BioShock: Elevating Gaming As Art To Levels Previously Unattained
primotechnology.com — Few games in recent memory succeed on so many levels as BioShock. It's horrifying, mesmerizing, and entirely visceral, but above all else, it ’s a gaming experience unlike any other that came before it.

- p2im0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0the big daddies are a PITA to fight. Couldn't ask for anything more in the environments, textures, gameplay style though. Great game.
- Pifman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7God I can't wait to play this game, yeah those are some crazy screenshots.
- TalkingBanana, on 10/10/2007, -3/+35Bioshock: Digg's new iPhone? No complaints here, I am definately getting this.
- codered1322, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1iBioshock? No complaints either.

- dumuzi, on 10/10/2007, -15/+4@talkingBanana Wait until Halo 3 comes out, digg will go nuts.
- retral, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Halo 3's going to have to be good to put bioshock down.
- superal1394, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1I doubt Halo 3 can put this one down.
Only thing I can see killing this one is Valve dropping Half-Life 4 screen shots or Rockstar dropping screen shots of GTA 4 with vastly improved graphics
or a new iPod... *hopes and prays*
- superal1394, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1I doubt Halo 3 can put this one down.
- nublet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7don't you wish.
- warriorscot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Its going to have to be something special and more than previous versions, Halo was great on Xbox because it didnt have allot of competition on PC it was just another mediocre shooter competing with allot of truly fantastic ones. Bioshock looks amazing and fresh.
- gwolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I am sure they will both be great in their own way. Bioshock was a pleasant surprise though. Comon Tuesday :-)
I know I am just going to want to walk around and gawk, this thing looks so good.
- retral, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Halo 3's going to have to be good to put bioshock down.
- wwwharpwnedcom, on 10/10/2007, -9/+11my school grades are as good as gone.
- dantidote, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Just beat it, its pretty amazing. I suggest NOT to play on easy tho, I blew through it in 10 hours.
- knowyourrights, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1How? IT's not even out yet...?
- ReCkLeSsX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9A bunch of Toys R Us's released it early and those that were lucky enough got a chance to purchase it.
- IMADV8, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4It was uploaded a couple days ago, to boot.
- ReCkLeSsX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9A bunch of Toys R Us's released it early and those that were lucky enough got a chance to purchase it.
- codered1322, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Easy? Who the hell plays on easy?
- EmperorAwesome, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm still on the fence, cause I heard there's some instances of respawning enemies, which will ruin ANY game for me, it destroyed ninja gaiden. I'm sure some people enjoy that, but I need a sense of accomplishment that only comes with standing peacefully in a cleared out area. The reviews I've read don't say much of anything about the respawning, as they probably don't see it as an issue, but considering that's a make/break topic for me, would you care to elaborate on it?
- bagboyrebel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Based on the demo I would say that this probably doesn't happen (except for security drones), but I could be wrong since I haven't played the entire game yet.
- painted82, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Yeah respawns happen all the time. It's not too bad tho cuz you can hear the enemies before you encounter them. Plus it's a good way to earn cash and items when you are running low.
- knowyourrights, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1How? IT's not even out yet...?
- Prokaryote, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11All these Bioshock stories are probably going to result in jerks posting spoilers from the game everywhere.
"Snape kills Andrew Ryan!"
Also, someone needs to send this game to Ebert.- NiGHTSChao, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1Probably, especially because you can spoil the game with only 3 words
- TrevorBelmont, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Bioshock is people!!!
- Strongbrau, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Fontaine is Atlas.
- 3toe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I think someone spoiled it for me (I'm not sure if he was serious/correct). And if he did, it probably won't make a difference in the overall story.
- TrevorBelmont, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Bioshock is people!!!
- codered1322, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0You are so right. But I can't stop reading every article about it. *****!
- endlessoul, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, but if you see the achievement list, you'd see plot points you normally wouldn't want to see.
I almost regret looking.
Almost.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1Probably, especially because you can spoil the game with only 3 words
- Salgat, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Is Bioshock actually that good or is it all hype? Don't digg me down for this, I really want to know, its a legitimate question. I haven't seen anything new or revolutionary in Bioshock and there seems to be only one type of monster that is being displayed whenever bioshock is mentioned.
- DudleyInnocent, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2google.com and gametrailers.com
please use it - BugMeNot2, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Yes, BioShock is really that good. It doesn't do much that hasn't been done before (on the PC, at least), but that doesn't matter because BioShock is a phenomenal game.
- banz23, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It's really that good! I've played the demo through probably a dozen times and would highly recommend trying it. I can't wait until this game is released. I'm looking forward to this game more than halo 3.
- xino, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Same here when only looking at the single player of Halo 3 compared to Bioshock.
- supaklaw, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2Read my comment below. I'll be buried for not dry humping the bioshock hype parade, but I'm objective. It's an okay game. If you've played Doom 3 or Prey (another 2K title), it's a little more developed storywise, gameplay I wasn't amazed. If the multiplayer still exists in 6 months I might pick it up used. I'm planning on getting Halo3 and playing that for the next 3 years, which is how long I've been playing Halo 2 online... Gears of War never impressed me, so take that for what it's worth. I like unique, not "atmospheric" same old ... this seems rehashed with a new polish on it. But 2K I think are the best developers right now (their football rocked before EA stole it away)... demo might not be enough to truly judge this... my 2 cents.
- ThE0eNiGmA, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5That was so incoherent I don't even know where to begin. Regardless, I had to point one little flaw in all that sludge: Bioshock does not have multiplayer.
- DudleyInnocent, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2google.com and gametrailers.com
- ZephyrNinety, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Bioshock is the first game in a long time to actually get me excited. Like, N64 excited. It's gonna be that good.
I got more juice than Picasso got paint!- unblessed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I have been playing this for only a day and it is worth the hype it is getting
- reed311, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15You would think that Digg is sponsored by Bioshock with all these articles.
- ReCkLeSsX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Digg is run by the userbase, right?
So don't all these stories say something...?
Yeah, Digg likes BioShock. And for good reason.
- ReCkLeSsX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Digg is run by the userbase, right?
- pattherat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Nice host...already down... :(
(f'ing wordpress!)- bassoondux, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Yeah, mirror please?
- markwilcox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0google coral and duggmirror all mirrored an error.
- bassoondux, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Yeah, mirror please?
- Squishy3, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Well, it suits every type of gamer, you can go in guns blazing or be cautious and set up traps for the enemies.
A best way to see this is watch http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZdkyoDNEv3o and watch the video in the Bioshock article two articles below this one. You should be amazed.- Squishy3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Erm, this comment was meant to be to Salgat, but I had to log in and forgot to hit reply to this comment.
- askjeffro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Anyone find a definitive review/article that suggests the PC version over the 360 or vice versa? Usually the PC version is the way to go, but I've been unable to track down specific version differences, if any. Thanks.
- Squishy3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3PC version'll run a bit better than the 360 version (Like Oblivion and C&C3), since the 360 isn't able to run above recommended settings, if I recall correctly.
Still, you need a pretty decent PC to be able to run Bioshock effectively.- lament, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2yeah the specs are pretty heavy:

Sound Card: 100% direct X 9.0c compatible sound card
Hard disk space: 8GB free space
Recommended System Requirements:

- lament, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2yeah the specs are pretty heavy:
- Kratisto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'd be happy with a PC DEMO cough cough to try it out for myself.
- lament, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6the PC version will probably have a *****-ton more graphics options to tweak to fit every system.
- smhTheory, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0If you have a capable rig you'll get to see a few DX10 bells and whistles.
- Squeetard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2IGN has a review up of the pc and x360. They give the pc version the edge for the controls and extra eye candy.
- Squishy3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3PC version'll run a bit better than the 360 version (Like Oblivion and C&C3), since the 360 isn't able to run above recommended settings, if I recall correctly.
- markwilcox, on 10/10/2007, -9/+0http://duggmirror.com
- supaklaw, on 10/10/2007, -22/+3Holy crap ANOTHER bioshock article? I played the demo. The game just ISN'T THAT GOOD... it's the F-ing Unreal engine for god sakes... the hand on the FPS weapons looks ***** made 8 years ago... the figure animation is garbage. The texture mapping is good, the concept is genius, but the gameplay is no different than Doom 3 (ooh, what's that in the shadows... wait, Doom 3 was better at that) or Prey's freaky physics, blurring, alternate reality moments. This isn't the 2nd coming of Jesus, the hype on this is really pathetic. Can't wait for Halo 3 to arrive, and everyone will have spent 50 bucks to play a game for a month, if that. I don't get buying expensive games to play a single player for 3 days and never pick it up again.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11but Halo sucks..
- Wartz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Funny how its only the Halo Crack addicts who are bashing bioshock, odd.
- dafin0, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i love halo and i still love this game...then again i love halflife 2 and ps3
god dam why do people have to be fan boys, if you like somthing sure talk about..if you dont shut the ***** up - NiGHTSChao, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1plz us probsiers engliohs?
- dafin0, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i love halo and i still love this game...then again i love halflife 2 and ps3
- xino, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Halo sucks compared to Bioshock when you are only looking at the single player aspect of Halo. The multiplayer rocks in 2 and 3 (from what I played in the beta). I hate when people compare a single player only game to a single player and multiplayer game as a whole because then the argument shifts from game vs another game to single player gaming in general to multiplayer gaming in general although the ones arguing might not realize that's what's actually going on. The only thing that I see right now that Halo 3 campaign has over Bioshock is the online co-op.
- Wartz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Funny how its only the Halo Crack addicts who are bashing bioshock, odd.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11but Halo sucks..
- ch0pst1cks, on 10/10/2007, -5/+250 diggs and already down.
- psg188, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3To levels previously unattained levels?
I beg to differ, I hate to be 'that' guy, but 35 Game of the Year awards don't lie. I guess we'll have to wait and see but hyping this to best game of all time is just going to set people up for disappointment. - standing8, on 10/10/2007, -12/+7Sorry, buried. I just beat it as well and I think it's an extraordinary game...but saying it "elevates gaming as art to levels previously unattained" is wrong. Because then you put it next to games like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus and no game elevates "gaming as an art form" better than these two.
- ch0pst1cks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Okami was also a great example of this.
- MercFox1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sorry, dugg down.
- abben, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0typical lizard brained reaction to a well-reviewed game. Maybe it's possible that the game really is that good?
- knodi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3this game is truly amazing. I just got done beating it. I can play this game over and over again for so long.
- j4son, on 10/10/2007, -19/+2BIG ***** DEAL
- Fel24, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3How the hell have you people already beaten it?? It's not out yet, not even close. All bs.
- Squishy3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Some EBGames/Gamestops and Toys R US ended up selling the game early because they weren't told they shouldn't sell it.
- Jebrooks, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1http://thepiratebay.org/
- pattherat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4You sir, must live under a rock....
Toys 'R Us famously (and quite well documented here on Digg) released the game too early at some stores...- Fel24, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Nah trust me I'm not under the rock, it's you. I got enough stuff to do during the day, and researching about Bioshock isn't the first thing that comes to mind. If it was quite famous, it would have been in the papers. I didn't read anything about it.
- ch0pst1cks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Sorry but "the papers" don't report on games unless it's for the worst.
- abben, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Hey, Fel24- you know those legions of idiots who make the internet a worse place?

congradulations, you're one of them. - codered1322, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0The papers? What is the the 1930s? You are on the one on digg...
- Fel24, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Once again abben, I'm not at the computer a lot. By the way, learn2spell. And no I haven't heard of "those legions of idiots". I'm beginning to think you were in one since you know a lot about it.

- kiduk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I really wish I could handle scary games, not that I get scared but I think it's my adreneline that makes me shake a lot. Sucks, I usually have to take a pretty long break.
- crazihouse, on 11/07/2007, -1/+1That just made me laugh. Unfortunately for me, though, I suffer from the same thing!
- TrevorBelmont, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Hahahahahaha!
- ClOlD, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1It's such a refreshing change to see 2K Games employees submitting Digg articles.
Nothing like what's been happening for the past two weeks straight. - Shooter1228, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2this is the only game that i will buy for the full $50.00price tag
- DCstewieG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Too bad it's $60 huh?
- codered1322, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0PC version is 50. I thought the same thing at first.
- jimb0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1same here! $50 at circuit city this week.
- DCstewieG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Too bad it's $60 huh?
- crazihouse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sudden.. urge.. to use wrench.
- Holocaust, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5BioShock FTW!
- Soniti, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1This "review" is so full of spoilers, I quit reading it after the third paragraph. Just because you're a gaming site and you get to review a game early, doesn't give you permission to ruin it for everyone.
Buried.
~Soniti- jordanlund, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3There's nothing in the first 3 paragraphs that's not disclosed in the first 10 minutes of the demo. Nothing even remotely close to a spoiler.
- bagboyrebel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1dug down for two reasons:
1. There are no spoilers
2. You signed your post
- DuffyDirect, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3Unlike anything before it? It looks like a mix between F.E.A.R., Fallout, and some crazy libertarian b*tch's novel to me.

It's not possible for the revolver to be cocked and discharging a round at the same time, even for double-action.- Hignaki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0What if it's a really crappy revolver with a super-weak spring, and it bounced out again? Of course, then it wouldn't have been able to fire the bullet in the first place, but...
it's...
a game. - Hoinah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Its... a.... Game. Repeat with me: Its ... a.... Game.
- Hignaki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0What if it's a really crappy revolver with a super-weak spring, and it bounced out again? Of course, then it wouldn't have been able to fire the bullet in the first place, but...
- Derelict267, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Bioshock is really an amazing game and I'll probably finish it tomorrow. It's not just an ordinary FPS. It's a First Person Adventure, sort of like Metroid Prime.
But be careful with how much time you spend playing it depending on if you have a defective 360 or not. It really pushes the GPU hard and mine over-heated. I couldn't even turn it on today without getting the 3/4 red ring of death a few times until i waited a while and shook the case around gently before trying it again to turn it on. I may end up buying some Arctic Silver 5 and putting it on the GPU after putting my 360 through Bioshock. I never had any problems with my console at all until this game and I bought my 360 at launch.
Still it's an amazing game and Halo 3 is in a different category of shooters than this game and I doubt it will do better than Bioshock (in ratings, not sales). In my opinion Bioshock is the best game so far released for the Xbox 360 hands down. - supersaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't think i've been wanting to play a game this much since HL2
- sleeknerve, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0WORDPRESS FAIL
- internetcoward, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2All this hype will probably ruin the game for some. Plus plasmids? That's kinda lame.
- slaystench, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Silicon Knights Epic because over the Unreal Engine? Bioshock was made with the UE... It looks like it's in working order to me. =p
- Squeetard, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Please tell me English is not your first language before I sue the school system.
- slaystench, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's called alcohol. lol That is terrible though.
- PAPAsoMEAN, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0I'm skeptical about this game, but this video definitely rocks.
