- Gnome1300, on 10/12/2007, -3/+49Just breathtaking.... Top style, amazing animation. Thanks!
- joeysafe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35I'm not sure if I'm going to like it ...it's sort of a grey area for me...
- paintist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32Brilliant, almost like a neo-noir version of Ico
- jacenat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25see?
THIS is why i still LOVE digg.
this thing looks amazing and i am pretty sure i would have never heard of it if it weren't for digg. - revthwack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I'd say moreso. The hyper-realistic ones have to get every detail right. With the human brain being the most powerful and complex patern recognition computer in the world, we notice if they goof on even the smallest detail. With the pure fantasy ones, we instantly enter a state of suspension of disbelief, allowing us to percieve them as a reality far easier.
- davemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22That's really really great. Kinda reminds me of Another World http://www.anotherworld.fr/ (the original, not the high-res) with a bit of Tim Burton thrown in. Really hope it gets made!
- tont0r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Long live platform games
- fr0chu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20http://www.playthrough.net/2006/09/games/concept-art-and-teaser-trailer-from-limbo/
Apparently it is a Danish game being developed by Arnt Jensen, who previously did artwork for Hitman 2 and Freedom Fighters. Couldn't find any more details (i.e. platform, release, whatever). - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16How stark and artistic. These are the kinds of games *gamers* want. Are you listening EA, Ubisoft and the rest? High concept.
Unfortunately, they also carry narrow appeal (to hardcore types), which usually turns big publishers like the aforementioned ones off. - m0shen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I'm glad i'm not the only one who thought this... BTW this is the same as "Out of this world" for our american friends.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I have a strange feeling that this is just a fake video made in after effects of what he wants the game to be like... I get the feeling that it's not a real game yet...
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10This game reminds me of a game that came out around 1998, called Heart of Darkness. Here is more info on it. http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=2614 (sorry the site is so full of ads, but it is still a great site)
See this is what people want, creativity and style. Graphics dont mean anything without style. I think nintendo gets this. Sony and microsoft, maybe not so much. - Hermitwise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I like how videogames seem to be diverting down two paths, one with hyper realism being the goal, and the other being completely based on fantasy, to where they create this entirely unique set of rules and sense, so it's almost as believable as the hyper realistic ones in a way.
- EGOvoruhk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I was just about to say it looks like something that Fumito Ueda (Ico/Shadow of the Colossus) would do. Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks so
- UltraNurd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The hyper-real ones are also in the upper reaches of the Uncanny Valley, and headed downhill; there will be a period where realistic human characters are going to CREEP YOU OUT. Unless no hyper-real games are released for a time until they are realtime-rendering what looks like full motion video. I personally prefer the more stylized games.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9hmmm the doman is regiestered to an individual, So I'm quessing that unless it's a decoy. It's gonna be on the PC unless they have a budget or their a start up venture with some cash. I would say maybe it's XNA (Xbox 360), but I think that's only C# and this says C++ at the bottom.
- cannibaljp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7dugg... for beauty and courage in a genre that, today, doesn't seem to know what those words mean...
- wyrdness, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15That looks lovely. It's a pity that there's not more information on the web site.
I'd buy it (if it comes out for Wii or Mac) - rauz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Very nice and Another World-esque, seems like it's being made in Denmark.
Maybe the platform will be PSP, could work... - Kalean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5For those of us who don't have a 1 mbps connection, or want to save this video to our hard drive, the actual video stream is resident at http://www.underholdningsbranchen.dk/limbo1Mbps_Stream.flv so you can slap it in your favorite download manager and save a copy. It's pretty. Looks to make for a good game.
- thomasthecat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I was going to mention this too! Except when I played it, it was called "Out of this World" and it was on my trusty SEGA Genesis.
Great game, though I think they just kind of ran out of money at the end, as it was an abrupt conclusion.
Anyway, if this game plays like "Another World/Out of this World" it will be a blast for sure! - eurotransient, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Pinscreen animation perhaps?
- hoberion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4another world, great game, everytime I load up my amiga emulator I play it...
- powatom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That looks incredible, I'll definately be interested in getting my hands on it. I'm no translator, but it looks like they're looking for a coder. Any Diggers up to the challenge?
- DenTPuzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3First thing I thought was - it's like that another world game! Also kind of looks like those old Eastern European cartoons you used to get! Looks good tho'!
- thetyrant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i want high pixel count concept art for some background action. looks great
- allarise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Right. What's funny is that, aside from XBLA, amazing games like this fly in the face of everything the 360 and PS3 stand for.
Personally I could care less about 1080p and 60fps. I want new, fun, interesting, CREATIVE games. Sadly, the industry wants to move away from this and into how awesome the graphics can be and how many leaves they can get to move on a tree in the background, because that ***** sells new systems. Not, creative new ideas.
I hope Nintendo smashes this pattern and reminds the industry that REAL gamers want games, not graphics.
ART over horsepower, people. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks beautiful... so does anyone have any other info on it?
- benc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nice! There's something about black, white, and 2D that just works, visually.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Pirate Baby's Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006 yet. I was disappointed when I learned it wasn't a real game:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=908674814285543652 - GiJoeBob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Kinda reminds me of Ninjai http://www.ninjai.com
- lowlevel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This reminds me of 'Another World' (Later renamed to 'Out of this World') ... I definatly want this game and whatever platform it comes out on.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The reason I posted it was because it was so beautiful , but with zero info on what it actually is. I'm hoping one of the diggers can shed some light on it...anyone?
- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It looks like it's in the style of certain Soviet Russian animations, which they made using many layers of tracing(?) paper to give depth.
Sorry, I can't remember who the studio/animators were. - noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -10/+12or DS
- pentomino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very euro-bleak. Now is the time on Sprockets when we dance.
- Konklone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I too was thinking Ico/Colossus when I saw this. Especially the sense of loneliness. I hope this game comes through because I will pay good money if it comes anywhere close to Ico or Shadow.
- MikeCP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that little boy is about to get wrecked
- Phantastica, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The style seems like a ripoff of the Oscar nominated short The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello, which looked really amazing.
http://www.jaspermorello.com/gazette/?page_id=6¤tSelection=3 - TempleDog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Umm...can anyone confirm that this IS a game, and not just a short film inspired by game culture? I know the site has 'game' in the URL, but that don't mean nothin'. Is the dude looking for production money? Building a team?
Oh, and if you like this style of animation, check out Michel Gagne's stuff...he was FX supervisor on the 'Clone Wars' shorts. His "Insanely Twisted Shadow Puppet" shorts ran as interstitials during Nikolodean's 2005 Halloween weekend promo. Enjay, bra!
http://www.gagneint.com/Final%20site/insanelytwisted.com/main.htm - seanc28, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The animation looks beautiful but I need to hear more about the game if it really is one before I get excited about the project.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought the section where he was negotiating the falling crate was similar to that "oddworld" side scroller game on PC.
- keikun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1loco roco anyone?
- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's definitely some pinscreen influence in this game's look too, but the ones I'm thinking of were hand-drawn, with many layers. So a fusion of these two techniques, then!
- mrtruffle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The game looks amazing. I'd love to see it on the PSP. I'd love just a sexy screensaver or desktops of this guys art
- plkrtn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why isn't it next gen? Because it doesn't look more realistic and gritty? the kind of power you'd need to do this game right not only suits next gen perfectly, but also... whys it never about exploration and creation with some people? The Playstation is a platform of sequels and clone games, what originality exists, like Vib Ribbon sadly doesn't break through with some. This is perfect for Wii, surely!
- merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2To me it looks alot like "Loco Roco" meets "Nightmare Before Christmas"...
- AM088, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the fact that the site is .org ....
- daborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you liked Another World you should check out Flashback:
http://www.games4win.com/games/flashback/ - guinsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks, I originally thought of this game when I saw the video but I couldn't remember the name. It was a fun game with a really unique style, glad to see something similar is being worked on.
- kuchino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2by that aspect ratio i agree, it maybe a psp game.
