- megabytehl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+51Half-life : Source fell short of fan expectations. Valve (directly) ported the maps, upped the res on the textures, swapped out weapon models, added a few skyboxes and called it a day. The community wasn't content leaving it at just that. So a two prevelant mod teams formed together to start this project, where their objective is a spiritual remake of Half-Life, done right. Literally from scratch no ported maps, as few "upped" res textures as possible. We're talking new character models, new weapons models, new enemy models, new enemy AI, as much updated conent/technology they can cram into the game Valve has already said that "it is inevitable" that someone will remake the original with the tools given to them. So it was only a matter of time.
- odysseus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Now, where's the official Team Fortress Classic: Source that Valve promised?
- BMLevelDesigner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11What's up guys, glad to see BM is being digged. I have been working on the multi player section for the game, and it's been a hell of a lot of fun. As to the comments above, we cannot make money but we are in constant contact with VALVe about the mod and how things are flowing.
- _Caboose_, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I've been following it for a while too, but that doesn't mean that everyone else is. Believe it or not, some people haven't ever heard of this mod. That alone makes it worth being on digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9these guys should be hired to make duke nukem forever ;)
- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Perhaps their objective is to get noticed for the mod, and then PAID by a company that says "here's the game you're making. Here's your checks."
- vatechtigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7why shouldnt they do this. I think almost anyone who loved the original ( i replayed it quite a few times) would like a crack at it using full source physics and graphics. They have taken out some of ***** things (repetitive banging of the monster in the silo tht drives everyone crazy. Some changes to zen i hope as well) and expanded on some of the cooler areas of the game. hey for something people are doing on their free time and that looks so good now, I commend thee.
- chamblah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6TF source: http://www.fortress-forever.com/
It's a user mod for HL2. it's not from Valve, since it seems they've pretty much stopped anything to do with TFC. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@megabytehl
Haha, that's awesome. I just happend to be reading your post while listening to the second audio tack on the site, and the music went great with the your list of new additions. At first it was nice and slow while you were explaining everything, then It just kicked into gear when you started listing the new features, and finished right when I was done. It would make a great comercial (just the text with a black background and the music playing). Just though I'd point that out - ComputerGuru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7yes. as a matter of fact, it has to be, they do not have a commecial liceso for this work :)
digg++ - V1ncent, on 10/12/2007, -18/+23What's the difference between this and Half Life: Source, the original HL already done on the Source Engine?
- megabytehl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Valve has turned down every screenplay brought to them, apparently none of them do HL justice. I don't really believe the silver screen could contain a character like gordon freeman.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow. The level of detail is fantastic and the design choices are great - I love the entire look of this "mod" from top to bottom. It's amazing what a small group of guys can do with access to the right tools and enough time. Kudos to the Black Mesa: Source team.
- Madh2orat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"The html version is down, bite the bullet and go to the flash version" Well, i hope the flash version is somehow smaller, because if this stays on the homepage much longer, it'll be next week before you can get on.
- noghead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is great. It's going to be free right?
- vatechtigger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, Half life source blew. Basically just some nicer looking textures. All the same boxy effects. check out the screenshots. I cant wait for this. They have also changed some of the maps, expanded on some of the areas to let you explore, etc...
- fivemeyerflyer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I would almost digg this site for the website design alone
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Hopefully some will revisit half life and enjoy it as much as they did way back in 1997. Cheers it looks brilliant.
- vatechtigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4***** man, maybe in 1996 i could feel your pain. But there is no excuse in 2006 not to have broadband.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Incredible. This is one of the first mods I'm really looking forward to. Website is nicely designed, too.
- kefs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3really? i was thinking the exact opposite..
*ahem* how is HTML down for maint.. wtf?
sweet lookin mod though - BMLevelDesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it may be old news but still great to hear people out there enjoying our efforts.
- snub, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9http://media.pc.ign.com/media/684/684434/imgs_1.html
from those screens HL:Source looks like a joke - BMLevelDesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Gasworks W.I.P. http://forums.blackmesasource.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=243
I am working on Bounce, Gasworks, Crossfire, and prob Doublecross. Then I will be working with the single player guys on choreographed sequences, like the ending of hl2 how realistic it looked, I will be doing that with the scientist and grunt interactions. - cman2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3for those who don't enjoy the flash version of the site, check out our moddb profile;
http://mods.moddb.com/4384/Black-Mesa-Source/ - jbond03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2flash is sortof single file, while html includes alot more procesing from the web server and requests
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Out of curiosity, did v1ncent have to get modded down just for asking a question? I don't think he meant to troll.
- uniacid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I can't wait, finally someone is making a proper remake
- BMLevelDesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://atrocity.vertexninjas.com/crossfire_media_01.jpg
- mvnicosia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Half Life is my favorite FPS of all time. It was the first one I ever cared to finish (and I'd been playing them since Wolfenstein). But, I'll be honest, why do this? Why not put all this great creative energy into producing a game no one has played?
- exosyst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Okay thats pretty cool - Next on my list of upto date and faithful remakes. Tomb Raider 1 and 2!
- DeathSun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I may have wet myself.
This projects brings me back to my happy place. - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow I can't wait to play it...I'm finally going to start playing the first Half-Life tonight :P I beat HL2, but never beat HL1
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's awesome what the modding community can produce.
- funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Half-Life has one of the best game stories. I'm amazed it hasn't been opted for a movie yet.
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is like Classic DOOM for DOOM 3: http://cdoom.d3files.com/
- BMLevelDesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We don't have a specific date, however we do plan on making a demo :D
- cmw72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Too bad Steam sucks so bad that I can't even play the copy of HL2 I paid $60.00 for without being forced to download hundreds of megabytes over my crappy dial-up connection, even though I purchased the CD version and I'm not trying to play online.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://digg.com/gaming/Project_Goldeneye_needs_support_
Yes, I seen this today on digg after searching for goldeneye and just got posted 5 days ago, there is actually some hope I guess of at least the main guy who was doing it continuing. - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, indeed. If someone can record those and up them on a torrent somewhere I'd be very greatful. Joel Neilsen has some real talent! Too bad we can't buy his stuff anywhere...
- V1ncent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks for the reply megabytehl, I had no idea Valve did such a half-a-- job with their "port" to the Source engine which is why I asked the question.
I don't know what this modded down business is that ppl are talking about under my orig question but hey thanks to everyone that supplied the info to a ? I asked. - matthewecornish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This looks great :) Can't wait...
- BMLevelDesigner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Our next media release is planned to be a trailer, we have been hard at work at reworking all kinds of things. The screenshot of Buonce on the site has been re-done and some other areas have been spruced up. It's going to take awhile to complete but I'm sure when it's done it will break your teeth.
- AndyManCan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dunno about bad web-design, try the Flash version. It just bleeds black mesa environment! It make me more anxious for this game! I have never bought either of the Half Life games, so when this is available for download, I will be for sure trying it out. My tip to the crew working on this job is to release some kind of first level trailer program, where you can watch some of the intro and play the first level. I am curious as to how the re-working of ALL the media in the game will make it look. I eagerly await! It should be so awesome!
- DanAtkinson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is incredibly old news! Still, it does look sweet, doesn't it?! :)
- Dan™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man, that's bringing back memories.
- Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow that looks better than something Valve could do..
Very nice. - JAppi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think anyone wants that.
- megabytehl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's half-life 2 total conversion, meaning you're going to at least need HL2 to run even the demo. They can't legally distribute the engine for free, but they can distribute content for that engine for free.
- Lut3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want to hear extended versions of all the songs. Especially Surface Tension! (2nd song)
