- romistrub, on 07/02/2008, -11/+2Does anybody here remember the Baldur's Gate series? I've been waiting for half of my life for the three-quel. Baldur's Gate II turned me into the fatass that I am today! Thanks Blizzard!
Seriously, though. Minsc was the ***** bomb. His battlecries still fill my dreams ("GO FOR THE EYES"). Sidenote: does anybody think that Bas Rutten is the incarnation of Minsc? http://images.quickblogcast.com/116773-109023/Basr ... vs. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/09/Mins ...- Beerduck, on 07/02/2008, -0/+14Blizzard had absolutely _nothing_ to do with Baldur's Gate.
- romistrub, on 07/02/2008, -4/+2Oh. Hah. Well then.
I still want a Baldur's Gate III, and I still think Minsc = Bas Rutten. - elpollocholo, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2ahhh haaaaaa. poser geek

Moo Moo Mo-moo-moo-moo.- bosssmiley, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1World of Cowcraft?

- flangepiece, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2If Blizzard were given "Starwars Galaxies 2" to do, I might actually be forced to retract my renunciation of MMOs. God help me, and my poor, poor family were that the case.

- lithera, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9I think I'll just make it easier for Blizzard and me and just hand over my soul to them.
- giantsfan134, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Everyone knows it's going to be World of Workcraft, they already have gameplay trailers out for it.

- Nitesmoke, on 07/02/2008, -0/+30What is up with Blizzard lately? It shouldn't be legal for the one company to kick so much ass. Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft, and even Lost Vikings, are all excellent franchises and if this new MMO is original, other game companies are screwed. Just the other day, the Crysis guys were bitching about piracy being the reason they aren't making money, but you don't hear any of that ***** from Blizzard. I think making ***** games might have a lot to do with their money woes. Yes they have "Ultra-realistic Graphcs that will Blow Up Your PC!!" but if you polish a turd, you just end up with shiny *****. I can't wait to see what the new game will be.
- Fozefy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Ya I agree...I'm currently in Software engineering wanting to get into the game development, I guess I'll just need to get employed by Blizzard!
- Nitesmoke, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Frozefy, If you do, how bout coming to digg with some info on the new game?
- KMartSheriff, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3"Just the other day, the Crysis guys were bitching about piracy being the reason they aren't making money, but you don't hear any of that ***** from Blizzard."
Well, to be fair, Blizzard games are pretty much all used online, which would be hard to pirate. But nonetheless, the Crysis guys are still whiney bitches. - rishid, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Instant classic line: "if you polish a turd, you just end up with shiny *****"
- therocksays, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2Bye bye free time in 2018...
- EgaoNoGenki, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1LOL, this IS free time!
- Schmich, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Meh, WoW was my first and last MMORPG. Great to play but really a time-consumer. I'm heading back to FPS gaming (also because PvP is pretty much broken in WoW). Can't wait for Quake Live.
- Dracusis, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Good to see Blizzard aren't just frolicking about in their pools of cash from WoW subscribers. If there was any time for them to try out a new IP, now would be it.
- infinitus64, on 07/02/2008, -14/+3so you are a gold farmer?, Playing video games is what i do in my free time but it does from time to time take away from my social life.
- dinkinflicka, on 07/01/2008, -5/+63They did WoW along side Warcraft 3. It makes sense from an asset point of view to be doing something with Starcraft.
- IamCitiznInsane, on 07/02/2008, -0/+21it makes sense in a MARKETING point of view
- delau, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1With Blizzard it doesn't really matter what product they are marketing. Hype rules all.
- jugglingjon, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6I had forgotten about that, makes sense. I would play a Starcraft MMO game in a second.
- juicyjames, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5I agree. Just as they went from Warcraft III, to The Frozen Throne, to World of Wacraft, I really think they are going to do Starcraft II, Starcraft II's expansion, then a Starcraft MMO.
- Peko, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4sounds fairly well reasoned. Dont forget blizz tried out some WoWesque stuff in wc3's expansion (the orc campaign)
- YourDoom123, on 07/02/2008, -2/+1^ nah, it was a lot more diablo-esque
- PosedMagnet, on 07/02/2008, -2/+0Well, since WoW was based on Diablo themes, classes, and talent structure, it's pretty moot what it was based off.
- JettaMan, on 07/02/2008, -2/+6Starcraft: Ghost!
- Sabretou, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2Or Diablo...
- mugicha, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6No, Diablo is too much like WoW. A Starcraft MMO would make a lot more sense because it would be a completely different world.
- zmigliozzi, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Are you speculating like a World of Starcraft?
- chillypacman, on 07/02/2008, -2/+1It's probably just WoW 2...
- Merendino, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1If they made "World of Starcraft" that would be freaking awesome.
- dezholling, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I don't know. Warcraft III was hero-based, so in a sense WoW was a logical step from that. Starcraft is about bigger battles without heroes. So unless this Starcraft MMO was kind of a mix of WoW and PlanetSide, I don't really see it.
However, I'd like to add that I think a blend of a typical MMO with a game like PlanetSide would be awesome as well as possible with next-gen computers (and hopefully next-gen bandwidth).
- IamCitiznInsane, on 07/02/2008, -0/+21it makes sense in a MARKETING point of view
- personalj, on 07/01/2008, -30/+59Well, after AoC's flop and the impending flop of Warhammer Online, looks like blizzard will be the one making the WoW killer.
- zdiddy85, on 07/01/2008, -17/+7Um how did AoC flop? I think it's an excellent game and so do a lot of other people..
- personalj, on 07/01/2008, -2/+20For the first 20 levels, open up your eyes, there is no content past the 30s.
- wrathofg0d, on 07/02/2008, -2/+14um tons of people didn't resub once the head starts/free month ran out
conan isn't a total flop its just going to end up like eq2 with a niche playerbase when it had the potential to put a serious dent in wow's subscription base - wonderchemist, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5Besides the lack of high level content, was the bunch of minor gameplay issues that made playing annoying enough for me not to pay after my first month.
- zdiddy85, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2Well damn it's only been out a month or two, and they are updating frequently. I just hit 40 and I'm still having a blast.
- doople, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2In terms of being the Wow-killer, it failed. A game can be very enjoyable for the people playing it and still be considered a flop in the business sense.
- Lythium, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2wrathofg0d is dead on - I dropped WoW to try out AoC, and it ended up just feeling like drudgery. I kept trying to convince myself that it was worth my time because I already dished out the money for the game, but I ended up canceling my subscription within two weeks.
Say what you will about Blizzard, but at least they respect themselves and their fan-base enough to _really_ put some polish on a game, instead of ***** out a beta and calling it good as Funcom did with AoC. - BattleChimp, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1LOTS of people love AoC, including me. It has exactly the feel I want. I've played just about every MMO ever, btw.
- thetonyp, on 07/02/2008, -1/+53It has long been my belief that the only thing better than a game from Blizzard is the next game from Blizzard.
- Llanowar, on 07/02/2008, -9/+14AoC has been at it for what? 5 week now?
You can't possibly say it has flopped yet.- yohnstoppable, on 07/02/2008, -3/+6idk man, overall views of the game are very negative. I lasted a few weeks, and know basically no one who is still playing.
- rrbest, on 07/02/2008, -2/+2DAOC was definitely not a flop when it came out. That game was legendary
- KMartSheriff, on 07/02/2008, -1/+6Myself and a couple buddies have been playing it since it was first released. The initial release was VERY rough, and the game felt like it had barely left beta. The devs are working very hard on getting everything fixed along with adding new stuff, but yeah, too little too late.
It sucks because it feels like it has so much potential but it just doesn't deliver when you actually play it, not to mention it STILL feels so unfinished.
- yohnstoppable, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3I don't believe WAR will flop. I've heard a lot of positive stuff in the beta. It won't get close to WOW, but it will do well for itself. If not, then hopefully diablo 3 comes out soon enough
- Risingashes, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3I've seen countless friends get completely broken by getting in to the EA WAR beta.
I've had to talk friends in to eating again after they've locked themselves up with their little whatsit figurines- covered with bloody paint. It's sad quite frankly.
- Risingashes, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3I've seen countless friends get completely broken by getting in to the EA WAR beta.
- PATSCRU, on 07/02/2008, -5/+13AoC just confirmed A million shipped units and 770,000 registered users...It was widely hailed in the gaming presses as one of the more successful MMO launches (barring a certain WoW).
- alarchy, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4I wish I had a 700k+ subscribers "failure" of a game.
http://kotaku.com/5020731/age-of-conan-+-a-million ... - Chaos12, on 07/02/2008, -0/+10Million shipped does not mean million sold. Also it's only 700k accounts, not subscribers.
- Lythium, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Chaos, a good point. I'd like both Funcom and Blizzard to release figures of _active_ accounts, which is much more telling than total. For instance, I have accounts with both AoC and WoW, but both are frozen at the moment, so they're not generating any revenue for the company and thus should not count.
I wouldn't call AoC a flop just yet, if only because it's too close to the release date, but my personal experience says it's definitely heading that way, and it's certainly no WoW-killer. I keep going back to WoW time and time again, while AoC has failed to keep my attention even long enough for me to start paying for my subscription.
- alarchy, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4I wish I had a 700k+ subscribers "failure" of a game.
- mugicha, on 07/02/2008, -10/+3AoC flopped? That's news to me, and I knows me some gaming.
- Lythium, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3Obviously not, since you're willing to keep paying $15 a month for a game that should still be in beta.
- Emelius, on 07/02/2008, -2/+9AoC did not flop at all, last I heard selling 1 million copies and retaining over 65% of those people while selling more and more units while making the game better and better means the game could gain much more grounds than what you give it. AoC is probably one of the most entertaining games i've played (except for DAoC)
- KMartSheriff, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7Flop? No.
Very unfinished? Yes. - Harabeck, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1retaining 65% of people who buy your mmo? That sounds like a flop to me...
- MBDyer, on 07/02/2008, -1/+0Conversion rates for other software hovers below 10%. 65% is fantastic.
- KMartSheriff, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7Flop? No.
- Haroshia, on 07/02/2008, -7/+10700k+ subscribers, a million copies, and a rapidly improving game. They patch so much and you can tell they're really working to iron out the bugs like whoa. An 80% on Metacritic
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/ageof ...
Yeah AoC is really flopping...moron. - ParaSwarm, on 07/02/2008, -6/+4Haha, when did AOC flop? Give me a break. People can be so retarded..
- mandarin, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Typical fanboy
- zdiddy85, on 07/01/2008, -17/+7Um how did AoC flop? I think it's an excellent game and so do a lot of other people..
- zdiddy85, on 07/01/2008, -2/+85Jesus, we JUST got over this whole "speculating" about what Blizzard is going to release, and it almost gave me a heart attack.
Hey! Did you hear me?!!? Where are going?!
Ok, fine. Start up the rumor mill.- Protoss, on 07/02/2008, -4/+1Where are going?
- Bladwor, on 07/02/2008, -0/+10Yep, where are going. Wheres go if they want to, and you can't really question that.

- saiftk, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2I just thought of this....
How about Warcraft Vs. StarCraft
Include all the classes and make it the best game ever.
ANybody? - mugicha, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Pro tip: That's what the green thumbs up button is for.
- Britney90210, on 07/02/2008, -2/+1Why did I get -4 diggs? Are you guys that unfriendly geez!
- bamsebomsen, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Some people just don't like posts that describe the comments, it's like breaking the fourth wall for them.
Others don't like people who posts "useless" comments; Those who aren't funny. - Britney90210, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I see thanks.
- bamsebomsen, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Some people just don't like posts that describe the comments, it's like breaking the fourth wall for them.
- saiftk, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2I just thought of this....
- yargthepirate, on 07/01/2008, -6/+106Starcraft: Ghost Online?
- douce2, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4That was my first thought
- adventflux, on 07/02/2008, -1/+19Starcraft: Ghost. Period?
- Peko, on 07/02/2008, -0/+24So you can only play say 3-10 days a month and you get really emotionally unstable just before you login?
- mugicha, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3Funny how at least 2 references to Starcraft: Ghost above you were dug down, but this is getting dugg up The world works in mysterious ways young padawan....
- achoi, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13If they made Starcraft: Ghost an MMOFPS something akin to Planetside where you control an individual unit (ghost, marine, firebat) in a realm of hundreds online at once, my sleeping schedule is going to be in for a world of hurt.
- Harabeck, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2That should be how they do a starcraft mmo.
- RetlawST, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1It would certainly follow the Warcraft development process. WCI, WCII, failed WC game, WCIII, WOW.
SC (let's be honest, this game was in development for so long it might as well have been 2 different games from first screen shots to actual release), failed SC game, SCII, WOS. - rishid, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1World of Starcraft.. sounds better to me.
- tidefan94, on 07/01/2008, -13/+6I really hope it's not World of Starcraft or anything like that, it's too predictable and then it would put Blizzard in having to continue "Worlding" their franchises. I hope that since they are already working on all 3 of their main franchises right now, they are allowed to stretch their creative wings and do something really good.
- Protoss, on 07/02/2008, -0/+50Universe of Starcraft.
- jmoh, on 07/02/2008, -0/+24Starcraft Universe sounds nicer in my opinion.
- Acglaphotis, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7Yeah it sounds nicer, but they could make like * of * a series.
- wonderchemist, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7I think a Starcraft based MMO is more likely than a Diablo based MMO.
- Noctem, on 07/02/2008, -2/+1I like the sounds of 'Starcraft Galaxies'
Guess we just gotta wait and see!
*wipes drool of chin in anticipation of SC2* - Myonosken, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2EVE meets WoW meets Starcraft: five nerds hospitalised for heart attacks
- geoff1210, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3World of Sanctuary
- Acglaphotis, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Man, that would so kick ass.
- cococrispies, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3World of Heroin Hero?
- sg7791, on 07/02/2008, -3/+1What's wrong with predictable? World of Starcraft sounds wonderful to me.
- positron, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3On the day they announce a Starcraft MMO, S. Korea will declare a national emergency as the heads of fanboys across the country explode en masse.
- Nitesmoke, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Worlds of Starcraft
- Knightshadow23, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2Ya, because Blizzard is so original with there games. They didn't totally rip off Warhammer and Warhammer 40k when they made Warcraft and Starcraft. Don't get me wrong I think Starcraft is probably the best RTS ever made but calling Blizzard original is just wrong.
- khalorei, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2No computer RPG has ever been original, DnD did everything possible with the genre before computer gaming existed.
/sarcasm
- khalorei, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2No computer RPG has ever been original, DnD did everything possible with the genre before computer gaming existed.
- Protoss, on 07/02/2008, -0/+50Universe of Starcraft.
- JustAn0th3rFace, on 07/01/2008, -4/+31I would love to see what they come up with next. A new franchise would be great. As for another new MMO? I really don't think so. That would mean Blizzard would have two MMO's on the market competing with eachother. People would most likely not buy both. Personally, I think this would happen only when WoW starts to make a large downturn.. and those days are still far off.
"And as for a release date on any of the three known titles? "We ship the games when they're ready," Pardo commented. "You guys know this." And this is why i will continue to buy your games, Blizzard. I love your attitude. The whole industry should try hard to duplicate what you have done with your games. Bravo.- Tribunis, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8You never know, if they are planning an unannounced next-gen game now, when they plan on releasing it in 2010/11 Wrath of the Lich King will probably be losing gamers as end game guilds are farming content. At this point, if they can catch gamers with a new mmo, they win.
If you pick up gamers while they're still gaming and still having 'fun' by introducing them to something completely new, not only to you transfer all your subscribers but you pick up some dwindling ones.
Usually, once people have left the gaming community for a month or so, they stay out.- Xondar, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Back when WoW was in development, they were rushed to get it out the door at the end because Vivendi was getting antsy and the game wasn't making any money.
Now with WoW surpassing everyone's wildest expectations and raking in $160 million a month, Blizzard can afford to start developing a new MMO now and release it whenever they want.
In other words, I agree that they may very well wait until WoW's subscription numbers start going down. They can afford to wait, even if it takes 10 years.
- Xondar, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Back when WoW was in development, they were rushed to get it out the door at the end because Vivendi was getting antsy and the game wasn't making any money.
- bigthecat, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3But it is an MMO, that's what the job listings describe.
As for which franchise it is in or if it's a new one it'll be a while before we find that out - Gizza, on 07/02/2008, -1/+9If they are making another MMO it is probably at least 3 years away. So its not totally unreasonable. For all we know it could even simply be WoW 2.
- IndigoMoss, on 07/02/2008, -2/+2Well WoW is starting to get old and stale, at least in my eyes. I think a new MMO from Blizzard will help them compete against the new MMOs like Warhammer. I think Warhammer might actually take a big part of WoW's market if they release it fully polished and so far they are saying they won't release it until they feel it's done, much like Blizzard's mantra.
- geoff1210, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Cannibalism. If blizzard thinks they can gain more subscribers with both games combined, they will allow one game to cannibalized the other, in the hopes of having more market share under their control.
- Yazilliclick, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6Do you realize how many other MMOs other companies have out there? Having two or more MMOs is not a bad thing at all, lots will play both and anyways, by the time that this new MMO is released it will be well into the period that WoW is shedding players. It also brings up the possibility of a joint pricing, ie. $25/mo to play both games or something which a lot of people would do and is great for blizz since you're really only going to be playing one - which means more money in their pocket for not much extra work.
- Yamoth, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7We're talking about blizzard right? The same company that takes 5+ years to release WoW from the anouncement date (I think). If blizzard is being blizzard, the next generation MMO won't be out for another good 3 or 4 years from now and it will be polished to a shine.
- SoulGrub, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7By the time this comes out, WoW players will be looking for a next-gen MMo anyway...
- znicket, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2If Blizzard is not ready to cannibalize the market share of WOW then they run the risk of somebody else entering the market and doing that.
They need to innovate and come up with new segments of gaming to lure the "other" players out there.
For myself - I'm sick and tired of Fantasy world setting and would definitely go for a space conquest sci fi setting (EVE is a bit too much for me though). - Kreios, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1well think of it like this... they could just tack it on to the current WoW subscription... EG: you already have wow? ok well for 5 bucks play GoS(Galaxy of starcraft) on the same account !!!"
that is how i always thought it would be
- Tribunis, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8You never know, if they are planning an unannounced next-gen game now, when they plan on releasing it in 2010/11 Wrath of the Lich King will probably be losing gamers as end game guilds are farming content. At this point, if they can catch gamers with a new mmo, they win.
- Crash1337, on 07/01/2008, -3/+56World of Warcraft has been out for nearly 4 years, and it was probably in development for 3 - 4 years before that as well....
With this new MMO i don't expect it to be out for another 2-3 years, by then WOW would have been out for quiet a while and it would be a good time for Blizzard to release something a bit newer and updated.
And i would put my money on it and say that its WOW II- punkcat, on 07/02/2008, -2/+17even though they said it wasnt related to WoW?
- cleonm, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3They said it wasn't related to a WoW expansion.
- SillyRabbits, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Based on past experience with Blizzard development cycles, you are being way too optimistic with the timeline. It has all the sounds of a project 5 years, or more, from release.
- dc5mike, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3wow wont die in 2-3 years, trust me.
- lantza, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Agreed. Considering the current expansion has added roughly two years to the lifetime of WoW (Jan 2007 - Late 2008), the upcoming expansion will probably add another 2 years on to the game (starting in late 2008 or early 2009). However if and when they stop adding content on a consistent basis, the game will more or less die off since the population is top heavy (max level characters with nothing else to do in game will leave).
- Crosshare, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1All you have to do is look at the people that still go back to Everquest for evidence of this.
- djHBRD, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1WoW is just barely struggling as far as burnout goes, mainly because of the lack of content released between the end of Black Temple (Summer 2007) and the start of Sunwell (April 2008). BC has already lasted a year and a half as Lantza posted, which is pretty good as far as MMO expansions are concerned. EQ1 was releasing new expansions every 6 months, I think. WoW is definitely not hurting for new subscribers, or any form of complete overhaul.
- punkcat, on 07/02/2008, -2/+17even though they said it wasnt related to WoW?
- sbader, on 07/01/2008, -4/+29My pipe dream is that Blizzard is going to make a Vampire The Masquerade/World of Darkness MMO in cooperation with White Wolf, since White Wolf does pen and paper warcraft. An environment like that would be new, different and offer lots of opportunities for innovation in the main stream MMO genre.
- Acglaphotis, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9That sounds pretty cool actually.
- Peko, on 07/02/2008, -1/+10Do we really need another reason for goths not to have any friends?
- n4tune8, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2There is certainly enough material from WoD to make an MMO. That could be interesting. You can play a Vampire, a Werewolf, a "Mage". And when you die, you become a Wraith! Muhaha. I guess Blizzard has the budget to make it happen, because there will be a lot of development involved.
- wildone71, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3I believe that CCP, makers of Eve Online, have the White Wolf I.P. in the works.
- Brenwolf, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3I think the people who made Eve Online have already secured the rights to make a WoD MMO. It's being made as we speak.
- zambuka, on 07/02/2008, -1/+9Too late. CCP, makers of EVE are making the WoD MMO. In 2006 CCP and White Wolf completed a merger.
See linky
http://www.ccpgames.com/company/merger.asp
for further information.
In my opinion, as good as Blizzard's games are, CCPs business model and design philosophy will produce a better WoD MMO than Blizzard could.- warlokaz2004, on 07/02/2008, -2/+0CCP bought White Wolf and a "World of Darkness" Online game was a big reason behind the merger.
That said, I found Eve boring -- instead of 'grinding' for levels you 'grind' for money to learn the talents you need for equipment...and instead of folk ignoring you because you are a 'low level noob' they ignore you because you "have less than 2 milion ability points"
The sound track was nice -- but the graphics are dull and uninspiring...then again I'm still angry EA killed "Earth and Beyond"
As for white wolf -- I signed out on their "World of Darkness" after the 2004 reset -- for every improvement made to Vampire, Mage got shafted, and I decided their games were no longer worth my time.
a "Starcraft Online" would be definite plus for folk seeking a 'space' online game -- the "sword and Sorcery" Genre is over saturated with WoW, Dark Age of Camelot, D&D Online, Lord of the Rings Online and Everquest. For Space based you have Star Wars Galaxies (great planet based but sucky space) and eVe (great space based but no planet side) as well as the empty promises of a Star Trek and Startgate MMO. - sbader, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1That's awesome news actually, never played eve, but i'll most definitely try their version of wod.
- warlokaz2004, on 07/02/2008, -2/+0CCP bought White Wolf and a "World of Darkness" Online game was a big reason behind the merger.
- Kosher1947, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Well people have already beat me too it. Also any WoD game from now on is going to be in the New WoD, and so won't really be the old game.
- RainNIU, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Dude, I would play that game in a f*cking heartbeat over WoW...
- wulfstein, on 07/02/2008, -1/+149Knowing Blizzard, it's gonna be another kickass game on their list of kickass games.
- EgaoNoGenki, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2World of Diablo?
- 1gunners4, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Do you think they ever get bored and say "Hey, guys, let's make a game that is really mediocre!"? I mean... It's like Hugh Grant; he was boning Elizabeth Hurley and every other hot model on the planet, but eventually got sick of it and boned a hideous prostitute.
- skamper, on 07/02/2008, -1/+32Actually it'll probably be called Universe of Starcraft, seeing as there are many worlds.
- RoboRay, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8Worlds of Starcraft would make more sense, from a branding standpoint.
- Alegoo92, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Starcraft Universe?
- SoulGrub, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Yep. Starcraft 2 will probably setup the Starcraft MMO. Don't expect to fight Kerrigan until the 2nd expansion....
- banido, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3How exactly would a StarCraft MMO work? Leveling up, weapons, loot, items, money, quests?
Could I be a zergling or a hydralisk going to some zerg shop and buy a new pair of +50damage claws with 50 minerals and 25 vespene gas before I go kill space hogs to level up and then take that quest where I have to search for some Xel'Naga crystal?- SoulGrub, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Might not be an rpg. Could be a mmorts or mmofps perhaps.
- RetlawST, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2They could take a really neat evolution approach to the Zerg, having everybody start out as a probe, and as they level up they can choose different augmentations and morph into the classes they want to be.
- betterth, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3The zerg wouldn't be playable as the zerg are controlled by the overmind (or whatever it's called, it's been too long since I've played starcraft!)
Unless they pulled a WoW Undead style move where some Zerg pull away, but I dunno, I still think Zerg wouldn't be a playable class. Protoss and Humans definitely could be.
- santiawesome, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0"Galaxy Sector of Starcraft"
hmm... nah
- RoboRay, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8Worlds of Starcraft would make more sense, from a branding standpoint.
- galvo, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6The end is near.
- zolf, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1The time is now.
- 0Xonox0, on 07/02/2008, -10/+9Whatever it is, I hope its free to play like WoW was originally supposed to be.
- dzw120, on 07/02/2008, -2/+1Can almost definitely say it won't be, though, seeing as they know that millions of people are willing to open up their wallets for MMO playtime.
I, for one, am happy paying a fee though, if that's what it takes for all those loot/dungeon updates. But for how much cash they roll in, they really need to step up the class-balancing act, especially in PVP. Shamans were hilariously bad when I quit, while warriors were the kings of every bracket.- Kormiku, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1hasn't changed much buddy, shamans still suck and warriors are still good
- Sarevok9, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Lies, shammies are decent, OP in pve...
Warriors, druids, locks, and rogues all dominate arena.
- Halsfield, on 07/02/2008, -2/+2im really ok with paying a fee for true mmo's, they usually require in-game help to solve a lot of problems and many hotfixes/constant patching/etc that you just cant do long-term on box profits alone.
- morninglorii, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3If WoW was free to play, Blizzard would be making hundreds of millions of dollars less than they are now, and you wouldn't have Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 to look forward to anytime soon.
- JigoroKano, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1You are assuming they would have shipped the same software with the same features.
Imagine if they were to ship the basic game for $60, and all content expansions for $30... breaking up all content updates into packages that must be purchased.
Also included would be an online store of some sort, where one could purchase in game items for real money.
And last one must consider the advertisement revenues and larger audience that a Free2Play game would generate.
I don't think it's really clear how revenues would compare. - morninglorii, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I see your point, but I think you'd have to have some mighty big successes in those areas to make up for the loss of $13/mo from 10 million people every month.
- JigoroKano, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1You are assuming they would have shipped the same software with the same features.
- dzw120, on 07/02/2008, -2/+1Can almost definitely say it won't be, though, seeing as they know that millions of people are willing to open up their wallets for MMO playtime.
- rwallen, on 07/02/2008, -3/+34I didn't realize this wasn't known. Blizzard has had job postings for a "top secret MMO" up on their site for a while now:
http://www.blizzard.com/us/jobopp/- koanage, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4I think this is just reconfirming that they weren't referring to Diablo 3 as the next-gen MMO before Saturday's announcement (even though Diablo really isn't an MMO - I know).
- Yazilliclick, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2Which is still pretty much common knowledge since if you checked their job postings all their D3 jobs are marked as D3 and yet there are still next-gen MMO postings.
- koanage, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4I think this is just reconfirming that they weren't referring to Diablo 3 as the next-gen MMO before Saturday's announcement (even though Diablo really isn't an MMO - I know).

I'm looking at you FSM- inhaler, on 07/02/2008, -3/+7Dug for pastafarian reference.
- pr0t0, on 07/02/2008, -12/+3Guild Wars is an NCSoft franchise. Perhaps you were thinking of Warcraft?
- Fozefy, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4Just because Blizzard makes good games, it doesn't mean good game can't be made by other companies. Now go back to your WoW hole.
- yargthepirate, on 07/02/2008, -1/+8ArenaNet was founded by ex-Blizzard employees. You lose, good day sir.
- pr0t0, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1RockeN5 hit the nail on the head. I read that like requiem3 was reading off a list of Blizzard games.
I've played every expansion of Guildwars...never played WoW.
- RockeN5, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6pr0t0, he's talking about games that we're excited for sequels to come out.
- Brad324, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4ramen
- Suprfire, on 07/02/2008, -0/+34Blizzard is going to destroy the gaming market.
For PC's at least :)
Everyone is going to be indulging in a blizzard game!- MercFox1, on 07/02/2008, -0/+21You know, you're pretty close to the overall strategy I'm starting to see here. While you have developers like Crytek whining about how "weak" the PC market is, Blizzard is hedging their bets against such an attitude and throwing their full force into the very much alive and ripe PC market. If one of, if not the best, developers in gaming ever, is doing this, what does it say to how fragile the PC market is?
- Yazilliclick, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9Everybody with common sense knows it's not fragile. A lot of the other long standing developers for PC might not be doing as well as they hoped on the platform but that's namely because they've ruined their reputation here and have consistently hurt their fans. Not so with Blizzard who has a great history of releasing top quality products in pretty darn good form compared to most.
- Slackdragon, on 07/02/2008, -0/+12Blizzard and Valve have always held the course and proven that if you give a solid, quality product at a reasonable price you don't have to be a whiny bitch like Crytech.
- AVigorVermin, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1it's fragile because Blizzard OWNS the PC market. No one has money left for other games.
- thespiff, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1It's not a lack of money, it's a lack of time left to play other games. Blizzard games are addictive and can consume your life. For example, with the announcement of Diablo 3, I just booted D2 back up and am rebuilding my Strafazon from scratch...
- 1gunners4, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Make a game that can rival a Blizzard product and it will get plenty of play-time (heellllooo, Orange Box).
- Genrre, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Must... Resist... Crack 2.0...
- MercFox1, on 07/02/2008, -0/+21You know, you're pretty close to the overall strategy I'm starting to see here. http://smashum.com/gameplay-footage-of-diablo-3- Dested, on 07/02/2008, -0/+20Oh, we've seen it.
- giantsfan134, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Why wouldn't you just stream/dl it from Blizzard? The video quality is so much better, and it isn't cut in half.
http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/media/- boing11, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Why are people digging this up? It's nothing more than spam ... you diggers are weird.
- kinseyincanada, on 07/02/2008, -0/+12i think its going to be an original IP
- Yazilliclick, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I'd say you're right. I doubt Blizzard would want to give any amount of control over to a 3rd party with a new franchise, especially one that's starting as large as having an MMO.
- Kvasaari, on 07/02/2008, -1/+6I hope so, World of Starcraft would be so lame.
- dylio, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Alright, I've had enough of this.
Original IP, non-original IP, GODSEND OF AN IP.
WHAT IN FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER'S NAME DOES IP STAND FOR? (sorry for caps lock)
Is the acronym spelled out too long to type or something? Sweet Raptor Jesus.- Fishn2, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Intellectual property.
- dylio, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1thank you.
- AlexanderZero, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1It's hard to say what the new MMO could be. Maybe they are working on it to release after Wrath of the Lich king has been out for a while. Does this signal the end of WoW?
- Halsfield, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2i think you are wrong to think that another blizzard mmo would kill their first mmo. Instead think of it as everyone now having an account in each mmo, doubling their $$.
- SilverBlade2k, on 07/02/2008, -5/+4Galaxy of Starcraft..
- Acglaphotis, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1And then it would be followed by Universe of [what?], it makes more sense to be called Universe.

- trafficlight, on 07/02/2008, -2/+0This is completely valid. I'm tired of where games are going. It's just more of the same. World of Grand Theft Boring 16.
Come on you guys, let's try something new and different.
The only game I'm looking forward to is Spore. As far as I can tell, they are the only people even trying.- NeoSporin, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Where video games are going? If you go back to the Nintendo games, do you think most of the games were revolutionary?

- chaos7, on 07/02/2008, -0/+10they probably will at some point...but not with SC2 coming out
- wrathofg0d, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Whatever it is, it will be announced about a year from now.
- ScarabLordCoral, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Most likely earlier, I'll bet they reveal it during their '08 BlizzCon event, which they've stated they only host if they have a new game to announce.
- Dohko_Xar, on 07/02/2008, -9/+2is this a joke?
- Aurabolt, on 07/02/2008, -9/+2"Starcraft: Ghost Online?"
That would be awesome.- Aurabolt, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4Yeah on second thought, bury me, Ghost didn't look that good anyway, now that I think about it
- Bebel, on 07/02/2008, -0/+73God dammit Blizzard, you need to stop. My education and career are going to come to an abrupt halt if you keep coming out with these damn good games.
- Malarie, on 07/02/2008, -3/+18We need something completely new from Blizzard. Yes their 3 franchises are awesome, but it would be great to see something else..
- yohnstoppable, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Agreed. I love the Diablo ip, and that one is the most original of their ips. I'd be excited to see what they can come up with now.
- InverGoatie, on 07/02/2008, -1/+0is the overuse of the 'ip' acronym really necessary?! I mean when you expand it it doesn't even read well!
- yohnstoppable, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Agreed. I love the Diablo ip, and that one is the most original of their ips. I'd be excited to see what they can come up with now.
- jdubdub, on 07/02/2008, -4/+27OI! Get back to work on Diablo 3! Every day without D3 is a day without sanity... *sob*
- Alstroph, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5Luckily for us they have different teams for different games.
- Fozefy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Actually, I was thinking the opposite...
- BillMoocho, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Agreed. Move all the employees from this MMO and release D3 sooner.
- hatchetbearer, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2personally i would rater have one close knit team working as one than a fleet of people half assing it
- ParaSwarm, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I hear you, jdubdub. I hear you.
- roguent, on 07/02/2008, -3/+7"This is the sequel to the best resource management game ever! Millions of people have gone through multiple upgrades on their computers and still run this game. There are still Starcraft tournaments with cash prizes for the winner! Blizzard is notorious for moving release dates but releasing a SOUND product. One that works out of the box and isn't riddled with programming bugs. Their track record allows me to trust that eventually another classic will be released."
http://www.jackpicks.com/2008/06/starcraft-ii-info ...- boerema, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Honestly, Blizzard really doesn't have to worry about moving release dates because they have always said, "We will release it when it is done, not before." That gives me a lot of respect for them. They aren't concerned with releasing at some fabricated deadline because when they release a game, people buy them. They buy them because Blizzard will always release a great product and they will work their asses off to make it even better after release.
- ChinezePanda, on 07/02/2008, -1/+110You know what I have come to terms with...
Blizzard has me chained by the nutsack.
I quit wow for 2 months... and by quit.. I mean.. I STILL ***** PAID FOR IT EVEN THOUGH I DIDNT PLAY.
Then D3 got announced.. My girl looked at me and said...
"Face it.. There is no escape. You are Blizzard's bitch"
/sigh.... she is so right.- Vodd9, on 07/02/2008, -0/+25Everyone will soon be their bitch. Trust me, you're not alone. :(
- Halsfield, on 07/02/2008, -0/+36they're a good dominatrix/jail-cell pimp though, they treat you right when they turn out the light. Most other companies just take your money and give you a reach-around that leaves you raw and bleeding at the wallet.

- Mish48, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2I'd say it's deeply concerning that your girl knows not only the specific games you play, but the maker of those games.
- Halsfield, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5our breaking news story here on channel 11: girls have brains. next up, they arent scary to talk to, and most of them have pretty cool interests, maybe even...pc gaming O_O.
- Zaggynl, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4Um, at least you have a girl :/
- franklyzappa, on 07/02/2008, -1/+10Anyone want to meet up and play some Goldeneye?
- logload, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3because 3 huge games wasn't enough..
- Halsfield, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0blizzard definitely likes to be king of the ring, all the rings.
- cerealjynx, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5Blackthorne Online!
- ronintetsuro, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1It'd better not be. The D3 footage already caused me to nerdgasm out loud at work. Can't afford another one of those.
- FredPT, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Now THAT would be awesome
- LLamaStar, on 07/02/2008, -1/+8It's a sci-fi. think of it like this...
cartoony fantasy = warcraft
cartoony sci-fi = starcraft
hardcore fantasy = diablo
hardcore sci-fi = new mmo.- Halsfield, on 07/02/2008, -3/+1id love to see something like mass-effect/KotoR on an mmo level. They really did a great job with those games as far as depth of story, skills, and keeping it interesting.
- Yazilliclick, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5Wrong company. And the company you're talking about, Bioware, is working on an MMO.
- Halsfield, on 07/02/2008, -3/+2wow, you are stupid. did i say it was made by them? or did i say that i would like to see blizzard make a game similar in setting and depth like mass-effect and kotor? the word "they" was implying the bioware company did a good job, that =/= me thinking it was made by blizzard. ive played almost all of blizzards games and almost every bioware game, you think i dont know the difference between the two?
jesus.
- moo2u2, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2that formula = brilliant
now i'm 10x as psyched for it!! - Alstroph, on 07/02/2008, -1/+7Would you really call starcraft cartoony?
- Kormiku, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2yes
- Halsfield, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0im thinking the word might be better identified as stylized. it has nothing to do with acme and/or road running.
my understanding of this release was that it would be a new title altogether, nothing to do with any previous titles. - 1gunners4, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1If you click on a random mob too much it blows up...

- Zaeth, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13not dug for the dug for the X reference line!
- Alstroph, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4I've never been in this office before.
- Boofster, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Let's go raid the boss.
- Ceryn1126, on 07/02/2008, -7/+3dug for the ONION reference
- hokie47, on 07/02/2008, -7/+1I think they need to learn to finish.
- boerema, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Bad form, sir. That would be like telling Pixar, "Hey, can you stop making movies, please? I know that all of them are incredible and entertaining and make you loads of money, but we think you need to quit."
No thanks

- spacebuddy, on 07/02/2008, -5/+11WOW is getting old, we need something new with better graphics
- punkcat, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6just one more epic..and i'll quit.
- Slackdragon, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2WoW should do like CCP did with Eve... a Premium Content package if you have the hardware to push it and an classic pack if you're still running older hardware.
In Eve, it's like night and day. Self shadowing, new high poly ship models, better partical effects, new textures, HDR bloom, etc... Same game, just more graphical punch if you got the processing power to push it. - HallsOfMandos, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Would you say the graphics need to be 'tighter?'
- meanfish, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I'd say so. Especially on level three.
- boerema, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I have to say that I have never thought WoW had bad graphics. Perhaps my frame of reference coming from Everquest in the dark ages and Runescape before I had self-respect clouds my senses.
- Bluestump86, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2World of Starcraft FTW
imagine running around as a protoss pwning the ***** out of everything
P.S. Duck Sauce Anyone?- moo2u2, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Live for the Swarm!

- Zaeth, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3work work work
- GreyICE, on 07/02/2008, -0/+10As a finale, Blizzard announces its dominance of the known universe.
- Sanderson9009, on 07/02/2008, -1/+38I hope it's "Hello Kitty's Island Adventure!"
- tomarnk, on 07/02/2008, -2/+0QFT
- SeekerDarksteel, on 07/02/2008, -1/+9Starcraft MMOFPS, Blizzard.
Doo eet!- 42Vindictive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I don't think Blizzard would be good at FPS. I think they'd somehow screw it up.
- Greg535, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Just like the Command and Conquer series... (which I also loved)
- 42Vindictive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1I don't think Blizzard would be good at FPS. I think they'd somehow screw it up.
- hckyplyr, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0in for 1. Sight unseen.
- mlvassallo, on 07/02/2008, -1/+6Rock n Roll Racing MMO imo.
- ronintetsuro, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Ye gods. Productivity would be officially null, all at the hands of Blizzard.
- Halsfield, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5i really hope its not just a money-grab mmo like a lot of them are these days. I hope they really try to make a solid, intelligently designed, TRUE next-gen era mmo. Blizzard absolutely has the funds to do a really amazing game and i just hope they dont drop the ball and give us a bland fantasy rpgmmo. Knowing blizzard they have something interesting in the works, but it could be great, or it could be mind-boggling fun like d1/d2 , starcraft/warcraft, and even WoW were in their heydays.
WoW had its moments, but everyone and their mother's software company is making that kind of mmo these days to get a piece of the WoW/eq1 pie. Let's move on to something better. - BigBoyBoobs, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Warcraft III then WoW
Starcraft 2 then >>>>World of Starcraft
Just wait and see... they're going to ride the story and mythology just like they did with Warcraft.- SoulGrub, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Yea I'm thinking they will introduce a couple new races in Starcraft 2 that will become playable in the MMO. I hope they're not that predictable though.
- moo2u2, on 07/02/2008, -0/+0Xel'naga + protoss/zerg hybrids anyone?
- zolf, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Why a single world? "Galaxy of Starcraft" is much better! Almost GOSu :P
- SoulGrub, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Yea I'm thinking they will introduce a couple new races in Starcraft 2 that will become playable in the MMO. I hope they're not that predictable though.
- teamgwho, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6Like it reeeealy matters what it is? With D3 probably coming out next year, and SC2 and eventually WOW4, I figured they had already secured their official license to print money.
- morninglorii, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2WOW 4? Aren't you jumping the gun a little?
- 42Vindictive, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Hell no, I've already put a down payment on WOW 9.
- thespiff, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1We won't see D3 for several years. Who knows if we'll even see SC2 next year...
- RainNIU, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1Pack a lunch, dude. D3 won't be out for at least 1.5 years...
- morninglorii, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2WOW 4? Aren't you jumping the gun a little?
- onizukasuplex, on 07/02/2008, -14/+1OMG Here's a leak of what it's gonna be
