This morning I saw 12 of the 60GB versions in the case at the busiest Target just outside of DC. I haven't laid eyes a Wii on shelves since the release date.
I was just in Magnolia Audio Video yesterday (who is owned by Best Buy) and they had PS3's floorstacked so I bought one. Regardless of what everybody says, it's a pretty outstanding machine.
What embargo? I was in Best Buy last week and some guy had one in his shopping cart. Which I thought was odd because when I worked there, something that $$ would have been waiting for you up at the registers.
What is everyone talking about? I work at BBY and we have like 20 of them sitting on the shelves. No one wants one. Ofcourse stores hold product to have it available in the ad. The people who dugg this story are whiny litte 12 year old fan boys.
Buried as inaccurate. Best Buy stores have been selling PS3's regularly .. there was even a post about this on Digg only six days ago about how they were selling slowly. I personally sold PS3's (and saw a couple returned) on Christmas Eve at Best Buy.
Why is this on the front page? Another store selling the extra slowest selling new generation console, PS3, does not justify the popularity of the article. Buried.
There's no Wii embargo either -- signed up with itrackr.com and I get at least one txt a day telling me this or that store in the area has one. I bought one the 2nd day I was on the service. (day after christmas at Target).
And I live in NH where NO store gets more than a few at a time.
Like most of the other people that have commented on this Digg, I don't understand why this is a big deal. I went to my local Target (Clifton Park, NY) and there were 4 PS3s sitting on the shelf (two 20GB models, and two 60GB models.) I'm pretty sure Besy Buy is the only place without PS3s right about now.
Best Buy stinks and so does my broke down PS3 that I'm returning to Sony for a new one. First, it makes a clacking noise when I turn it on and now I'm starting to have a problem playing movies. It's a very expensive toy.
bobalobabingbon, you do realize that cnet is not a game website but a tech site and they like the PS3 for all the multimedia functionality and dont care about its performance as game console. in fact, their review has already been mentioned as bias for those reasons on a few sites ive visited.
link me to comparisons from sites such as IGN, 1up, kotaku, etc.
Geez, I didn't know Best Buy was holding on to them since 12/21, Because I could of sworn I seen several people buy a PS3 the day after christmas, and they weren't preordered.
They're making a mistake. I work at gamestop, and if the "hype" at best buy is anything like it at ours, they won't move any units. We've got seven sellable units on tuesday, haven't sold any yet, and just got another returned today. No one wants PS3s.
The other day I was at Gamestop and there was a couple who was looking for a Wii and the employee said, "sorry, but all we have are PS3s and Xbox 360s in stock".
Three days in a row in the Flint, MI area have I found PS3's just chilling on the shelves. The day after Christmas: EB Games had 6 of them for the whole time I was at the mall. Best Buy the next day had 3 on the shelves, sitting while I watched others get a 360 instead. Then the day after that Meijers had 2 of them.
gamer ratings where? you linked to editor reviews and as mentioned, they reviewed based on technology and nothing else.
theres a reason why this digg topic is here. there is no hype for ps3 while there was a ton for xbox 360 and there is now a ton for wii. with that said, i know for a fact that cnet did not compare the consoles from a gamers perspective.
i hate people that say that 360s suck. Only someone so ignornt to the gaming world and its quite frankly a n00b ( lol ) could possibly say that 360's suck. They have so much to offer and so far a amazing list of games. Not to mention pretty graphics and the hd dvd drive owns. Stop bashin 360s AND ps3s for that matter.. I might end up getting one someday if they drop price a little and when GTHD comes out. And if the rumor of MGS4 coming to 360 is false then i am definantly getting a ps3 one day cause i cant miss out on the legend.. Quit bashin and start enjoying. party on wayne...

"I have one too, Resistance is a crazy game. The PS3 bashers are just fangirls of XBox, and have never even tried a decent game on PS3"
Give us a decent game on the ps3. Then we'll play it!
I work at best buy and i can confirm that every store in the western suburbs of chicago will have at least 30 60GB ps3's. My store has had ps3's in the ware house since the 24th of December.
Lift the embargo? It seems the embargo never began.
In fact I was looking for a Wii controller this weekend so I went to 2 different Best Buys, 2 Gamestops, and a Target. No Wiis, Wii accessories (other than bags, stands, and those ridiculously overpriced memory cards), and no ds lites. Even a lot of Wii games were sold out, Rayman was increasingly difficult to track down.
However, at every store I found a PS3. How will Sony spin this?
I work for Circuit City in Florida, here's some numbers, since we don't have any ***** 'embargo' and we've only held them once (when Corporate dictated it and put it in the weekly ad that came out on a Sunday).
Amount of PS3's returned since christmas: 8, 3 were defective.
Times our in-store display breaks or freezes, per day: around 4, on average.
Amount of PS3's in store this morning: 18
Amount of PS3's in store when I left: 12.
Wii's : None, they sell out immediatly.
And we're nearly out of all Wii accessories becides, as Lou said - the cases, stands, and memory cards.
We have lots of games, though - including Rayman.
0 DS Lites aswell, for a while.

Lol@diggJohnB thinking he can return it for a replacement.
Odds are, you'll get your money back or store credit, not a replacement.
So just because the PS3 doesn't sell the instant it arrives at the store makes it a failure?
Get a grip people. It's a great system. I have one (and a Wii mind you) and it has a much stronger future than the Wii, simply based on power. The Wii is wheel phun, but the PS3 is just simply a much more capabale system, and is very future-proofed.
PS3's will sell just fine. Blu-ray will win and the PS3 will again be the dominant machine (ala PS2).
But anyhow, this is a brainwashed Wii/Mac crowd, so who am I kidding? *goes back to watching The Descent on Blu-ray...*
So... I personally have not purchased ANY next gen system. I am proud to say I have tried them all AND like them all. I personally think the PS3 is the way to go for myself, because Sony always gets the really good RPGs and I also believe it to be one of the cheapest blu-ray players on the market, and I want to support it.
As for the Wii, I LOVE the Zelda series, but I am being smart with my money and not wasting on it on a system where all I am going to buy is Twilight Princess and maybe Trauma Center.
For the 360, Geometry Wars is an AWESOME game! So is GoW and of course Halo will be awesome, but again that is all to look forward too.
Here is how I would classify it. If you like crazy awesome FPS and other shooters (and Geometry Wars) by all means buy a 360. If you are a casual gamer or just one of those fans who have to buy every Zelda that will ever come out go ahead buy a Wii. If you really like RPGs, think that the future of EyeToy seems awesome, or have just been a follower of Sony all your life, buy a PS3. Keep in mind that PS3 is the only system that currently comes with a HD disc drive. If you consider yourself a hardcore gamer, but thats all you are then maybe you should buy a 360, but if you want a system that can fit all your future media needs and you are still a pretty hardcore gamer buy the PS3. Ya I am probably gonna get bashed for having more of a "bias" for the PS3, but I think it has the best hardware on the market, the cell is a REVOLUTIONARY idea, and that Blu-Ray is going to win the war.
You dont have to be a hardcore gamer for 360 even though thats where the games are at for the hardcore. Look at viva pinata, kameo, lego star wars, etc. 360s are awesome for all crowds. Im not a xbox fanboy at all. I didnt really like xbox 1 for much besides halo and ninja gaiden and was a ps2 guy for shure but now i got a 360 its great. hofasho
This post is insanely false...I work at best buy and as soon as we have gotten them we sell them... as of right now we had like 7 sitting in the back waiting for people to purchase. As soon as someone asks for one they get it...there's no "embargo"
yo i work at a gamestop, its not like we have an abundance of ps3's or some *****, but i can definetly say there is more of a demand for wii's than the ps3's, we also have had more returns on the ps3s than anything else.
