- gsthomas606, on 02/09/2009, -1/+103Not participating things you used to enjoy is one common sign that you may be addicted to WoW.. you might want to get some help Blizzard.
- Simssega, on 02/09/2009, -4/+78E3 is turning into a joke.
- Topher06, on 02/09/2009, -2/+73Well, if you don't intend on releasing a game in 2009, then why show up.
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -2/+57Blizzard doesn't have to hype it's products. People already have their money ready when any of their games hit the market.
- kuchino, on 02/10/2009, -0/+40E3 Went down hill since the Ban of scantily clad Booth Babes
- silent128, on 02/10/2009, -1/+38Blizzard is very smart to drop E3. For the past few years it has been nothing but a joke, blizzcon is a much better places to show their new games and they are in control. Good way to save money.
- Planets, on 02/10/2009, -0/+31Still turning into one, is it?
- canada42, on 02/10/2009, -0/+31Correction, E3 has gone downhill since they decided anybody that wasn't an industry professional wasn't good enough to attend. However the booth babe ban furthered their downward spiral into oblivion.
- Nintendesert, on 02/10/2009, -1/+30He said games in 2009.
- newsboys, on 02/10/2009, -0/+24@benologist ....again, he said 2009.
- ripple123, on 02/10/2009, -0/+23in terms of consistent quality, blizzard are the pixar of the games industry
- illt, on 02/10/2009, -1/+21especially when you have your own large annual convention
- bigp3rm, on 02/10/2009, -0/+20^^ Blizzcon is not annual. It is a semi-regular convention.
- Tyrghast, on 02/10/2009, -2/+20And Korea weeps silently...
- ninjafish87, on 02/10/2009, -0/+13Actually E3 has been a joke for the past 2-3 years. This year it is actually pulling itself together and have made several improvements that make the event closer to the beast it was 5 years ago.
Typically when a developer goes to E3 they are expected to bring demos of games that are unfinished. In these situations the developer usually spends 2 months or more preparing a demo of an unfinished product. This wastes development time and resources for a demo that isn't even an accurate or fully representative of the final product.
Blizzard of all developers is under less pressure to make an appearance because they have their own annual Blizzcon where they can show off all their new content and get the spotlight they would like.
Also this is old news and probably a duplicate, article was posted 4 days ago. - sirbeta, on 02/10/2009, -0/+11Seriously. Considering Blizzcon is so successful, what's the point in being part of E3 anymore? E3 doesn't even know what it wants to be anymore. It flopped bigtime when it tried downsizing itself into its own little exclusive media club. Then, realizing that didn't work went to go big again and now stuff like this happens.
E3 has pretty much sealed its own fate over these last few years. I doubt it will go away anytime soon but I really doubt it will be anywhere near as successful as it once was. - dudestuff, on 02/10/2009, -1/+12blizzard execs are headed down the path to full-on addiction. which, as we all know, ends here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnAviW8Z-x0
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -0/+9I can't friggin' wait for Diablo 3!!
- Stemnin, on 02/10/2009, -0/+8They still patch SC.
- canada42, on 02/10/2009, -0/+8What tickets? You don't get into E3 anymore unless you're an industry professional or press. Which btw is the decision a few years back that pretty much instantly turned E3 from the event of the year for the game industry into the butt of every joke.
- mysticpickle, on 02/10/2009, -0/+8I think everyone here knows that E3 has been going downhill ever since they changed the rules on who can attend. PAX is where the action is at now. Blizzard is just showing they're ahead of the game (as usual) by dropping off E3
- EvanGH, on 02/10/2009, -4/+11Blizzard runs its own game. Always has, always will. If you're curious about their approach to marketing, it's this: fans first, press third. That's why they'll reveal stuff first to their community, forums and fan sites before giving any media a detailed look at what they're working on.
- pagit, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7friken RL gold farmers
bet they are saving a ton of dough not going to E3 and are better off marketing their own stuff at BlizzCon - their own show.
not exacty "drop out" if you don't sign up in the first place. - Hraes, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7Oh yeah, I forgot. I was going to say something about how this seemed like a bad/elitist move on Blizzard's part, but your comment reminded me that E3 decided to self-immolate.
- hatdrop, on 02/10/2009, -0/+7not to mention full naked women
- anaclagon, on 02/10/2009, -0/+6Blizzard has excellent customer support.
- scoottie, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7E3 has officially become Comdex: Part 2
The industry shot itself in the head when they changed the restrictions of who can attend and i am glad its failing. People need to start to support "E For All" and CeBIT. - Doctornorway, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7Blizzard doesn't ***** around
- twtmc, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7PAX is where the majority of their non-Blizzcon expo money should go.
- CoreyTamas, on 02/10/2009, -1/+7Yeah. A year of beta testing. It's called "getting it right".
- benologist, on 02/10/2009, -3/+8Diablo 3? : (
- N1tro, on 02/10/2009, -1/+6My guess is we wont be seeing any blizzard game till 2010 , they seem to always push stuff back... and they have their own convention
- antdude, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5Blizzard has its own convention anyways!
- TotalHalibut, on 02/10/2009, -1/+6They are masters of hype through telling nobody anything at all.
- BugMeNot2, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5E For All sucks.
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5For the love of god, not this again. Okay, let me explain this to those of you who still don't understand.
Yes, it is one game with two expansion packs. But you have to understand, that each "expansion pack" is going to feel more like a full featured game than an actual expansion. So even though technically it is one game with two expansions, its going to feel like three separate games based off of the original starcraft game. Therefore, everyone who loves starcraft, should be absolutely totally stoked, as you are basically getting three full games instead of just one. For more info or if you still don't understand, here is the wikipedia article.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarCraft_II - TotalHalibut, on 02/10/2009, -0/+5That's not actually true. While we do get a lot of info from our PR contact at Blizzard, and get sent regular info and press releases, the big stuff always goes to the gaming media outlets first. IGN, Gamespy etc got a ton of exclusives that the fansites didn't.
Don't get me wrong, they're really good to us, but it's not always 'fans first', not by a long shot. - Kuvter, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4@mike17032, Most fans of Blizzard know this like it's common knowledge.
- Rapter09, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4I don't think there's room on the edges of the E3 coffin for any more nails. Rust in Pieces, E3. We hardly knew ye.
Actually, everybody else knew ye except me it seems: I spend a significant portion of my single-digit and early-double-digit life dreaming of going to E3, hit my 20's and finally have money to go, and what do you do? Turn it into a *****.
God dammit. - Kuvter, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4@ Spore comment. Will Wright = Amazing. EA = meh. Totally agree Spore would have been better if EA had nothing to do with it.
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4A benologist specializes in benology.
- Neb28, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4i guess this means E3 will be canceling shortly as well
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -1/+5Random thought: Damn, can you imagine how awesome Spore would of been if it was done by Blizzard and not that ***** retard's excuse for a gaming company also known as EA?
Apologies to retards everywhere by the way. Comparing EA to you was just flat out wrong, uncalled for and totally inappropriate. I'm sure even the most retarded retard could of done a better job with Spore than EA did. - Valyn, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4Blizzard has careful crafted a flawless reputation, you may not like some of their games personally, you cant argue with their success towards their intended market. People were willing to pay for their pre-order's on the days that Starctaft 2, and Diablo 3 were announced.
With how much work goes into setting up and getting a build and/or video ready for a convention, I would rather them not show up, and have their games 2 weeks earlier. Especially, like illt says below, when they have their own convention. - welestgw, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4Who cares about them dropping out, can I expect 3D Realms to show Duke Nukem Forever?
- abrasion, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4I don't expect they'll ever do a Warcraft 4 what with WoW out and all :/
The lore / characters are far too big now, such a shame, I loved War 3. - frepnog, on 02/10/2009, -0/+4BLIZZARD IS SERIOUS BUSINESS!
- omgwtflawl, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3If it is such a big joke, why are people paying. Hell, MMOs where you don't even have to pay hardly generate any traffic compared to WOW. I don't play MMOs because they are soul-crushing life destroyers, but insulting their business practice (especially WoW's business practices) is stupid considering the amount of money they rake in.
- Ravatar, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3Everyone already knows what Blizzard has coming, and beyond that they have their own conference to announce products, where they get ALL the exposure, BlizzCon.
- inactive, on 02/10/2009, -0/+3What do you get when you put nerds with cameras in the same room as several dozen beautiful women? http://www.e3girls.com/
