- dle5, on 01/02/2009, -2/+132I wish all their stores became vending machines.
- cweave, on 01/03/2009, -1/+80This isn't targeted at the 20 something crowd. Its targeted towards the 30 something crowd with 3 kids, who for the low price of $30 can buy a DS game and have some peace and quiet on an airplane. Depending on where these vending machine are located in airport - I can see this being a success...
- SniperZero, on 01/03/2009, -0/+65I am sorry sir that game has a gun on the cover we cannot allow it on the aircraft.
- Arramol, on 01/03/2009, -0/+50Hmm, speaking as a 20 something, there are times I'd almost be tempted to make a donation to that 30 something so *I* can have peace from their kids.
- BrownManUPS, on 01/03/2009, -3/+40This needs more infrastructure. I want to be able to go to my gate, pick up a game at a kiosk, get on the plane, get off the plane and go to a nearby kiosk and return the game in there, no strings attached and pay maybe $5 for a rental more than 5 hours (not more than a 36 hours period), and only $3 for less than that. System rental could be added but just games and movies would be genius.
- lowtolerance, on 01/03/2009, -1/+33vending machines are certainly less surly than the average bestbuy employee
- dfarino, on 01/03/2009, -0/+31Is there another vending machine waiting by the exit that'll need to check my receipt?
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+29should probably keep the consoles on the bottom shelf...
- Tyrghast, on 01/03/2009, -1/+25What about a vending machine that sold vending machines? It would have to be really ***** huge!
RIP Mitch Hedburg - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -2/+26100$ in quarters will be lol.
- roxgod666, on 01/03/2009, -9/+3290% of the electronics would get stuck in the outgoing slot like an obese baby trapped in a tight vaginal canal.
- lowtolerance, on 01/03/2009, -0/+22robbing a vending machine in an airport would be about as intelligent as swiping someone chips in a casino - you're probably not going to get away with it.
- slangmann, on 01/03/2009, -0/+15these have been around for a while..I was travelling on Christmas Day so i actually saw a lot of people lining up at these things and buying stuff, for their kids I guess
- OneNaturalOne, on 01/03/2009, -0/+15uhhhh
- seldon452, on 01/03/2009, -0/+14Uh, when did the CEO of bestbuy get a digg account?
- Barackalypse, on 01/03/2009, -0/+14Maybe people who make $129.99 impulse purchases from vending machines fly on non-crappy airlines that have AC power in the seats?
- solidwhetstone, on 01/03/2009, -1/+14Can I help you with anything today? No? Just looking? R U SHUR?
- stridox, on 01/03/2009, -1/+13HOW ABOUT THIS HERE EYE PHONE?!
- rushiku, on 01/03/2009, -1/+13"No PS3s in there?"
Of course not, they want to stock the thing with items that will sell. - Renton, on 01/03/2009, -5/+16The 20 somethings know enough to get an R4 card.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+12Douche bag - if you like games support them. I use my flash cart for homebrew and for a translation of a JP only game - that's about it. It's one thing to try the game out, but to pirate a game you like is to be greedy. If you have the option of buying a game and you think it's a worthy game, then you shouldn't avoid it.
- strebalicious, on 01/03/2009, -0/+11As a twenty something, I bought from one of these. In July, I was stuck in Las Vegas Airport overnight and I saw them installing this thing. When they were finally done I went over just so I could get the satisfaction of being the first one of buying something from it. I didn't buy a game for the kid, oh no, I bought it for the wife. My son already has umpteen million games.
- benologist, on 01/03/2009, -1/+11As a (late) 20 something who travels a lot I can honestly say if I walk past one of these vending machines I'm probably going to buy a new psp game. I can see it appealing to the 30 somethings with kids more but it definitely has appeal to me at least.
Also the rental system BrownManUPS mentioned further down sounds awesome. - kinseyincanada, on 01/03/2009, -0/+10no strings? the least thing they would ask for is a credit card number so they can charge you if you steal it.
- FBDYLVR, on 01/03/2009, -0/+9I can see the games selling, but they're selling a brand new game system with uncharged batteries before your flight? I'm pretty sure that will be a great purchase...
- 42Vindictive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+10Oh my god, you need to go back to English class. NOW.
- clyentnine, on 01/03/2009, -0/+9there really was no better analogy?
- zodieman, on 01/03/2009, -0/+9How long until we get a youtube video on how to hack these?
- BossKey, on 01/03/2009, -0/+9Open at 3 am? 7-11 is like a huge vending machine.
- quomen, on 01/03/2009, -2/+10^Not that great of a comment.
- Renton, on 01/03/2009, -0/+8America needs more vending machines. I have insomnia, so I'm usually up and about during weird hours of the night and there's never anything open at 3:00am.
- starf, on 01/03/2009, -0/+8My DS lasted a while on the initial charge (before plugged in). Li-ion batteries are often sold with some charge (and it's best to store them at half charge I believe).
- NixiePixel, on 01/03/2009, -0/+7Well, this is convenient. Nothing too terribly innovative, but probably a money-maker for them. Now, let's see how long it takes before you can rent them for the flight using nothing more than your cell phone as a digital payment system.
- Naerie, on 01/03/2009, -3/+10So when will they create a video game rental system like redbox? you know? pick and choose, rent for a $1 a day and return it anywhere and get another. it would be faster and more convenient than using the mail.
- betocool, on 01/03/2009, -0/+7i say it's a good idea
- Renton, on 01/03/2009, -2/+9Why would you buy a console at an Airport? I can understand a DS, so you can take it on a plane or be entertained while waiting for a flight or something.
- Ymeg, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6If you buy it, its your fault. If you find value in it, good for you.
- q1006662, on 01/03/2009, -2/+8RTFA
- airwalkery2k, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6For some international flights, maybe... And even then, it's usually not found in coach.
- dudefaceguyman, on 01/03/2009, -3/+9It's starting to become that way. Vending machines are getting ridiculously popular where I live. They removed the entire movie department in one section of my grocery store and replaced it with a movie rental vending machine...contraption..I haven't tried it yet.. Also, the rest of the store is done by self check out. There's a couple security guards to make sure you don't steal *****, but otherwise you don't have to talk to anybody. Just scan your crap then stuff the machine with money or pay with your card. For once, I don't absolutely loathe going to the store. Now I only slightly dislike it.
PS: I stole a candy bar once through the self checkout. I'm such a sneaky badass.. - hoodoodave, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6I get pissed off enough when a Snickers gets stuck in the machine. If I got screwed out of a game, I'd flip my *****.
- freebird09, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5chances was that it was duty free (no tax) so they figure some clientele (sp?) may be interested.
- mysn239, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5What happened to vending machines? First sodas, then condoms, now nintendos!
- Kero1116, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5Imagine a DS or PSP gets stuck when you pay for it.
- rushiku, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5"For some international flights, maybe... And even then, it's usually not found in coach."
I don't know about you guys, but I usually travel with a 50' extension cord explicitly for this purpose. - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5This is actually a very good idea.
- Barackalypse, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5Get back to me when they sell women from the vending machines that have user update able firmware.
- Khast, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5Okay, so they sell the Nintendo DS....do they have a place where you can perform the initial recharge? (Instructions suggest you recharge the unit prior to first use.)
- bigteebo, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5Don't they do that with movies? If so, said movie places should just expand the media. Can't exactly ruin a DS cartridge as easily as a DVD. Heck, I remember a mom & pop video store that rented out game boy titles.
- milkmit, on 01/03/2009, -1/+6***** that, either adapt or become a dinosaur.
Most people at these stores know ***** about what they're selling, anyway, so I may as well be talking to a unresponsive vending machine when I make my purchases. They're useless. I'll do my own research and answer my own questions, and don't need some kid who hates their job to get in the way. -
