- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+229Hey, know what mSrp means? It's SUGGESTED. Meaning they can charge whatever the hell they want. This is a capitalistic society, if they want to charge $40 more, that is up to them.
- Altanar, on 10/10/2007, -6/+149This just in: Business charges more than it costs to purchase products in some lame attempt to make money. News at 11.
- somunny, on 10/10/2007, -3/+79That site needs to do some hard-hitting, investigative reporting on car/truck dealerships. BTW - The 'S' in 'MSRP stands for 'suggested'.
- Natetendo83, on 10/10/2007, -2/+62You people all realize that Best Buy price matches right? This means you go there, they look up the price of the store near by selling it for the old price, sell it to you cheaper than that store, and in the long run you actually save a bit of money by going to Best Buy...that is if you know what you're doing, but most would rather just complain.
- Hipple, on 10/10/2007, -12/+72But they got caught! This must be against some sort of law! Charging more than other stores?! It's an outrage!
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -12/+65Solution: Don't buy from Best Buy.
- AriaStar, on 10/10/2007, -7/+53Yeah, it's over the SUGGESTED price, but so what? Shop somewhere else. Best Buy sucks anyway.
- SirNoobius, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39if you dont like the price, buy it somewhere else
- zizzy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30BREAKING: This just in: yingjai doesn't have a sense of humor.
- swizzley, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26So let me get this straight. As demand for a product increases, the price increases. I'm glad someone did some investigating on this...
- rulezgetbent, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24Know how to fight back?
well u could try going to the electronic store a block down the road where they sell the item you want for 3 dollars less...
or i suppose you could just pay the extra 3 dollars at best buy and then bitch about it all day. - schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Check the batteries in your sarcasm detector.
- davidave, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19no...what's wrong with the US is individuals expecting everyone around to adjust to the individual's needs and preference...it's a free country, don't shop there. better yet, do shop there and pricematch the crap out of those items
- MackDiesel2010, on 10/10/2007, -5/+22Yeah cause Best Buy isn't an evil corporation.
Oh wait, you're an illogical bitch with liberal guilt - oracleofmist, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20I'm sure saying "Wow, i'll just go to walmart and buy this for 3 dollars cheaper" with a manager around would stir something up.
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17It's the consumer's responsibility to be intelligent and make decisions in his or her best interest. I seriously thought that diggers understood basic economics, but I'll give you a basic course. When demand for something goes up and supply stays at a constant level, the price of the commodity goes up until supply can meet demand. Best Buy feels that the demand of the Xbox 360 devices is going to peak so much that increasing the cost of the product will keep demand, which is comprised of both desire and ability to obtain the product, at a stable level. This is standard economics, the kind of stuff you should be learning in high school. Besides, you see larger pieces of equipment like laptops and desktops at ranges of several hundred dollars, and gas has varied by sum totals of 10-15 dollars per tank in the past 5 years( remember when the cost of gas in the states was less than 2 dollars? Way back in 2005...), three American dollars is literally change in my pocket. Don't be so miserly, or go ahead and be so miserly and buy it somewhere else, but keep your idiotic whining to yourself.
- GalacticXenu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18Supply and Demand. If you ran a store and had something guaranteed to sell like crazy you'd raise the price as well to increase revenues.
Here's how it works: they know something will sell, they raise the price. They aren't so sure something will sell, they lower the price to try to get more people to buy it.
Quit whining and shop somewhere else. Or rather, complain, tell people where the best deals are, and shop somewhere else, but don't get all "RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF"... - MackDiesel2010, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Well they don't price match the internet
- darkbob87, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Yeah because Best Buy is the only retail chain to "overcharge" for peripherals. Making money and making stockholders happy means making profits, if you don't like it, shop somewhere else.
- robszol, on 10/10/2007, -6/+18Basic economics; supply and demand. When demand increases, the supplier will charge more for that price. Why are you surprised?
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13this isn't *****. Demand is shifted to the left, supply stays the same and price goes up. It's econ 101 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Price_of_market_balance.svg
I'm an anarcho-communist myself, so I'm not siding with capitalism. This isn't an excuse. It's how capitalism works. - krewemaynard, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16So go to another store, or order online. It's not like you have to go to Best Buy.
Besides, $3? Whoopti-freakin-do. I've seen much bigger price differences than that. - cgomez, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Caught? Who the hell are you catching?
People can shop wherever they want and merchants can charge whatever they want. Move along folks, nothing to see here. - Intrepion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10good luck on finding the torrent for peripherals...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -12/+22I don't care if Best Buy is more expensive, I'm not buying anything from Wal-Mart.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I don't think $3 is "such inflated prices"..... I mean really if something is going to be higher than the suggested price that's not exactly bad.
- jgzman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10No, he is exactly right. This is capitalism, an as such, they can charge anything they want. However, that doesn't mean we have to buy it, and it doesn't mean that we have to like it, either. With the Internet, we can communicate information faster and easier, so the greater advantage is to us. If enough people know about this, and choose not to pay it, then their action will have a negative effect, and they will loose money, and be forced to drop prices.
Hey, look. Capitalism, as controlled by the consumers, not the businesses. Scary thought, eh? - Sk8SkaNJ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9maybe its closer to some? or the store is better stocked on an item compared to a local store?
- achoo5000, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I think the point is that now we know they charge more, thanks to this article, and can take our business elsewhere. = capitalism
- stray, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Or, just bring in a competitor's ad and get the price match. (Full disclosure: I work at a Best Buy.)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Dude, you know that every person that is outraged by this story is between the ages of 15 and 22 and doesn't want to get "gypped" and has some feeling of "entitlement".
- Mothrog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Sociology major = future Best Buy cashier, especially with how poorly you write and the fact that you're too ***** stupid to turn off the caps lock.
- AwwJeah, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6They will pricematch with the internet. I've done it through them numerous times. They just have to look it up on the site to make sure you're being legit. It also helps I think if it's a fairly large and well known internet retailer like Amazon (which is who I've always pricematched with). If they won't do it for you, odds are that it's the employee is lazy and is just ***** you. If that's the case, ask for a manager to help you and they'll most definitely look it up and do it for you.
- M4tt3r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I don't think you could have made a dumber comment. Just to let you know... you are "stupid".....have you ever heard of [cause and effect] or [butterfly effect]. Honest to FSM, stupid people make me so mad... (Funny how he's using a computer, which is part of capitalism, which allows him to bitch about capitalism....what a catch22.)
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6They can charge whatever the hell they want.
- Sornos, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Clearly, you don't earn your own money.
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5because it's not free. The more they charge for an item the less people will buy the item. It's not about "getting away" with it. It's about the basic rules of supply and demand in the market.
- airwalkery2k, on 10/10/2007, -13/+18Capitalism is a fight between producers/retailers and consumers, as both are trying to get the best deal for themselves.
Therefore, a small yet extra charge that one may gloss over if not well versed in the exact prices, can be seen as an assault on us consumers, even if it is perfectly legal. We have every right to warn other consumers, as we must push back to make sure that the retailers know this is an idiotic tactic. Otherwise, every store would be pulling stunts like this. - colincornaby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You're going to pirate an XBox 360 Peripheral?
- EvilCan, on 02/26/2008, -0/+5Why didn't you just buy the damn thing from Walmart? Seems like a lot of work to support the store that charges more than MSRP.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah, I think it's 110% of the difference. That being, if the difference was $3 (like this case is) then they'd lower their price by $3.30.
- vwvwvw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I don't think so. Everyone knows that if you want the best price, order it online. The downside is that you have to wait to get it. When you shop at Best Buy, you're paying the "I want it now" tax.
- achoo5000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Why does the employee care?
- achoo5000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6get one online for 4.99 dork
- blankfaze, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Oh, I forgot that ever since America converted to socialism, businesses are no longer allowed to charge whatever the hell they want.
- DocHoliday22, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Forget Best Buy exploting market trends, have you seen the prices of some of the peripherals of the Xbox 360 anyway? And you certainly need to take your blood pressure tablets for the PS3 peripherals coz those prices will put you in a 3 week coma...
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4You're right about ending up ahead, but there's a limit, of course. You could sell a hundred eggs for 50 cents each, and make 50 dollars, but you can't sell a single egg for 50 dollars. Well, maybe to the federal government... Just tell them that there are weapons of mass destruction in the egg.
Anyway, the point is that maybe you can get away with 60 cents before customers start walking away, but at 61 cents they decide that it's more worth their time to keep walking and look for other eggs. Now, if Best Buy was the sole retailer of Xbox 360 accessories, then they could start charging you an arm and a leg, and you'd have no recourse since they're the only proverbial egg seller in the world. - Gee1004, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Another best buy sob story
- terranaut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well, Those who don't like BB's pricing can just go across the road to the mom & pop store where they charge 50% more for any [PC] peripheral & $50/hr just to sneeze on your PC.
- fanclerks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Yep, done it a few times with Amazon. Brought in a print out with the item and price and they price matched without question.
