- Ascendant, on 10/12/2007, -11/+126Congratulations EA- you have now dethroned Sony as Digg's most hated gaming company of the moment!
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -5/+85THE ARTICLE IS A JOKE.
- bigtrouble77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+44Klarth,
I think your the only one that actually read the article. - rolosworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28quote:
"In case you didn’t realize by now, this is obviously fake, and hopefully a bit fun with the spyware, bugs and advertising news surrounding BF2142 at the moment."
RTFA - MaddDog, on 10/12/2007, -22/+49Battlefield 2182 Expansion: Now with even more ads, and additional free spyware that is automatically installed for your convenience!
Seriously, it is every gamer's duty to spread the bad word about Battlefield 2182 and drive their business down. - vsujohn2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Hormel is a sponsor for one of the Unlocks. So now instead of nade-spamming, you can Spam-spam!
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18That would be sweet to rain down from my Nissan Titan.
- Lorian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Just in case you're too stupid...
"In case you didn’t realize by now, this is ovbiously fake, and hopefully a bit fun with the spyware, bugs and advertising news surrounding BF2142 at the moment." - Talus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Somebody really needs to add a (humour) tag to this story's title. LOTS of people are upset about the whole in-game ad thing already .. and they've already proven that they'll believe ANYTHING anybody tells them about EA .. so long as it is negative.
- kasted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10i hate myself for owning EA products
- EbowUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I thought the fun of these stories was *not* pointing out they were fake and giggling at how many people rant and rave at them?
- crysys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I read somewhere that the president of EA can't get an erection unless he kills a dog.
It's true because I read it on the internet. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Dood... you don't need market research...
1) Guys like hot women is lingerie. We don't really care how much it costs.
2) Women like cute/sexy underwear (as long as it's relatively comfortable). Women only care a little more about how much it costs.
Bam! There's all the market research you need. - Alegis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm still waiting for the announcement that Battlefield will be integrated in the EA Sports series.
Battlefield 2008, Battlefield 2009 ... - kuchino, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Fix bf2 first!
- Klowner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7holy crap, those prices are for running your OWN server? As in, paying for the box and the bandwidth, PLUS that? That's frickin ridiculous.
- j3one, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5ok so I have to come in here and admit I used to play allot of BF2... The only reason I am not now is time constraints and its not a priority. That said, I grabbed the demo for 2142 and have to say I am not impressed. Knifing someone and getting their dog-tag is way cool, but other than that I don't think a walker and new gameplay mode are worth a whole new game.
The ultimate slam to EA would be if someone made a 2142 mod for bf2, hehe.... - themulf, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I am a big BF fan, and I have all the PC BF games. But I am going to sit this one out, at least for a while. Anyone else? I'm curious if this game will flop like Vietnam.
- ZapWizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I too am sitting this game out.
- reichg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4EA forgot to mention that Satan is now a full parter with EA and to expect more sinister behavior from EA. Because starting in the following months EA will be charging for updates and patches to ensure that EA pisses off as many people and in every way as humanly possible.
***** you consumer,
Electronics Arts - PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5ahhahahahahhaaa hilarious article
brilliant satire, EA deserves it.
btw, bf2142 sucks. it's just bf2 with REALLY annoying ads. same graphics, same physics, same gameplay. - icepickk55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4article was great lol .....in speaking about this amazing new game play......anyone here on Digg every play Tribes 2?? the whole game just kinda feels like a clone of that game....
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6*ahem* This would be so typical of today's EA.
- toasty168, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7You know, the ads might not be so bad if you didn't have to pay so much for the game. You'd think after spending 50-60 bucks you wouldn't have to put up with ads. However, if the game was significantly cheaper or free, I wouldn't mind the ads.
- malice8691, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How do I block all the ads but keep the victoria secret ones?
- mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Good joke article. But as they said at the end all the real spyware, bugs, etc. are enough to keep me away from this lemon.
- r3m1x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wtf Victoria's Secret? Does this mean Tyra Banks is an unlockable in expansion packs?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yah, no kidding, lol. How much longer till i am playing WOW or SWg and see an Home Depot or Burger King advertisement IN THE GAME, lol
- Waywinkle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I was a fan of BF2, but 2142 doesn't do it for me, apart from the futuristic vehicles and weapons, it seems like they just want to charge retail for a mod someone could have made themselves for free.
- kellymahan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5There's ads in BF2142?
Ad-Block FTW =) - PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2would be nice if it worked. but, nope. not if you plan on actually playing it online (which virtually everyone who buys it does).
- Guard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Buried just because it seems half the people that commented were too stupid to realize it was a joke.
Which goes to prove that half the people on Digg don't read the articles. - Guye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The fact people were so ready to believe the article was real still sorta tells you something...
- Rabid_Llama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Too bad blocking the ads (which is impossible at the moment) is explicitly against the EULA and they could ban you from their ranked servers for it. I'm not sure if they're capable of doing that right now, but it would be within their right.
I hate the entire ads-in-games concept on principle anyway. Paying $50 for a game with no monthly-incurred costs for the developers (i.e., non-MMO games) should be enough. - CollegeRuled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I haven't seen a single ad in BF 2142 since it's release.
- TheBrandman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My soldier name in the demo is "DontBuyTheGame". I really don't think this is worth it, but the demo is some good, free, fun.
- PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and you were too stupid to realize their comment was a joke on a joke
- kaffein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2A lot of games took game play mechanics from the Tribes series... (Planetside, Halo, Battlefield, etc.)
- PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1unfortunately every time you connect it changes them, so you cant just replace or rename a file like you do to avoid the startup movies. no doubt they have punkbuster set up to interpret ad blocking as cheating as well.
- Toger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@Klowner
Normally you spend that much for the server total -- the supplier takes care of box, bandwidth, etc etc. Most places sell it on a per-slot basis, so if you want a ranked server, you pay $x / concurrent player. You don't have to first rent the box and bandwidth. - FrostyTheDMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gawd, don't give em any ideas. :0) Digg cuz its funny.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am just waiting for someone to hack into the ad system and run some funny ads. As for the spyware just edit their cookies and screw up the data base.
- NeoRicen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha, sucked in Americans, Australias Anti Spyware laws prohibit these in game ads.
By the way, buried as inaccurate as the title is grossly misleading. - alexkorova, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ehm, since it's a online game it would probably download the ads from the 'net. And sure, there will probably be blockers, but it might be hard if it masks it with the rest of the game data.
- peverett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know what - I KNOW its a joke article - but it would be cool if someone actually made this as a mod - Although everybody would want to play for the Victoria's Secrets army - I'm betting their Armour would be... interesting + female body model ;)
Not that we'd want a war simulation where you get to kill Coca-Cola and McDonald's employees - that Jack Thompson bloke would have a fit! - Punisher2K, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4You can tell how many deuche bags don't even read the articles based on the comments.
RTFAMF - kaffein, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5You can get the game for $37 @ Frys...
Although the game is fun, still not sure I want to give in even at that price.
Another thing that ticks me off is that if you want to host a server, you pretty much really need a ranked server in order to get players. If the EA premium was not so damn over priced it wouldn't be that bad... $66 extra dollars??
Ranked:
32 Max Player Slots $159.68 Monthly
Unranked:
32 Max Player Slots $96.00 Monthly - danjal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Has anybody even played the game?!? ive got it, it's fantastic, and the only add i see is a little box as it loads... as far as "adds out of control" all i have is two words Google Adds.
- PYREX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now i know the marketers are telling EA people will still buy them.
but im one of those people who WONT. i was a huge fan of the BF series and really looking forward to this game; but i can tell you i will NEVER buy it or install it unless they issue a version that is completely ad free. im sure there are millions of people just like me, and EA will notice.
if they think time will make it any more acceptable & the norm, they're in for a surprise. there are plenty of alternative ad-free games out there. i'd take any one over IGA. - McNubbins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a good game...I'm still playing the demo though because I'm not sure if I want to commit. All of this news about spyware bugs me out.
