- rstarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+50I don't think it has an ass. And if it did, it's made of steel and kicking it is inadvisable.
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36So I wonder how accurate it would be to use one Wiimote to control the robot, and the robot holds another wiimote to control a Wii. Some human -> robot -> computer action.
- EggoTrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34Imagine two of these going up against each other - I'd pay good money just to see it happen.
- 8177, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31No way man. If you gave the robot the wiimote it will control the humans.
- saikhan, on 10/12/2007, -10/+36I for one welcome our new motion sensing, weapon wielding overlords.
- CrispyPassion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I agree. Why play Wii Tennis on a television when you can have two robots act it out before your very eyes!
Direct link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qEotHQgUsg&eurl= - NtHammer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13from the video, i dont think the robots movement is determinded by the hand motion, but by the pattern made by a hand motion.
eg. once they made the full swinging motion, the computer recognized it and told the robot to do a swinging motion.
at least thats what i got form the video... O_o - hamandcheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12And people complained about the original wii mote going through their TVs..
- n00bst3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11It's good to know that after the Wii has been on the market for two months we can finally say that we have the best "Wiimote hack EVER!"
- thumbup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Will you people SHUT UP with the 'too much time on their hands' comments? Look at you? You're posting on digg...maybe YOU have too much time on your hands?
- adamchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That was incredibly cool and all, but lets see some chopping!!!
- dggeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Slow. I could totally kick its ass.
- SourWorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think they were scripted responses to a particular motion of the wiimote. I don't think it was actually mimicking the wiimote. Basically just what magicbobert said also.
- MetalFaith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The response time was a little slow, if they fixed that it would have been excellent.
- goosnargh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5or at your hdtv tv
- 1Bit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is why I hate Youtube comments:
"Im calling fake Cmon guys. why when the first guy lifts his remote after he does some tennis swings doesnt it react." - MagicBobert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't think it's recreating their strokes in 3D space so much as it's recording their actions for an overhand stroke, an backhand stroke, etc. and then replaying it.
- P5ycHo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's getting old my friend .....
- undersky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i gonna install two of that in my front yard and fight off all intruders at night. i bet it will scare any off.
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4or just throw it at the humans O.o
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7No no no.
The ultimate one is: "In Soviet Russia...overlord welcomes you!" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4what?
- Xorsist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nice job ellisgj, nice job.
- ellisgl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've used a nail gun in the past 3 years, and I know that they have been the same for years before. Theres a safety on them. For those that have not used them - on newer (at least the 90's) nail guns, there is a trigger. But pushing the trigger does cause it to discharge. You have to push (well pull) the trigger then tap it against something.
From looking at the picture of the xray that states "A nail gun shot six nails into construction worker Isidro Mejia's head during an April 2004 accident. He not only survived but was expected at the time to recover fully." Being under 3 years ago - I would have said that was an assult. I'm supprised he lived..
Even if there were not the safety systems at hand - look the the angles which the nails went in. Four of which I might have said accident (at the worse) but there two others that seem to be 90 degrees from the other.. That's five nails.. Accident my ass. - pwnage24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2thatd be perfect for those pesky zombie hoards in the backyard
- netdroid9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can definitely see a use for the nunchuku here movement wise. Hell, the forward-thrust could do a spinattack :P.
- mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you read down to the bill of materials you'd see they kept an extra wiimote unless they "threw" one. That could be the best Wiimote accident ever!! What if the wiimote took out the industrial welding robot?
- kursefour20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Wii is a game console, with the help of hacker enthusiasts, the Wii is the ultimate possibility.
- mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd agree, they were making extra use of Wiimote beyond what it does in games, BUT they didn't quite get the real time aspect down... they were having to "read" the wiimote action then do it... it wasn't real time like in Wii games.
But it was only 1 week! you gotta give um credit!!! - pearmanjim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ooh, I can imagine a whole bunch o these runing around hacking of peoples heads, yeah!
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No man, I completely agree, and nod my head regarding the relevance of the comment to the above article.
- Gizza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2These guys should sell this to Nintendo. R.O.B v2.0
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It would only be better if the robot responed to the wiimote's actions on a 1:1 basis, which is kinda what I was expecting. However, the winding sound of the robotic arm as it was moving was enough to make me wet myself.
- alex189a, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Semi insperational in a geeky yet futuristic way. Nice going!
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think I get what he's saying, they are all scripted, but the computer (even when recording the motions) knew where the human elbow was at certain times, instead of figuring out just where the "target" or wiimote is, and going to that location.
- benjholla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it would be pretty awsome to get two of those, and create a two player rock'em sock'em robots style game with swords.
- jepizacar, on 08/25/2008, -0/+1nice resource....

http://jeniya.info - geoplaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's an earlier Wii Remote controlled robot (Robosapien V2) with voice control too:
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Nintendo_Wii_Remote_WowWee_Robot_Hilarious - s1ade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The person swings the wiimote.
Computer records the swing and matches it to pre-stored swing patterns. The robot arm has not moved at all yet.
Computer plays the pre-stored pattern to the robot arm controller.
Not realtime, its like painting by numbers. If the number says "paint this red" it dosent matter what shade of red you choose. If you swing a slightly different overarm each time, the robot will play EXACTLY the same overarm pattern assuming the original was close enough to match.
Was all explained above, but obviously not in simple enough terms :-P - Loyke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As seen on the video, the operator has to finish the move before the robotarm can execute it.
Would be cool to see this in realtime! Than, you could actualy play tennis with it! - whoslacks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is this where Mechs come from?
- phort99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, even if I was the one holding the Wii-mote, I still wouldn't trust THAT thing with a sword. Maybe I'm just paranoid about the upcoming robot rebellion.
- unruled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1is there lag between the reaction, or what? great mod though...kinda crazy.
- Rustbucket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Put four of these in a ring and we would have what Super Smash Bros: Brawl should be.
- paulansorge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Two things...
First, surely...Best Wiimote Hack SO FAR and secondly...they think it's clever to give swords to robots now... - P5ycHo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does the Wii have the same kind of lag? I sure hope not.
- mrRB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I, for o-wait, someone already made that joke? Darn.
- BassJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What your hands to big? Try tweezers
- dugem1, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1That's great find
