people who are forced to buy the whole deal and never even unwrap the microphone.- ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I said this already, in much fewer words:
"They need to make game and single instrument bundles available. I just want the drums. $99.99 seems reasonable."
But at least we agree. - cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They may make some others available, but it's a pain in the ass for retailers and stock tracking and the like. You HAVE to support selling the instruments separately, as well as the game, so... What you're basically saying is that they ALSO have to support selling each controller+game bundle, too. That's not creating 4 SKU's. They already have 6 packages to support: game, wired guitar, wireless guitar, drums, mic, and the $170 bundle. You're essentially suggesting they go to 10 packages. That doesn't seem nutty to you?
The EASIEST thing for them to do would be to have bundle pricing, where if you pick up a particular controller and game at the same time, you save $10 or $20 or $30 or so. Otherwise, the only place I expect to see any kind of additional bundling is through their online store. Retailers would be terribly confused by 10+ options, and would hate trying to stock that. (Especially since it will be jockeying for position with GH3. For ALL SYSTEMS.) - Keeb13r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I guess some of you lack reading comprehension skills - because you can clearly buy the game and an instrument separately (check any listing of this game on any website)...
- ClarkNoHeart, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I said this already, in much fewer words:
- Reeonimus, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1170 is a reasonable price considering you are getting 4 peripherals with it. A controller costs what nowadays? 40 bucks. You are essentially getting 4 modified controllers and a game, which is my case living with 3 other buddies of mine will work out well in splitting on it. And if you want you CAN use your existing guitar hero 2 controller, you just can't take advantage of the 5 new frets. You will eventually be able to buy just the peripherals as well. So don't cry.
- binaryspiral, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6PS2 version too!?
Friggin' sweet! - ejaywillie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Any self respecting Guitar Hero fan will have a 360 wireless guitar by the time Rock Band rolls via GH 3.
- Philoushka, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1thanks for the heads up. I was looking forward to RB without even knowing that GH3 was coming out so soon!
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Who says the controllers are compatible?
- FlyinWhee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Harmonix says. Which is a pretty decent source, I'm told.
- FlyinWhee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Harmonix says. Which is a pretty decent source, I'm told.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I'd think most people would be wanting to wait, though, as the Rock Band controllers will be different and have unique features for Rock Band specifically. GH controllers will be compatible, but why wouldn't you simply wait to get the BETTER controller? (I'm not positive about GH3's support for the Rock Band guitars, but I rather assume they communicate similarly.)
- rude0197, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Harmonix has gone on record stating that RB guitars will be backward compatible, however no promises are FIRMLY being made the other way. In fact RedOctane has built its company at selling new accessories.
- expat001, on 10/10/2007, -6/+11Or you could just do it in real life.
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2But I already sit around playing guitar all day in a studio, I want to come home and do it on my 360 as well!
- dafragsta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Well Sparky, you could also slap on some pads and go get hit in "teh Face" by some bigass football player too. I guess you could always spend years and thousands of dollars training for and becoming a race car driver. It's a goddamn video game. Even real musicians dig Guitar Hero ... a whole ***** lot.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -3/+4Ugh.. I was never going to buy Rock Band because I don't have friends but... come on. The premise itself implies that a single person shouldn't have to be paying for the entire isntrument line up. If someone wanted that much stuff they should be able to buy it all for a combined price of 170, but when you force everyone to pay that you ignore the fact that the type of people playing together are each gonna have a copy most likely. It's just... lame. Choice is good.
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can buy the pieces seperate if you want, though.
- RST1123, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2November 23rd is my Birthday! It's even in my user name!
- doubleo7, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Who gives a *****.
- shagg187, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Now all i need to know is how old you are, and i can get your password... :)
- FlyinWhee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2OMG THAT'S SO COOL!
...yeah.
- xlar54, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4Lame. Ya'll be sure to put away your pokemon cards and dungeons and dragons when youre done too.
- dafragsta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1In my experience, it's been jackasses who make stupid inaccurate generalizations about people who play video games that end up bucking the trend to play Guitar Hero and such.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2This is awesome... However (listen up Harmonix) : currently the package only includes a wireless guitar and wired drums/mic. I want wireless everything, even if that means paying more then 170. Give me wireless drums/mic and ill pay an extra 30 bucks.
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Extra 30 bucks, extra 50 for batteries...
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1batteries? I had assumed the guitar would be Lithium ion, rechargeable via the usb port just like the normal PS3 controllers are... Who is still using batteries? well besides microsoft...
- freetyme, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3nintendo
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Sadly the only one with a good default wireless gamepad right now is Sony. Rechargable, and you just plug in any old mini USB cable to recharge or play tethered. MS has that $20 "play and charge" kit to add it to their regular wireless controller (or you can get a rechargable battery and charging station), and though I don't think Nintendo has a first-party solution, MadCatz makes a rechargable battery and docking station for $20. Kind of annoying.
Sadly, the wireless solution for the guitar controllers don't seem to have built-in rechargability in mind, as I would have expected. Even the PS3 one seems to have a USB dongle instead of just using Bluetooth, but that might be so they can keep to standards and retain interoperability with all previous GH controllers and other third parties. Seems dumb, though, as they could still support the standard AND let the PS3 controllers use Bluetooth as well. I was hoping for something that more resembled the stock PS3 controller, so you'd have built-in rechargeability and still be able to play it tethered if you hook up any old USB cord, but that does not appear to be the case.
Looks like we'll have to invest that extra $20 on picking up extraneous rechargeable batteries.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1batteries? I had assumed the guitar would be Lithium ion, rechargeable via the usb port just like the normal PS3 controllers are... Who is still using batteries? well besides microsoft...
- sneakerelph, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3why would you want a wireless drum setup? it's not like you'll be dancing around playing the drums.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3So there isnt a wire to trip over when someone is walking through the room
- RxDaniel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They deserve to trip if they walk between you and the TV in the middle of a game.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3So there isnt a wire to trip over when someone is walking through the room
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1damnit. bad assumption... Harmonix, axe the AA's!
- Kurisuku, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Extra 30 bucks, extra 50 for batteries...
- mkriss5681, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4I'd buy it if it was $120 bucks cheaper
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0So you'd buy a game and three music controllers only if it cost $10 less than every other game on the PS3 and 360? How noble of you.
- JasonQG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3For those of us wondering the best way to get everything on the 360 with the wired guitar:
360 bundle ($170) + wireless guitar ($80) = $250
Game ($60) + wireless guitar ($80) + drums ($80) + microphone ($30) = $250
Bundle's the way to go--free wired guitar, basically. Still would be better if there was a wireless bundle, though. - kball75, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You don't have to pay $160. That's for the whole set up. You can just buy the game if you already have the guitar. Or just buy the drums/game. I thought it was going to be $200 for the whole deal, $160 sounds ok. Especially considering I won't be buying any other games for a long time. They're going to have 18 Grateful Dead songs available, and Metallica albums. And all of Nevermind. It's going to be insane. Obviously if you can actually play an instrument, and are in a band, playing shows is better. Good for you. I know musicians who dig GH though, and football players like Madden, so I'm sure it would still be enjoyable.
I know I will be drinking beers and rocking when this comes out.- dafragsta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I've been playing guitar legitimately (meaning, not counting all those gradeschool years where I had a guitar and never knew any chords) for 18 years and I love Guitar Hero. I think it gives you a new perspective on timings and I've definitely picked up a few funky break rythms that I'd gotten down in the game really well, for when I actually play a guitar.
- sneakerelph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i think those albums you're talking about are downloadable. I'm not an expert at this, but i don't think the PS2 one will have downloadable content, with the lack of hard drive. there is a hard drive but it's not available anymore and it doesn't work for the Slim PS2. So you might be out of luck for those, unless you got a 360 or PS3
- dafragsta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1As they mentioned, launch is on black Friday. I'm definitely gonna preorder in early November.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Would it kill them to add some Lamb of God tracks?
- fLUx1337, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2$170? So thats around £85, plus all the UK taxes which will make it around £100 - ouch!!!
No ***** way am I going to pay that much for 1 game, when I can get 2.5 normal games retail, or 4 games from play-asia!! - eyefone, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Rock Band, Mario Galaxy, Brawl, R.I.P my wallet this holiday season
- trentasaurus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2What about the bass? I thought the game was drums/guitar/bass/microphone? Do you have to buy the bass separately or it doesn't exist and i'm an idiot?
- rooftopsuicide, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1your existing guitar from guitar hero will be the bass if you want, methinks.
don't have a guitar hero guitar?
YOU AREN'T READY FOR ROCK BAND!!! GRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAWWWWHHH! - cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0There's just the one kind of guitar controller (well, two... wired and wireless, but you know what I mean), and you use it for whatever part you're playing. It's not like they need to use thicker electronics or something for you to get the proper bass guitar sound out of it. ;-)
3rd party controllers will filter out eventually, and maybe one will have a more "bass-feeling" design (don't really know what that would be, myself. The Stratocaster and larger size RB's controllers are using seems like it'd be as good a fit as you're likely to get anyway), but otherwise offering wired and wireless options for TWO guitar shells... There's really no point. (And again, that would be hell on retail.)
Maybe they'll have more fun later on through their own website; they could introduce whatever designs they want and limited editions, etc, and see who's interested without having to make a huge retail investment.
- rooftopsuicide, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1your existing guitar from guitar hero will be the bass if you want, methinks.
- YoureAllSoDumb, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4Or.. learn to play the instruments for real, and actually have a chance at scoring with a girl!
I don't get the guitar hero fad. With how much devotion some people put towards it, they could be well on their way to learning to play a REAL guitar.- MoFoKeR, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2you hit that dead on...these are the same people who air guitar walking down the street...but do understand them that it is too hard to learn to play an instrument for them..oh well ..you think they go ga ga for that new karaoke game
- Smok3y, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, we've all heard this before.
Hey idiots, we don't want to play an instrument. We want to play a game. There's a difference. You can't even compare playing an instrument and playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Don't be so ignorant. - FlyinWhee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I play guitar, doesn't mean I can't enjoy a game about it, in fact quite the opposite.
I have to agree that some people really overdo it and should use that time to do something useful. But there's nothing wrong with the game and playing it from time to time.
- Almadiel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Had this previously announced for the PS2? That seems like the real news here. I'll probably go with just the guitar for now.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It was announced just last month in Leipzig, but to rather less fanfare both because it was at a European show, and because the PS2 version is unlikely to have either online play or downloadable content, which are two of the big things people are looking forward to from both Rock Band and GH3.
- Coolone84, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2And people say that console gaming is cheaper....
- InitialDMP5, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1when a powerhouse gaming computer costs 5000 dollars (HP blackbird, Alieware computers, custom) 399+169.99 does not equal 5000.00 dollars. So I would say that yes, Console gaming is cheaper.
But hey if you are a PC gamer and want to play Guitar Hero 3, its coming for the PC, and since you already spent your paltry thousands of dollars on your computer, 80 bucks shouldn't be too bad.- MoFoKeR, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1something a console gamer would say..but to correct you pc gamers build their rig for way cheaper under 1400.00..or even less if we use parts from the pc were replacing...hp? alienware? yeah only references a console head would have..you sir dont know squat about pc gamers so shut your pie hole.have a nice day
- toefer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yeah, shut your pie hole, because 1400 is clearly less than 570.

- casual7y, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5$170?
i sure hope we canadians pay that price too, given our dollar is the same - Bakuryu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Wii version comes out Dec 24 for $100....
- Dan11023, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3GREAT!!!! now where can I get 3 friends?
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You could always give them $170, too.
- TheGrizah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Uhhh Wii version?
- Smok3y, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Supposedly it has been said by HMX that a Wii version isn't out of the question, but nothing official yet.
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Nothing official yet, but it will no doubt be coming down the pipe.
- Smok3y, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Online is what's going to make this game, everyone seems to be completely forgetting it. Is there any news about PS2 version being online? My /guess/ is... no. =(
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Probably not. Nothing confirmed. Technically, I don't see what would be impossible about supporting online play, other than the PS2 having less-fleshed-out tools for online support. (Harmonix is certainly familiar with the platform, though.)
Many more technical obstacles would stand in the way of offering downloadable content though, I figure. Exclusion of one may also affect the "is it worth it?" decision on supporting the other, sadly. - rude0197, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Four years ago, Harmonix was able to make Amplitude for the PS2, an online two player co-op and competitve game so there is reason to believe they could do it with RB.

- DrGamez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, you're a quarter of the way there with just this one *free* comment!
- cthellis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Yeah, usually you just need a bottle of Jack.
- Keeb13r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Maybe it's just you and your friends who look like retards. Practice more?
- Twee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Holy ***** that's expensive.
