Brand new trailer for Unreal Tournament 3 -released with press announcement
destructoid.com — We all no know that the Unreal Tournament 2007 game was renamed to Unreal Tournament 3, but here's the brand new trailer showing it off. The guns look as good as ever, but the enemies look even more detailed than in the past. After today's events it is also rumored that the game will release this Christmas. Enjoy!

- steven401, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Yeah, YouTube is nice for hosting high quality videos.
Here's a better quality one:

You might need the FLV player you can get from here:
http://www.download.com/FLVPlayer/3000-2139_4-10413461.html - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Yes, very nice, and I'm betting UT3 will sell more on 360 than PS3.
...and it will simply be another slap, another simple proof that these kind of games just make more sense on the 360 than the PS3. Hey, I'm not being a fanboy -- but they're all in it for the money, and right now money's on Wii60.
Can't wait for this game.... but I'm getting on PC, anyway!!! - Bean945, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Lovely stuff
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2This was much more interesting yesterday when it made the front page via IGN.
- ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14This game will play like ***** with a 360 controller. It's way too fast-paced, and many weapons require very thorough precision. In fact, UT is probably the fastest-paced FPS game franchise in history..
Better hope they release a demo over Live Marketplace, if for no other reason than to test out the controls and see if you can handle this game with joysticks. - krypnos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@steven401
Thanks for the link. I don't know that there is an FLVPlayer port for the Linux/BSD/etc users out there, but it works great in mplayer or vlc for me. - Vouksh, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3Only 2 words can describe this game:
Skeet Skeet!
(I'll prolly be dugg down, but oh well) - RogerH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Don't get me wrong--it looks amazing, I just wish they'd stop making things so dark and make a more colorful game like the original UT.
Reminds me of the latest VGCats comic:
http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=224 - zybch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I wish people would stop with the "you'll need FLV Player" *****.
Such a ***** crap player I have never before seen.
Just get the latest klite codec pack and you can use media player or MP Classic to playback .flvs. - mazza558, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I find it amusing that it states "from the creators of Gears of War", when the Unreal series is Epic's flagship series.
- shredswithpiks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ilyag
"In fact, UT is probably the fastest-paced FPS game franchise in history.."
well... that's definitely debatable. I do agree that the 360 controller is going to suck for this game, though :) - Devz0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"We all no know that the Unreal Tournament 2007 game was renamed to Unreal Tournament 3"
Well, _I_ knew.. - Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"This game will play like ***** with a 360 controller. It's way too fast-paced, and many weapons require very thorough precision. In fact, UT is probably the fastest-paced FPS game franchise in history"
In my own experience (coming from a background of PC FPS games, getting sick of upgrading and buying a 360) its adjusting to the controls of a FPS has been the opposite. I can trail and hit headshots on a running target in Far Cry or a moving target in FEAR (I know there is some sort of auto aim happening but most of the time my actual crosshairs are over the head when I fire or I do a lead shot) on the 360 much better than I can line up a scoped weapon in a slower paced game like Ghost Recon. The lengthier times screw me up ... maybe my reflexes are set to the mouse keyboard which is traditionally faster than the controller and I'm overaiming? Course some of it is individual games interface.
Either way I want to play a demo of any FPS before I buy it on the 360 ... I'm still a little wary of the console controls over a M/KB. - SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I find it amusing that it states "from the creators of Gears of War", when the Unreal series is Epic's flagship series."...
I'm sorry to say, not anymore. Gears of War is the highest grossing and best selling Epic game ever made. I may share your sentiment for Unreal, but I also recognize the fact is that this trailer is marketing, and they are marketing to the millions of Gears players that may not even heard of Unreal Tournament, but found Gears to be an amazing game and will be willing to try UT3 since it's made by a dev that they now associate with amazing games. Hence "From the people that brought YOU Gears of War". - Aquashark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@iylag
"UT is probably the fastest-paced FPS game franchise in history.."
proabably not! Quake series, Painkiller, Warsow leave it in the dust when compared as speed..
but UT has an original gameplay of its own, so i it's all good.. - Phatt138, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"You might need the FLV player you can get from here"

- cloakeddagger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Really looking forward to playing this one on my linux machine.... without needing wine :P
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I wish more game developers were like iD and Epic.
- shredswithpiks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I completely agree... I've never understood why more developers aren't porting things over to be played natively in linux, especially since ubuntu and fedora have done such a great job at popularizing the platform for lots of home users...
- counterplex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I completely agree! I, too, prefer being sober when playing any game - it tends to make the experience more enjoyable and the challenges easier to solve.

- pastaq, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3 I hate that announcer guy. He makes the whole thing seem campy.
- tr0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19You should probably stop playing then. The announcer is so popular that he is used in mods for other games such as Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat. I love that voice. M-M-M-M-Monster kill!
- thiagoleon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I agree with tr0n, there are some few games that the announcer makes the difference. Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat are other classic examples.
- steven401, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Original woman UT1999 intro announcer FTW.
- Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"Original woman UT1999 intro announcer FTW."
The 'Sexy' announcer voice in UT2004 wasn't bad either... :P - pauleku, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3It the movie announcer guy!
- pastaq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I meant for the *actual* clip, the guy who does all the fox previews and whatnot. I like the in-game dude ffs.
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1i agree with you. i don't know how people can stand the unreal announcer.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Unreal Tournament had a story?
huh.- halobender, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Gonna sound stupid but the first UT had a story. Some kind of crash landed on alien planet thing. Generic, much like Halo.
- treed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Are you thinking of Unreal? Because UT's story is quite different. It involves a sport arising out of the mining industry.
- BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4unreal was the halo of 1998. to this day it's still excellent definitely worth the 5 bucks if you see it in a bargain bin somewhere.
- halobender, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Whoops my bad think more like running man generic.
- Tarmanydyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sorry, but comparing Unreal to Halo is an insult to Unreal.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1So Halo 3 and UT are arriving around the same time? Battle of the FPS for holiday 2007 :p
- counterstriker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Does anyone know if UT3 will use Direct X 9 or Direct X 10?
- Step1Mark, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6my guess is open GL like hey have used in the past. that way it plays on PS3, Linux and mac easier
- DeepDoo, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4also, unlike M$, they have no need to sell an OS by using DX10 for artificial reasons so they would want to make it work on the widest platform available so as to sell the most copies.
- cinnix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4DirectX 9, Mark Rein answered that question in an interview once.
- j_bellone, on 10/12/2007, -12/+13"also, unlike M$, they have no need to sell an OS by using DX10 for artificial reasons so they would want to make it work on the widest platform available so as to sell the most copies."
Because you used "M$" you obviously have no credibility on the subject and therefore should never post again. Thank you. - BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7they'll do multiple 3d APIs like they always have, opengl, dx9 and maybe dx10 as well.
and my guess is that the opengl renderer will be slow as hell compared to the others on windows, like with 2003 and 2004. - tapo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Jbellone: You just demonstrated argumentum ad hominem! Instead of countering DeepDoo's point that DirectX is simply to keep people locked into a Microsoft platform, you've decided to ignore his argument completely simply because he used the slightly childish M$. Good job!
This is of course, forgetting that the PS3 exclusively uses a variant of OpenGL 2.0 ES and that Unreal Tournament 3 will be using it on the platform. And considering that the Xbox 360 only supports DirectX 9, we're looking at a DX9 game. Besides, making it DX10 would restrict it to Windows Vista gamers only.
From Wikipedia:
(Latin: "argument to the person", "argument against the man") consists of replying to an argument by attacking or appealing to the person making the argument, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem - stratdog25, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1and here I thought Ad Homonyms were Ads that sounded the same but were for different things!!!!
- BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1unless things have changed in the past few months digg is not the place to call people out on the ad hominem thing, far too many people are far too judgemental or immature to care.
anyway, pick your battles, for instance getting people to digg comments based on their quality and not simply because they are of differing or similar opinion. - shredswithpiks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Besides, making it DX10 would restrict it to Windows Vista gamers only."
I thought we were informed that there would be a DX10 compatibility thingy so DX10 games would play in XP (using DX9 methods, of course)... ???
- Tuplex, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Release was said to be Q2 2007... Not Christmas. Get your ***** facts straight, bub.
- citrusfizz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i am pretty sure they said second half of 2007 not second quarter
- Maluu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You forgot halo/halo2! Killtacularamanjarofrenzyface!!!
But yeah...that guy's voice is only good for movie trailers, it sounds retarded in a video game trailer. Video game trailers shouldnt even have an announcer, just dramatic scenes and stuff. Halo 3 Trailer FTW!!- xerus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Video game trailers should just have people actually playing the game... I hate how every video game now tries to be an epic movie. :I
- omegamouse, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2but does it blend?
- DeepDoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21why are they calling it Unreal Tournament 3?
1 Unreal Tournament
2 Unreal Tournament 2003
3 Unreal Tournament 2004
unless I am not doing my math right.- GeneralBison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was just about to post about that. He's right you know, someone doesn't know their Epic!
- pauleku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6they were originally gonna release one every year - like madden - but I guess they figured out that (like madden) you cant make a good game in just one year. Plus it cant be different enough.
- DeepDoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I didnt even mention Unreal Championship for the XboX
- Step1Mark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5UT03 turned into UT04... you were able to trade in your key to get 20 bucks off UT04. so in some sense, it's an expansion.
- BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think it's some strange confusion about it running on the unreal engine 3.
either that or they just ignored ut2003 because it was nowhere near as good as the original or 2004.
unreal chapionship is not unreal tournament, just as neither of them are unreal. - Van3ck, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1The game is not referred to as UT3... the new engine is called UT3, and many games are already utilizing it on several different platforms... even GoW if I'm not mistaken.
I think the submitter is a bit confused. - Rosco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ Van3ck
RTFA, watch the video.
The engine is called UE3, the game is now called "Unreal Tournament 3" - stratdog25, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It might be called UT3 because there's a story line that takes place after Unreal II: the Awakening? Got, it but didnt play it.
- shredswithpiks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"UT03 turned into UT04... you were able to trade in your key to get 20 bucks off UT04. so in some sense, it's an expansion."
UT04 was more like an apology for UT03... but yeah, it works like this
1) Unreal Tournament
2) Unreal Tournament 2004
3) Unreal Tournament 3
... lets forget UT03 ever happened...
(also worth noting: The Unreal franchise and storyline doesn't have much to do with the Unreal Tournament storyline... not that the Unreal Tournament "storyline" is anything more than a superficial reason to explain the motifs used in the game, anyway...) - SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's because the yeared games were just a multiplayer portion. This is single player and multi, so they call it UT3. It's also because the story is set in like 2091 or whatever, so calling it 2007 in the title would be lame and confusing. It's fine to call a strictly multiplayer game by years, because then it's just like NHL 2007 or Madden 2007.
- suicidal-kid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And besides, UT2k7 just sounds cooler.
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18What about a PC release? Consoles suck for FPS.
- littlesaint, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1You're right. Gears of War sucks!
/sarcasm - ShadowSwan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8gears of war Third Person Shooter
UT3 First Person Shooter - neko, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8You're right. Gears of War sucks!
(absence of sarcasm)
- littlesaint, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1You're right. Gears of War sucks!
- omegamouse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1id hit it
- Tuplex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can't believe how little digg users know about this game.
- wonderworm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg users are geeks, not gamers. To the uninformed they may seem like strongly overlapping circles but they are not.
- gavroche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Itought it was Ureal Tournament 4 by now.
- PleaseJustDie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2UT2k3 doesn't count, it was a huge unfinished mess which is why Epic released UT2k4 so soon after 2k3 to address all the issues 2k3 had, 2k4 is actually like Unreal Tournament 2.5
- PleaseJustDie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I need this game... every time I see something about it I want it... its like a cocaine addiction... I need my fix...
- Flinty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9High-Def trailer : http://ut-3.com/files/other/unreal_12507_wmvhd.wmv.torrent
- steven401, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks.
- statix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1u have the hidef as a direct download?
- sprag80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm still playing UT. I love the freakin game. And I'll play UT3 on my PC with mouse and keyboard. I can't wait.
- pEEpiNgtoM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Will be best on PC of course for controls but shouldnt be bad on the consoles
As far as in order of controls alone
PC > 360 > PS3 - basselope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice trailer (as best I can tell in the low res sample), but nice trailers don't always represent the in-game graphics.
For those unfamiliar, here are some very old sample shots showing the potential of the Unreal3 engine.
http://www.unrealtechnology.com/html/technology/ue30.shtml
now think about the actual in-game graphics from game already using the engine.
A still pic is one thing, dynamic rendering is another. - Fhwqhgads, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal Tournament 2007.
I count 4, not 3.- ShadowMarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Unreal, Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal Tournament 2007... Unreal Tournament 3? Someone think of the logical progression!
- shredswithpiks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Unreal, Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal Tournament 2007... Unreal Tournament 3? Someone think of the logical progression!"
you're out of order... unreal then unreal tourny!
and see above comments from lots of people explaining the 2k3/2k4 fiasco.
- NipGrip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Is this the release that makes the game fun?
- AlienX3.5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was thinking of getting an xbox 360 just for gears of war, UT3, and gears of war but then i realized i would even get it just for UT3 (not ps3 cause too expensive for me) alone. that's when i remembered how fast-paced it is which is why i love it...but with a controller that sux. UT3 was made for pc and is best on pc. Now i am worried they adjusted the game so that it's less fast-paced just so it not as difficult to play with a controller.
- giid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Now here's the question. Do us PC users get to beat up on xbox 360 players online? That might make the 360 version... not fun. :)
- Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I envy the man who can score a Holy-*****-*****-*****-*****-***** in the game settings.
- xerus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont. I'll just frag them while theyre busy being distracted by giant lens flares and bloom effects.
- Gir53457, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Finally, another gamer who sets graphics to super low quality to play online games. (Hint: Turn off HDR/Bloom and lower the textures and focus on AA and character detail in CSS for greater pwnage.)
- WhiteLush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0BAI BAI PS3
- spyd3rweb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3*yawn* this will come out and i'll still play UT99, come frag on my server 82.165.146.54:7777
- theenginedriver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We all no know? I've seen some good butchering of english in my day, but that is superb technique.
- Sculptor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The mods are the thing. The creativity and fantastic range of experiences available with the community made levels, skins, voice packs, etc. This may be the one reason for me to pop for a serious upgrade. Otherwise I would just keep puttering and try a 360. The mods are everything to UT. And second half of 2007. Dang I thought it was coming out soon. It will be mid next year before we get really good mods. I want the option to run UR3 utilizing Direct X 10 goodies, if I have to wait that long.
- smex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know if Unreal started from the unreal demo here:
http://pain.scene.org/service_dosbox.php?order=3
??- giid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I seriously doubt it. I don't think Future Crew and Epic have any people in common.

I loved Unreal Tournament...and that looks amazing! I guess it own't be out for PC now, or at least won't be as good looking or even run on my ocmputer. - ZippyDSMlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh joy more and more they become like the bland and poor Quake they have been trying to copy since 2003,get a grip guys stop trying to copy dried up ID in its current stagnating form, get back to what made UT great in the first place, fast passed action, fun and balanced over the top weapons this watered down nerfing of fun you have forced on in the past few years needs to go.....
