- Wuffles, on 12/09/2007, -8/+180This list is *****. Some of the games listed were released in 2006 (Wii Sports). And there is a category for "Most Addictive Game Fueled by Dew". What does that say to you?
- spammishking, on 12/09/2007, -37/+148I'm just glad The Orange box won a couple....and that Halo 3 didn't win ( overrated )
- joltjake, on 12/09/2007, -12/+100Anyone else think that Portal deserved to win?
- DFENS, on 12/09/2007, -22/+100Bioshock was NOT game of the year. Best writing in a game? Done deal - Bioshock takes it home. But the gameplay was more then slightly repetitive. Sure, you COULD use all the fancy plasmids - or you could just Freeze+Wrench everyone an bust through the game. Meh.
My vote for game of the year is Portal. Best gaming experience i've had in many years, and one of the few games i've ever played more then twice through. Portal beat Bioshocks ass. - tektalk, on 12/09/2007, -2/+73There should be a category for "Most Addictive Game Fueled by Dew", it is legitimate, and doesn't imply any sponsorship influence whatsoever.
this message brought to you by PepsiCo™ - SemiSarcastic, on 12/09/2007, -2/+61You know what would have been funny?...If Kane and Lynch got the Game of the Year Award.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -2/+60It tells me that Dew creates addictive situations and that I should stop drinking it?
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -4/+61How does Bioshock win "Game of the Year" but doesn't win FPS of the year???
- cavie2002, on 12/09/2007, -4/+53bioshock to me was game of the year for the 5 hours it took me to beat it, after that it become dust collector of the year
- onionoino, on 12/09/2007, -3/+49Because the opinions of the people over at Spike are so worth my attention. Now excuse me i need to get back to my UFC programs, and then i think there might be a show that has something to do with cars.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -27/+71i feel galaxy deserved it. it's longer and has more of a range than bioshock. also, galaxy is the second-best ranked game ever. yeah, the last line kind of seals the deal.
EDIT: Galaxy was not a friggin option. and mass effect was. ***** you VGAs. - xerus, on 12/09/2007, -6/+47Bioshock won game of the year in the biggest joke award show in the industry. Grats.
- BlueSkyfish, on 12/09/2007, -6/+42I'm not really one to all conspiracy, but this whole list tends to favor Microsoft. The whole Halo3/Mountain dew sponsorship category kind of makes it obvious.
- BrandonMills, on 12/09/2007, -3/+34I'd have to vote Portal myself, but I know a lot of sites won't pick it due to game length alone. Which doesn't make sense. Short novels can be outstanding novels. Short movies can be outstanding movies. Why doesn't this translate into the video game industry?
- djruden, on 12/09/2007, -0/+28...followed by a commercial for Kane & Lynch.
- smurf22, on 12/09/2007, -18/+45Im all giddy like a school girl because halo 3 didn't win game of the year.
- Samsinite, on 12/09/2007, -2/+27Halo 3 did win a couple. The awards it won were best multi-player and most addictive.
- Metalcard, on 12/09/2007, -7/+31I don't think BioShock should have won. I played it, loved it, started playing my second time through and realized, "Wait, this is the same f****** game! Not a bit different accept for some dialog and the ending!" The lack of replayablity killed it for me.
My Thoughts. - BugMeNot2, on 12/09/2007, -10/+34Team Fortress 2 should have gotten the award.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -1/+21I did not even notice BioShock had music.
- cozamonkey, on 12/09/2007, -2/+21Thanks for posting this so early, I wasn't really planning on watching the show. Some winners were a little surprising but the list overall was not.
- f4nt0m4s, on 12/09/2007, -5/+23 because, spike is to video game awards as FOX is to news...duh
- xerus, on 12/09/2007, -7/+24Galaxy isnt a sci-fi epic first person shooter, so Spike TV isn't interested. Plus I'm pretty sure most of these awards are buy ins.
- Zapita, on 12/09/2007, -3/+20>>Game of the Year nominees: BioShock, Halo 3, Mass Effect, The Orange Box
and mario galaxy wasn't even nominated? i don't say it would win but..
ok..i understand with a category like Most Addictive Game Fueled by Dew, this must not be serious - AdmiralJimbob, on 12/09/2007, -0/+17Sponsored by Gamespot.
- Sroek, on 12/09/2007, -0/+17You don't really "beat" games anymore, since they're usually made for the cinematic experience. We're no longer in the 8 and 16-bit days where there's limited lives and no saves.
- h4mx0r, on 12/09/2007, -3/+19I'm playing Bioshock right now and I will say: It's a game with impressive art design and a somewhat immersive game world, but it's missing a few elements that would make it awesome. And no, multiplayer is not one of those missing elements.
- louiedog, on 12/09/2007, -0/+16What about Mass Effect? Every single line of dialog and a lot of the codex had good voice acting. There is more voiced dialog in that game than gameplay hours in Portal, and it's done very well. Portal would be a close second for me though. I didn't play Heavenly Sword.
- avatarpalin, on 12/09/2007, -2/+17I agree, I have been playing Team Fortress 2 and boy I just can't stop....
- JasonCox, on 12/09/2007, -6/+21If it's on Spike then I dont give a flying crap.
- sevenalive, on 12/09/2007, -2/+16Its the only ps3 game, ya i just had to do it.
- quamb, on 12/09/2007, -7/+20not to add to this mob - but I just didn't find bioshock that enjoyable. Always seemed to be in the dark not being able to see anything then runnning from annoying security drones all the time - whilst running out of ammo. Then again, maybe I just sucked.
And Mass Effect I've heard is plagued with gameplay issues, and Halo 3 was well... Halo.
In anycase, this year in video games was definitely about HYPE and $$$. Moreso then ever. - inactive, on 12/09/2007, -1/+13you might want to have that looked @.
- f4nt0m4s, on 12/09/2007, -4/+16i thought the Orange Box was easily the most complete FPS package you could buy this year, and with Portal being pretty much the most amazing ***** single player puzzle game I have EVER played it's tough to not consider the package for Game of the Year. Team Fortress 2 is the most well polished multiplayer I have ever seen, and HL2's single player still is pretty fun.
Like the academy awards, who gives a *****....if it's fun for you play. For me, the Orange Box is what gaming is all about. - kuhlmeye, on 12/09/2007, -0/+12Short movies can indeed be outstanding, but let me know when a short movie wins best picture.
- schoate09, on 12/09/2007, -1/+13A few, but most multiplatforms were better on the 360, usually the most popular too. Folklore = crap, Heavenly sword bombed, DiRT was not that great, Motorstorm was an Ok racing game, and Warhawk is fun, but the 360 has much better multiplayer games.
There's reasons I've traded in my PS3, and I don't regret it. - ronnsprocket, on 12/09/2007, -3/+15some other awards: (from wikipedia)

Most Addictive Video game Fueled by Dew: Halo 3 - louiedog, on 12/09/2007, -1/+12If there was a category for best song I'd agree. I don't think it deserves winning best score.
- Uranium118, on 12/09/2007, -1/+12Stop hating, it's getting old. It is popular and you hate it for that. Over a million people are enjoying the game. Your loss if you don't like it, no need to bash it.
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -4/+15COD4 is a masterpiece. It has ruined my life j/k
- inlove, on 12/09/2007, -0/+10Perhaps you should find some other site to hang around?
- hassanchop13, on 12/09/2007, -1/+10because no first person shooter has EVER, i repeat EVER been any good simply due to the popularity of the genre. clearly, only non popular games are ever any good.
/sarcasm - BassCadet, on 12/09/2007, -1/+10There is no "platformer" category, you moron. Platformers are, by definition, action games.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -2/+11Portal needed a mention for most funny.
- mrfreeziexp, on 12/09/2007, -10/+19ME was good, but not better then Mario.. The only reason ME was up there was because of the hype.
- inactive, on 12/09/2007, -0/+8Its not a serious category why are you flipping out about it.
- BrandonMills, on 12/09/2007, -8/+16I'll accept that. I'd say Orange Box given TF2 and Portal in it, but I can accept Bioshock as a legit pick for GOTY.
- completerobot, on 12/09/2007, -3/+11Do you actually have any reasons for that comment, or are you just spewing *****?
- completerobot, on 12/09/2007, -0/+8Well, that's not saying much, given that you can play through Portal three times in the length of time you'd spend playing most games.
- Shaflugi, on 12/09/2007, -4/+12Multiplayer doesn't get much better than TF2. How Halo won out over it is beyond me.
