Awesome fan-created PSP commercial!
psp3d.xhardwarereviews.com — Sony needs to learn from this genius. Enough with the squirrels and dustballs, this is the most informative, yet fun, PSP ad I've seen to date.

- DrakeTheRedEye, on 10/12/2007, -7/+85That was better than any ps3 commercial I've seen.
- mtnxfreeride, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46was awesome... but you have to go and get permission for family guy usage and those movies shown..
- jacobo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+66http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE7UsyX0ZFw
- myzticshadow146, on 10/12/2007, -60/+1what does this have to do with PS3? Man I feel the urge to flame..
- 23r17i05o42n, on 10/12/2007, -19/+37Genuis? Ha! Looked just like a dozen other electronics commercials I've seen with a crappy hip-hop soundtrack.
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21I suddenly want one.
- kanime, on 10/12/2007, -7/+33I still like this one better.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lcl3ve0oEk - deuceswilde, on 10/12/2007, -13/+40I'm calling BS on this, no way was that fan created, it's most likely a viral video put out by Sony.
1. All of the people are models
2. Look at the camera shots and you'll realize the vast majority of that couldn't be done by hand and had to be somehow staged
3. Who would put that much money into making a fan art video that would potentially reap them nothing
I just don't think you can watch that and legitimately think that someone brewed this one up in their basement, it reminds me of Sony's failed attempt to pass off the PSP graffiti as some kid's expression of his love for Sony and not an advertising ploy. - Fitzavig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@deuceswilde
People said the same thing about the infamous Nintendo ON video too and we all saw how that turned out,,, - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2You mean, thatn any OtHER PSP commercial you have seen, because what you have seen IS the NEXT PSP3 commercial not due out until the PSP3 release date cof this FRIDAY. Does NO ONE watch G$TV or - in Canada, soon to be released in the US - TechTV anymore?
- d8cam, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Fan brewed by a fan? Perhaps, but this is still easily professional-looking. If this was a diehard fan created video, there wouldn't be black people with poofy hair. Now wait before you go to digg me down.
You can't watch a commercial on TV these days with black people without seeing poofy hair on their heads. THAT IS TRUE. Where are the black people without poofy hair? EVERYWHERE! But not on TV... - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Here's a line of thinking you guys don't seem to want to imagine for some odd reason (I guess the conspiracy theories are more fun?)... the creator of the ad could be both a fan AND a professional ad guy.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@kanime
Sony is watching me through my PSP?
I bet someone at Sony is spying on me.... - dacheetah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@deuceswilde:
I've seen PLENTY of "basement" videos that are at least this good. And for someone who knows what they are doing, particularly these days with built in stability controls, even a small handycam type video camera would have been enough. There was nothing in that ad that couldn't have been done with only fairly basic video editing skills. I've seen FAR more impressive basement videos done using Premiere, that came with simple walkthroughs for making said videos. In this day and age, making a professional looking video is not that hard.
As for the "Everyone is a model", there were only a few people in the ad, and there would easily be enough people who look that "good" in most of my uni classes, and so finding a few people who are willing to be in a fan made ad wouldn't be hard.
I actually thought that alot of the shots really showed the lack of prefessional equipment.
I would say it's plausible, even likely that this IS a fan video. A good one yes, but a fan video all the same. - Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@deuceswilde This may have been created as part of a multimedia course that a group of people are taking. An assessment task or something, it is getting to the end of the year so people are doing their major coursework.
- sq377, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3The PSP has fans?
- bonk2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2good for a fan creation. actually, excellent for a fan creation, but it looks and sounds just like every commercial for every other "hip" electronic thats came out in the past 5 years. i prefer the dustballs.
- darryl242, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"The PSP has fans?"
Yes, Millions of them... does that upset you?
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -56/+16Makes want to go out and get one even though I clearly know that the PSP is worthless.
- triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -7/+46worthless? your out of your mind.
- rayishu, on 10/12/2007, -11/+31Hah only popeple that think PSP is worthless are people who have not unlocked its full potentional
- carlosauresrex, on 10/12/2007, -25/+21i've "unlocked it to it's full potential." hold on let me check something quickly before i finish this comment.
yup, psp still sucks. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20Carlosaurusrex, I have a hard time believing you actually have the system. When it first came out with a few decent games and no homebrew capabilities, I was actually regretting my buy, but as time went on I became more and more interested in how I could use the PSP. Now it's indispensable, not only do I use it for entertainment (homebrew, music, movies), I also study for tests on it (load up PDF's in ebook reader, study away). It sure beats lugging around a backpack full of books or my laptop when all I need is a bunch of notes.
The PSP is by far my favorite handheld now. I own a DS as well, but now that some really great games have finally come out for the PSP, it's winning a lot more gameplay. I still pick my DS up every once and a while for a game of Mario Kart DS or Big Brain Academy, but my PSP is a hell of a lot more useful.
Not to mention how it'll interact with my PS3. This is gonna be great.
Also, if you'd taken the time and effort to unlock the PSP and install the extra firmware, you would obviously have some sort of goal in mind. Someone who really hates a handheld isn't gonna go out and flash the Firmware if there's not something they're looking forward to.
I chalk your comment up to typical anti-(insert something here that Digg users usually hate) crap. - TheCheeks, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4He's right, PSPs are worthless. I got mine release date and there was NO good game for the first 4 months, I wasn't about to wait for more crappy games. I even had a 1.5 so that I could download ripped games, keeping a PSP wasn't even worth it using downloaded games I didn't pay for!
And yes I used a LOT of homebrew emulators and programs, even then it was STILL worthless. - LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9"Not to mention how it'll interact with my PS3. This is gonna be great."
Unfortunately, coheed, if you want it to interact with your PS3, you're gonna have to break all that wonderful hombrewness, unless someone has come up with a way to seemingly downgrade the firmware while leaving the current functionality intact. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Loco, I'm just counting on the fact that someone will crack 3.0+ soon enough. It's not too important that I get it working - I'd rather keep my homebrew - but I'm sure getting it functional will be at the top of cracker's lists, so it shouldn't be too long until it's possible.
- Prophet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Unlocked it's full potential? Let me check... Oh, hey, it has a touch screen, and a microphone! Wow, it...
Oh... no, that was my DS... never mind... nothing to see here.
- chamel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+61Well that guy will have some job offers coming in over that. You can bet.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I doubt someone with those kind of skills already has to worry about job offers.
- DNLodge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13awesome
- Rochmndx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36Man... that was great!
If I were looking for a good producer, I'd sure hire him- nhassan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29sony should hire the producer. real good commerical.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Sony hired an Ad Agency, not one "guy" or "girl" producer, although SONY could hold out renewing an Ad Agency contract demanding that this guy or girl be brought on the team, which all seems abit silly, since they already did and already are and this is boring.
- whiskerlickins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Really well-made commercial! Showcases the PSP's features, unlike those stupid squirrels. Sony would earn a brownie point in my book if they offered the creator a deal.
- joltjake, on 10/12/2007, -28/+9that was cool, to bad the PSP is a piece of *****.
- guitarh3ro, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6...Holy *****...
- ledpamster, on 10/12/2007, -19/+9i hate the psp but i like that commercial
- RedViper1999, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17As much as I don't care for the psp, that is a damn good commercial. Much much better than the actual ones Sony uses. If someone were thinking to get one that would definitely be a convincing spot. Maybe Sony will see this and fire their own incompetent ad writers.
- woody56292, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I agree. I don't really like the psp ( I have a ds and am getting a pmp ) but that commercial makes it very enticing. ( along with the knowledge that psp is like the ultimate portable emulator.
- Dyer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@Woody
"( along with the knowledge that psp is like the ultimate portable emulator)."
That would be the GP2X.
It would be a good move for Sony if they hired the producer of this ad. The dustball ***** is just that, *****.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Erm, yea, that was definitely better then any PSP commercial to date. Kinda sad.
Some of the claims were a bit sketchy though. Download and watch live TV?
That implies a lot of things. Either you are downloading shows (*cough* illegally *cough*) or you have video capture equipment and all the tools to encode video, etc.. That's kinda outside the scope of what the product claims to do.- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What is so sketchy about GSM - in that of watching LIVE TV? That's what GSM or EVDO does. They stream live TV or any video to the portable device. BTW, the PSP3 is GSM/EVDO compliant.
And watching illiegally? How do you get that? Crazy.
OR capture/encode/tools? Only if you want to, i suppose, but there is NO implication present in the claim.
What would be cool? When we add comments ehre at digg, that the comment windo open up immediately below what we are commenting on, instead of being shoved down to the bottom of all comments - this would allow cut and paste (others forums call it "reply") operations to be much more efficient. - Piro786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can download videos from an official Sony psp site, they have trailers and other kinds too + the portable TV thing is true because of the location free player but the thing costs about $200 II RC
- ScottMaximus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The PSP3? What the ***** is the PSP3 and where are you pulling these facts out?
Probably someone dark and smelly. - DannyX0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The psp supports the LocationFree system for streaming live video TV:
http://products.sel.sony.com/locationfreetv/flash.html
A feature that's been around since the 2.50 firmware upgrade.
Which technically isn't out of the scope of what the product can do.
(Though I agree that it should say that it needs a product that is sold separately for those purposes) - Toophatz007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ vhold
yup, they beat me to it... "Location Free Player". - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2btw, other dude, ah, the PSP3 is being released this Friday - G$TV is covering it, and the commercial we are getting wet over is ABOUT THE MUTHER ***** PSP THREE!
Wake, the *****, up! (Commas provided by the Samuel L. Jackson Institute of Mutha, *****, speech *****!) - vhold, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Do'h, my bad. Thanks for the civilized correction.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What is so sketchy about GSM - in that of watching LIVE TV? That's what GSM or EVDO does. They stream live TV or any video to the portable device. BTW, the PSP3 is GSM/EVDO compliant.
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6Amazing! The PSP has fans!?
- rayishu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9He forgot about Homebrew and and RSS feeds those are my favorites
- Zap2, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3To bad a great commercial can't make up for a crappy product...
- Reno582, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12They forgot the RSS video/audio feeds but still a great commercial.
- newaffect, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9mind blowing com.! 5/5
- tse986, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1you have to be joking. if this blows your mind you are literally retarded. or 4.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1No different than the fake commercials running in "JOHNNY NEUMONIC", dude.
OLDE TYME video tricks, sorry to say.
- alidogramaci, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8...guys... this is not fan made... it's been produced by petrol advertising. how do I know? I work there... www.petrolad.com
- rayishu, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6oh in that case it sucks
- ValentineAgent, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I couldn't seem to find the commercial on their site. Is it on there?
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1That was a little obvious, dude!
It was either done BY them or on THEIR equipment for fun (better check those late-night security logs!) - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Give us the link, bitch. Unless, of course, the video was leaked by a disgruntled employee (recently fired, perhaps?). Hey , I don't know - I'm just sayin. I mean, if that were the case an you KNOW that this was made BY a company, then either:
1. You are FOS
2. You don't want to say any more (nudge, nudge) and a premie link to sonething that SONY does not want released to the public yet shalle not be linked to, and if it was, then you could get fired.
3. You don't know the link yet. - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1And, ya might be telling the truth here, but you guys don't know ***** ALL about serving content on the web! JESUS KANYE CHRIST, what ***** streaming you dead *****!
But the game looks cool, though. Now, if you could just ***** FLASHING around and just let us DOWNLOAD the video - that would be a smart move. - dandiemer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i rather like the street fighter viral videos.
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Makes far too much sense to be a Sony commercial.
- AeroZeppelin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2ZING!
- itseffinkasey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9The PSP is awesome! I do not know what any of you people are talking about... wht more do you want from a hand held device? You can surf the web, listen to music, watch movies you've downloaded, play PSP games *free*, play NES, SNES, GBC, GBA, and a hole lot of other systems. how much more awesome could it get?
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Personally, it's too big for me. I'm getting a DS Lite though...
- IMustBeEmo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is a _really_ good commercial.
The squirrel and dustball commercials really caught on with us teens. I think this one would too. - losimagic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2That kid has a future in advertising!
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2THAT "kid" is 26 years old and is in the middle of his "future" in advertising desgins.
- robot1122, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Too bad the PSP's battery only last as long as the commercial and the loading times are so horrible that you couldn't play it in sort intervals...
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5This IDIOT obviously does NOT own a PSP2. I have SEEN them in ACTION, and the battery life is JUST FINE.
- Dyer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The PSP2's battery may be fine but the PSP's sure isn't.
- triblinator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1the battery life seems fine watching my friends play it during class =P lasts till 6th period at least. and i agree about the short intervals... i personally dont own a sony system and own every nintendo one. but i almost bought a psp for emulation alone... nes is my favorite thing in the world (i have a working one +30 or so good games. for now i play on ipod linux and wish that i could understand how to get iboy working =(
- deadgoon42, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Marked it Lame.
- porplem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11A commercial that actually shows what the product can do! Genius.
- GhostFace2K, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I guess we can pretend it's great... but let us not forget that real marketers and advertisers must adhere by the good old 30-second commercial spot... needless to say this commercial is almost 3 times longer than most commercials... Trust me... it's harder than you think to fit your entire marketing scheme into a 30 second video... let's see how good this commercial would be if it were cut to fit 30 seconds..
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2What a load of C R A P ! Advertiser do NOT have to keep commercials to 30 seconds. MOST commercials are AT LEAST 60 seconds. Some are 1.5 minutes, some are even *gasp* 2 whole minutes long. Have you ever watched Monday Night Football commercial spots?
The ONLY thing keeping commercials to 30 seconds is THE ***** HIGH COST OF TV AD SPACE. aND FCC regulations that state there can only be X number of minutes worth of commercials on the public air waves. Pesky FCC! - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1To clarify:
What a load of C R A P ! Advertisers do NOT have to keep commercials to 30 seconds. MOST COMMERCIAL TV (AND Radio AND CABLE) commercials are AT LEAST 60 seconds. Some are 1.5 minutes, some are even *gasp* 2 whole minutes long. Have you ever watched Monday Night Football commercial spots?
The ONLY thing keeping commercials to 30 seconds is THE ***** HIGH COST OF TV AD SPACE for anything longer! And FCC regulations that state there can only be X number of minutes worth of commercials per hour/per day/per week on the public air waves. Pesky FCC! But you will still get the onger versions on CABLE TV. - DannyX0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@battybattybatt
True, and even when it is limited, the actual full commercial is cut down to 30, 60 min.
Sometimes a longer version's shown later or in other countries.
- tse986, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Am I going insane? Why does everyone like this commercial? There is nothing special about it AT ALL. It's not the least bit creative, and I started falling asleep half way through it it's so long. You guys are way too easily entertained.
- dyl0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Commercials BAD, Independent reviews GOOD
Stop being good little consumers - benc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Obligatory: http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=192
- KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Now THAT is one hilarious ad. Ah, VG Cats. How you amuse me so.
- Lobut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Pretty impressive for a fan-made one in my opinion. And it beats the crap outta any of those damn squirrel and dustball ones.
- KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Even though it is pretty similar to most electronics ads nowadays (hip-hop soundtrack, teenager(s) walking around sporting their device, and so on), it's still a pretty damn well-made ad.
Plus, it beats those damned gangster squirrels and dustballs. - soultiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2this is the first PSP add that actually made me wish i had one
- dimsum05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I like Sony commercials ... their weird...
Anywho, very nice job on the commercial... really liked it! - Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1PSP sucks at being a gameing system, I would love to hack it and play emulators though, too bad I sold mine for wii money.... it was firmware 2.8 so no hacking for me.
- indraneel24, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i'm lookin in to that. how much did you sell it for? with games/accessories or nothing?
- estaticxalde, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2If Sony advertized that with homebrew the psp can play
psp
snes
nes
gb
genesis
neo geo cd
etc..
then that would be the perfect commercial - patrarno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Somebody needs to hire this guy, and pay him loads of money, because he is talented.
- Evolve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sorry just looks like another generic commercial that i see on TV/Streaming any other day.
Maybe I just see this type of advertising more, and that else where in the world they don't show it.
But this advert is just what i see every other day. Yawn-a-thon.- indraneel24, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1compared to pubes and squirrels, trust me, this is a LOT better than regular psp advertising. then of course, sony really doesn't have that much to advertise about. most of the good stuff about the psp isn't even made by sony. it's made by the community
- Lezlee798, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Asuming someone doesn't steal it while ur dancing.
- noogman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wheres the Mcgriddles?
This looks Like PlayStation meets a McDonald's commercial. If this was made by a fan, they've been watching too much television and eating too many Mc-cheeseburgers. I give it two Mc-thumbs down. - guitarh3ro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2WTF did I get dugg down for? I thought that commercial was the *****!
- Kanaka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The PSP is an awesome handheld entertainment system IMHO and leaves the DS/DS Lite (which i think is just a child's toy IMHO) in the dust. Digg me down if you want but this my opinion.
PS i think the ad rocks! - Sniper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Here are some better commercials. Keyword: some

- dmckey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hey 4.5 out of 5 on the ad, it almost made me want to buy a $250 brick/psp :)
- PcChip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1won't even load for me using Firefox2
- brewyet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Its not Fan made, I saw this on TV back when the PSP came out.
- mjohnson2112, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah... what exactly is so great about this?
Maybe by "awsome" you mean "trapped in 1993."
