- DrakeTheRedEye, on 10/12/2007, -7/+85That was better than any ps3 commercial I've seen.

- chamel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+61Well that guy will have some job offers coming in over that. You can bet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46was awesome... but you have to go and get permission for family guy usage and those movies shown..
- triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -7/+46worthless? your out of your mind.
- Rochmndx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36Man... that was great!
If I were looking for a good producer, I'd sure hire him - whiskerlickins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Really well-made commercial! Showcases the PSP's features, unlike those stupid squirrels. Sony would earn a brownie point in my book if they offered the creator a deal.
- nhassan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29sony should hire the producer. real good commerical.
- deuceswilde, on 10/12/2007, -13/+40I'm calling BS on this, no way was that fan created, it's most likely a viral video put out by Sony.
1. All of the people are models
2. Look at the camera shots and you'll realize the vast majority of that couldn't be done by hand and had to be somehow staged
3. Who would put that much money into making a fan art video that would potentially reap them nothing
I just don't think you can watch that and legitimately think that someone brewed this one up in their basement, it reminds me of Sony's failed attempt to pass off the PSP graffiti as some kid's expression of his love for Sony and not an advertising ploy. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+33I still like this one better.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lcl3ve0oEk - rayishu, on 10/12/2007, -11/+31Hah only popeple that think PSP is worthless are people who have not unlocked its full potentional
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -19/+37Genuis? Ha! Looked just like a dozen other electronics commercials I've seen with a crappy hip-hop soundtrack.
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Makes far too much sense to be a Sony commercial.
- Fitzavig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@deuceswilde
People said the same thing about the infamous Nintendo ON video too and we all saw how that turned out,,, - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21I suddenly want one.
- RedViper1999, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17As much as I don't care for the psp, that is a damn good commercial. Much much better than the actual ones Sony uses. If someone were thinking to get one that would definitely be a convincing spot. Maybe Sony will see this and fire their own incompetent ad writers.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20Carlosaurusrex, I have a hard time believing you actually have the system. When it first came out with a few decent games and no homebrew capabilities, I was actually regretting my buy, but as time went on I became more and more interested in how I could use the PSP. Now it's indispensable, not only do I use it for entertainment (homebrew, music, movies), I also study for tests on it (load up PDF's in ebook reader, study away). It sure beats lugging around a backpack full of books or my laptop when all I need is a bunch of notes.
The PSP is by far my favorite handheld now. I own a DS as well, but now that some really great games have finally come out for the PSP, it's winning a lot more gameplay. I still pick my DS up every once and a while for a game of Mario Kart DS or Big Brain Academy, but my PSP is a hell of a lot more useful.
Not to mention how it'll interact with my PS3. This is gonna be great.
Also, if you'd taken the time and effort to unlock the PSP and install the extra firmware, you would obviously have some sort of goal in mind. Someone who really hates a handheld isn't gonna go out and flash the Firmware if there's not something they're looking forward to.
I chalk your comment up to typical anti-(insert something here that Digg users usually hate) crap. - DNLodge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13awesome
- Reno582, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12They forgot the RSS video/audio feeds but still a great commercial.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Here's a line of thinking you guys don't seem to want to imagine for some odd reason (I guess the conspiracy theories are more fun?)... the creator of the ad could be both a fan AND a professional ad guy.
- porplem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11A commercial that actually shows what the product can do! Genius.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I doubt someone with those kind of skills already has to worry about job offers.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Erm, yea, that was definitely better then any PSP commercial to date. Kinda sad.
Some of the claims were a bit sketchy though. Download and watch live TV?
That implies a lot of things. Either you are downloading shows (*cough* illegally *cough*) or you have video capture equipment and all the tools to encode video, etc.. That's kinda outside the scope of what the product claims to do. - Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@deuceswilde This may have been created as part of a multimedia course that a group of people are taking. An assessment task or something, it is getting to the end of the year so people are doing their major coursework.
- newaffect, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9mind blowing com.! 5/5
- DannyX0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The psp supports the LocationFree system for streaming live video TV:
http://products.sel.sony.com/locationfreetv/flash.html
A feature that's been around since the 2.50 firmware upgrade.
Which technically isn't out of the scope of what the product can do.
(Though I agree that it should say that it needs a product that is sold separately for those purposes) - LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9"Not to mention how it'll interact with my PS3. This is gonna be great."
Unfortunately, coheed, if you want it to interact with your PS3, you're gonna have to break all that wonderful hombrewness, unless someone has come up with a way to seemingly downgrade the firmware while leaving the current functionality intact. - GhostFace2K, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I guess we can pretend it's great... but let us not forget that real marketers and advertisers must adhere by the good old 30-second commercial spot... needless to say this commercial is almost 3 times longer than most commercials... Trust me... it's harder than you think to fit your entire marketing scheme into a 30 second video... let's see how good this commercial would be if it were cut to fit 30 seconds..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Fan brewed by a fan? Perhaps, but this is still easily professional-looking. If this was a diehard fan created video, there wouldn't be black people with poofy hair. Now wait before you go to digg me down.
You can't watch a commercial on TV these days with black people without seeing poofy hair on their heads. THAT IS TRUE. Where are the black people without poofy hair? EVERYWHERE! But not on TV... - dacheetah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@deuceswilde:
I've seen PLENTY of "basement" videos that are at least this good. And for someone who knows what they are doing, particularly these days with built in stability controls, even a small handycam type video camera would have been enough. There was nothing in that ad that couldn't have been done with only fairly basic video editing skills. I've seen FAR more impressive basement videos done using Premiere, that came with simple walkthroughs for making said videos. In this day and age, making a professional looking video is not that hard.
As for the "Everyone is a model", there were only a few people in the ad, and there would easily be enough people who look that "good" in most of my uni classes, and so finding a few people who are willing to be in a fan made ad wouldn't be hard.
I actually thought that alot of the shots really showed the lack of prefessional equipment.
I would say it's plausible, even likely that this IS a fan video. A good one yes, but a fan video all the same. - rayishu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9He forgot about Homebrew and and RSS feeds those are my favorites
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What is so sketchy about GSM - in that of watching LIVE TV? That's what GSM or EVDO does. They stream live TV or any video to the portable device. BTW, the PSP3 is GSM/EVDO compliant.
And watching illiegally? How do you get that? Crazy.
OR capture/encode/tools? Only if you want to, i suppose, but there is NO implication present in the claim.
What would be cool? When we add comments ehre at digg, that the comment windo open up immediately below what we are commenting on, instead of being shoved down to the bottom of all comments - this would allow cut and paste (others forums call it "reply") operations to be much more efficient. - itseffinkasey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9The PSP is awesome! I do not know what any of you people are talking about... wht more do you want from a hand held device? You can surf the web, listen to music, watch movies you've downloaded, play PSP games *free*, play NES, SNES, GBC, GBA, and a hole lot of other systems. how much more awesome could it get?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ vhold
yup, they beat me to it... "Location Free Player". - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Stop waiting. It's done already.
- KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Even though it is pretty similar to most electronics ads nowadays (hip-hop soundtrack, teenager(s) walking around sporting their device, and so on), it's still a pretty damn well-made ad.
Plus, it beats those damned gangster squirrels and dustballs. - Piro786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can download videos from an official Sony psp site, they have trailers and other kinds too + the portable TV thing is true because of the location free player but the thing costs about $200 II RC
- Kanaka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The PSP is an awesome handheld entertainment system IMHO and leaves the DS/DS Lite (which i think is just a child's toy IMHO) in the dust. Digg me down if you want but this my opinion.
PS i think the ad rocks! - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5This IDIOT obviously does NOT own a PSP2. I have SEEN them in ACTION, and the battery life is JUST FINE.
- ValentineAgent, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I couldn't seem to find the commercial on their site. Is it on there?
- guitarh3ro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2WTF did I get dugg down for? I thought that commercial was the *****!
- bonk2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2good for a fan creation. actually, excellent for a fan creation, but it looks and sounds just like every commercial for every other "hip" electronic thats came out in the past 5 years. i prefer the dustballs.
- dyl0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Commercials BAD, Independent reviews GOOD
Stop being good little consumers - Evolve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sorry just looks like another generic commercial that i see on TV/Streaming any other day.
Maybe I just see this type of advertising more, and that else where in the world they don't show it.
But this advert is just what i see every other day. Yawn-a-thon. - Dyer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The PSP2's battery may be fine but the PSP's sure isn't.
- patrarno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Somebody needs to hire this guy, and pay him loads of money, because he is talented.
- dimsum05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I like Sony commercials ... their weird...
Anywho, very nice job on the commercial... really liked it! - soultiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2this is the first PSP add that actually made me wish i had one
- IMustBeEmo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is a _really_ good commercial.
The squirrel and dustball commercials really caught on with us teens. I think this one would too. -
