Yars' Revenge - aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They should really add a cart slot just so we can play the cards we may already have.
- fugitivALiEN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can get the z26 emulator and EVERY SINGLE ROM EVER MADE and run it on a pc connected to a tv. Not that it really matters but EVERY SINGLE ROM EVER MADE fits onto a single floppy disk!
- alanmarchman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This site shows you how to mod the flashback to accept a cartridge:
http://www.atarimuseum.com/fb2hacks/ - ..eD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is Space Invaders really not included? That would seem like a huge oversight. Battlezone would be nice too.
I dug out my old 2600 and bought new joysticks and a powersupply off of eBay. I have a huge pile of cartridges but some of them no longer work properly. Either I get nothing on the screen or I get a mess of random graphics. - galfridus73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is cool, but it is only 40 titles. Looking at the picture, it looks like the controllers plug in. Perhaps an expanded version, with paddle controllers included, is in the works? I would be interested in one if: 1) I could get wireless controllers; and 2) it had over 100 games on it.
- ((PolyAst)), on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Of the 40 listed games, 7 are complete new games! ...there are also 2 hidden bonus games in the Flashback 2.0 They have to be unlocked through a series of motions that are related to this anniversary clue. Think you can figure it out?"

Nifty! I might have to retire the original I have hooked up in my living room. :) - FRAGaLOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Been seeing similar units at Best Buy that play old Atari 2600 games but don't have that wood grain 2600 look. This looks much more cool. I wonder if I can use my old Atari joysticks with this unit.
I don't remember seeing the Atari logo on my joysticks as they are in this screenshot.
I already own those battery operated joysticks that plug directly into your TV's A/V. One made with Atari made games, and another of Activision games for the atari. Plus the namco pacman and ms. pacman units.. and a couple other ones.
It would be perfect if this 2600 had an Ethernet port and download other Atari "roms" for it. - dramatools, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Atari could probably cram the entire catalog of 2600 (theirs, along with Activision's and Coleco's) games into a console of the original size. Who needs a cart slot?
- galfridus73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And, yes, I know Atari had wireless joysticks for the 2600 well over 20 years ago. But have you ever tried playing with one of those? They're huge...
- tool_army, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I might get one of these as well. I'd like a complete list of the built-in games, but for $30, it's not a bad deal at all. The little Atari joystick games are like $15-$20 and they only have about 5 games. I always thought it would be cool if Nintendo did this with the NES, but since the Revolution will be able to download NES games, I guess it isn't a big deal.
- , on 10/12/2007, -0/+0where can you buy these things?
------
- xenoNfluX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I saw this at Target a few months ago... didn't buy it right away because no Galaga. :(
- Reddog_x2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is great. I recently got my 6 year old nephew the first version of flashback. He was thrilled to have a game system. I was happy to get him something fun that didn't feature lots of sex and graphic violence. He'll have plenty of time for that later. The second version will be a great birthday or Christmas gift.
- zephyrsyndicate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That kicks much ass. Aplardi, I've read on www.atariage.com that adding a cart slot is actually possible. I hope the joysticks are as good as the already-***** Atari ones :)
- kimuuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm so getting one.
- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a TV Boy III with over a hundred games on it, I prefer all the games built-in on a single controller instead of the nostalgia one of these can give.
- yaroze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still have 2 working 2600's, I see this as an opportunity to make the gameboy variant, that I saw ears ago, without killing off one of my classic machines to make it.
- SoulRebel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You realize that this akin to old people still listening to their 8 track players right??
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd like to see a combo Atari console that has the entire library of 2600, 5200, and 7800 games. Add durable cartridge slots for homebrew options. Give it game saves, and revise the game *music* to output in stereo.
As for putting all of that in a controller like the Jaxx (sic) Pacific controls, I say *stuff it*. A lot of Atari games were two player (or in the case of Warlords, 4 player), and I don't want a daisy chain wire running out of my controller to another. That would be lame.
Sell it for $100 and pack in a wireless controller, as well as modern audio and video connections, and the unit would sell. - rationalpi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm sticking with my original. The cult following of the system means that you can still find interesting games for the platform.
- somebodyelse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still have the UK PAL version in my bedroom. The sticks are long gone after excessive use on other machines. Still have a set of paddles, and the two keypads which locked together.
I only have 4 of the games listed by yaroze. Wish they included Space Invaders. I spent many hours in my youth on that game. - stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok, seriously... where can I buy this?
/has three 2600s and 150 games.
//definite atari collector. - scorwitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Personally I've always found the new controllers to be difficult to use for fast repeated actions. I love the ond joystick and can't wait to feel it in my hands again.
- pentomino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They've had the technology for a controller-form-factor 2600 since the late 90's. Indeed, they could just as easily have crammed another 30 ROMs into the Jakks Pacific controllers.
If they're going to release a console-sized one, why no cartridge slot, and why over 40 games?
Even the pirate NES machines they have at the mall take Famicom cartridges.
If they really wanted to impress me, they'd re-release the Atari 5200, this time with decent joysticks. The games there were of much better quality. - eric_n_dfw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd just like to have the original 2600 (or "VCS" as it was called in my day) joysticks and paddles available to plug into my current generation console to play the "Atari 2600 classics" on it.
- CrackHappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just want to be the first one to say ***** YEAH!
I am definitely getting this disguised as a "present" for my 4 kids for being good... I'll get them to clean their rooms in reward for a special present, and they'll never lay their grubby fingers on it... MUAHAHAHA - doorman444, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i am getting one
- motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0arcade Pac-Man is still > *
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This had me worried until I saw that it only has 40 games. Mine has 51 games! PWN!
http://tinyurl.com/9qxya - digital.dreamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah I wish they had more games. But it's got pong and pitfall. Its worth it right there :). To bad they would'nt offer a Ethernet connection where you could purchase more games online.
- digital.dreamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is so freaking cool. Man I am getting this. Them damn joysticks would take a beating hu? Mother F@!#ing game! Oh yeah I am having flashbacks. Except now I am old enough I can cuss as much as I want and my mom's not there to whip my ass. Good Digg made my day.
- pentomino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Adventure and Adventure II?
I hope they didn't remove Warren Robinett's name from the history-making Easter Egg like they did in the Jakks Pacific consoles. That was enough for me not to buy one right there. - TheRepublic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ordered one of these babies, ah reminiscing.
- LioConvoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can't play your original cartridges on this thing? Ghey..
- digital.dreamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just pre ordered mine. Very cool cannot wait.
- MarkK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What no Pac-Man or Space Invaders? That's a deal breaker for me.
- Drahknon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll buy one, but I do wish they'd have put more games on it.
- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can see a person wanting one for nostalgia, but not to actually play games on. I just don't see the attraction.
- search, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WHAT??? No Pole Position????
- sittingduck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they forgot to include pacman and also: raiders of the lost ark!... was there a 2600 version of frogger? can't remember if that was just colecovision... is frog pond the same thing?
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
These original games are classic and thus *gold* because of their playability value.
People still play the classic Monopoly board game without it being spruced up. Same goes for these classic games. Thus the allegory to 8 Track music is completely moot. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What no 'warlords'???
- sarasweet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For $30 there's no reason NOT to own one, other than I have 60+ cartridges for my perfectly working original 2600. No Warlords? Seriously. Thank god there's River Raid.
- sarasweet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sittingdkuck, yes there was Frogger on the 2600. A shame it's not included. No Mountain King or SeaQuest, either! Bah!
- dperrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still own wireless controllers for my atari. They are really big, but work suprisingly well.
- eric_n_dfw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+02600 Pac-Man was so bad that I think they left it out on purpose - wouldn't want someone playing it and returning the thing because it "just couldn't be that bad! There must be something wrong with it!"
- TimmyK., on 10/12/2007, -0/+0---"I love the ond joystick and can't wait to feel it in my hands again."---
Oh yeah, I bet you can't! ;) - hotterchick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Where can I find 50 old Atari cosoles?
