- seshat6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+732008 in Blizzard time would be equivalent to our 2014
- Recluse84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+54I dont want a WoW clone of Starcraft. Or a WC3 engined-clone. Starcraft remains my favorite Blizzard game of all time and I just hope that if they do make a true RTS style sequel, it's an updated and improved version of the original and not made to look or feel like Warcraft or other RTSs.
- bryant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+50Ghost was actually cancelled, I think...
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -14/+54Unless the game is secretly in its beta stages, there is no way Blizzard will have it out by 2008. Blizzard is notorious for taking month/years to polish their games, which is also why they are so good. I first read about WoW when I was a freshman in college, and it wasn't even released until after I graduated. They haven't even announced a proper Starcraft sequel yet, so I don't expect one until at least 2010. Heck, Starcraft Ghost was announced about the same time as WoW and it still hasn't come out and probably never will.
I want my Starcraft 2 now, and I hope Blizzard proves me wrong, but the their past history says otherwise. But as long as the Starcraft that does get released has the same polish as previous Blizzard games it will be worth the wait. - phatalbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38battlecruiser operational

What do you mean what Starcraft "was"? You are right in referring to Total Annihilation in the past tense, because it was a game that was rarely bought after 2000, but Starcraft is still going strong in 2007. - notforsale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33That would cut into their insane profits on WoW, for double the effort they wouldnt get double the returns.
That said, it would be very cool. I'd just be happy with a new Quality release from Blizzard that didnt require my immortal soul ;-) - aweraw, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25*NERDGASM*

How can you say Starcraft is failing?
Did you know there is a Starcraft channel in S. Korea?
All day all night they broadcast live game play.
Alive and kicking if you ask me. - Reap, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20the TA-Spring community is how many people? A few thousand? South Korea still has professional tournaments of Starcraft. I like both of them, but yeah.... Starcraft wins.
- PhantomZmoove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I still have a couple Starcraft sounds in use on this pc. One being the acknowledgment of starting a cd copy. The Archon, "we buuuurn".

- abid786, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12And ladies and gentlemen, to your right is Exibit A - The Troll. Please refrain from feeding the troll
- rideroyals, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I'd rather have them take longer and have them come out with another amazing game :)
- Gizza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Actually, its 8 million ACTIVE subscribers. They dont count accounts with expired game cards or trial accounts.
- XxEric03xX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Prepped and ready!
- bigbb33, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12@bryant
It was "indefinitely delayed", so 99% chance that it will never reach production. - Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I ache for a new version of Starcraft (one of the best games ever made, IMO), but PLEASE don't make it like Warcraft III (a big disappointment to me).
Though with Blizzard making money hand over fist with WoW, I am pessimistic that they'd devote any time to a compelling new version of Starcraft (though I'm trying to be hopeful). - abid786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8the best were when you clicked on them many times over and over :)
- Anthem26, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9starcraft ghost...i'm still waiting for duke nukem forever to come out...

- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Plus I think the next Diablo has been said to be a MMO, right? They're due up for an RTS :D
I'm so excited. - jstohler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Ohpleaseohpleaseohpleasepleaseohpleasepleaseohplease
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Sounds to me like someone got frequently and mercilessly pounded in Starcraft...
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@notforsale
I disagree. If you're familiar with the MMO world, and the MMO market at all, then you know there's a distinct line drawn in the MMO sand. There are sci-fi MMO fans, and fantasy MMO fans. The two markets rarely meet.
Blizzard has currently tied up the later, but with a World Of Starcraft they could almost certainly attain the former. - Rikushix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think it's gonna take forever to push out that game...it's gonna be waaayyy delayed (Ghost anyone)? But when it does come out...
Zerg Rush! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+82 words, hellgate london.
- GreatGrizzly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Now shall the events set into motion so long ago be made complete. For the Protoss, too, were created by the Xel'Naga. They were the first creation, gifted with a purity of form. And we were the second creation, blessed with a purity of essence. Indeed, our two species are but opposite facets of a greater whole. Soon shall our two races be made as one. Thenceforth shall all feel the wrath of the eternal Swarm...
For the hour of judgement is come!
:P - YKKonMyZipper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7carriers = instant win
Only the uber of nerdy starcraft players will appreciate that ^_^'' ..kekekekekekekekekekekekekek - drakino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If they do a new Starcraft, it still better allow a ton of units. That was my biggest disappointment with Warcraft III. They tried to innovate, then backed off of the first concept, and rolled parts of the concept into the traditional RTS game. The first concept worked well with a small group of units as it was more of an RPG with some RTS elements in it. The camera was locked on the hero, and you led them through battles as the overall war was going on. The heroes part remained, and so did the small scope when they returned it to a full RTS.
Oh, and Blizzard doesn't make 8 million x $15. Most of the subscribers pay much less then that, and it's part of the reason it has hit 8 million. The majority of WoW players are in the Asian region. There is also a portion of that income that is going to the companies that are helping Blizzard run the game in those areas. For the US, a good portion of the money goes to Vivendi, and it's been about the only thing keeping them propped up these days. Pretty funny to think Blizzard was up for sale shortly before WoW shipped. - seneyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Meh. It's wishful thinking by a spokesman right up there with "Duke Nukem Forever will be done." or, "The Playstation 4 is coming". Besides, it's their most-well known secret that they've got some people working on it and Diablo III. The problem is that they've got Supreme Commander and C&C3 coming out within a year, so they've got to pull something out of their RTS hat soon or people are gonna start to forget about them.
- SiggiSim, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13Can you say World of Starcraft?
- kenok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Could be. Cancelled SC:Ghost for a true SC game instead.
- VorpalK, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11That 8 million is total accounts ever opened. I cancelled mine over a year ago, and I have no interest in a largely PvP centric expansion. I have no interest in waiting in line to pay a game if I'm paying a subscription for it. I'm not the only one that cancelled. Out of about 20 people at my office, only 8 are still playing.
Great, it's REALLY REALLY popular. Given the huge population of largely mouth-breathers, and the small percentage of good players, I have no interest in EVER going back to that game.
They certainly have a dedicated and large player base. It's not 8 million strong, however. - MrBobby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8You've obviously never played Starcraft. Carriers blow. They're for noobs who sit around farming minerals, wait 15 minutes to build a pack of 8 and then get torn down in < 30 seconds by the 4 Corsairs I accidentally made while waiting for my Arbiter's psi to grow.
Seriously, ever other race's 2nd level unit can destroy them. Say 20 Hydras or 15 Goliaths against 8 Carriers. And I wonder whose bank account comes out ahead in that conflict...
** Not really an *****, just kidding. Though Carriers do suck. - firehydra2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Oh jeez....S. Korea is going to hell when this game comes out...
- TyRaNNOus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Blizzard probably started working on the game at least 3 to 5 years ago. I would also imagine that Blizzard is probably hard at work on a Diablo sequel also.
- jumanji69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4tell me where it hurts
- dvorachek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I tried to buy a copy of starcraft for a fledgling gamer I knew, and the store I went to was sold out of all their copies. Granted they only had 5 or 10 copies for christmas probably, but I was kind of shocked.
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6They definitely wouldn't make a Diablo MMO. Half of WoW is Warcraft but the other half is Diablo. Jewelcrafting and socketed items anybody? ;)
Even though sci-fi and fantasy are separate, I also think World of Starcraft would cut into their profits. I mean, when you've got 8 million subscribers, it is hard NOT to cut into your own profits. A lot of people are playing WoW, I bet, because Blizzard has such a great reputation and makes such great games. If Blizzard release another great game that cost $15/month, people's loyalty would be divided, IMO. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5First of all, no matter what they do, it's going to cut into their profits for WoW...
To the guy who said: "I disagree. If you're familiar with the MMO world, and the MMO market at all, then you know there's a distinct line drawn in the MMO sand. There are sci-fi MMO fans, and fantasy MMO fans. The two markets rarely meet."
I call bull. Sure, this may be true for *SOME* MMOs, but WoW is a different breed entirely. These people are mostly either fans of Blizzard or fans of damn-good-games. You'd be suprised at how little the actual universe-type matters to most gamers. A good game is a good game, whether it's sci-fi, fantasy, or pinatas. - fuzbkw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7@hammydude
So, StarCraft still has shelf space, 9 years later. Sure, the battlechest sells on Amazon for only $20. But it's still on store shelves. If you know anything about retailing, you'll realize that's a big deal.
The only people selling TA via Amazon are reputable big name vendors like "great_deals_software" and "bigdaddysoftware.com"
TA > SC? The market begs to differ.
I remember the TA vs SC holy wars on Usenet. I can't believe they're still going on. - onthepunt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4some awesome stories from the Oxford Street opening.. hardly anyone turned up in costume.. almost 3,000 people and people joining the queue at 1am.. 250 collectors edition boxes (which had been taken from small chains to sell at the opening) one guy bum rushed the store and security threw him into a CD stand and he broke his nose on the stand leaving in a pool of blood.. sounds more like a PS3 launch than a MMORPG Expansion!
- MagicBobert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Operation Cwal!
- bigbb33, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Unfortunately nearly the entire team that had creative control over the original Starcraft have left Blizzard, so it's going to be less of a sequel and more of a new game, in spirit anyway.
I hope that the designers don't fall into the Warcraft III trap of making the game cartoonish and aimed at 12-14 year olds - I'd rather have deeper strategy than an anime-like Orc hero that goes around gaining levels by killing neutral units. - StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5If they did make WoSC, it wouldn't be until after WoW starts to die down.
- jstohler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You can't stop the zerg rush -- you can only hope to contain it.
