If you don't have an HDTV, next gen is barely any farther ahead than current gen (but costs game developers much much much more money).

- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They did. The summary is poorly worded. CoD 3 on the PS3 has 24-man multiplayer, just like the 360. However, the PS3 version does not allow people using the *same* PS3 in split-screen to join an online match.
If the PS3 wasn't in such short supply, I would say, "Big whoop!" But I think the only way most of would play CoD 3 on the PS3 is on someone else's machine, until sometime next year (if the 360 launch is any indication). - GrayOne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why do we hate Sony more than Microsoft. I am a Microsoft fanboy (I actually *gasp prefer Windows to LinuxOS X) so it doesn't really bother me. Personally my hate for Sony comes from Blu-Ray (not sticking with the DVD Forum) and Memory Stick. Betamax, Atrac, Minidisc, SDDS, SACD, "U"MD, fictious movie reviewers, rootkits, EXPLODING BATTERIES, destroying Bleem, graffiti advertising, and the general piss in your face attitude doesn't bother me as much.

If COD 3 is better on the 360 than the PS3 then the fault lies at the developers for doing a pathetic job or porting a 360 game to the PS3. - pathy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well, the games WILL look better in standard res than they would on the old consoles. Simply becaue of better resolution textures, more shader effects, etc. You don't need high resolution to enjoy these things.
Of course, if you don't want to buy a new super expensive HD-TVT, you could always hook whatever console you have up to your monitor and enjoy it, just not on a huge screen.

If I was allocating precious PS3 dev kits, I think I would provide them to developers coding original IP's on the PS3 rather than porting 360 games to it. I'm not sure how you can argue that hd graphics aren't next gen. If you don't have an hdtv then you are right...but there is not much microsoft or sony or nintendo can do about that as it is a limitation of your tv.

- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wouldn't the next gen just refer to the next generation of that specific console? so the ps3 is next gen of the ps2 and the 360 of the xbox. whether it's as much a monumental leap from the previous consoles, that's the question. since the xbox was the first console for xbox there is no frame of reference for it. however since we've had the original PS, and then the PS2 we can judge how much a increment it was between them. then can we say it is as much a leap from the PS2 to the PS3? if we can than it's a true next generation for that system.

Regardless of whether you're a 360 or PS3 fanboy I think the key to placing the 360 and Xbox Live in their respective 2nd or 3rd place is the Sony Online Network. If the service is truly free, then you will see a mass defection of people from Xbox live. After all, who wants to pay $50-$70 a year for Xbox Live Gold when you get it for free with a PS3. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2

The game was obviously written for the 360 and then ported quickly to the PS3 to meet the launch window. The game isn't even optimized for the PS3. It's essentially a 360 game running on a PS3.
