Awesome new homebrew PS1 emulator for PSP!
psp3d.xhardwarereviews.com — Once again, Sony has been defeated. We have a PS1 emulator months before the official one is going to be released, for free, at that!
- 608 diggs
- digg it
- mrdank, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15awesome it is still in its pre-beta form though so it doesnt run at full speed yet or have sound support but still this is great :)
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15firmwares 1.0 to 2.71 are supported for the psp only for now.
- hammydude, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Now I can finally play final fantasy 7 on my psp...
except I don't own a psp due to the lack of games - user123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This emulator IS more of a test but Yoshihiro is a "beta" coder whose beta's become public experiments to test his skill.
- HOTM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Most of the games are too slow to even be considered playable. But still, with some work I bet it could be done.
- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2yeah, just like that N64 emu.....(sarcasm)
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -11/+14the GBA emulator plays Advance wars with cracked up sound and at 5FPS at 333MHz..... This is just plain stupid. How does Sony expect to alllow PS1 games on the PSP?
I dont know too much bout computers in the aspect of types of processors and all, but could this have anything to do with, for example, PPC and x86 differences in architecture? Is the Artichecture for teh PS1 is similar to the PSP, but not to teh N64 or GBA? thanks - hhOwArdrOarKk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@foolfromhell
Actually, the newest GBA emulator plays all roms at full speed. And Advance Wars works perfectly.

A full speed Capcom System 2 emulator as just been released as well.
The N64 emulator is making incredible progress and some games are even playable right now.
The fact that Sony is releasing an 'official' ps1 emulator later this year should obviously satisfy the reality that a full speed hombrew version could be possible as well. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I LOVE YOU hhOwArdrOarKk!
But I need to register, is there an alternate download link? - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3How do I get the kxploit thing to work?
- hhOwArdrOarKk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just google gpSP 0.6 and something will turn up.
- Araxen, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Actually gPSP still doesn't run all roms at full speed. There is still some slow downs. Just load up the Final Fantasy 1&2 or FF4 Advance and there is some slow down.
The battle scenes in FF1&2 is horrible with the music very bad. - HOTM, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The PSP can emulate the GBA easily because they are both ARM cores.
- AkumaATR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@HOTM - Not true. GBA is ARM, PSP/PS2 are MIPS.
- serpentor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Araxen - I'm actually playing FF1&2 on gPSP 0.7. It's really not that bad with a frameskip of 2. The Wonderswan Color version is faster on e[m]ulator, but you're stuck with Jap menus and none of the GBA enchancements (music, dungeons, etc)
- HOTM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My appologizes, I was thinking of the GP2X.

http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSX-P-Alpha-Release-Tomorrow-Update-/pg/49/aid/67257 - Easty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11How does it work if there are games that use 2 analog sticks, and the PSP only has 1?
- heavensblade23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The original PS1 controllers didn't come with analog sticks, so presumably all games support digital control, even if it sucks.
- Easty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Right... But what are they doing about only having 1 set of shoulder buttons? I'm confused...
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Those are the primary reason they're delaying the service.
- teetow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9It's not new, it's definitely not awesome, and calling it an emulator is bit of a stretch. More like a proof-of-concept.
Having said that, I'm only criticizing the hype. I'd love for these guys to succeed. I'd just recommending people keep calm about it for a while, and let them work.- xtr3m, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6Still, it's digg and it's a great chance to bash Sony!
- teckjunkie, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1DUPE http://digg.com/gaming_news/World_s_First_PSX_Emulator_for_PSP_Released
- gxcdesign, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I'm sure Sony will release a far more stable version
- wfmk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14And then it'll be hacked :D
- HOTM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Exactly. This is made by someone who has a job, and is coding this for fun. People at sony are being payed big bucks for making this.
- danneyboey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yay, works like a charm.
- OdepiTy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Can someone please tell me how or direct me to a link on how to actually install this on my PSP? Big newb here.
Thanks- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Here too
- cessax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5psp3d.com forums will help you out
- user123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Noobs helping noobs. now thats a good one!
- DesolataX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Man, PSP3D is getting the digg effect. So slow!
- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4When I first heard of the PSP from the sheer name alone I thought it would be a handheld to play PlayStation games, which would have been far cooler than what it eventually became.
- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3When I first heard of it, I thought sony bought Paint Shop Pro.
- hhOwArdrOarKk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Far cooler than what it eventually became? What do you mean? It plays PlayStation 2 quality games, it WiLL play PlayStation 1 games, it has working emulators for almost every retro system from snes and genesis down to an amiga computer, it plays DVD quality movies from the memory card, and there is a 40 dollar gps attachment that you can purchase for it. Not to mention the thousands of homebrew applications, the web browser, and the fact that voip will soon be implemented on it.
- sarin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1digg down.
- sarin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3yeah its being dugg dugg dugg.
I would go to http://www.psphacks.net
The forums there have been going for years and are pretty reliable.
Then there is pspupdates too. - battleroyalex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2wooo 4fps! AMAZING! ..
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So far, compatibility is pretty low (this is beta after all), but a big congratulations to the team working on this! I look forward to an optimized release, but this is great news.
Ah, soon, "Final Fantasy Tactics" in the palm of my hand, where it was always meant to be -
Um - that came out a little odd.....- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Side note: "Final Fantasy Tactics" doesn't load. Ah, well - welcome to Betaville ;).
- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You know it came out on GBA three years ago right?
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Anyone know a good PS1 emulator for the xbox?
- mkodan50, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I am about to try this in a moment. I just want to see how far I can stretch my compatibility limit on Jpn games .. in either case, eLoader will probably crash just cause, or my rip will be bad cause I did a straight rip from the CD to ISO program, in either case, time to experiment!
Which leads me to this question: Well, I have the mini SP USB plugin for the PSP with a USB A Female directly on its end, so with this, could it be theoretically possible to build a PSP controller / USB adapter that would be compatible through this? This would solve everyone's controller problem, and possibly extend their ability on other controllers as well ... - kodan50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0o.o'' why do I have an "m" in my name? ... I hate my computer .. anyways I just loaded it, and it crashed, as I expected it to... After several reboots eLoader just wont open it. I blame my PSP and my image, cause they both "could be better" ..
Also, i noticed this a lot, eLoader's max CPU is 333 MHz with bus set to 166 and this program sets it to 110. Firstly, is this a big deal? I don't know a whole lot about hardware settings, specificly bus speeds relevent to CPU speeds .. - Almadiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, claim victory over Sony when it can actually play games. Though it is still nice to see work being done.

Here's the download link for the improved gba emulator
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/781 - Mystikal, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Another reason
PSP > DS - JeremiahLBurns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet, fancy moses. Give me FFVII!
- PClock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i will have to give this a try
- jsully, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The goal of emulation should not be to "defeat" a software or hardware company. Buried as... well... dick.
Check out the new & improved
