- thepompano, on 10/12/2007, -2/+49Nope, the fanboys are all playing World of Warcraft right now.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -4/+44They'll probably just put out another expansion instead. World of Warcraft: The Quest for More Money expansion pack. It'll be known as WoW:TQFMM
- fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43I wish they'd let the MMO thing go for a while and focus on games you don't have to buy *and* rent to play.
- DiggingDeep, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Where's Starcraft Ghost?
Oh, must be cloaked. - ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -11/+34World of Diablo, plz.
- kaddar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Dear Jesus,
Please don't let Diablo 3 become a massive multiplayer online pay-for-account game.
I enjoy diablo 2 for its casual player-centered, as opposed to community-centered, aspects. I enjoy feeling like I am the one true hero destined to defeat my antithesis, Diablo, lord of hell. I enjoy diablo as a small, group based game which I can beat, conclude, and continue on with my life, only to come back months later to replay from the beginning as I chose, without having to keep my account open.
Diablo 2 is also very much a social aspect between somewhat casual gamers in real life.
Your fan,
kaddar

Dear kaddar
I'm not a game developer dude.
Much love,
Jesus - Bahimiron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Yeah. Starcraft Ghost was awesome, too.
From that opening sequence through to the last level. Amazing. And the plot twists? I was getting whiplash from the way that sucker spun story at me! The best part was the whole metafictional aspect of the game where it turns out that it doesn't exist and was cancelled and we'll never get to play it ever! SWEET! - FearMEiDEA, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Better yet, a high level MMORPG where you could have characters from WoW, the upcoming World of Starcraft, and the upcoming World of Diablo all meet up.
Orc Hunter vs Zerg Zergling FTW! - Iknockstuffdown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14The Lost Vikings ONLINE
- Obliterator, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18If they are indeed making a Starcraft MMORPG, I will not buy it. They should keep it as an RTS like the first one (and expansion).
- chingy1788, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12I'm going to be pissed if Starcraft 2 is going to be an MMORPG
Why?
----Seven Reasons why Starcraft 2 should not be an MMORPG----
1. I am against mindless drones playing 16 hours a day on WoW... now either I am going to become one of those mindless drones or I will miss out on starcraft...
2. I want starcraft 2 in its strategy form since I do want to play Starcraft Strategy online with more opponents than Starcraft 1 now, think of all the new Custom Maps as well
3. I am a uni student MMORPGing around would not be a good idea, It is better to play shorter strategy games than an 8 - 16 hour long haul MMORPG hit...
4. Strategy games require thinking skills, thats why its called strategy, MMORPGs are just mindless quest solving (killing things, doing things you are told) and killing more things to level... leveling requires dang near no skill, you can get to lvl 70 in less than a day or it may take you a year its still level 70
5. After being a mindless drone myself on maple story... fortunately not during Uni... I would have to Say I have wasted quite a few hours of my life... better spent doing many other things... after the repetitive-ness of maple story, i find that WoW (trial) is just as boring... played up to lvl 5 a then left, also the community on the servers are bad, everyone is against newbs, no help whatsoever...
6. Due to the non "strateginess" of an MMORPG starcraft 2 in MMORPG form, I think, will not take on in Korea, they want strategy more than the starcraft storyline, thats why they play multiplayer starcraft in competitions, not seeing who can ramp through the full SC and BW single player mode the fastest
7. Since we will probably be dealing with guns, Jack Thompson will be forcing his mouth in to stop starcraft 2, and we don't want that guy to open his mouth, ever
of course, if they make Starcraft 2 in strategy form and a starcraft based MMORPG then I don't mind
Just cant only be Starcraft based MMORPG alone and No Starcraft 2 in strategy - ChristianBk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I see "next-gen" for an MMO meaning "prettier-looking typical MMO with same gameplay elements."
- CannedMango, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@scornforsega
"World of Diablo, plz."
WoW included so many Diablo elements (i.e. the skill trees, the inventory style, the potions), that I consider it a Warcraft-Diablo hybrid.
Starcraft MMO is the way to go... except that after breaking my WoW addiction, I don't think i'd tempt fate and start playing WoS. - mortigon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I will be so pissed if this is what they are announcing soon. We don't need anymore MMO's... We need Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2!
- plnegative1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I would be a lot less pissed over a Starcraft MMORPG if it was free. (I would still be pissed it wasn't Starcraft 2, though), If I have to pay anything beyond purchasing the game initially I am boycotting whatever the game is they are announcing. Ridiculous.
- fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Diablo 3 rumours have been kicking around for ~2 years now ... and there's nothing to show for any of it. Not even a leaked screenshot.
- JamesKeenan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm not so sure I approve. Wasn't a big issue with the current Blizzard development team something about all the most competent developers, who made Starcraft the RTS gem it is now, leaving for Arenanet? I'm pretty sure ArenaNet is all the former major Blizzard developers. So with this possibly inadeuqate team developing Starcraft 2 and a following game probably based in the Starcraft universe. (Because Diablo would be too close to Warcraft, and I doubt they'd make something new when Starcraft would sell just fine)
Am I wrong? I completely accept that I may be. (I only hope people consider what I said as contemplative instead of insulting, so they don't unnecessarily digg me down.) - xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I hope they return to their sources with the release of Starcraft. I actually really enjoyed the strategy games a whole lot more than I do MMORPGS. Actually I think MMORPGS are inherently doomed. They require way too much time and commitment to be "good" at them. Just look at wowdetox.com to see what I mean.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6From my understanding... this is related to a new ip they were working on, but to the frontpage news about starcraft 2 might just be starcraft 2 only... or maybe an mmo related to starcraft universe... also on blizzard's site, they have been advertising they are looking for people to work on the un-disclosed mmo.
But you might want to think this.. with the stats showing that i think it was
4 million users for warcraft rts
and 9 million users for starcraft rts
9 million for warcraft mmo
??? million for a starcraft mmo..
they might be doing a starcraft mmo because the numbers might be promising to them. who knows... may 19th is right around the corner. - mortigon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Exactly... subscription based games are terrible. The whole game is about avoiding the actual end of the game, keep people coming back for more, and drain their pockets into the companies pockets.
The games are so repetitive it's ridiculous. Just hard to have fun when everything feels like a competition to "level up", and the fact that you are paying for every second you play is stuck in the back of your head. - ElbridgeGerry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yes, because every Digg user carries Kevin Rose as an idol.
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5A Diablo MMO would be too close to WoW. Though Diablo is darker, two fantasy MMO's at the same time would be counterproductive to the cash cow that Blizzard cares about above all else these days.
- fLUx1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5To sum it all up:
1. A new MMO is going to be made....
2. There are plans to revisit the Starcraft Franchise....
3. They are going to announce a "New Game" in KOREA - the craziest country about Starcraft on this Planet....
Why the hell WOULDNT it be Starcraft?!
WoS (World of Starcraft) would be twice as popular as WoW in Korea, and proberly the world!!
We will see soon in may!! - hadak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4hopefully their 'next-gen' mmo doesn't include being a fed-ex boy until lvl 60.
- sagelink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@AirRaven
Blizzard did not kill the Warcraft franchise. Just because you don't like a game doesn't mean your opinions are indeed facts. I know plenty of people who enjoy WC3 and WoW just as well (me included).
However I really do wish that they would make a Starcraft 2, or at least release Starcraft: Ghost. - Droniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Due to the non "strateginess" of an MMORPG starcraft 2 in MMORPG form, I think, will not take on in Korea, they want strategy more than the starcraft storyline, thats why they play multiplayer starcraft in competitions, not seeing who can ramp through the full SC and BW single player mode the fastest"
Never played Guild Wars did you? - relic2279, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I've been playing online roleplaying games since early 90's... MUDS anyone? There are still a few open. I've played guildwars but thats about it. I will not pay a monthly-yearly fee to play a game that I have to buy anyways. If guild wars can successfully do it for free, why can't blizzard.
It's obviously about the almighty buck but common.... If your going to charge monthly, why not give the game away free then.
LONG LIVE ROP. LONG LIVE MUDS.... The orginal mmorpg - psykiv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As much as I absolutely loved the original version of Starcraft and Brood Wars, if it means they are going to turn it into a freaking MMO (A la WoW), I hope they don't release anything at all.
It's been roughly 10 years since the original was released, there will be extremely high expectations for it.
I spent WAY too many hours playing Starcraft in middle school and high school. I actually made a starcraft cd that did not need to be installed. Just shove it in the CD-ROM, run my script, and start playing. A lot of time was spent playing in the computer labs :) Too bad I saw my grades suffer a lot for it. One hour of sleep a night is more than enough, right? - popezaphod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I want the thousands of hours I put into WoW back.
- bmc152006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2exactly what i was thinking, world of diablo would be WoW + Demons
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, I think Blizzard just made a high profile MMORPG and is riding the cash cow, and at the same time milking it for all it's worth.
- Psykus2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nobody is going to play more than one MMO at a time. I know I wouldn't. That's why I hope (and think) that if it's Starcraft, it's Starcraft 2, pure RTS. A Starcraft MMO would detract so much from WoW at this point..maybe they'll do it in the far future if WoW ever dies down, but when they *just* released an expansion pack for WoW, I don't see it happening.
- Brittania, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sorry, but chances are its just for the next expansion which they have already said will feature a lvl cap of lvl 75.
They also have been having a bit of turn over in the company for employment.
Expect StarCraft to be an RTS as it should be. They proved that with Ghost. It was terrible. - MGB855, on 10/12/2007, -13/+15World(Universe?) of Starcraft FTW!
- Beatmiser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The new MMO is going to be comprised soley of material that you can only do with 70 other individuals in a coreographed concert of timed button mashing and irate yells over ventrillo. At the end of each encounter an item will drop that will only be of use to Michael J. Fox, who will, in the course of the game descriptions be the all encompassing evil that will threaten your group every ten minutes.
You heard it here first. - darthsuo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@mustafya
It depends on what you call ground-breaking. Starcraft wasn't incredibly innovative in terms of story or even gameplay. But the reason everyone still plays it is because they polished it to a blinding glare and kept giving post-release support for balancing. Same with WoW; it basically took the MMO market and perfected it. So yeah, maybe Blizzard won't have an original IP, but the game they make sure will be good. - reylor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3World of Warcraft already incorporates a lot of the elements of D2, take the talent trees for example. Socketed Items. Secret Cow Level (Thunder Bluff). I mean, c'mon :-P
- Arcadian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Diablo isn't too close to Warcraft. They could easily exist side by side - and in fact, have existed side by side. Diablo is grim and gritty fantasy, Warcraft is more on the cartoony side. A lot of people, who don't actually play World of Warcraft (anymore) would love to try out Diablo III.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"This is not Warcraft in space"
- chijim70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree. One game I got with macaddict way back in the day was lineage and the game was free with a free 30 day trial. I played that fregin game for 6-7 years... it cost about 12 per month and constantly got upgrades and events for holidays or (just because) that kept the game fun, interesting, and growing. What kind of crap is it to charge customers for an expansion of a game that you already pay a monthly fee for? I'm not paying the monthly fee for you to sit on your ass, I'm paying it so you will maintain the game I already play! I can't even think of anyone who has done this at all aside from them. It would be one thing if they had a product so unlike anything else out that you just had to have it, but they don't, nor have they ever. Try lineage2, and EQ2 not to mention about a hundred other albiet less well done titles of the genre that were out long before them.
I'd be willing to bet that this trend toward corporate greed probably has something to do with why their original developers have jumped ship to make Hellgate and Mythos.
I remember the reason why people liked blizzard is because you'd go to their site and wind up seeing family photos and *****. Like they were real people. AND they had a moto "games for gamers by gamers".
I think for the genre that WoW is well done, but certainly not the best out graphically or in means of fluidity of motion in game play.
The promises of "Next Gen" anything are almost always a let down. - RudeAndReckless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't care what it is... just please, for the love of god and all that is unholy, NO MORE MMORPG!
/endrant - 2Deluxe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually, ya'll are both asshats :D
- mneinast, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You're right. Nobody will play more than one MMO at a time. I don't think Blizzard should wait until WoW dies down, though, because that would give an opportunity to competing MMOs. If Blizzard times everything right, it should be able to release MMO2 (whatever it is) when its WoW players are just bored enough to switch, but not bored enough to quit Blizzard altogether and move on to some other company's game.
- mustafya, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@ayatollah
They have yet to come up with anything that groundbreaking. Warcraft was originally Warhammer Fantasy ip until GW rejected it back in the day. Starcraft is a quite obvious ripoff of WH:40k. WoW is an amalgation of the good things about the MMORPGs out at the time. It is not a next-gen MMO in my opinion seeing as how almost everything in it was already around. So yes, I do doubt Blizzard's ability to come up with something new. - bmc152006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i do like the idea of a rated mature World of Diablo if they went in that direction...
- JsXtehj0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmm blizzard's idea of an mmorpg is a grindfest... yay... a new grindfest
i pray for warhammer to be awesome... - mortigon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It would be too similar to a lot of other RTS's out there... humans vs demons.
There also isnt too much room for multiple races either.
It just wouldn't fit into the storyline.
Diablo 3 is what we need... but who's the enemy? - mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Its probably Diablo.
- ThisLife, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ill be a fanboy
hey blizzard,diablo3 info would be nice! - haemonculasx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree with you. Starcraft should remain an RTS. But I would be highly disappointed if they released Starcraft 2 with nothing more than fancy graphics and a few new characters. RTS games have not changed in years. Hopefully the genre can be reinvented.
