- szelij, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40Yeah nintendo is a big winner at E3....i'm going to get the Wii+Xbox360 =) Screw sony and their expensive *****, if i want high definition games i'd upgrade my computer.
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21even better is price wise
Wii + xbox 360 = ps3
now which side of that equation would you prefer?
:) - chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Indeed, on the Gamespot poll "Who do you think stole the show at e3", about 50% chose Nintendo, then Microsoft, and then Sony in last place. So it looks like many many people agree with this position (and most of those people have not traditionally been fans of nintendo).
- cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -13/+28Come on.
Wii don't need anymore stories on this.... - jmholloway, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Yeah, I totally agree. I cant wait until Wii comes out. I am going to be preordering that baby the moment it becomes available.
- MiamiGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15There have been so many stories talking about Nintendo's victory. I think we all get the point. I'll be getting one myself.
- wpholmes, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16In EVERY SINGLE story, people feel like they have to post things like: "Wow, there are so many stories like this" "Oh, of course it's apple or nintendo so it gets to the front page"
If you don't like the story, don't read it and don't digg it. Thats how the site works! Comments boost stories too, so everytime you post how much you hate a story, it helps it along.
So please, read/digg what you want, but don't ruin other stories that different people may be interested in. - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11that is fine you are an rpg player
the thing about the wii is it presents a new style and potentially new genres of gameplay
also the ablility to plug other controllers into it means the ability to play traditional style games
but i think what most people, myself included are looking forward to is the new style and level of interaction
and thus the new style of games that will follow - schmedly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12"As an RPG player, I'm not about to jump into the Nintendo bandwagon."
I wouldn't want to jump INTO it either, that would hurt. Instead I'll jump ON TO it.
"Are you still all in highschool?"
No, but once when I stood in the doorway I was still HALF out of a high school and still HALF in a high school. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I think people have finally realised with the cost of the PS3- we aren't asking for a new format, the corporations are telling us the consumers that we need this new format.
I'm happy with DVD and I imagine everyone else who has just adopted the DVD is.
VHS- lasted 20 years despite being the worse of the two technologies, the other being Beta Max.
DVD has only been mainstream for 5 years- it is too young to warrant Sony or Microsoft forcing HD/BluRay down out necks.
We can't afford it.
I think they're both futile, surround sound is the next step up in technologies.. and downloading technology as infastructure develops will easily take over what these consoles are offering.
Nintendo hit the nail on the head- make DVD optional, i'll gladly buy the Wii dongle because it's going to be one of the most stylish DVD players on the market :D
Average consumer-
Price? Nintendo wins
Games? Matter of opinion, but Nintendo is catering for a wide audience
Style/Design? Nintendo wins
Brand loyalty/penetration? Nintendo has been around the longest, they win.
Nintendo are back.. while my post may be a little off topic I think Sony are really in trouble. - cyberfelon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I preordered a Wii yesterday. Luckily Nintendo is including Australia in its global launch, unlike the 360's supposed "global" launch.
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8By RPG, I'll assume you mean Square-style choose-your-own-adventure interactive movies. Please, go impress your clique while watching them on your PS3. It will please me.
- NiteTrip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Screw Sony, they ARE the RIAA/MPAA make em hurt!
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6the average consumer is most likely watching TV right now, with no know knowledge of the current status of the PS3/wii/ or 360
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The difference is that one is a delicious snack, and the other plays games.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7You may have, but when the BBC report on something, it goes far more afield than just Digg and Slashdot readers.
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Slow down, all of you. Let the haters hate and the lovers love. Hate never wins in the end anyway.
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I dont think its not giving them credit, they had the best show in E3 but not everybody likes the wii games, and yes some people like the latest in graphics.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think we can finally come to the scientific conclusion that Nintendo had long lines.
- cyberfelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Brand loyalty doesn't mean a thing to the average consumer if their favourite company is acting like a bunch of asshats. If this wasn't the case, we'd all be playing our Ataris, Segas or PSPs right now. If a competitor offers a much better experience at a fraction of the price, consumers won't have much problem switching sides.
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If success was judged by the number front page posts on Digg during this week's E3 games expo, then Nintendo would win hands down.
- stalky14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3High def DVD will go the way that Laserdisc did in the VHS era, and DVD-Audio did: niche market.
The snobs will buy it. How long has high-def audio been around now and how much market penetration does that have? - terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Speaking of RPGs, is anyone else as excited about getting a new Mario RPG on Wii as I am?
For those who didn't play Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Gamecube), it had a turn-based combat system that required you to basically play microgames when making attacks. These included timed button presses, specific button sequences, flicking the control stick, etc. Your success in the microgame determined how much damage you would do. This made combat extremely fun.
I can't even imagine what Intelligent Systems has got in store for the Wii. PLEASE make another Paper Mario! - skatingrox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3BLOGSPAM. Digg should have a 'spam' button next to user comments. If enough people click it, the user gets banned.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think Nintendo knows it has a good thing going. And the goodwill, and press, that has been generated, is more valuable in the long run than a quick hike in price. I cant see them making a mistake like that.
- metacoola, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8"Look ma, no hands." As an RPG player, I'm not about to jump into the Nintendo bandwagon. Are you still all in highschool?
Thank god you use age/maturity as an argument, especially seeing as your anonymous on the internet.. - breakfastpants, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5The difference between MS and peanuts is that the 360, having been out for a year (by that time), is due for a price drop.
- mattjumbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nintendo has said from the get-go that it isn't catering exclusively to the hard-core gaming audience like Sony and MS are. And the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of casual and/or non-gamers won't even notice the difference in graphics between the 360, the PS3, and the Wii.
Its the same reason that the Nintendo DS has blown away the Sony PSP. In the old days of system transistions, there was a clear and obvious gap. Even a casual gamer or non-gamer could see the difference between an NES and a Genesis game, or between and SNES and a Playstation game. That's just not true anymore.
If you showed anyone but hard-core gamers a game on the Wii and a game on the 360, they likely would have no idea which was which.
Oh, and MS will never beat or equal Nintendo on price. If MS does drop the price on the 360, Nintendo will just correspondingly drop the price on the Wii. Nintendo designs their systems to be profitable so they can do just that. MS, and even moreso Sony, take a financial hit with each system they sell in the hope that they will make it back on licensing, software, and peripherals. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"All of this good press might be a BAD thing since it might embolden Nintendo to think it can sell the Wii for a higher price, especially in comparison now to Sony's exhorbitant PS3 price. Hopefully, they'll keep it at $199 or less."
Woah. Hold it there; we're talking about NINTENDO. They are practically famous for being honest. When people said the Wii was a fake name, many people knew Nintendo would never do such a thing. I think that some press will not influence NIntendo's decision on the Wii's price. - ryogahibiki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3All of this good press might be a BAD thing since it might embolden Nintendo to think it can sell the Wii for a higher price, especially in comparison now to Sony's exhorbitant PS3 price. Hopefully, they'll keep it at $199 or less.
- jobobshishkabob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2not saying anything bad about the artricle in general, but i think there were like 3 or 4 articles with this same headline:
"Nintendo might steal E3"
"Nintendo stealing E3"
"Nintendo steals E3"
"Nintendo steals E3" (yes, there were 2 of that last one including this one)
i think we got the point, but still... Nintendo really deserved all this. They truely brought something new to the floor...
sony just went and said they had something new... but i dont think so
microsoft just went and did their thing... which was really boring
i watched all 3 press conferences, i was very dissapointed at sony's lack of innovation with the controller... nintendo's was very enjoyable... i think this is the first e3 in which people played tennis on stage.... and microsofts, i fell a sleep.... - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -16/+18No digg.....I've read about 18,000 variations of this same story.
- wpholmes, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Why complain though, is it that much of a hassle to look past a few headlines?
Why ruin it for everyone else just to try and tailor the site to exactly what YOU want? - jholdaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1G4's coverage tried to play Nintendo's coverage.. I liked the quote by Olivia on G4 "Stay tuned for news about the most talked about system this year; the PS3" really? But as far as I can tell, much of the news off the feeds and newswires (and mass media too) has been greatly Wii heavy.
- dusingaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"That is totaly new information" -friends
- templest, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I didn't know what all the fuss was about, but then I went to http://wii.nintendo.com/ and I got tingles.
The same kind of tingles I got when the first Nintendo came out. Or the first SEGA Game-Gear.
In short, I want this thing *bad*, and so help me God I'll be one of the first people in this town to have one. :-) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8there is a distinct line between balance and Apple/Nintendo spam on digg and you know it.
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The type of games I could see being played on the wii are new kinds of party games like mario party, fishing games, sports games and stuff like that. I do think that most RPGs and FPSs will not play great with the controller. I hope the best for wii but I couldnt see it replacing my PC or 360 in terms of playtime.
- MannaPC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man, I am glad to see Sony finally die. Looks like about the only people buying the system this time are the cult Sony Players.
Not all Sony PS players think PS is the best game system out their, but a lot do oddly enough (sort of like Apple.)
Wii looks cool. I wanna see what happens when it come out though as I don't know what our traditional games will be like. - CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6similar story for your reference and reading pleasure
http://digg.com/gaming/Underdog_Nintendo_Wii_steals_Thunder_from_PS3_Xbox_360 - zaphodbblx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I have to admit I think the "sony's in trouble" crowd are right
if I wanted a new compurter id buy one and the ps3 is just as bad as buying one and I have to say the wii looks like it will be fun
wont buy one right away but most likely will - TimRogers, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Oh, stupid asses, give Nintendo some credit for once. It might scare you Sony/Microsoft fanboys, but Nintendo owned E3 completely. It's not often that you can say that.
The Wii in innovation is hugely above the PS2 and the 360, and lets not mention the fact that practically every feature of the PS3 was stolen from the 360 and the Wii. - TestFar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4"Why ruin it for everyone else just to try and tailor the site to exactly what YOU want?"
Arh, I love the smell of irony in the morning. - wpholmes, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5How is it spam if enough people digg it?
The fact that it's on the front page proves that people find it interesting.
Even if you think it's spam, why bother reading and commenting on it? Ignoring it is the best way to make it go away! - mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Average consumer-
Price? Nintendo wins
Games? Depends on what you like party/racing/sports games vs. FPS/RPGs
Style/Design? Depends on what you like, nintendo has a good design but I like my 360
Brand loyalty/penetration? You remember the PS2? That was brand loyalty, people would buy it just for the playstation name. As for the gamecube - it was 3rd place in sales. - itanshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"It also will be home to new games conceived by indie developers whose creativity is larger than their budgets."
read that on the nintendo site, this is awesome. i understand the dev kit is 3000 dollars, hmm, anyone up for it? - Codee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't have any new info to add to this but,
I am just glad to see something like the Wii.
Gaming use to be about having a whole lot of fun.
Nintendo has hit the bull's eye dead on. I believe Microsoft and Sony, have in a sort of, canceled themselves out. Get one or the other their both relatively the same.
Not to mention,Sony's cost and delays are definitely getting the best of them.
Also for real game-play, it's not so cutting edge anymore. 360, PS3 they look damn near the same.
They play the same. They are both drink the same technical "Kool-Aid", more or less anyway. (Tho' the PS3 Gyroscopic controller is kinda' sweet, I think the Nintendo Wii controller is, by far, more versatile)
So the interesting part here is that everyone has upped their tech, but Nintendo has really focused on the gamers, in the most basic ways. Fun.
Fun isn't a fad. It's a rule.
The #1 rule, in our Gamers Internal Console and Gaming Rule Book.
Check your index. Nintendo did.
I want one, I want a Nintendo Wii. I wanna' have fun. Again. - DNABeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would have agreed that casual gamers wouldn't notice the difference in graphics up until I saw the Halo3 trailer.
http://www.bungie.com
Wow! I can't beleive that was all done in the game engine. - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Also in shocking news: the sky is blue.
- neoknight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I said it before and I'll say it again, Wii will prevail.
