- meez, on 10/12/2007, -9/+499The black Xbox360's will have bigger drives than their white counterparts... mmm
- BrendanM14, on 10/12/2007, -15/+84original 360 is black (pause) NOT.
- Snakedal337, on 10/12/2007, -11/+73Can we please stop saying that on every GAMING thread?
Title: New Tetris Clone playable through flash!
Another nail in the PS3 coffin.
Were out of nails, and the coffin is full, k? Done. - SlackerCSB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59There is no HDMI output on the original 360.
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -11/+63*checks bank account*
Better start saving... - NeoCortex, on 10/12/2007, -5/+55While I like a black 360 better than my current one, the color isn't enough for a re-purchase. What I'm really interested in is the bigger hard drive and the cooler running temp, and hopefully quieter operation. If they have the hard drive available separately and give you some kind of way to transfer the data from your current 20GB, I'll pick that up. The only way I'm upgrading my entire premium system is if they offer some kind of trade-in that takes a couple hundred bucks off the price (I can dream, can't I).
- bbrosemer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+53As we all know from the MacBook this is the "Black Tax"
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43And you can (easily) equip a white Macbook to be functionally identical to the black one. The only difference is the $50 US Apple charged for the black paint job.
- aapala, on 10/12/2007, -6/+46Why not?? It was confirmed by unnamed sources. How could that possibly be a false claim?
- ipodsweatshop, on 10/12/2007, -20/+59Still no HD-DVD? So the thing is almost $700 with HD-DVD, and suddenly the PS3 is cheap....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45Ah yes "confirmed" by some random guy walking down the hallway and here's a picture of a dev kit. I'll confirm an xbox 360 with flying butt monkeys.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32He's not just giving it away for free. You have to forward an email around to as many friends as you can first. THEN you get your money.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+35CONFIRMED: Bill Gates giving every human on earth 1 million dollars.
I have confirmed with trusted sources. So it must be true. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26So when the headline says 'CONFIRMED' it really means 'QUESTIONABLE SCAN FROM APRIL (FOOL'S) ISSUE OF SECOND-RATE GAME MAGAZINE'.
Thanks for clearing that up. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -41/+66So the latest rundown of Digg retardia:
$500 PS3 = Too expensive
$600 iPhone = Not expensive
$480 XBOX 360 = Not expensive
Wow, some masterminds are really at play here. - sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26How on EARTH is that the nail in the PS3 coffin? I own a 360 myself (and have a distaste for Sony as of late), but... this upgrade doesn't make the 360 look too great.
$20 more for a PS3 that has a HD disc player in it, and $680 total for a 360 with an HD-DVD drive. The only hardware advantage it has over the PS3 once you take the "Elite" 360 + HD-DVD add-on is 60 GB of HD space. And it's $80 more.
Tons of PS3 detractors cited it's price as the biggest factor against it, and now a tricked out 360 is $80 more than the PS3. - kodek, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28There's a downside to this: As HDMI becomes the preferred interface, movies will be able to force the ICT flag. Right now, the xbox's lack of HDMI is helping keep the ICT away from movies. Let me just quote the Wiki:
"Also, the Microsoft Xbox360 game console, for which there is a HD-DVD add-on available, is only capable of analog non-HDCP-connections. If ICT would be forced, Microsoft's flagship console (note that MS is integral part of the HD-DVD camp, currently providing the VC-1 codec that is used in over 90% of all HD-DVD releases) would only be able to display a quarter of the actual resolution of the media, so movie studios are apparently in agreement to not include the ICT flag on any HD DVDs or Blu-ray Discs in the immediate future."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCP - gage006, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28No hd-dvd built in?
No wifi built in?
Meh...i'll pass. I'll just pick up the new hard drive when they sell it separately. - Inferno52386, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure the 499US PS3 does not have built in wifi.
I'd much rather use a hard wired set up anyways, but that's just me.
Also, I think you are missing the point of the black 360. Aren't they releasing the new system mainly due to their IPTV they are working on? That was the whole reason I was ready to trade my old one in for a new one. again, correct me if I'm wrong here. - Disodium, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25why does everyone include the HDDVD drive? I for one dont give a flying crap about HDDVD or Blue Ray since i dont have a HDTV, even if i did its not enough of a difference to warrent the cost. I like how i'm not forced to buy into HDDVD if i dont want to
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -24/+41You're comparing the lowest-end PS3 ($500) versus the highest-end Xbox 360 ($480) and you think you're making some kind of an intelligent point?
Nice try. You should be a lawyer.
P.S. EVERYONE thinks that the iPhone is overpriced. Way to keep in touch with reality, bud. - Wildthing, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24360 is NOT black!
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22not me.
Yes, the improved hardware is tempting, but I prefer white to black.
Plus if I ever get the HD-DVD addon, I want it to match my 360, not make an inversed oreo cookie (with my Wii). - gage006, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22Because i'm not a huge fan of a cable running all across my house. I also have no desire to crawl into my attic to hide it.
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16ICP: But that's IF it were forced. The studios for both formats have agreed to hold off till 2012 before enforcing any kind of flagged content for HDMI. So, basically, they gimped it at the last second and another generation of digital media gets to avoid this crap, thankfully.
Now if we can get one format, they'll actually start selling these things. I'm not touching either format till the other is either gone, or made irrelevant. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19"We've confirmed with trusted sources..."
This is NOT confimed! - craig4, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17since when is PS3 w/built in wifi only 500 dollars?
- jmdajr, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16I can live without it
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Well, that's about as reliable as the article and their unnamed sources.
- kodek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@canadiangeese:
VGA uses an analog signal (wiki: "Video Graphics Array (VGA) is an analog computer display standard first marketed in 1987 by IBM.") If they enable ICT to movies, and you're either using a non-hdcp-capable display or an analog connection, the movie will either fall back to below-DVD quality, or simply show an error message. - katanaswordfish, on 10/12/2007, -14/+23Heres what i don't understand: (I haven't taken part in this generations "console wars" so far, however, i do intend on buying one of the consoles at a later date.)
XBox 360 Premium (~$400) + HD-DVD drive (~$200) + 12-month XBox Live Subscription (~$50) = [$650]
Whereas,
PS3 (which has a built in Blu-Ray drive, and no subscription fees for online play) = [~600]
Now, i am completely impartial to all of the current consoles at the moment, because, in my opinion, none of them have nearly good enough software to even consider buying at this point. It seems to me like Microsoft is just splitting up the total cost of their product to make the illusion that it is cheaper than their competitor. The PS3 gets a lot of bad rep because of its cost but it almost seems more convenient to me too have the high-definition (HDDVD or Blu-Ray) built in to the console. - Jarett, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10@ilyag
The low end PS3 more closely matches the premium 360 in terms of features.
The both don't have WiFi. And both have 20GB drives.
It's a fair comparison (assumming the 20GB PS3's are still for sale). - CkMaverick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9According to the current population of earth (~6.7 billion) and Bill Gates' recent estimates of net wealth (~56 billion $US) he would only be able to give every person on the planet ~8.35 $US. Anybody wanna go bowling?
- murraj2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8From Article: "Elite models run cooler than normal 360s, but they are not yet confirmed to have 65nm chips."
- RayBan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11My brother bought a core package at launch and when playing Oblivion, the machine drowns out the sound of the nearby airport and all the planes that fly over, not to mention the actual game. My question is will this one quieter and not get so damn hot, because winter is over and I don't need it warming the room anymore, though I guess I can still use it to fry my eggs.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10"It's a fair comparison (assumming the 20GB PS3's are still for sale)."
It's a fair comparison irrespective of whether the PS3 is selling as it highlights the hypocrisy on Digg. They said the $500 PS3 was too expensive, now the similarly priced 360 is somehow cool? - NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Hmm, someone should mirror his comment and submit it to Digg as a story entitled, "CONFIRMED: Black Xbox 360 is NOT Limited Edition."
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Can anyone make sense of this?
The article states that the 360 Elite will be in limited quantities; after it has been sold out, the 360 Premium will have all the 360 Elite features sans the black color. I mean, doesn't it make sense to just wait until the 360 Elite sells out and then grab the 360 Premium (when it's updated to 120GB, HDMI, cooler cpu, etc. and has all the same features as the 360 Elite) at a $100 lower? - pooper, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Throw in a built-in HDDVD drive and I'll pay 600 cash...
- StateofMind09, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You read it wrong. Blu-ray has been outselling HD-DVD for quite some time. The effect of this is that it has surpassed it in sales since *inception*, since HD-DVD was on the market before Blu-ray.

? - Sliver85, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Unnamed "trusted sources" and just a picture of a dev kit. I'll wait for a real announcement from MS.
- postal21, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I want that 120 gig HD for my 360... my 20's mighty full of junk.
- GhostToon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I find it funny that more and more video game rumors are claimed to be "confirmed" the closer we get to April 1st. I don't consider anything confirmed until I hear it in a press release from Microsoft.
- MikeOSX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Dammit...I'm all out of HDMI inputs!
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"That is a stupid argument. I will gladly keep the $200 and get of my ass once in awhile and swap disks if the devs need more space."
Amen to that, I just finished installing vista off of my 7 thousand floppy disks. Then I played some Ninja Gaiden off my 3,000 floppies. But atleast I'm not blowing my money on a DVD player like you chumps.
In other news, you'll never need more than 64kb of RAM. - libertao, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Try reading the posts above you.
- shm0edawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5There will be an XBOX360 Black. But it won't be in limited quantities like the article suggests. You can take my word for it, or not. It's your choice.
- MScrip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How fast is your internet connection?
If it's anything less than 10Mbps... even 802.11b would be fine. A 100Mbps wired network in your house is nice... but when the pipe from outside is only 3Mbps...
Distance and latency are still problems with WIFI though... - dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I have a better question from this...
When's the 120GB drive shipping? I could give a crap about a black console, as I usually spend my time playing it instead of looking at it.
I want a bigger drive so I don't have to constantly mind my download habits and such. -
