- phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23I think this really isn't halo 3 news... but I'll digg it because the graphs were interesting.
- eastbeast314, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Halo has one thing that PC shooters don't: split screen.
Being able to punch your friends after they kill you is infinitely more fun that typing "u got pwned noob!!!one". LAN parties are great - though are much easier to set up with Xboxes. - ricodued, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13God forbid they actually finish a trilogy they started some years ago rather than just leave every gamer hanging and move on to a new project.
- phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Did you even know that a lot of people who play Halo don't ONLY play halo? I play halo, but yes, I do play Half life, counterstrike, doom, and so on. I have no idea why there is so much negativity towards this game. Its a great game just like a whole bunch of others, I think YOU'RE the one that needs to give it a chance.
- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Halo may not be the best, but its a great and fun game. The story is great (albiet, slightly cliched at some points), the gameplay is the BEST on a console (no other FPS comes close on consoles), and the graphics have been great time and time again. What more do you need?
You're sitting there comparing it to a PC, but that isnt fair at all. Halo isnt a PC game, its a console game. And as a console game, its one of the best.
Bara out - CopyNinja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If you want good HALO storyline, read the books! There are 3 out with a 4th one coming out soon.
- Aurarch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5heh I can support that... my brother bought the books and I just happened to read a bit...
- Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6All FPSes have flaws. You think they don't, you're a fanboy.
- ApocalypseTrol, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8While you may feel that Halo is "generic" I think it still provides what people want the most: fun. I enjoyed Half-Life and Doom as much as anyone, but there is nothing like hooking up four Xbox console on a Friday night and having fun with your friends and that for me was the major selling point of Halo.
- virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Were the books that good? i started reading the Fall of Reach, but didn't have time to finish it. I did like the way it was written though, and, from what I read, it gives great back story!
- GunFingers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"You know, there are a lot better games out there than Halo. Halo is a generic first person shooter. Try playing the original Half-Life, or get involved in the story of Max Payne, or go and play the original Doom. Of course, this is digg, where the majority of users are young and immature, and don't realize all the great games that came out when they were just a little kid.
Halo may be newer and more recent, but it's not the best. I only wish the fanboys realized this."
Translation - Hey, everybody here in this Halo thread! Here, let me piss in your cornflakes! - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Overrated does not mean terrible. Terrible means terrible. Halo's a fun game, but it's hardly revolutionary.
- snipes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm itching to read the 4th.
- Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Sounds almost like they're at alpha. Feature & art locks will follow, then beta.
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Honestly compared to Halo, Halflife is the definition of generic. It uses all the same old weapons style that every other game has used since Doom. The gravity gun is cool for a while but that's the only original element in Halflife.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They didn't start a trilogy, they made a game.
Halo 3 is coming because Halo 2 made an assload of money and because 360 needs it as an exclusive, not becuase some magic of threes.
Watch when Halo 4 rolls around... - TrainwreckX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Alpha this early is highly unlikely. And in MOST alpha settings, the alpha is actually the feature lock, that's what mainly defines it. Art complete is usually a few weeks before beta, and beta itself is code complete.
Then you just bug bash until you get a good Gold Release Candidate until you have reduced the number of severe bugs to none, and have only small ones left in the game.
Then it goes to MS for testing (in another location where they put like 100 testers on one game for a couple days straight). They find as many bugs as they can. If they don't find any severe ones and they say it meets all the license requirements, then your game is ready to be manufactured.
Just wanted you to know it is a bit more complicated than you made it out to be. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont like the graph where they say lockout is the favorite. In matchmaking, players do not get to choose the favorites. Most of the people I know like Zanzibar a lot more than say Midship. I bet at least half of the people online have never played a real game in Waterworks. Waterworks is hella fun for some things, like rockets, but you need a lot of people. I haven't gotten waterworks online since maybe a month after release, and the same goes for Zanzibar, but my friends tell me you can get Zanibar every once in a while, but only in CTF.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Near the bottom of the article the information about Halo 3 can be found (specifically how they are doing the vehicles from the ground up or something).
Either way, though its many flaws (mostly cheaters), Halo 2 is still a great fun game to play. "Big Team Battle Skirmish" is just about the greatest thing to happen to their latest update.
Gamertag = PacoDG (Still representin "www digg com" clan! Join now) - Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's funny I just finished applying for a job at Bungie and then I come to Digg to see this. They're really staffing up for Halo 3 so you can be assured it's not nearly complete.
- Sithlrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I happened to catch the local Microsoft Games rep at EB this week. She said that they planned on announcing Halo3 release date to coincide with the PS3 release untill they heard the outrageous price they were asking for the damn PS3.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thank you, nodren, it was an after-edit remark refferring to my previous post. why is everyone digging it down?
- kleger, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7so your opinion of the halo series relates to this news how...?
- sleepless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You want halo 3 news... here is some...
http://gamevideos.com/video/id/4114 - HPSauce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, it's a non-news news article! But it has Halo 3 in it, dugg!
- Nodren, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3@Phyltre
if you read the comment above his, the guy edited the comment, he was referring to what was previously written - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Here's the major milestone:
They've already determined where in the storyline they're going to give up on actually making a complete game and either start making you backtrack through levels or just hold a freeze-frame and roll credits.
Thanks to new techniques, they've been able to reach this milestone much earlier in the schedule on Halo 3 than they did on Halo 1 or 2. - windex99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Halo 2 was the worst game i've ever played.
- RestlessDream, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yeah...that's quite true...Halo 3 is just ready to hit...no kidding
- Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I loved the "Waaaahmbulance" things towards the end of the article. Really says a lot about the kinds of people who play Halo.
- drummer1189, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol so their plan was to help squish ps3's sales, good thing ps3 is going to do that for itself now, maybe well get the game earlier
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This 'milestone' is merely an abitrary excuse to hype the game. *yawn*
FWIW, I'll consider a major milestone accomlished when they actually ship...
Also.... the static widgets on Bungie's site are quite annoying. - dj4site, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Unless they can get rid of the lag and cheating that infest almost every game of Halo2 they can keep it.
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Homer puts on a pair of glasses:
"The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side."
"That's a right angle triangle you idiot!" - Anagrama, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@ CypherXero:
I understand your point, but when commenting on a story about the progress on a popular game, I think your negativity is a little unneeded. If you don't like the game, fine. Why read (or did you just want to complain?) an article about something that does not interest you?
I for one, enjoyed Halo and am looking forward to a hopefully satisfying conclusion to the series. And the graphs were nice. - BlackCow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I would be more exited about this if they were makeing Halo 3 for the PC. I kno they are making halo 2 for PC now but im a little bit pissed off that they stay one behind. Why do they love Xbox so much, the controles suck, the multiplayer isent as good, and you cant have a lot of players in one game becase their are no servers. I guess thats all my opinion I dunno, I think they should set up a system where Xbox 360s and PCs can all connect to the same server. But then that would mess up their little system of user created games and not servers.
- Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7My only wish is for blatant ignorance to disappear from mankind. But apparently that won't be happening anytime soon.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1ughh... no, that's completely false
- ludz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Can you show us a link to this? I don't remember reading it.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Oh, I see. The cure for MS taking my money and not giving me the right amount of story is to give more money to MS.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Marathon 1, 2 and Infinity all did better on this front. Myth 1 & 2 were pretty good too. Then MS buys Bungie and they suddenly can't finish a game? Oni had a weak story and Halo 1 and 2 had half stories.
Meanwhile, Half-Life 1 and 2 both do a lot better job. Including Counter-Strike as part of Half-Life 2 (my pack did), some might call Half-Life 2 flawless.
Just because Halo has a particular problem doesn't mean it can't be done right. My criticism is valid. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8after edit: intersting part of article:
"only to discover I have forgotten the layout of Burial Mounds and the cool new weapon I just got used to, isn't in Halo 2…"
SOOO suspenseful... i definitely can't wait now (just about crushed the mouse in my hand... computer mouse, that is) - inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5I haven't followed Bungie's games since they sold their soul to Microsoft, but do they do any other games besides Halo anymore? Sort of sad that the same company behind some incredibly inventive titles like Marathon, Myth and Oni have become Halo 24/7. Maybe they should change their company name to Halo, Inc.
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3From what I have heard, the game is pretty much complete. If you read the older news way back in january, he said it was almost ready to ship.
- Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4fudged, do you read every bit of news on Halo 3 as having "dual rocket launchers" as a hidden meaning?
The news blurb mentioned a new weapon, and you somehow defaulted to dual rocket launchers without any prompting at all. Does that strike you as odd? - Dakoman, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9"And in other video news, the HD QuickTime we had of our Behind the Scenes documentary is also in the land of codec hell. If we get the thing fixed, we'll repost, but in the meantime, we have an excellent WMV HD version available right now, which is actually smaller and more streamlined. So you should just use that."
is more interesting. you woulda never guessed they're with microsoft? no? - CalPaterson, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Same company, almost entirely not the same developers.
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2Unless this is something about a release date, this just isn't news at all. Get this ***** off the front page.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -23/+10imagine how amazing this will look on the 360 in HD.... I am drooling allready
mostly because of my HDTV - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4duel-weilding rocketlaunchers? doesn't sound like it... sounds more like a new weapon altogether, but double rocket launchers would be sweet
